About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- gon_alos5000 contributionsInteresting trip to old gulagNice day trip to an old Gulag. Didn’t had much time for sightseeing in Karaganda but still got to see a bit of it which was nice. Tip: instead of booking through here, do it via their website ( astanatours) and it will be way less expensive :-)Written April 27, 2024
- backpack1240 contributionsMust visitThe burabay national park is amazing. The frozen lakes and ice cladded mountains are just stunning. So beautiful. Every location like zhumbaktas or dancing birch treeshas its own beauty . Just amazingWritten April 25, 2024
- Connector009077321800 contributionsConflicting emotionsMy tour started off great. Two young men served as my guides, and they drove me to the location. We reached the peak and enjoyed the views for quite some time. The hike was quite difficult for me, but the guides were incredibly helpful in assisting me up there. I have a soft spot for young people who do their best, so we talked a lot, and the guides were very enthusiastic to share about their culture. Overall, I enjoyed the trip, and the guys took care of me for the whole day. However, the reason for my 1/5 rating is this. I was appalled to find out how little those young men were paid, given how much I was charged for the tour. They spent their entire day with me and received only a tiny fraction of what I had paid. I ended up giving them tips because I always try to support hard-working young people. It's outrageous and left me feeling disappointed.Written April 7, 2024
- M9644SEjamess0 contributionsIncompetence and dissapointmentMy experience with Astana Tours Team was incredibly disappointing and fell far below expectations. Firstly, my guide was an inexperienced teenager who lacked knowledge about the city. Despite promising a tour of multiple landmarks, we only managed to visit three out of the many listed in the itinerary. Additionally, we drove 40 minutes to the Alzhir memorial only to find it closed, as it was a Monday. The guide then tried to seek assistance from management and the manager was unreachable, leaving us stranded and wasting time. Secondly, the high prices charged for the subpar service are unjustifiable. Paying $170 for a poorly executed city tour is unacceptable, especially considering the pay provided to guides. It's appalling to learn that guides receive a mere fraction of the hefty fees charged to customers, which likely contributes to their lack of motivation and engagement. Furthermore, the lack of transparency regarding transportation arrangements is concerning. Instead of providing dedicated vehicles, the company relies on guides to use their personal cars, further highlighting their disregard for customer satisfaction and safety. In conclusion, my experience with Astana Tours Team was marked by incompetence, unreasonably high prices, and dishonesty from management. I strongly advise against using their services and urge others to seek alternative tour operators for a more fulfilling and worthwhile experience in Astana.Written April 7, 2024
- stefanbU6463CP0 contributionsGood Full DayOur tour guide Damir was great and lunch was excellent. About the tour structure, I think there are a few things that could be left out and some other things added. For example we spent a lot of time in the national museum and I would have rather seen the Hazrat Sultan Mosque instead. But I guess it all depends what you are into. The city is not walkable at all so definitely need a driver. Also one last little recommendation is that I would have liked to have learned more about the history of Astana and Kazakhstan. Overall good though. Thanks Damir.Written March 30, 2024

- N5150KJmichaelw0 contributionsEducational and enjoyable day spent in AstanaIt was an excellent tour that covered most of the main points of interest in Astana, and was tailored to my needs. These needs included wanting to spend a lot of time at the National Museum and needing to get to the airport by 3 pm for my flight. The guide Zhanna is excellent, very knowledgeable and her English is excellent. She also has an excellent sense of humor and the tour was a lot of fun.Written May 17, 2023
- JWTMIA0 contributionsAmazing Custom Work On My Unusual RequestWhat an amazing tour company. I needed a specific, custom request of an english speaking driver to take me to various out of the way places. I'm a photographer and I had an unusual itinerary. Astana Guide Tours went out of their way to fulfill the request, finding the right driver. They really thought about what I needed and did not just simply offer some sort of regular package. Definitely call them with any request!Written September 12, 2022

- William A0 contributionsA city with remarkable architectural and sights. We really liked our guide. He was a soft-spoken, compassionate young man who was eager to share his adopted city with us. His answers to our questions were sincere and often thought-provoking. We went to a wonderful local restaurant for lunch. At the end of the day, he directed us to an enjoyable walk. Why the 3/5 rating then? He was rather inexperienced as a guide, arrived late and left early, and we spent a huge amount of time going from one sight to another in Ubers (or their Kazakh equivalent) to find the sights closed, ending up seeing only three sightsWritten September 10, 2022
- mick2pick0 contributionsDay trip to Burabay with a private guideThe trip was well organized, the travel agency was responsive, the guide was really knowledgeable and helpful. I will use Astana Guide Tours again.Written August 5, 2022
- ojc9720 contributionsCar-rental arrangements in AstanaAstana Guide Tours helped me complete the near-impossible, ie arrange a self-drive rental car in Astana for a short (5 day trip) there in July 2022. They were really helpful, responding almost immediately to a speculative email (unlike almost all of about 15 other companies that I contacted...) and really listening to what I wanted to do (which was not too simple or standard) before suggesting options. Olgerd, with whom I swapped numerous emails has brilliant English and is totally organised and Amir, the guide who met us on the day was a delight to be with as we co-ordinated with the rental company with regard to collecting the car, sorting out the final arrangements and, on the next day too via the phone when I had to change some drop-off arrangments at short notice. Everything went very smoothly and everything that they said would happend did happen. Based on what I have seen, I highly recommend these guys for any excursisions, travel arrangements etc in the Astana area.Written July 21, 2022

Our Guide Sukhrab showed us everything and told us about the history of this place. The hole team was very friendly and we can recommend this tour to everyone.Written June 22, 2022
- jrstroud880 contributionsAstana tourI really enjoyed this tour, seeing Astana and understanding its history. My guide Gera was great, spoke fluent English and was excellent at explaining many of the cultural specifics. He even found a vegetarian/vegan cafe that served traditional Kazakh food that was suitable for me being vegetarian, which was greatly appreciated. I also opted for the additional banya experience which I would recommend for a story-worthy experience for those who have never experienced such things. I had a great time!Written April 18, 2022
- jesseoc880 contributionsA great day tour!A fascinating tour into the history of the gulag in Kazakhstan. My guide, Gera, was informative and friendly. I would highly recommend this tour.Written April 8, 2022

As the city of Nur-Sultan / Astana is not very easy for an independent traveller, I decided to book this tour. It was effortless and super interesting. My guide Amandyk was very knowledgable and nice. He not only showed me the main sights but also explained the history and current affairs of Kazakhstan. Totally recommended!
