About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- vllroberts0 contributionsAbsolutely fantastic!Fantastic 3.5 hours with our guide Caviar. We got to see all the best bits of Negambo. We were picked up outside our hotel and taken back. Best bits were the fish market on the beach and the lagoon which was worth the extra money. We saw Monkeys, a Water Monitor and Pelicans. Would really recommend the tour to anyone!Written March 24, 2025
- E7249MKestherm0 contributionsA great introduction to Sri Lankan CuisineA great introduction to the Sri Lankan cuisine. We have done many food tours on our travels and we really enjoyed this one. During our last taster we were quite full and there was more than half a plate of food left. On our way back to the hotel the driver stopped and gave it to a homeless man. They did this without saying a word to us about it. To us, this gesture summed up how kind and friendly this business is. We would definitely recommend.Written March 13, 2025
- kimworldtraveler0 contributionsLovely into to Sri Lankan food!I really enjoyed the intro to Sri Lankan food! Especially the coconut milk hopper. Yummy! The food was very good and I was surprised at how full I was at the end. Ricky was a good guide with good English for the tour.Written March 13, 2025
- michaeldA3486UC0 contributionsGreat Food TourWe had a very nice tour with our friendly driver David. David told us a lot about the city while we were driving through the city with a Tuk Tuk. The food was delicious as well, we tried several dishes including a refreshing coconut, traditional kottu and hoppers. All in all it was a great tour and we recommend it.Written February 19, 2025
- 580pascalep0 contributionsGreat variety of food!It was a great tour to experience a wide variety of Sri Lankan food. I like it however I can't have too spicy food, that's just me. I wish we were exposed to some of their fruits too in the food tour. We loved the desert, curd with honey, yummy!Written February 15, 2025
- SuzyBurgen0 contributionsLocal Food tasting evening by tuk tukThis tour is a little gem. Racing around Colombo in a tuk tuk tasting local foods and teas. We had great fun, ate some great (spicy) traditional foods with Sarmilan our driver and guide. He made our night fun, drove well and gave us great information. Good value for money and I would highly recommend this tour.Written February 15, 2025

- Sherpa567670351800 contributionsColombo on a banana leafThis was fantastic! I was introduced to good I'd never have found otherwise - most or all were Sri Lankan specialties. All were very varied and utterly delicious. We travelled all over between tastings & my guide was very well informed and pleasant throughout - he had done all his homework! We had hoppers, banana leaf pittu, a tea tasting & koththu amongst other delights. I came home very happy and full as an egg. The price included everything, it was excellent value. I'd highly recommend this!Written February 4, 2025

That alone was quite thrilling. A great, and abundant selection of local delights were enjoyed along the way. If you are sensitive to spicy food, let them know so you aren’t surprised. - Guide677465165200 contributionsDelicious Food tourThe Tuk Tuk Food Tour in Colombo was fantastic! Tasting such a variety of delicious foods in one afternoon was incredible. There was plenty to eat, so come hungry! Cruising through the city, even in rain, was fun. Our guide, Black Caviar, was knowledgeable and handled everything expertly. Highly recommended!Written January 12, 2025
- lisamQ7158EK0 contributionsWorth doing when in Colombo, authentic Sri Lankan food.Fun evening activity, worth doing when in Colombo. Lots of food and it was tasty, also got to see the city at night in the Tuk tuk. Some things I didn't like: the tour felt really rushed.. the food arrived in each restaurant immediately and once I was finished we moved to the next place with hardly any time to relax and digest. We completed the tour in 2 hours rather than the stated 3 to 4 hours. I was on my own therefore ate alone while the guide waited for me. I was expecting to be in a group and would have liked if there were others doing the tour with me and interact between food. Felt a bit uncomfortable having everyone watching me eat alone! I'd suggest maybe for solo bookings, check if they would like to be paired with other people. "Desert" wasn't good, shop purchased container of curd with honey. I didn't like this! The rest of the food was goodWritten January 10, 2025
- Danielle P0 contributionsFun to try new foods, but felt like we we’re being rushed and not enough time between stops 😔Although a great food tour with a great guide the whole felt a bit more like a food challenge with the experience being very rushed (it only took 2 hours door to door and not the 3-4 hours advertised) we were given so much food (you won’t go hungery which is great!) but very little time between stops before we were given another massive meal! It would have also been nice to have more information about the food and restaurants but we were very much left to it after food was served. Still a fun evening but a few improvements could be made. Just felt like we were being rushed.Written January 9, 2025

