- Elidata0 contributionsBeen many years before? Go again.Required visit for anyone interested in learning about the Jewish People or specifically the Holocaust. Even if you visited years ago, the newer curated exhibits are much more accessible than the old museum.Written January 2, 2024
- rogerfz0 contributionsA mustDefinitely you have to visit once Yad Vashem to understand the horror of WW2. It makes you deeply sad and highly angry about the ignorance of some people. Specially for some German Idiots it should be mandatory (I myself am German).Written November 13, 2023
- evaaK3964ZT0 contributionsCould have spent the day hereFree tickets to enter but you have to book in advance (the night before was fine). You pay for car parking. Excellent exhibition, in chronological order, especially the videos of holocaust survivors talking about their experiences. So much to read you could spend all day here but we spent 2 hours. Our teenagers also found it interesting and it’s so important for everyone to understand what happened as it helps you understand the whole background to the current nation of Israel. Nice museum shop and amazingly landscaped gardens, sculptures and architecture.Written August 21, 2023
- dgoldyn0 contributionsDon’t miss this moving memorial and holocaust museum. Explains the need for a Jewish StateMist see on your Israel visit. it so explains the need for a Jewish state and Israel. The videos of holocaust survivors are fascinating and touching The surrounding area of Mt Herzl Is beautiful Dont missWritten August 19, 2023
- msjulieclement0 contributionsBeautiful tribute to victims of the HolocaustThis museum was incredibly packed while I visited and there was so much to take in. Every exhibit is so thoughtfully presented. The children's memorial is especially overwhelming and emotionally triggering. I would recommend this museum to anyone.Written July 25, 2023
- Maps318284385040 contributionsSomething every human should do.Not a place that you can rate but such a phenomenally and thoughtfully set out historical documentation of a time that is so hard to imagine….yet this museum does its best to inform, preserve and respect. You leave with a greater understanding, visually, auditory and emotionally of a variety of experiences of many different people of all faiths, sexual preferences, countries, social classes, ages etc.The curators have not changed history or been biased, but preserved and presented it in a thought provoking and moving way with transcripts, videos, belongings, diaries, films, books, quotes. Be prepared to be moved, take a hanky.Written July 15, 2023
- sdbctb0 contributionsInteresting and InformativeWe just did a self tour, they would let little kids under 10 in due to the nature of the place which is understandable. Interesting and informative exhibits with a lot of artifacts.Written July 10, 2023
- Aqusite0 contributionsDon't visit once. Visit two or three times. It's huge and powerful. What can you really say about Yad Vashem? It's incredible, powerful, shocking, terrible, and a completely unique place to go. It was the #1 place I wanted to see in my ten days in Jerusalem, as an educator and a Jewish person well aware already of the history. I wasn't prepared for the enormity of the grounds. I suppose I can say that. Also, the tour guides were loud and made it hard to hear my own audio guide, it was crowded, with giant tour busses totally filling up the museum, so go early, as early as possible if the visit is important to you, as it was for me. Honestly, I would recommend going more than once. I also suggest walking the entire grounds outside. I walked around but it wasn't all that well sign-posted, and it was 2pm in summer and quite hot, so I eventually gave up walking after about an hour, seeing just the Warsaw monument and a few other sculptures but not making it to the Valley of the Communities. But I recommend one day, early in the morning, for the museum itself, followed by a visit to the bookstore (NOT the bookstore by the entrance but the independent, smaller bookstore with the fabulously sincere and helpful owner downstairs). I didn't buy anything much in Israel to bring home except books from Yad Vashem of various testimonies from survivors. And then a second day solely for the grounds, also in the morning if it's summer. That is free. Maybe a third day even to go back through again. It's a place with incredible depth. I spent four or five hours there and felt rushed. I would actually see if I could stay on Mt. Herzl for a few days next time I visit. It's a completely unique place.Written July 1, 2023
- laurar7050 contributionsVery MovingThis is a must do in Israel. It poignantly tells the story of the Holocaust. It is well done and very contemplative. There are outside gardens to walk and ponder.Written July 1, 2023
- shootingstarbeauty0 contributionsThe Twinning Program Should Be Part of All B’nai Mitzvah Trips. My daughter participated in the Twinning Program. Our guide, Hazey, provided us with an exceptional, customized tour of Yad Vashem. She kept her language age appropriate for my children. Her warmth and knowledge made the time fly by. Plus, she provided us with meaningful information about my daughter’s twin that brought us all to tears. I highly recommend the Yad Vashem Twinning Program if you want to add meaning to your child’s simcha. This is a meaningful way to remember a specific child who perished in the Holocaust. My daughter will carry her twin’s name and story all the days of her life.Written June 24, 2023
- jackiesH4223HT0 contributionsTells the whole story.Very graphic and eye opening. Unbelievable but true. You need at least 2-3 hours to take it all in but it is presented in such a way that you come out emotionally touched and determined that it couldn't happen again.Written June 23, 2023
- Sandy E0 contributionsNot to Be Missed. Simply ExtraordinaryWe spent nearly two days at Yad Vashem, nearby Mount Herzl. There is so much to see and absorb. It is, without question, the most important memorial to the holocaust in the entire world. No visit to Israel is complete without it.Written June 14, 2023
- sparkybat0 contributionsTouringThis was apart of our tour would of preferred not to go as we have been to auschwitz Germany. It pretty graphic and you can see clearly how horrible it was - it brought tears to my eyes the whole way through. You will need at least hour just to briefly go through the museumWritten June 5, 2023
- Marktimperley0 contributionsThe most important experience I had in Israel.I have been learning about the Holocaust since I was 14 years old. I’ve read books, seen documentaries and movies, visited Holocaust museums in Washington, D.C., New York and Budapest. I’ve had tours of Mauthausen, Auschwitz and Theresienstadt. Spent an entire week in Krakow. The more I learn, the less I can comprehend this horror. I knew Yad Vashem would be an experience above and beyond all others. I went to their website and booked a private tour of six hours. I wanted a good overview of their mission, the reasons for the way the museum and memorials are designed and arranged. An incredibly great and knowledgeable lady named Hazy was my much appreciated guide. She understood exactly what I expected to accomplish on this, my first visit. Everything here is of great importance, a very somber and respectful atmosphere is present everywhere. I’m returning to Israel in February 2024 and will definitely spend two days here on my own. I highly recommend the guided tour (you can choose how many hours you want) but you have to book at least two days in advance.Written May 31, 2023
- Rich-Stamford0 contributionsExtraordinary experienceThe museum is outstanding. The exhibits, videos and audio guide were excellent. The videos of survivors describing their experiences were touching. They made the overall experience more personal. We spent 4 hours there which is unusually long for us.Written May 31, 2023

