Great learning the art of street photography
Spent the day with Michael and had a great time learning about street photography - something I have never done before. Particularly as I was taken to areas you wouldn't normally see, but meant I could really see and photograph the reality of daily life in Phnom Penh. These are areas I would not have otherwise seen or have had the confidence to go to. We had a brief chat on settings to use and Michael advised a few times on what settings he was shooting with, but it was really about how to spot those moments and engage with people to be able to take their photo. Have some great shots and enjoyed my time with Michael.

      I got some great pictures!
Great experience! Michael gave me an expert tour of the Ounalom Pagoda, a local market and some very picturesque parts of Phnom Penh. The ferry boat ride is fascinating especially since it crosses where the Tonle Sap River and Mekong River meet. In Areyksat Village I could photograph different types of houses, the charming chapel and the local communities' way of life. Michael has been living in Cambodia for a long time and he provided me with very useful tips for my stay. I Highly recommend this tour.

      Really disappointing
$75 for for 3.5hrs (8am to 11.35am) - 1hr of which was passed in 2 coffee shops, one of which involved drinking coffee with no conversation, although we did go to the two sites we agreed upon by email. Unfortunately, Michael showed no enthusiasm and even less interest during the time we were together. We did have a useful conversation about the camera settings (in the first coffee shop) but he made no effort to look at anything I shot or make any suggestions about composition or what to consider when framing a photo even though I did say at the beginning that it would be good to discuss things like this as we moved around. I felt more of a burden / inconvenience than a client. He walked ahead of me most of the time and never with me - while I was looking for interesting opportunities he seemed in a rush. There were a few other things that I felt uncomfortable with but I don't have time to mention here. I got much more interesting and engaging photos walking around on my own after our session. . Overall a very expensive (even by international standards) and disappointing couple of hours.

      Excellent photography tour
This tour almost felt like a photography workshop. I am trying to learn how to use my camera in other than automatic mode and Michael gave me lots of tips on how to improve on this skill. He took us off the beaten path and we were able to experience the other side of Phnom Pehn we would otherwise not have gone our own! Highly recommended!!!

      Best day in Phnom Penh...!
First of all this tour is not only for photographers. Anyone who wants to learn about the daily life of Cambodian people and wants to get an inside view and feel of how this lovely city breathes, anyone who wants to get away from the beaten path and the industrialized tourist flows, anyone who is ready to experience the stunning and harsh contrasts the city is built on, should spend a day with Michael in Phnom Penh. Take at least your smartphone though, as you will probably make some photographs along the way, which you will cherish for a lifetime. I had the luck of having Michael all for myself for about ten hours and although I have traveled the world with a camera for most of my life, the day was an unforgettable experience. Michael knows the city, knows its people and knows a lot about photography. He will lay the perfect motives at your feet in and around the city and will take you to street photography paradise. He is sensible and professional and has a unique feel of how much guidance you need, and gives you just that. He is also great company and fun to be with. We had a long day with a lot of footwork in the dust and the tropical sun, but when we finally sat down for a cold drink at the end of the day at the riverside , I could not be happier. I really fully recharged my „visual batteries” for quite some time to come and will definitely be back for more time to explore Cambodia with Michael.

      Good for Beginners
Maybe this would have been better for beginners or for tourist who are uncomfortable in foreign countries. I thought it was very basic. I find that it is nice to have a local guide to make the most of limited time, but Michael was very expensive by Cambodian standards. He was a helpful city guide, but I photography tips were geared for beginners.

      Well worthy tour
Michael is friendly and very efficient. Took me to places I would never know they existed, even so, would not dare to visit alone. Also provide you with some information helping you to understand a local way of life. Highly recommend this tour.

      Fantastic time and learned lots
I did the Night Photo Tour on Sunday night and the Afternoon tour the next day. It was a great experience. First of all it was a one to one tour, actually a walking photo workshop. We went to a Wat (temple) with no tourist and photographed the monks and locals interacting. I got a great shot of young men playing football in front of a large statute of Buddha. Then down side streets and onto the waterfront for tripod shooting. All along Michael is checking my camera settings, checking my images and asking what story am I trying to tell. Then he gives helpful feedback and advice and suggested what to change to make my story. I got some lovely images of the Royal Palace at night that also captured the traffic and people out at night.. we then went to the Independence Monument for stunning shots, ending up at the Sky Bar roof top for city scape. We also chatted a lot and exchanged life stories which was great. Next day was also fantastic, in particular crossing the river to a poor neighbourhood that was basically a small shanty town. People and kids were so friendly. No way could I find this place myself or interact without Michael’s guidance. Michael and Rotary has previously covered medical expenses for a child needing eye surgery from the same village. Then we finished at a teaching Wat for the Golden Hour where Michael was patient to show me how to capture a sunburst with out over exposing the image. We got a Tuk Tuk back to the ferry which we shared with a monk who was on his way to Chinese lessons. Finally back on the riverfront over a cold drink we reviewed the day and talked about what it means to be a professional photographer in the digital world. Michael shared many insights on Phnom Penh too. I would strongly recommend Michael for photo tours or walking photos workshops. He also has great stories to tell.

