We booked in advance online. It's quite a strange one to review. No photos or are allowed and you are asked to remain quite throughout the programme. You learn about the history of the dervishes and the religious impact, but you are almost a bystander to a ceremony. You watch the men go into a trance whilst they are whirling. Not for everyone, some people in the audience did nod off. It's one of those things which we can say we've seen.

Maybe I am being a bit unfair. This is more a religious ceremony, I feel a little guilty giving it an "average". However, having heard so much about the whirling dervishes, and having seen them in so many TV documentaries, I felt I had to see it for myself. It is an experience, no doubt, and I would recommend you see it, at least for bragging rights back home, and for ticking it off your bucket list. No photos or videos allowed. Which is indeed a pity, because I feel the organisers would get many more patrons if they allowed photos and videos. Tourists would go home and show the photos and videos to friends and relatives, and give the show wider publicity than what they would get otherwise. The dancers seem to be in some sort of trance. I would urge you to go at least an hour before starting time, and go through the photos and other exhibits in the lobby. It is almost a museum dedicated to the whirling dervishes. You can take photos in the lobby. Actually, the photos and other exhibits in the lobby gave me a better understanding of what this was all about. Not for kids. Little kids cannot sit still and be quiet. In fact, very small kids may even be frightened. As for older kids, well, they will be bored. To repeat: this is not for everyone, go if you are keen.

Being in Istanbul, this was very touristy. However, they provide commentary and explanation that allowed us to learn as well as enjoy the whirling. Nonetheless, the sense of mysticism was inescapable.

Visit here if you don't have a chance to visit a ceremony in the countryside (e.g. Konya).

Descriptions of clothing, sufis and ceremony were on display before the actual ceremony. During the ceremonyy there was a description of what was happening on an overhead display. This more educational than expected and also still interesting.
Do not arrive tired as it lasts about 1 hour it is dark and the music is very soothing. Mask wearing was enforced along with seating being spaced out with your group being seperated from other groups. Would highly recommend if you have not seen one yet. Booklet is available and gives history and explanations of Melvana Rumi, the Melvlevi Order, and the actual Sema. Entrance fee was about 33.50 usd, we reserved tickets about 3 weeks prior and received front row seats. Please notepictures and filming are not allowed.

We had an incredible experience at the centre, and in watching the show. The staff were kind, helpful, and incredibly patient with the sometimes rude and entitled audience members who failed to show the dervish ceremony the basic respect of silence, timely attendance, and no filming or photography.

The male member of staff overseeing the event was excellent in trying to maintain good customer service while maintaining the respectful tone for this spiritual event. He deserves a bonus for having to deal with some of the audience.

As a Sufi Muslim, I found the behaviour of some of the audience deeply offensive and would request that if you are not likely to truly show this age old spiritual ceremony the respect it deserves, then please don’t bother coming. It’s not fair on those of us who genuinely want to learn and engage.

This show was just as described. When you walk in, you are able to see a great display of the costumes and their symbolism. The show itself starts slowly - and is mesmerizing. It was quite warm and you feel a little sleepy. But this adds to the ambiance.

Please note - no photos or video can be taken. It states it in the description, but people were surprised when this was announced. Just throw yourself into the experience and enjoy!

It was a new and different experience for me.
They offer you beverages at the entrance and everybody has their seats pre-booked so you don't have to worry where you will sit.

I learned quite a bit about Rumi and Dervish orders and I'm glad I went to see the show.

Entrance is 250 Lira.
We also booked the Belly Dance show and got a discount for the entrance tickets, for 150 Lira!

Hodjapasha center is very easily found and accessible with few tram stops from wherever you are staying in Istanbul.

I am very happy that I selected this show at the cultural center. I was entertained and well informed by the time the show started thanks to the gallery out side of the performance area. The dervishes were mesmerizing and the entire experience was spiritually uplifting. I had not read any of Rumi's writings but I intend to.

It was a fun experience and a great way to learn about Rumi, probably the most famous dervish. The men were amazing and the movement together was smooth and seamless. There is no photo or video taking while the show is going on so its fun to just be in the moment and watch the intricate timing of the movements.

It was an incredible experience to witness! The setting was so intimate only 2 to 3 rows set an a circle… You really feel like you’re one with the darvesh - It was extremely spiritual and had me move to tears.

Since it is a religious activity applause is inappropriate and we are asked not to …but there was no need for it because there was absolute pin- dropped silence and you could see everyone how transformed they were by this.

The world in the race do it to live recitation of religious verses and music along with the days projection on the ceiling which tells you the states of religious salute that the were doing at any given moment.

They sure last exactly 60 minutes and for me personally it flew by.

I ended up finding many treasures written on the walls outside and the display of the history of spirituality and philosophy of Rumi. I also found Beautiful the Way scarves to buy from the shop in the waiting area… Yes the place is difficult to fine but if you go onto Google maps and ask a few of the shopkeepers around they will direct you to the right place.

This was probably one of the highlights of my trip to Istanbul
