      Amazing night out.
A fantastic show, we really, really enjoyed it and would highly recommend it. One of the best things we saw on our trip to Istanbul. The dancing, staging and music was wonderful.

      A must see in Istanbul!
This show made my entire trip to Turkey worth the visit. I'm shocked by how little they charge per ticket. The location (old hammam), the choreography, the costumes, the talented dancers - were all spectacular. The spinning man and solo belly dancer were my favorites. I'm truly impressed!

      Great experience
Traditional dances in beautiful coreography. Ok for families with children. Took one hour but it was too short. Best money spend in Istanbul.

      Really good! Highly recommended!
This was truly great - a packed 70 mins show representing a variety of cultural dances. The guy that played the musical instrument was really really good! And so was the lady who did the masked and psychedelic dances. Much refined than the usual belly dancing experiences that you hear so much of. Highly recommended.

      Amazing experience!
The Hodjapasha Theater in Istanbul offers a unique cultural experience, blending Turkey’s rich heritage with contemporary artistic performances. Located in a restored 15th-century Turkish bath, the theater provides an intimate and authentic setting that enhances each show. Highlights: 1. Location and History: • Situated in the heart of Istanbul, near significant landmarks like the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. • The building, originally a 15th-century bath, retains its historical architecture, adding cultural depth to the performances. 2. Performances: • Famous for traditional Turkish dance and music shows, including the Whirling Dervishes (Sema) and folk dances. • The Whirling Dervishes offer a deep spiritual experience, showcasing Sufi mysticism.

Breath-taking brilliance at its Irish best !
This is a regular international touring troupe of the National Dance Company of Ireland, but their 2024 UK Touring troupe is quite simply the best that they have ever toured ! Everything about the show is outstanding; the music, the musicians, the musicianship, the choreography, the lighting, the dancers and the sheer brilliance of the dancing; the cohesion, the precise exactitude of every dancers movements; it is all dynamic, explosive and breath-taking ! This is a Show not to be missed if you ever have a chance to see it.

      Rythym of dance Hodjapasha
Cultural dance form at best, it was of almost 1 hr program. With all forms starting from slow dance, to belly with fast number.

      Amazing show. Well worth going
A great show. It was lovely to see the varied styles of dance from different parts of Turkey. The solo drummer was spectacular. Only negative: we were enjoying it so much that it felt it stopped too early!

      Hojapasha cultural show, Istanbul
This is a wonderful cultural show not to be missed if you are in Istanbul. Lots of regional dance and costumes and with sensational musical back up, with a small audience number. Very highly recommended, so glad I discovered it and booked this evening, it was a definite highlight.

      Excellent show - book now!
My partner was a bit reluctant about the show but ended up loving it too, like me. A great variety of dances, and the dancers are amazing, full of energy and give a 100% performance even though this was a quieter night out of season. You get a much better idea of the culture of the country apart from the belly dance. And don't worry, there is a belly dance too.

      A nice experience
We have seen so many shows, so maybe we are harsh critics! The set up of the show, the venue and lighting is wonderful! I would suggest the quality of some of the costumes need more investment and some of the choreography could be improved, as well as music cuts and the ending of the show (when everybody bows and just walks off, could be nice to have a blackout or keep the picture) : just because, this is the only show like this in Istanbul, so it should be the best of the best! But overall, a nice experience.

      Mesmerizing and transcendental
I think those who rated this experience poorly did not research what the Whirling Dervishes are about. A quick read on Sufism is necessary to understand that this is a religious ritual, not a performance. I found this fascinating, hypnotic, and mesmerizing.

      Forgettable
We were expecting this to be a mystical experience. It seemed very commercialized operation. We did not the show memorable and would only recommend if one has nothing else to do.

      Mislead on the price
I had a brochure that my Hotel gave me with the price of 400 TL per person to see one of their shows. My Hotel made the reservation for 2 and we came very early to pay for the tickets. To my surprise they ask us 1000 TL per person. I said that was not the price from their own brochure and I show them. They didn't care and asked again for 1000 TL per person. That was more then double the price from their own brochure. It was measleading and we cancel on the spot the reservation and left.

We booked in advance online. It's quite a strange one to review. No photos or are allowed and you are asked to remain quite throughout the programme. You learn about the history of the dervishes and the religious impact, but you are almost a bystander to a ceremony. You watch the men go into a trance whilst they are whirling. Not for everyone, some people in the audience did nod off. It's one of those things which we can say we've seen.