Yad Vashem drives home just how much mans depravity can extend to ! It drives home the reality of the Nazi ways and reminds us that we all need to be ever vigilant of nasty rulers and demagoguery. It is shocking to see the pain inflicted by the holocaust. And wonderful to see how today life carry’s on ……… yet again with hope.

Thrilling glimpse of the Holocaust in all its' gruesomeness. Exquisite memorial to the 6M jewish lives lost for profiling diversity by a Pied Piper of Israel. So authentic in viewing, that many people are crying openly throughout the tour. They left nothing to the imagination , for it to be ignored and falsified none of the history.

Plan on spending the day. So personal.
Unspeakably sad, but so necessary to see. Listening to the stories from the people who lived through them left me emotionally drained. I have seen the Holocaust memorial in Washington DC and this is much more powerful.

This is a superb museum of Holocaust material and exhibitions. My wife and I spent 6 hours reading and viewing the material. We could have stayed for 2 full days.
The video presentations were excellent.
We also viewed the art museum but did not have enough time to complete it.
We will definitely return.

Wonderful museum…..extremely well done….organized and full of information…the grounds are beautiful….
Problem: there wasn’t any parking, Although we were with a tour guide in a tour guide SUV, we were unable to park in the tourist parking lot because we weren’t a bus….unacceptable….and disappointing. Tour guide was embarrassed as well….why are ONLY busses aloud to park there….our guide had a badge and the car we were in….was CLEARLY marked as tourist….
Things need to change so that access is available……

Yad Vashem Holocaust Remembrance Center is a must see place. If you want to learn, and everyone should be continuing to learn, or just reinforce your understanding, this is a great place to go.
A must see place so that what happened in Eastern Europe never happens again.

Yad Vashem is a memorial to the Holocaust that claimed the lives of six million European Jews. Yas Vashem is a graphic series of displays which bring the attention of visitors back to history, which can never be forgotten. Inspecting Yad Vashem takes several hours, it's a return to Hitler's Germany.

Yad Vashem is a memorial to those Jews who perished in the Holocaust and those who resisted the Nazi regime. It also commemorates the Righteous Among the Gentiles, those non-Jews who risked their lives to save their neighbors. Yad Vashem is a humbling experience. Only the Western Wall has more visitors. Yad Vashem should not be missed. Entry is free.

I thought I had learnt a lot when I visited Auschwitz in August but I soon discovered that that is only a section of the entire tragedy.
I didn't realised that there was over 1,000 ghettos, one which was in Shanghai,China (controlled by Japan) and I didn't realised that some of the people were gassed in van, not just in the chambers.
To me, the liberation had to happen but it wasn't a joyeous time for all, in fact people carried on dying and when those who survived returned to their home towns, some were unwelcomed. To think that they had survived such a horrific experience, to then be faced with this upon their return.
I had visited a number of the sites quoted ie the Vilnius Ghetto, Ponary etc but I haven't ever seen such graphic footage which was too much for some of my fellow visitors.
The recommended visit time was 1-2 hours. I was there for 3 hours, and I didn't listen to all of the audio, and I only visited this main hall, the memorial hall and the children's memorial. You could easily spend a good day here.
It was a shame it was so packed but then again, it's great to see so many people visiting.
Very easy to get to. Alight on the Light Rail - from the Central Station it is 6 stops to the end of the line Mt Hertzl. I walked it and it took me 45 mins. When you get to Mt Hertzl, there is a shuttle bus to take you to the entrance but it is only about 300 meters, and took me about 6 mins.
Such a sobering experience. A must if you are in the area.
