Good atmosphere and bad calculation on things
I have a mixed feelings about Naturalyst Camp Safari. We booked a package Safari with full board. Before going to Naturalyst Camp I have wrote few messeges to them to ashure what is included in this packed. I was told that it includes tented accommodation, safari with entrance tickets and all meals.mensioned that it includs. Than we started a safari tour it apears that entrance tickets we need to pay our selfs. It is a bit confusing why if it is a full package but we payed it at the entrance. Next day during a check out we have got a bill with a service charge which was not mentioned in a booking (VAT was mentioned), and some more things (they say it is a charge for a jeep). It took a time to discuss, negotiate and reduce a price becouse we bough a package! Why we need to pay for a tickets and pay for a jeep? Be carefull than you buy package from Naturalyst camp. Avoiding missunderstandings in a future it must be clearly written in a booking.com what the package includes and what extra charges awaits. If to forget thease things, confusion and misunderstandings there was pleasant atmospher and friendly, polite staff members. Great dinner and ecofriendly invirement. Baboo is a cook at the camp and a nice friend. Best wishes for him.

      Not recommended
We did not enjoy our stay here. Despite numerous phone calls they were not prepared to properly accommodate our group of 10 people. When we arrived there were only 6 beds. They did not provide the last bed until 9:30pm. One tent did not have running water and the staff did nothing about it. The dinner could not be served before 9pm. Also, we had to get up at 4am in order to make the line for the safari at Yala. The instructions they gave were confusing too. All in all, we would not chose to ever go there again.

      A con and a fraud
Our driver was directed to the Wild Panthera camp. There we were told that the Naturalist Camp had been destroyed by a monsoon the previous week (Christmas week). Bookings are still being taken now. Dangerous and primitive accommodation, no running water, no sheets on bed, disgusting food, unlit paths with dangerous snakes including cobras. Tents ridden with insects. No internet to find out that the cost of this camp was 1/5 of the Naturalist but we were intimidated into paying the full original cost. They also tried to flog us a safari at 50% over the going rate. Clearly run by a con man.

      Great safari experience
What a amazing way to experience the beautiful jungle and wildlife of sri lanka! The tents are spacious and clean with a surprisingly comfortable large bed. The crew was very kind and arranged a last minute safari for us. We had a private breakfast and dinner in the middel of the surrounding nature. After dinner we ended the day with a cosy campfire. Wonderful!!

3 night stay, 2 days of Safari, 1 night of Birthday!
My partner Victoria and I had a really lovely time at The Naturalist Safari Camp. The biggest compliment I could pay was the guys who ran the camp were the friendliest, sweetest and most accommodating hosts we have EVER had on our travels! We were greeted with fresh juices and a very large and spacious clean tent. We ended up staying for three nights and doing two days of safari, having our daily lunch breaks back at the camp, as well as nightly dinners by candlelight next to a large campfire, under the stars. We felt extremely well looked after in this time. The staff were unbelievably friendly and did everything to accommodate for our needs. This included a last minute dash to a local cake designer to decorate a birthday cake for Victoria to present after dinner on the final night! On the first night, we didn't realise how hot it would get but the staff made sure we had an extra fan for the second and third nights and this helped greatly - we slept soundly for the following two nights. The beds were clean and comfy. The food is special in the sense that you feel it is true Sri Lankan food - authentic, spicy, full of flavour and cooked with real heart. The birthday BBQ they did for us was the best and most authentic food we had in Sri Lanka, and it was great to feel like we got a true Sri Lankan dining experience. I was even allowed to help make some roti (bread) to put on the outdoor grill! We were also given fried lake fish, the most delicious dahl lentil soups, outstanding chicken curry, yellow rice, red rice, tuna steaks -- we felt spoilt, and they were very generous with the portions as well! Another highlight was the outdoor private showers which were located behind each tent. Possibly the most connected I felt with nature was having a shower with lovely cooling water to wash the sweat and dust after the safari as the stars came out to shine. Unforgettable. Many thanks to Charmara, Amila, Budhika, Nillika , the chef, and all else. Well done, and thank you. Tanvir and Victoria.

      A unique experience...
We stayed here for one night after our Yala safari and were pleased to find we had the site to ourselves for the night. The staff were super helpful- we arrived in the dark and they helped us to our large tent, and then guided us back for our barbecue dinner. We had a special bonfire and were served chicken with vegetables and rice. It was a simple but delicious meal. The tents were definitely what I would call "glamping" with an ensuite. This was much appreciated. You have a cold shower out the back, but this is refreshing as Yala is such a warm place. The breakfast served the next day was huge, and the gents who run the place are on hand for anything you may need. Highly recommend for a brief stay, especially if it's at the end of an afternoon safari as there's not so much to do here. A special experience.