Maybe I am being a bit unfair. This is more a religious ceremony, I feel a little guilty giving it an "average". However, having heard so much about the whirling dervishes, and having seen them in so many TV documentaries, I felt I had to see it for myself. It is an experience, no doubt, and I would recommend you see it, at least for bragging rights back home, and for ticking it off your bucket list. No photos or videos allowed. Which is indeed a pity, because I feel the organisers would get many more patrons if they allowed photos and videos. Tourists would go home and show the photos and videos to friends and relatives, and give the show wider publicity than what they would get otherwise. The dancers seem to be in some sort of trance. I would urge you to go at least an hour before starting time, and go through the photos and other exhibits in the lobby. It is almost a museum dedicated to the whirling dervishes. You can take photos in the lobby. Actually, the photos and other exhibits in the lobby gave me a better understanding of what this was all about. Not for kids. Little kids cannot sit still and be quiet. In fact, very small kids may even be frightened. As for older kids, well, they will be bored. To repeat: this is not for everyone, go if you are keen.

I booked this program to watch the whirling dervish and they actually booked me in for some random dance show! The tickets did not mention what the show was but when the show started about 20 minutes in there was no sign of the whirling dervish and when I went out to ask when they will be coming on and why they haven't come on as that is what I have paid to watch, the lady explained this isn't the whirling dervish show and is something completely different. The lady called over her manager who she explained to in Turkish and he turned around and looked at me and shrugged his shoulders and walked off. She said there is nothing she can do about it. I was really disappointed. They did not offer any money back and refused to book me in for another dervish show. Was really disappointed .

This was a very boring affair. The smart couple were the ones who left in the middle of the show as they saved time. Many guests were yawning and some, including the guy next to me, caught up on their sleep. The event is spread over an hour but first 30 mins is commentary and some (boring) instrumental music. The "dancing" is last 20-25 mins. And please dont wait for any grand finale because all there is to it is 60+ year old men swirling. What you see in the first 2 mins of the swirl is what will continue for the next 20 mins.

In hindsight, we wasted US $33/person and the time it took us to be there.

If you're looking for an interesting spiritual experience, this is for you. If you're looking for entertainment, this is not for you.

This was an amazing performance. First there were musicians, then there were the whirling dervishes. The musicians were OK. But I felt mesmerized by the dervishes and their ability to stay upright after so much whirling -- they made it worth it! About 10 minutes into the whirling part of the performance, I started watching the men's feet to better understand their movements and rhythms. So fascinating. I recommend arriving to the center a bit early so you can wander through the exhibition part of the center to learn more about Sufism and dervishes.

We had an incredible experience at the centre, and in watching the show. The staff were kind, helpful, and incredibly patient with the sometimes rude and entitled audience members who failed to show the dervish ceremony the basic respect of silence, timely attendance, and no filming or photography.

The male member of staff overseeing the event was excellent in trying to maintain good customer service while maintaining the respectful tone for this spiritual event. He deserves a bonus for having to deal with some of the audience.

As a Sufi Muslim, I found the behaviour of some of the audience deeply offensive and would request that if you are not likely to truly show this age old spiritual ceremony the respect it deserves, then please don’t bother coming. It’s not fair on those of us who genuinely want to learn and engage.

We did enjoy the show, not sure how "authentic" the experience was but the atmosphere slightly touristy. Nevertheless, the deverishes were mesmerising, twirling around in an infectious trance, and those playing the instruments were excellent as well. I've read that seeking a "Dervish Lodge" may provide a better experience - as they are less touristy & the theatres are more picturesque - but this is still great and definitely worthwhile for those interested in a cultural or spiritual experience while staying in Istanbul.

This show was just as described. When you walk in, you are able to see a great display of the costumes and their symbolism. The show itself starts slowly - and is mesmerizing. It was quite warm and you feel a little sleepy. But this adds to the ambiance.

Please note - no photos or video can be taken. It states it in the description, but people were surprised when this was announced. Just throw yourself into the experience and enjoy!

I am very happy that I selected this show at the cultural center. I was entertained and well informed by the time the show started thanks to the gallery out side of the performance area. The dervishes were mesmerizing and the entire experience was spiritually uplifting. I had not read any of Rumi's writings but I intend to.

We almost didn’t book the Whirling Dervish Experience after reading reviews of it being too long, but we were so glad we did as we felt it was just the right amount of time.

As you go in there’s a small room that tells you the history of the Dervish and examples of clothing, free water and toilets.

It starts with a 5 minute speaking introduction, 10 minutes of music (which was great), the main whirling, then before we knew it, it was over! No photography or clapping allowed, which seemed strange however it’s good to remember it’s a ceremonial dance, not a show for entertainment.

Highly recommend, we enjoyed it as a start to the evening before going out for dinner.