      Superb tour
Two years ago I took the group tour and I was so impressed I took a personal tour yesterday. Michael is a great guy and was patient showing me all the myriad of functions on my complicated camera as we toured through the nooks and crannies of Phnom Penh. There is no way I would have found these fascinating markets and neighbourhoods on my own. I have been on hundreds of day tours and I have no hesitation recommending Michaels tours!!!! You won’t regret this well priced excursion

Great photography sites and tips in Phnom Penh
I did a whole day Tour with Michael and visited sites with spectacular photographic opportunities. I wouldn’t have found these sites on my own. Michael had previously developed great rapport with the locals, and 99% were very willing to allow multiple photos. This included a great spectrum of people including well-worn characterful faces and playful children in exotic surroundings. We also visited sites where there were beautiful, ornate buildings, monks, school children etc. I consider myself an enthusiastic amateur at photography. Michael taught me about a number of features on my camera and has given me the confidence to experiment further. He provided feedback on my shots that was very helpful. As I had Michael all to myself (another lady was a late cancellation), we were able to cater to my whims. I was well prepared for a day outside in the heat and suggest a long sleeved cotton shirt, long cotton pants and a scrunchable hat to keep off the sun, sensible walking shoes for walking in mud, going up steep stairs etc, minimal gear to carry so your hands are free for your camera, and somewhere to carry a water bottle. It was a big day for an old-ish lady. If I had time, I would do a morning one day, and an afternoon the next. Don’t be shy. Good communication with Michael and the people you encounter will help you and him make the most of your day.

5 days of photography in Cambodia
I had the pleasure to spend 5 days with Michael on an extended photo tour in Phnom Penh and in the country side going the unbeaten path. The Phnom Penh tour took us to amazing markets and areas where "barang's" normally never come. We then went to Siem Reap where Michael guided through the Angkor Wat temples with a sunrise and a sunset. After this we went to the Thai border and photographed a temple right on the border (Priem Vihear). This was amazing and gave some amazing shots. After this we went to Anlong Veng, the last hiding place for Pol pot and had an amazing trip into the jungle to see is last hiding place. The trip was amazing and Michael is a really tour-leader. From a photography point, Michael is really good at meeting people and teach how to take shots that are not just souveniers but actually tell a story involving the people we visit. They are shots that matter. He is good at seeing your level and work from that, if you either are very beginner or seasoned pro. He has many many good stories about Cambodia as he lives here himself and it also provides a unique insight to the culture, the people here and how to get around. I really appreciated the trip I had with Michael. He is very flexible; one day I got sick and the we moved the remainder of the day to the day after - something he did'nt had to do. It is obvious that Michael is a professional photographer who knows what he is talking about and I am sure that most photographers, beginner or pro, can learn a thing or two from him. Besides this, he is also good company and very responsible both for his customers and the culture that we are photographing.

      Fantastic tour!
My daughter and I did a half day tour with MK and loved every second of it. We met at the FCC hotel where he sat down with my daughter (a novice with an entry level camera) and explained what all the settings do and was very patient with her. He is a very friendly man and we felt very comfortable and relaxed with him immediately. He then took us on a walking tour of the back alleys of Phnom Penh that you’d never know were there to see how the locals live. The Khmer are so beautiful and enjoyed us taking their photos and we got some fantastic shots. MK will go at your pace, stop for a water and rest if needed and is a very relaxed man. We got some of our favourite photos of our holiday. Highly recommend!

A Grate Guided photo tour in "Unseen" Phnom Penh
Michael Klinkhamer is a great photographer. He loves walking along in Phnom Penh streets with the camera. While you are with him, he passes his knowledge and experience to you with a great flow. I'm a beginner at photography. I took the full day tour. This tour with Michael gave me a wealth of knowledge and a great experience in Phnom Penh street photography.

Booked a Full-Day Private Photography Tour in Phnom Penh with professional photographer, Michael Klinkhamer, in late January.

We met at a local coffee shop in the River District and briefly went over the locations we would visit and got started on our walk. Michael's familiarity with both photography and by living in Phnom Penh for more than ten years made this a wonderful and refreshing experience. We visited places that most visitors would never know about. I was able to capture some great images.

What really made this tour stand out is Michael's relationship with the people in the communities and villages we visited. He was good at making the photo subjects excited to see him and it made for pictures with many genuine smiles.

If you want to see a different cultural side of this city and get some photography tips along the way, this is the tour to join!

I highly recommend this all day photo tour with Michael Klinkhamer! It's worth the price.
