    Simply the best!
I have done Secret Food tours in Italy, France and now Istanbul. I rate Istanbul, hosted by the wonderful Melis, as the best! The places we went to were ones you would not know about without local knowledge. Melis is personable, knows her way around, and is passionate about food and Istanbul generally. I learnt so much, and certainly did not leave hungry! Book this tour with Melis; you will be delighted by the total experience.

Great time eating our way around Istanbul!
We had a great experience eating and drinking our way around the Asian part of Istanbul with Melis. We visited six different places and enjoyed their specialties. The program is very well balanced, allowing you to eat everything without feeling totally stuffed and having to pass on some deliciousness at the next stop. Melis had a lof of interesting info to share about both the food and Istanbul and she has a lof of recommendations for other things to do in Istanbul. Had a great time and would definitely recommend if you’re visiting the city!

    First Rate Istanbul Food Tour
First rate food tour with so many delicious dishes and my two teenagers loved it. Erbil did a fantastic job moving us around the city, weaving in Istanbul’s incredible history and basically taking us to places we never would have found on our own. We were sad when the tour ended!

    Not to be missed
A group of us booked this and it really was a highlight of the weekend - go at about 11.00 for long lazy lunch with local food at each stop and wonderful guide. Not to be missed.

A definte to do in Istanbul
An amazing tour and highly recommended - lovely guide and really interesting food and drink stops. Very good value and really worth booking ahead and to do it at about 11.00 am - a long slow lunch in about 8-10 different cafes

Great way to sample the best the city has to offer
We have done Secret Tours in other cities before and have always enjoyed them. We always like learning more about the food, culture, and history and trying different dishes early in our trip. That way, we know what to look out for during the rest of the holiday. Melis was lovely, and we had a good time. Unfortunately, we haven’t found Pide as perfectly thin and crisp on the European side of IST. We are ruined forever now. J/K.

    Learn about food and culture
The Kadikoy lunch tour was a great tour! Melis was a fantastic guide, Not only did we learn a lot about Turkish food, she taught us a lot about Turkish culture. The tour was well paced and very thoughtfully organized in terms of types of food chosen from different regions and flavor combinations . Melis was very knowledgeable and passionate about every stop on the tour, too. We also appreciated that she ran the tour with only two of us. I highly recommend this tour!

    very good tour
The tour was very good!!!!! It’s a great way to explore the local Turkish cuisine. Our guide, Melis was great as well. She provided more information than just food related information . I am very glad to have had her as our guide and would recommend her tour all.

    Tour highly recommended!
This tour was great! Melis was our guide and shared her knowledge of food as well as beautiful Istanbul and its customs. All food was delicious and restaurants were all fabulous. Easy walking to each one and time to sit and enjoy without rushing. Would highly recommend. You won't need breakfast!

Great tour and great food selection.
Can totally recommend this tour of the spice market and the Karakoy area. Our guide was Erbil, he was friendly and informative. There's plenty of food, so don't worry about not getting fed enough over the 3-4 hours. The food kept us going until early evening. We ate a great selection including meats and veg, fish/mussels, dessert, coffee, tea and more. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others.

Tastings in the Asian side of Istanbul.
A really interesting, fun and informative food tour on the Asian side of Istanbul. Our guide Melis was fun and good at giving the background to the various tastings. A very good tour - recommended.

    A wonderful tour
Melis was a fantastic guide during our 3-4 hr food journey through the Asian side of Istanbul. We appreciated her humor and the additional context/info behind the many delicious dishes. I took my parents, who can be picky eaters at times, but they were both raving about the quality of dishes at each stops. Thanks again Melis!

Enjoyable food tour on the Asian side of Istanbul.
The food tour was enjoyable. It allowed me to try a variety of different Turkish foods. Jeremy was friendly, knowledgeable and was able to share about the origin and the culture behind each food that we tried. I also enjoyed touring the Asian side of Istanbul, which was quieter than the European side. I felt that the food tour allowed me an opportunity to explore and experience Turkish culture. However, on a side note, it may be good to include more meat dishes as well, such as doner and kebab, to allow a greater variety of different types of Turkish foods in the food tour.

We learned a lot and enjoyed seeing a new area of the city as well as sampling some delicious things. Thoroughly recommended!

This was an insanely good experience. The tour takes place on the Asia side of the city, and the tour guide is easy to find. We visited 6 different places and sampled an insane number of dishes. There should be a HUGE warning not to eat before you book this tour - you eat, and eat, and drink, and eat some more.

