About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- WillDXB0 contributionsWine Tour of ShemakhiVisiting Baku for the first time mainly for the F1. Little did I realize that Azerbaijan has its own wine regions! So my wife and I arranged a nice Saturday trip with Nasimi Wine Tours. Was perfectly organized from the hotel pickup to the actual tour and wine tasting. Highly recommended and will use again!Written May 13, 2023
- E3032RFjeffh0 contributionsThe best wine tour guide! We had an excellent day with Nasimi. He’s a really nice guy, very accommodating, and knowledgeable about wine. The drive through the countryside was beautiful. We tasted a lot of good wines, had a delicious dinner, and bought some bottles to take home with us. This tour was the highlight of our time in Azerbaijan.Written May 1, 2023
- Fanelsy0 contributionsGreat experienceA beautiful surrounding around the world. I'm amaze with every view. Come also and explore more in traveling.Written March 26, 2023
- Jessica L0 contributionsPerfect Daytrip Outside the City! What a fantastic day! It started with a great ride in a clean, comfortable van out of the city with excellent conversation and information from Nasimi. We first stopped by the vineyard, where not only did we walk through the vineyards and try the different grapes, but we also watched harvest picking and met some of the locals working. From there, we went to the plant, where we were able to try all the wines and spirits, even at different stages of fermentation. The wines were delicious, with many unexpected varieties (not just pomegranate), and the spirits were also super tasty. All of this, followed by a wonderful lunch at an overlook before a much-need nap on the way home :) I have travelled quite a bit and have done many wine tours, and this was honestly one of my favorites. The hospitality can't be beat, and there really is so much flexibility to make the tour what you want. We will absolutely arrange more trips of other vineyards in the near future. FYI for COVID - masks were worn and hand sanitizer was always available, as well as bathrooms at each stop to wash your hands.Written September 20, 2020
- Guide8262470 contributionsGreat wine tasting experience in BakuWe have an excellent evening with Nasimi in Baku during our recent trip to Azerbaijan to watch a Wales football match. Nasimi was welcoming and very flexible, and he gave us a fun and informative tour of three local wine bars. The wine was excellent and was accompanied by some delicious snacks. We even returned to one of the wine bars on a separate evening for some more great wine at reasonable prices. If you are a group or family of adults visiting Baku and looking for a refined experience in the company of a local person, then Nasimi's tours are an excellent choice.Written February 23, 2020
- DrTiffo0 contributionsTerrific experience, would definitely book more! What a great afternoon we had... Lots of information provided in a relaxed and fun way. We felt like we were hanging out with our friends, not on a "tour." Entirely enjoyable, I recommend Nasimi completely.Written January 29, 2020
- ZaffarH40 contributionsExceptional Wine TourMy wife and I did the organic wine tour to the Shamaki Winery. We were lucky enough to enjoy a day out with Nasimi, his wife and gorgeous little daughter. During the trip there, in a comfortable minivan, he provided us with a lot of information on wine making in Azerbaijan. You'll get most of the nuts and bolts of the wine type and style from other reviews on this page so I won't get into it here. Suffice to say that we were given an interesting tour of the Shamaki facility, followed by a tasting in their a wonderful tasting room - among the best I've experienced. Coming from South Africa, I've had a decent amount of experience with this and thoroughly enjoyed it. After the wine tasting we enjoyed a delicious meal in the restaurant and more wine of course. Nasimi ordered for us, I can't recall the names of the dishes, but they were all delicious. After the meal we relaxed on the patio with some tea. My wife and I travel extensively and always enjoy exploring local wine culture. A wine tour with Nasimi is a must do if you are in Azerbaijan. He was also kind enough to keep in contact with me and gave us recommendations on wine bars to visit in Baku and local wines to try. I wish Nasimi all the best with his endeavours!Written January 24, 2020
- Alphons L0 contributionsPleasant and interesting wine tourThis tour brought us to Meysari village, 2 hours driving from Baku with a comfortable mini bus, a good driver and Nasimi as guide. He is a very nice guy, speaking perfectly English, giving all kinds of information about the country, the people and answering all of our questions. We were lucky to arrive at the time of harvesting on this (rather young) winery, the grapes were pressed into large tanks, giving a nice smell, a very interesting experience! After that we visited the vineyard and tasted some grapes, mostly from French origin. Next was the winetasting with very interesting wines in a beautiful wine cellar and we concluded with a nice qutab lunch (local pancakes). The way back to Baku was perfect for a little wine nap. We highly recommand this tour and Nasimi as the perfect guide!Written October 9, 2019
