      Amazing day!
Nim was an excellent guide and cooking instructor. I had an absolutely mazing experience! I’m a professional chef myself and learned about so many new techniques, spices, aromatics and traditional cooking. He was a wonderful host in his kitchen and really enjoyed learning about this beautiful country and customs. I highly recommend attending a tour and class. You won’t be disappointed!

      A wonderful experience
Nim is so charming and informative you cannot help but be captivated by his enthusiasm for the food of his homeland. Starting in the market where we chose the base for the evenings curries and were taught about the unique fruit vegetables and spices. Then back to his home where we cooked curries that were simply delightful. He is a wonderful host if you are struggling to choose a cookery class - pick this one you will not regret it

      Amazing food Tour in Colombo
If you do a tour tour in Sri Lanka look no further and book it with Rustic food Tour. It was one of the best food tours I've ever made. As I was already a few days in Sri Lanka I've tried a lot of traditional food already, so Nim (my Giude) adapted the tour and let me try food that i never had. There was no rushing, high quality places, fun conversations.

      Time very well spent
Rustic food tour with guide Nim. Thoroughly recommended. There were only 3 of us so it felt very personal. The food quality was good, with a wide range of Sri Lankan dishes. Communication was excellent. We were flagging a bit towards the end as we had just arrived that morning and jet lag was kicking in .

Great cultural experience. Num the guide part owns the business and has an in depth knowledge of Sri Lankan food an it's place in Sri Lankan history and culture. Relaxed fun and educational. Well planned starting at the fresh produce markets then to street snacks through to fairly high end. Great intro to SL.

      A culinary and cultural adventure
We had a very pleasant evening in Columbo Sri Lanka with our fantastic tour guide, Nim. He took us on a culinary and cultural adventure. We experienced street food, Sri Lankan curry, Tamil food, picnic food in an old Dutch Burgher house and Ceylon tea in a tea house. Nim was so informative and passionate about his country and it’s food and provided us with great photos and memories.

Wonderful country and awesome food in nice company
I got that tour as a Birthday present from a good friend. So we met Nim (our guide) in Colombo, went to different local food places and tried typical Sri Lankan food, incl. Tamil food. We really loved it. Had good conversations and a very good company together. Afterwards we went to a pub together and had a funny night ;-) On the next day we met again at a market to buy all ingredients to try to cook curries, Rotti and Sambol ourselves. Was so awesome. I highly recommend this Tour and cooking classes. Thx Nim for this wonderful experience.

Perfect way to spend a day in Colombo
It was an awesome tour with lots of different food. Everything was included and you can also suggest food that you would like to try. It was only me who booked the tour for the evening and as a female traveller I felt safe and taken good care of. My guide was really polite and we had some nice conversations since he was really nice and his English was fine. It was a perfect tour to start my travels in Sri Lanka, to get an introduction to the local cuisine by a local and the best way to get to see the major sights of Colombo. Highly recommend!

Wonderful introduction to Sri Lankan cuisine
Our excellent food tour was good preparation for the rest of our holiday. We started at 4.00 pm, by which time it was getting cooler and we enjoyed walking around the Cinnamon Gardens area calling in at various eating establishments. The cashew curry and pittu was our favorite. Finally we ended up at Galle Face Park and the lively beach where families were eagerly eating cottu and other delights. Our guide, Neem, was very informative and caring.

      Great experience
Nim is very knowledgeable about the local cuisine. My family, including a 5 year old, took the market tour and cooking class. It was a great experience. We learned a great deal about Sri Lankan coming and even had a say in what dishes we learned. Wonderful... We highly recommend.

      Excellent Food Tour in Colombo
Excellent pre visit communication from our guide Nim who met us promptly where agreed. We spent a wonderful 5 hours with Nim, who was funny, friendly, humble and knowledgeable. We booked this on our 2nd day in Sri Lanka and it gave us a great insight into the place, the people and their culture. Nim took us on a wonderful walking tour of several proper Sri Lankan restaurants and cafes to sample food and drink of the region. We also visited a vegetable market and ended up on Galle Face Green at the pop up street stalls. We walked quite a long way but he was also happy to call on tuk tuks if you had enough of walking. I highly recommend this experience and Nim - book it, you will be very happy that you did!

Food Experience in a Great Neighbourhood
The tour guide, the activities, the place, the food, and the people - everything is great! The trip itinerary was interesting and organized. Our tour guide has in-depth knowledge and very patient in answering our questions. I’m thankful for the new food experiences.

If you are looking for a personal, authentic, and delectable experience this is the tour to book! My partner and I had a fantastic tour of the markets (complete with explanation of all new ingredients) led by our incomparable cooking coach Nim. We had the opportunity to smell and taste ingredients, sample a variety of sweets and pickles, and learn about local produce and delicacies. Following this we spent several hours in the kitchen while overlooking beautiful green treetops catching glimpses of fruitbats, birds, and a troupe of monkeys. Nim guided us through the preparation of a beautiful Sri Lankan meal (words cannot do the flavours justice) and we learned a great deal about the local culture and customs in the process. I would recommend this experience to anyone with curious tastebuds who is seeking a representative introduction to local cuisine.

