Day 1: Negombo - Anuradhapura

Stop At: Mihintale, Anuradhapura Sri Lanka
Mihintale is the spot where King Devanampiya Tissa of Anuradhapura met Mahinda, a Buddhist monk and son of the Indian Buddhist Emperor, Ashoka. Mahinda asked the king a riddle and when the king was able to solve it, Mahinda deemed him to be a worthy disciple and converted him to Buddhism. There are religious monuments all over the hill, and the ruins of a monastery and a hospital.

Ruwanweliseya Dagoba is considered a marvel for its architectural qualities and sacred to Buddhists all over the world. It was built by King Dutugemunu, who united Sri Lanka after defeating Chola King Elara. This Dagoba was known as Mahathupa, Swarnamali Chaitya, Swarnamali Mahaceti (in Pali) and Ratnamali Dagoba.

Stop At: Isurumuniya Temple, At Royal Pleasure Gardens, Anuradhapura 50000 Sri Lanka
Isurumuniya Temple is like a symbol of ancient stone carvings. You will find number of incredible carvings there, such as Isurumuni Lovers, the Man and the Horse Head, Elephant Pond etc. This temple was built by King DevanampiyaTissa for 500 children birth to reside in, after they were ordained. Housed within the nearby museum is the famous 6th century carving called the "Isurumuniya Lovers".

Stop At: Jethawanaramaya Stupa, Watawandana Road B341, Anuradhapura 50000 Sri Lanka
Jethawanaramaya Stupa is one of the tallest stupa's of Sri Lanka. The stupa was constructed by the King Mahasen, between the years 273 – 301. The Jethawanaramaya stupa holds the relic of the Lord Buddha’s sash or the waist tie. The Stupa is also considered to be one of the prominent destinations listed under the sixteen places, that a devoted Buddhist should visit at least once in their lifetime. Visiting this stupa is not only limited to Buddhists, but any person who has a common understanding and love for ancient irrigations and cultural heritage of Sri Lanka should also visit the Jethawanaramaya Sthupa.

Day 2: Anuradhapura - Polonnaruwa - Sigiriya

Stop At: Polonnaruwa Vatadage, Sacred City, Polonnaruwa Sri Lanka
Polonnaruwa Vatadage belongs to the Polonnaruwa Kingdom. It is a structure which is built encircling the stupa for protection. It is believed that the structure was built during the reign of King Parakramabahu. This is the most famous Vatadage among the other Vatadage structures found in Sri Lanka. It has two stone platforms and only single entrance is there to access the lower platform. There is four entrance to the upper platform facing four cardinal points and four Buddha statues are located facing to each entrance. The stupa is placed at the center of the upper floor in between the Buddha statues.

The Gal Viharaya otherwise known as the stone temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Viharaya contains four Buddha statues, which have been carved on solid granite stone depicting irresistible sublimity. These four statues consist of two seated figure, a standing figure and a reclining figure. Each statue is placed within individual cave shrines.

Day 3: Sigiriya - Dambulla - Kandy

The relics of Buddha sacred tooth hold quite important role in the political reign in Sri Lankan Government since it is believed that whoever holds the relic of the sacred tooth of Lord Buddha holds the power of government of the country.

Peradeniya Royal Botanical Garden is the largest of that nature in Sri Lanka spreads over an area of about 147 acres on the bank of The Mahaweli river, the longest river in the country. It is said that there are more than 4,000 different species of plants and 10,000 trees at Peradeniya Garden. After the British took control of the kingdom of Kandy in 1815, the royal park became a botanical garden in 1821. The Royal palm avenue (Raja Thal Mawatha) planted by the British in 1905 offers a magnificent sight to visitors. The Orchid house nurtures an outstanding collection in the park.

Day 5: Nuwara Eliya - Ella

Day 6: Ella - Little Adam Peak - Yala

Day 7: Yala - Weligama - Galle

Stop At: Weligama Beach, Matara Sri Lanka
Weligama is a popular tourist destination and hosts several boutique hotels. The name Weligama itself, in Sinhala, means `Sandy Village’ which is a direct reference to the sandy bay beach in the town. Weligama beach is famous for its stilt fishermen. In chest-deep water on the beach, just a few meters off-shore, are the stilt fishermen perched on a cross bar fixed on a single pole planted into the sea-bed.

Day 8: Galle - Negombo

Built by the Portuguese in 1588 and fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century, the UNESCO World Heritage Galle Fort survived the 2004 tsunami. Today, Galle Fort is the main reason visitors flock to Galle. A walking tour reveals history and lovely ocean views. A stroll around the streets past old warehouses, churches and historic houses offers fine colonial architecture and a glimpse into the past. The Dutch left an architectural legacy of homes, churches and warehouses along with Dutch-sounding road names. Dutch words pepper the Sri Lankan vernacular and the cuisine has some Dutch influence.

Galle Lighthouse also is known as Pointe De Galle Light is Sri Lanka’s oldest light station. Established in 1848 as the first onshore lighthouse in Galle, Sri Lanka, the original 80 feet structure was destroyed by a fire and the existing second structure was built in 1939, just 100 meters away from where its predecessor stood.

Stop At: Maritime Archeological Museum (Galle), Queen Street Duch fort, Galle 80000 Sri Lanka
The museum is one of the main tourist attraction places in Galle and is not hard to find; its signature yellow walls, which have been an inspiration in the design of The Fortress Resort & Spa, can be seen from quite a distance away. The building of the museum is an artefact in itself as it belongs to the latter part of the 17th century and was first used as a warehouse by the Dutch. Today, the museum is filled with an eclectic collection of artefacts relating to ancient maritime trade, seafaring and fishing. It also has a rather curious display of life-size dioramas demonstrating the conventional methods of fishing as well as a ´walk into the sea´ diorama which shows deep sea fish, natural coral beds and seagrass beds.
