A tour you cannot miss if you’re visiting Phnom Penh!
My husband and I would strongly recommend this tour! With hotel pick up and drop off, it made the afternoon go by smoothly and allowed us to focus on what was important - paying respect to the lives lost and honouring their memory. Although it was difficult to bear witness to, it is such an important part of Cambodia’s history. We were very grateful for our tour guide Visal as he was very knowledgeable and taught us so much about Pol Pot’s cruel regime 🙏 This is a tour you cannot miss if you’re visiting Phnom Penh!

      A very moving experience
This was an excellent and informative tour about a dark part of Cambodia’s past. Visal is an excellent guide who is knowledgeable and passionate about his country’s history. We learned a lot and were glad we booked this tour which was very well organised and professionally run.

Great educating tour with a very good guide, Baboon. Cambodia has such a rich history but also with some gruesome history. I really recommend you go on this tour when in Phnom Penh

A history lesson in person that hopefully never happens again.
Very somber tour. Baboon our tour guy did a wonderful job. It was amazing to see something so horrific that happened in my lifetime.

      Sad but historical event
This was a very sad, yet historical event that occurred in the not too distant past. Our guide, Sum CHEATH, was very friendly, knowledgeable, and provided his family's personal experience with the Khmer Rouge. He also provided ample time for us to explore on our own. I recommend this tour!

      Highly recommend.
We were really impressed with our guide's knowledge and sensitivity. He was able to explain the historical context leading up to the Khmer Rouge era and the devastating torture, abuse and genocides that characterise it. We feel we have a much better understanding of this very dark period of history. Our guide was very knowledgeable, polite, friendly and efficient. Everything was well planned and ran to time. Highly recommend.

If visiting Phnom Penh…it’s a must see visit.
Such a difficult and distressing experience finding out about Cambodia’s sad history but definitely one that we feel you have to do if you visit Cambodia. Our guide Baboon was friendly and so knowledgeable and sensitive to the feelings of us and our fellow travellers. His account of his family’s experience was both shocking and poignant. We just cannot believe how such awful atrocities could have been committed against fellow men. Baboon still managed to make us smile and entertain us though and he was just the right measure of humour and respect. We would definitely recommend this tour.

      Great experience
Exploring this history was truly impactful and moving. The depth of the narrative and the personal connection offered a unique perspective. Learning about these events felt both educational and profoundly meaningful. It's important to remember and reflect upon these stories. I appreciate the opportunity to learn more about this significant history with our guide Mr. Baboon

      Must do experience
This is a must do tour if you're in Phnom Penn. The guide was excellent and shared his knowledge as well as his personal experience of the genocide. It's harrowing, but incredibly important to understand Cambodia. On a practical level, you could have organised this yourself using Tuk Tuk and paying for the audio tour at the two sites But, given you get discount on entry to the Killing Fields on this tour, and the audio tours cost extra, you probably wouldn't save money.

A very sad but informative and necessary tour to understand Cambodia's history
I knew that this tour would be a difficult glimpse into a very dark history for Cambodia's people but it was necessary for me as part of my travels through this country, to understand what they went through and how the country has and continues to recover. Mr Baboon, the tour guide, not only gave us the facts and figures associated with the mass genocide under the Khmer Rouge regime, detailing how the country came to fall under the influence of the Communist party but he also shared some personal family stories and made sure that we were all well looked after throughout the tour. I am very humbled and impressed by the Cambodian peoples strength and courage and resolve after such a dark time in their history and would encourage anyone to go on this tour. I think it's a vital part of visiting Cambodia to understand their history and my thanks and heart go out to Mr Baboon and his people and family who continue to share their stories and welcome anyone who wants to understand how far they have come.

This tour is AMAZING. Book it NOW. Don't hesitate. I am so happy that I did.