What An Experience - Simply Love It
Not the poshest of accommodation but the staffs are the best in Sri Lanka. So helpful and very accommodating. The camping site was so quiet and relaxing that we are even able to enjoy the sound of the chirping birds. I was able to relax, read a book and enjoy nature at the same time. It is like a pit stop or recharge stop for me before going to the National Park. I highly recommend this place. It's clean and you will be able to take your mind off the hustle and bustle of city life. Two thumbs up!

      Different
The tents and bathrooms are lovely and spotlessly clean, and we enjoyed the novelty of sleeping under canvas and of dining under the stars next to the camp fire. We thought that the management might want to look into providing larger towels, addressing the unpleasant smell from the bathroom sink and adding a bit more cover between the tent and shower section! In the grand scheme of things these are quite minor issues and we know that this place is still developing and we did enjoy our stay; hopefully this feedback will be taken on board. A few other things to be aware of: It is very, very hot here and there is nothing to do on site after you return from safari. Bring a book! We asked to be taken to the local beach for the afternoon and they organised a 'beach tour' for us. The barbecue dinner is a large portion of rice and veg with a small bit of chicken - it's fine and filling, but don't expect a feast. The staff are very eager to please (we particularly appreciated the welcome cooling towel and deliciously cool watermelon juice) but they seem a bit inexperienced and most have very limited English. We found it strange that sometimes they directed all questions to my boyfriend even though I was the one replying - once he was dozing on the bed and they still chose to speak to him rather than me. Yala is very busy and feels a bit like a theme park at times - but perhaps we have been spoilt by previous safaris in Kenya. Still a fun experience.

      We loved it.
We loved our time with Naturalist, they were very helpful, very friendly and extremely generous. The tents are definitely spacious enough and having an actual toilet was a relief. Showering outside was unique, but there was something beautiful about it. Amazingly we had internet provided and we were catered for from start to finish. The lunch was a particular highlight, prepared for by local villagers. The only negative was that it was hotter inside the tent than it was outside and the coolers were inadequate. They need to be much stronger during the hotter periods - we live in the middle east and still struggled. Safari guide was excellent and could spot some incredible things that we missed. We saw a leopard within minutes of our safari not to mention crocodiles, eagles, iguanas, all sorts. There is also a beach close by and they will send a tuk-tuk for you should you require a break from safari. Highly recommended.

2 Day Safari in Yala National Park
We travelled to Yala National Park with our guide Imran from Beyond Escapes. He was outstanding and couldn't do enough to make our experience enjoyable. When in Yala we stayed with the Naturalist and stayed close by to Yala and enjoyed an evening safari followed by an early morning safari. We were lucky enough to see all animals leopard, elephants, etc. Accommodation very comfortable and meals tasty. Service and expertise were outstanding.

      Camping in style
We have just returned from a two day stay here. We loved it. The camp itself is fairly basic but what you would expect from a campsite. The tents are spacious with an en-suite and outside shower (loved this). It was quite hot though despite AC. We were able to go on two safaris and saw leopards, elephants, buffalo, peacocks, wild boar etc. The camp arranged all our safaris. The bonus to this camp though are the staff. They were very friendly, polite and reallg helpful. We had a BBQ on the first night, outside by candle light with a camp fire. Definitely a unique and wonderful trip there. I wouldn't miss out on this camp, would highly recommend.

      Wonderful hospitality
We loved our three night stay! We were collected early for safari two mornings and were provided packed lunches. For dinners we had home cooked rice and curry with fish, we opted out of the bbq as we aren't meat eaters. It was absolutely delicious! On our second day we had a free afternoon and were taken by tuk tuk to a temple and beautiful nearby beach. Anything we asked for they were there to help. The bed is comfortable and we had a portable AC/fan unit to keep us cool. We are at tables lit by lanterns and listened to the jungle sounds, and there was a fire to sit around at night. Yes this is a little pricey compared with some other Sri Lanka accommodation, but not compared with other glamping places. I think given the overheads for a place like this and the wonderful staff it was definitely worth it. It's not in Yala (no accommodation is) but rather very easy access, in proximity to the other glamping places but you can't see them or anything. Absolutely recommend!