The guide was so wonderful and we can't thank her enough for the great day!!

This is the way you should be visiting Istanbul, you truly won't regret it.

I was on Secret Food Tours other Istanbul food tour - the Spice Market and Historic Centre walking tour - led by Erbil. There were seven in our group which is a great number for this kind of walk. Erbil is an excellent guide, very knowledgeable and informative.

He told us about the food and Turkish eating habits with some history thrown in. There were seven stops that started with breakfast at the Spice Market and ended with baklava and coffee in Karakoy. There was a great variety of food in between but the leisurely pace meant I managed to try everything without feeling too full. At the same time I couldn’t have eaten another bite by the time we finished .

I can certainly recommend Secret Tours having been on their walking tours in several countries. If you’re lucky, you’ll get Erbil as your guide in Istanbul.

Our food tour with Melis in Kadiköy was a highlight of our trip to Istanbul! She provided a microcosm of Turkish cuisine, touring through all the key meals and drinks and Turkey’s richly varied regional fare. It was a perfect balance of information and delicious food. We also loved the chance to experience Kadiköy through a local perspective. Melis went above and beyond a usual food tour to include experiences: making pide, sampling local honey and learning to read coffee grounds.

I’m plant based and Melis accommodated a vegan/vegetarian diet with kindness and understanding. 10/10 recommend!

Istanbul: Turkish Cuisine Walking Food Tour with Guide. I scored the best guide Melis A. She truly loves her city of Istanbul and it showed in the way she spoke about it. She was very personable, knowledgeable and of course a FOODIE!! She took me to places that I otherwise would have never found on my own. I loved that she has a personal relationship with the vendors. She explained the history of all the venue's we went to including a personal note about the owners. She then explained the food I was about to eat and how it should be eaten. She even shared some cultural anecdotes which I loved because it was my 1st visit to Turkey so I enjoyed learning about the culture. I even had the opportunity to get involved and got to roll my own dough at the 2nd stop. Melis shared the history of the various areas we were walking through to get from one resto to the next. It helps to make you feel connected to your environment. And above of all else, the food was DELICIOUS. You are served real size portions and not just samples. Also, it'd be good if you carried a few extra Lira with you to purchase anything you liked, the honey shop for instance, you'll definitely want to bring some of that Turkish goodness home with you. If I ever get a chance to go back to Istanbul, I'd love to do another food tour with Melis so that she can take me to some more of her favourite spots. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes cuz it is a walking food tour after all. Member to wear comfortable clothes cuz you'll need room to expand, the food is that good!!!

My partner and I did the morning food tour in Kadikoy with Melis.

Food tours are such a great way to introduce yourself to a new city and this was no exception. I am such a fan of Turkish food so it goes without saying I loved everything we ate. Melis is a really genuine guide and it was really nice to get to know a little more about Istanbul whist we wandered around. Really enjoyed some hands on experience with pide making, perfect atmosphere in there before it gets frantic in the evenings!

Blinding Five Stars! Turkish food is indeed delicious, and we're glad you enjoyed everything you ate. It's wonderful that Melis was able to provide genuine guidance and share interesting information about Istanbul during your tour. The hands-on experience with pide-making sounds like a fun and authentic activity. We appreciate your feedback and hope to see you again soon for another memorable experience!

Absolutely amazing tour. It is such a fantastic context of the local life and cuisine. You truly are emersed in the ordinary life of this eccelectic side of Istanbul. Melis is wonderful and very accommodating. I happen to have been her only guest and I missed my ferry but she waited for me and greeted me with a warm embrace and smile.. And.. still took me to every eating spot that is part of the tour. Food amazing. Her tips top notch. I recommend that you try to do the tour earlier on your trip so you can use insights from the tour to guide your way through restaurants and street food to further extend your experience of the Country's cuisine and spices. Secret spots are a cherry on top. You won't want to leave. 100% recommend. Worth it.!

Was really fortunate to have Melis as my tour guide. The group that was supposed to attend the tour with me changed their booking at the last minute and I ended up having a 1-1 guide (lucky me!). The tour is easily the best itinerary I had in Istanbul. Melis really knows her way around the Asian part of Istanbul, and spared no details. I even learned about the marriage custom in istanbul! Check out the pics for some highlights!

We took the half day lunch tour. Our guide Melis made the experience very interesting and entertaining. We tried a variety of Turkish food that we wouldn’t otherwise have experienced. We followed Melis’ recommendations and had a great experience in both restaurants we tried. Would recommend this tour as a great way to see part of Istanbul and taste some delicious food