At the time when I booked the tour, this day trip only had one (very positive) review. The description (incorrectly) makes this tour sound like a food tour but this was actually a culture and location excursion tour. I trusted my gut and booked it hoping that it wasn’t a food tour, and it wasn’t. This was a very authentic local experience to visit various parts of an island via tuk tuk. It was that, and much more! Such a good value. I hope more tourists know about Silk Island in the future and go on this specific tour.

When I booked the tour, the operator Baboon messaged me to confirm pick up times and location details. When I was picked up, I met with my guide for the day named Sophy and my tuk tuk driver Sothea. Sophy provided such an informative and thrilling tour. I learned about silkworm farming and silk weaving. He also took me to see the island's many amenities, such as tribal huts, beach fronts, picnic areas etc. Sophy offered to take pictures of me everywhere we went. I didn't even ask most of the time, he just offered and the pictures turned out perfect. On top of that, Sophy and Sothea took me around via tuk tuk and let me visit multiple farms, such as ginger, cilantro, pepper, taro. Sophy is a very knowledgeable and engaging guide, and not only did I learn a lot from him, I also really enjoyed my time with him.
I think all in all Sophy and Sothea might have taken me to two islands (not sure if that's normal or if I got lucky). They drove by a variety of local villages and Sophy provided a good amount of interesting context. I had such a good time with both Sophy and Sothea that I invited them to have lunch with me. The next day Baboon followed up to hear how everything went, which was a nice finishing touch. If you are looking to get out of the city, and thinking about going to the islands and local villages.... BOOK THIS NOW 😁😁😁

If you would like to see rural scenes in Cambodia near Phnom Penh, this half-day tour is thoroughtly recommended. I spent really good quality time.
As other reviewers wrote you can see silk weavers, markets, temples, vegetable fields etc in the island. I bought a beautiful silk stole there from one of them at a low price. Especially I was so impressed when the guide Visal told me how Khmer language was taught a century ago in this country and show the statue of Chuon Nath put up in the elementary school, who wrote the Khmer dictionary.

Thank you for a very interesting and informative tour to Silk Island by tuk tuk. I am very pleased I booked this tour. Thank you to my guide, Visal and driver Chiv, both of whom were thoughtful and courteous.

My tour was confirmed the day before, I was picked up from my accommodation on time and we travelled to Silk Island. We visited the Silk Centre on the island, seeing and learning how silk material is made, from the moth laying the eggs to the finished products. There was also plenty of opportunity to ask questions.

The tour was flexible, so that as we travelled along the road, we were able to stop at different places, for example, when I wanted to see different crops being farmed to find out more about the crops and farming, such as taro and ginger. We also visited a river beach.

I was brought back to my accommodation at the end of the tour.

Visal was very informative and answered my questions. Travelling by tuk tuk meant that it was easy to see and to stop at different places as we travelled. The freshly cooked, locally grown corn was delicious.

Thank you again to Visal and Chiv. You made it a memorable tour for me.

The tour of Silk Island by tuk-tuk is beautiful and original. On site, they explain the entire process of making silk fabric to us. It's interesting. However, at the end of the visit, at the store, we were offered a $25 scarf that we all bought. Later, in Siem Reap, we found the same scarves, priced at $6. Silk island is a real scam, the same product is sold 4 times more expensive. Take the tour which is interesting but don't buy anything.

Had a fun half day riding on a new Cannondale bike to Silk Island. My guide Pisey was a wonderful guide who lives in the area, knows the history of the island and was constantly attentive to my safety. At first, I was a little nervous about a 25km ride but it was mostly over flat terrain although on the occasional rough or muddy roads. This trip takes you out of the noise and frenzy of Phnom Penh city and puts you into what seems like another world of jungle, temples, farmers, and weavers. Our Silk Island destination gave me the opportunity to watch silk being woven and to purchase items made on-site at much-reduced prices from shops in town. I highly recommend this getaway to calm yourself in a world apart. I can't say enough about young Pisey as a great guide for an enjoyable day.