Absolutely fantastic tour. So glad we did it. We went on the evening tour starting at 4pm, finishing at around 8pm. Or guide to us to see all the Colombo places that we would never visit such as the local markets and museums in the heart of Colombo 1.
We treated local cuisine from various places, sampled local fruit juices and various significant temples and landmarks.
The tea shop was incredible and we purchased a lot of delicious tea at sampling various flavours.
Would recommend to anyone who wants an authentic, safe, tour of Colombo sites

We were met promptly by Ricky.
He thought maybe his English wasn't too good, it was superb.
From the minute we boarded our sporty little chariot for the day Ricky was pointing out different buildings and telling us facts and info as we zipped by other places. He was full of knowledge of his city and happy to share it with pride.
Never felt rushed at all.
He always offered to stop when we passed something else, for us to take pictures.
He accompanied us to every sight as well and made sure we were given plenty of background info to help us understand the building / temple/ area we were in. This was invaluable.
Pettah saw us given some drinks and snacks. Really tasty.
The lunch at the end of the tour was in a locals eatery and was really full of flavours.
The only criticism of the tour, actually worked out for me and this trap would have been the owners direction not our guides.
No where on the itinerary did it indicate a stop at a "tea shop". It's not really a tea shop that sells cups of tea but a shop that wants you to buy various teas it sells.
This was annoying as it ate into paid for tour time. It also shows the firm doesn't take into account or care you may have visited various teas estates and already bought your tea direct from source and don't want to see or buy anymore.
In essence this felt like a tourist trap feature that are typically designed to get / earn commission for the firm that got you there.
Two things though....
1. There was zero, and I mean zero, pressure sales in the shop. Smell, taste and thank you for coming.
2. Which is where it worked for me, but not for tea. They sell C5 and Alba grade cinnamon at good pricing in here. Bought a kilo
I'd happily recommend the shop, on the basis of no pressure and cinnamon pricing, in its own right. But as long as it's treated like and feels like a tourist trap by the way the tour is organised I think it's going to cause some impacts.
The shop should be clearly shown in the itinerary to allow the customer to decide to bypass in advance. A shop selling tea is not a tourist attraction, the estate that grows the tea is. Tea is integral to Sri Lanka, a shop simply selling tea is NOT part of the integral heritage.
Amazing tour, amazing guide
Good value.
Highly recommended, just make it very clear at booking if you don't want tourist trap tea shops.

The tour was nice, but there are a few items to note. Exiting the port, there were a few hundred Tuk-Tuk drivers offering an hour tour for $10. There was a lot of drivers with name signs picking up reserved tours. Having to walk the 1 kilometer to the Kingsbury hotel, while fighting other tuk-tuk operators the entire ways seemed ridiculous. Our tuk-tuk guide was about 5’ tall and could easily see out the front windshield. I am 6’ foot and had to bend almost 90 degrees to see out the front. You want to watch where you are going. Second, the lunch was excellent , but very spicy. My wife doesn’t do spicy. There was some language issues as our guide, who was very knowledgeable, accent was very challenging. Make sure you have WhatsApp loaded, since this was the avenue used to contact us as we waited outside the Kingsbury hotel.