I have been keen to do a cooking class is Sri Lanka, so my sister-in-law and I booked this one online. We met Nim near the fresh food markets, we had a leisurely walk around while he explained all the different varieties of fruit and vegetables. We were able to choose between chicken or fish, and a vegetable dish. We chose chicken and eggplant. After buying ingredients required we headed back to the headquarters.
When we arrived we sat and enjoyed a cool wood apple drink (something new to us!). After having a chat we then headed into the cooking area, very well set up.
Along with our chosen dishes we also made sambal and roti. We learnt a lot, quite different to the Sri Lankan curries we eat and make at home. The experience took about 5 hours all up. There is a large lounge room very close to the kitchen/ cooking area so possibly people with young children may be able to bring there children with some activities to keep them busy. Not sure, but worth asking, it would be nice for our husbands to join us in this experience next time! Our host, was very interesting and friendly, it was good to have time to chat to find out more about Sri Lanka.
I would definitely recommend. I was delighted to receive the recipes electronically after returning home. Can’t wait to cook these dishes again.

My husband and I had a really great time at the cooking class taught by Nim! First, we went to a picturesque market, where Nim told us about the different spices, vegetables and fruits used in Sri Lankan cuisine. And of course, we also got to get a taste of some of them! :) Afterwards, we headed to Nim's place — the regular venue was closed for some refurbishing. Together, we drank some woodapple juice, prepared some coconut sambol, coconut rotties, and two curries, which we chose to do at the market (jackfruit and mushroom). For desert we had some curd with honey. Sincerely, I think that the curries were among the best we ate during our long trip through Sri Lanka and I think that this is due to the good recipes and the great teacher Nim! It was a wonderful full experience not only because of the social and culinary delights but also because its curation also spent attention to the detail: we cooked with amazing woven baskets and clay pottery! :) The class was one treat for my husband's birthday and made it to something more special! Looking forward to cooking the dished when we're back home — thank you Nim!!!

During our second day in Sri Lanka, we booked the evening cooking class. The entire cooking class experience was exceptional. It was our first time visiting a local market in a foreign country. We also gained a number of tips on how to choose the best ingredients , implement & Cook fresh seafood and vegetables. Our guide Nim and team had just the right mix of humor, passion and knowledge to make this tour and entertaining, enlightening it's completely unforgettable! Loved him and this tour !

Everything was well organized and ran smoothly.
Ashee arranged for us to be collected from our cruise ship and driven to the market to meet Nim.
We wandered through the market and Nim introduced us to lots of new vegetables and fruits and spices. We got to try lots of things at the market and could decide what we wanted to cook that morning for our lunch.
The people at the market were warm and friendly, and Nim shared his knowledge at every step.

Next we took a TukTuk ride to Nims place. Away from the business of the city, with monkeys swinging in the trees, mongoos and other animals wandering around in the gorgeous surroundings outside his place.

Then it was time to get to work. Nim gave us step by step instructions and what and why we were doing things.
We cooked a jackfruit curry, an amazing fish curry, we made coconut sambal and coconut roti. All delicious!!! And washed down with a Sri Lankan beer.

When it was time to get back to our ship, Nim had a car waiting to take us back on time for sailing.

Really a wonderful day that gave us not just a taste of Sri Lankan food, but also the culture and the kindness.

Our family recently spent a wonderful 1/2 day with Nim doing the market tour and cooking school. We thoroughly enjoyed our market tour which was both fun and educational, and the cooking was a delight. We felt very welcome, and the rustic cooking school is a lovely oasis in a bustling city. Nim is a great teacher and a whole family produced a selection of delicious curries and accompaniments. It was a terrific way to spend our last day in Sri Lanka.

The goal of my trip to Sri Lanka was to enjoy Sri Lankan curry. So it was a great experience to go to the market and make curry in Nim's cooking class.
I had a lot of fun talking with the people I experienced together and being able to exchange different cultures.

‘Rustic’ is underrating the service that Nim, the culinary master, provides. He is passionate about food and through the market tour and the cooking lesson, he wants you to understand what the ingredients are, how they go together, how they are best presented and how you feel about the food you’re cooking. Oh, and it’s delicious as well!

He was also willing to take me by myself, which as a solo female traveller I really appreciated. He is trustworthy, respectful, knowledgeable and funny. Generous with his time and experience. It is a little off the beaten path, which is also good. The cooking space has ample room and a lovely ambience. I really had a fantastic experience.

Nim met us and guided us around one of the biggest markets in Colombo. It was Independent Day in Sri Lanka and he went out of his way to go to the only market that was open on this day.
He was informative and relaxed, it was like walking around the market with our friend. We felt comfortable to ask questions and Nim just knew all the stall holders. This alone was fab. What came next was better.
We went to the cooking place and Nim guided us through dishes we were interested in cooking.
    JUST BRILLIANT
We will happily do this again and we might just do this if time allows at the end of our Sri Lanka tour.
Thank you Nim, we have a great memory and done cooking skills learnt from this day

By far the best cooking class experience I’ve done. We first went to the market to experience an authentic shopping experience, was so great to learn about different fruits & vegetables and how they’re used in Sri Lankan cooking - and even better we got to decide what vegetable curries we would make later in the day.

Following that we went to the house to cook along with Nim our guide. The experience was great, really nice vibes, didn’t feel rushed, the food was delicious and very enjoyable to learn about Sri Lankan food and culture.

For the price, I would definitely recommend and will be sure to keep in touch with Nim going forward on any return trip to Sri Lanka! As I struggled to find authentic Sri Lankan food at restaurants out, this was one of the best meals of my trip.

Went for the evening class, which started around 3:30pm and ended around 9pm, so was a great way to spend a day in Colombo. I loved it!
