I had the pleasure of experiencing a sunrise hike with Lanka Safe Tour, and it was absolutely breathtaking. What a country & what a great way to see it! Felt super safe with our guide Prasanna who drove brilliantly & was always so willing to answer all our questions & adapt the itinerary to suit our interests. The dawn hikes were a highlight, as well as two incredible safaris & many temple visits. We ate superbly well - local lunches & some great hotel food especially in the smaller hotels where we were often the only guests! All in all a busy, fascinating, wonderful experience. My wife and I took a day trip tour from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya with Kavishan. We had an amazing day and this was mainly due to Kavishan being such a great driver and tour guide. Kavishan has great English and was able to answer my hundreds of questions about Sri Lanka, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya.

I booked a tour from 10/08 to 25/08. The price(1500 dollars) was reasonable. We only wanted a driver because I booked the hotels by myself. The tour company was very fast to reply. The tour itself was not perfect. First driver, Hashana seemed very well-known about the sights and he was very eager to show us around. His English was very good. Unfortunately, in beginning we ran into some problems. The first problem was that the tour company didn’t mention that we should pay for the driver’s accommodation when we booked the tour. They ended up paying for the driver’s accommodation, but I needed to talk about this matter two times. The second problem was the payment. I paid 100 dollars as advance payment. Hashana asked about the rest of the payment and rest of payment was 1400 dollars. Hashana told me that I could pay through a payment link so I didn’t need to pay bank charges. When I got the payment link I could see the payment was in LKR and the amount I needed to pay was around 1500 dollars. Bank charge around 100 dollars is a lot of money. From the information folder they are mentioning 4% bank charge. 4 % of 1500 dollars is 60 dollars. If the payment in dollars(advance payment) and the agreed price of the is in dollars, they should take the last payment in dollars as well. From my bank information: 10280 kr(Danish) is paid the second time. 1500 dollars is around 10.057 kr. I paid 100 dollars upfront. 100 dollars is around 670 kr. In total I paid 10.950 kr. I almost paid 950 kr. more than we agreed. 950 kr. is 141 dollars. 141-60 dollars(bank change) =81 dollars just went where???? The math is not matching. Our new driver Malith was a new tourguide who didn’t talk or understand English very good. He could understand and talk very basic. Good things about Malith were that he was always on time. He was a very good driver. We always felt safe. Unfortunate sides: The second day he asked me about my civil status. I am 29 years old and he is around my age. This made me very uncomfortable. I ended lying and saying I was married. I am single. Maybe his question was innocent, but it is not appropriate. He lacked engagement in being a guide. He only did the basic. Examples: Hashana recommend cooking class in Ella. When we arrived in Ella, I asked Malith about the cooking class and if he could find any for us. Next day nothing happened, and I asked him again and he asked if we didn’t know how to cook. What??? I ended up searching cooking classes and asked him to book the class I wanted. In Trincomalee I asked him if he knew any spots we should see. I wanted to visit Trincomalee because of diving. He mentioned something about hot springs water. A quick search by myself showed so many pretty temples. I told him the places I wanted to see with my mom. These situations showed lack of enthusiasm. The third situation was not only Malith’s fault. Hashana asked if we wanted to buy some books for orphanages in Jaffna. Of course, we wanted that. He told us that orphanages in Jaffna were small and 30 sets were enough. I ended up buying 50 sets. When we were going to Jaffna, Malith showed an orphanage with 100 children. I told him to ask Hashana because he was the one recommending doing this and he talked like he knew places. Nothing happened. We ended up asking the hotel in Jaffna and they provided us contact information for an orphanage. I couldn’t get through that orphanage and I ended up buying 50 sets more for the orphanage with 100 children. This situation made me very irritated. This situation was not again professional. Malith is a good driver but he is not a guide. Many of the problems we ran into was because of his lack of knowledge or lack of interest. Our expectation was not met and there were too many bumps. The tour was not like the worst tour but not the perfect tour. It was an okay tour. Many times, it felt too unprofessional. The swift between Hashana and Malith was not optimal.

One of the highlights was seeing a leopard in the distance something we never expected! Lakshan was incredibly knowledgeable and had a sharp eye, pointing out animals we might have missed, including peacocks displaying their vibrant feathers and crocodiles sunbathing by the river. My kids were absolutely fascinated by the sight of water buffaloes grazing peacefully, and we even spotted a variety of exotic birds that we had never seen before. What made the experience even more special was how engaging and family-friendly the tour was. Lakshan made sure everyone, including our kids, was entertained and learned something new. Lanka Safe Tour truly made our wildlife experience one we’ll never forget. If you're planning a family trip to Sri Lanka, I highly recommend going with them it was perfect in every way!