I took this tour in the morning mid January, 2024. Mr. Poul picked me up from my hotel on time. The tour operators even made adjustments to my tour timings because my flight was delayed. He was prompt and took decent pictures. As per my hotel’s location, we went to see the Independence memorial hall first. We took a quick tour, he directed me to take some pictures and a stone slab where more details were written in English for my better understanding. Then we saw the New Town Hall, Red Mosque & Gangaramaya (Vihara) Buddhist Temple from outside and took some pictures. The fees for the temple are not included in the tour but can be paid on the spot and it is a must visit along with Lotus Tower. I did not go with this tour as I had the rest of my tour mates joining me the next day and the fees for these 2 was included in it. The Old Town Hall also is a must visit and requires an entrance fee which was included in this tour. Its beauty is old but still mesmerising. I had a fun time in the lecture hall where again I was able to get good pictures taken by Mr. Poul & also signed my name onto the lecture hall book where a momentous meeting took place in 1906. We took a small break for some snacks, juices & coconut water. He even directed me to some souvenir shops, they weren’t very good or to my liking but that is just my opinion. I was able to buy some good Ceylon tea though. We passed by the Manning Market, Colombo Railway station, Galbokka lighthouse and Kayman’s Gate Belltower. All in all, it was a decent couple of hours tour. I think it takes about 3 or more hours in general but I was too tired from my flight and was going to visit a couple of places with the rest of my tour mates later so it was over earlier. There are quite a few places missing from this tour but can be paid for on the stop and completed in the same time range. A traditional Sri Lankan lunch is also included in this tour but as I was not feeling up to it that day and was going to eat it in the upcoming days, I replaced it for snacks instead. I understand that English is a 2nd/3rd language in most countries and hence cannot fault Mr. Poul on this but communication between us and the tour operator was slightly difficult due to this. Other than that, he was quite wonderful and I would recommend this tour for people who have less time in Colombo and want to cover a lot of things quickly.

A really good tour. We went as a couple, but we joined up with another couple; so there were two Tuk-Tuks with a lead and trainee guide/driver (Ricky & Mohamed). The guides spoke Excellant English. We went to many places of interest over 4 hours and had a synthetic lunch included in the price. Our only expense was $2 each to go to one of the temples/museum. It was very sunny, we were given multiple bottles of water. It was quite hard work getting out of Tul-Tuk so many times, but we were thankfully not taken to jewellery shops etc, they were all good informative photo stops

Our driver/guide, Rishad, arrived ahead of time and proceeded to give us an informative tour of the city, visiting temples and other interesting landmarks. There were a few things that we really wanted to do that weren't on the original itinerary, but Rishad was happy to adjust his route accordingly. The tour ended with an authentic local rice and curry lunch. A great way to spend half a day in Colombo.

Caviar and Ricky were great guides and very keen to ensure we enjoyed our tour. We had 2 tuktuks for 3 of us, as my husband and son are very tall,
I would 100% recommend this tour if you have time in Columbo, to see all the historical and important buildings, and experience the city tuktuks,

The only reason for not giving this five stars is that when we met our guide, he told us the company had canceled our tour and refunded our money - but we had never been alerted to this. It was quite upsetting and we asked our guide to make it right. While we did have to pay again at the end, we anticipate getting the original payment back. That said, the tour was excellent and our guide, Romesh, was knowledgeable and very helpful to everyone (he was the guide for 3 tuk tuks and we traveled the roads together). Romesh deserves 5+ stars! Our tuk tuk driver, a trainee named Nuhas, navigated the busy roads remarkably and managed to keep up with the other two tuk tuks. Kudos and 5 stars to Nuhas, too. We saw many sites and sights, and even stopped for lunch (included). Other than the original glitch, we highly enjoyed and recommend this tour - and if your guide turns out to be Romesh, you’re in for a fascinating tour. Very well worth it!

Our driver Faizal was the best - very knowledgeable, attentive and keen to meet our needs. Despite heavy rain we saw everything on the itinerary and he did his best to keep us dry. The traffic was crazy but he kept us safe. It was a great introduction to Colombo and indeed Sri Lanka. Highly recommend to all.

I took this tour last week as I was only staying in Colombo for two days , and it was an incredible experience starting with the first class tuk-tuk which had a welcome drink with a table, fans on both sides and a guide to Colombo. My tour guide, Alos, was exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable. In just a few hours, he took me to numerous places in Colombo, ensuring I got to see the majority of attractions.
One of the highlights was when Alos went above and beyond by fulfilling my request to visit the International cricket ground by getting permission from the ground security. His kindness and willingness to accommodate my preferences truly impressed me.
I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Colombo on a short trip and looking to make the most of their time in Colombo.