- meaghan_ca0 contributionsThe Perfect Wine Tour in BakuIf you’re looking for a wine tour within an hour of Baku, Nasimi’s Wine Tour Baku is the one for you. Nasimi built the perfect itinerary and thought of everything. We were a group of 6. He and a driver picked us up promptly and we were off to Fireland winery. Throughout it all, Nasimi was the perfect host. Friendly, incredibly knowledgeable, and perfect English. We arrived around 11 am and started with some tea and conversation. Then we toured the vineyards, sampling the delicious grapes that make the wine. It was a beautiful setting and great to learn a bit about the history of the vineyard and winemaking in Azerbaijan. Next we watched as the workers brought in large containers of grapes for processing. I’d never seen this in other wineries in the US before. It was interesting to watch the process. Then it was off to see how wine is made in the traditional clay pots, similar to Georgian winemaking. We even got to smash some of the grapes. All the while we got to sample dozens of wines, starting with white building up to red. Afterwards we made our way inside to taste wine from the barrel. It was so cool to see the barrels in the wine cellar. Finally we concluded our tour with more tastings from already bottled wine paired with cheese, meat, olives, fruit, and bread. Nasimi even provided a cake for a friend whose birthday we were celebrating. It was the perfect trip length (around 5-6 hours, including driving) and the perfect itinerary for a short excursion to sample delicious wine. I look forward to drinking more of the wine that I brought home with me. Highly recommend this tour with Nasimi!Written October 4, 2019
- myriamsotelof0 contributionsAmazing wine tour!!!Amazing experience guided by Nasimi! We learned not only about wine culture but also about Azerbaijan. We did the wine tasting and everything was lovely!!! After that Nasimi arrange food and that was fantastic!!!Written August 20, 2019
- CK_Hernandez0 contributionsOrganic Wine Tour ShamakhiExcellent personalized tour by Nasimi, specially adapted to our interests and needs. We highly appreciate his dedication. The tasting room has a charming environment for wine tasting, we loved the pairing set up with local cheeses. The wines from Shirvan are of very good quality. The explanation of the staff showed us the great hospitality of Azerbaijani people. The delicious lunch at Abqora restaurant allowed us to learn more about local cuisine. Totally recommended tour if you want to know about Azerbaijan, it’s food, landscape, wine and history and of course an amazing experience guided by Nasimi.Written August 15, 2019
- MDinPit0 contributionsMust do thing in Baku - Nasimi’s wine tourSpent a fantastic day with Nasimi in Savalan vineyard. This is something you must do when you are in Baku, ensure one day is reserved. We picked up from our hotel on time and headed towards to Cubala district. Nasimi had panned everything so well, we enjoyed the comfortable ride while looking at beautiful view around. Of course stopped in few places to take photos and treated us with a traditional tea and sweets on the way by the famous lake near cubala. After couple of hours we reached Savalan winery with a warm welcome from the head sommelier and team. We weren’t lucky as fruits weren’t ripe enough but glad to see how they were treated and seen beautiful vineyard. Spend few minutes taking photos, tried couple of grapes while operation team explain about the vineyard. And it’s a beautiful place to be at! We then entered the factory and gone through each process how this amazing art of wine come to a bottle. Best part started with the head sommelier where we offered to try ample amount of wines. Gone through each wine deeply with tasting notes and also give a sheet for us to rate different wines that we tasted. Obviously you also can buy your favorite wines from there and you pay a very little amount. Overall, it was great experience and I must say this is something you must do when you are in Baku. Let Nasimi to organize everything you all need is to sit back and enjoy! Thank you for this amazing time and definitely recommending this to anyone who want to explore out side of Baku as well as those who wants to know at of wine making.Written August 6, 2019
- traveltoeat_drink0 contributionsRemarkable tour by Nasimi! We opted for the organic wine tour in Shamakhi through Nasimi Wine Tours and it was truly a pleasant trip! Nasimi personally greeted us at the hotel lobby with a posh and comfy ride 10 minutes before the pickup time to grant our personal request. The winery was 2 hours drive from Baku and was very calm at the time of our visit. Grape harvest and full factory operations will most likely happen between August til October. Afrooza, from the Shirvan Winery team showed us the vineyards, wine factory and explained the wine-making process alongside Nasimi. We were guided to the beautiful wine tasting hall with variety of wines and snacks. Make sure you'll buy at least a bottle of their wine as you can't easily find them in the city. Nasimi's passion emanates through his articulate knowledge of wines, history and gastronomy that will surely stimulate your brain cells and taste buds. We left the winery with a happy tummy, enriched minds and delighted souls. My traveling party works in the Tourism industry making us very particular with tour operations. Nasimi's skills and hospitality is beyond what we expected. Given a chance to go back, we’d definitely go with Nasimi not only for wine tours but also for other tour options on other parts of Azerbaijan!Written July 19, 2019

I have really enjoyed the tour with all its details. The facility, the team who hosted us and the tasting.

All the stops we had on our way and the food/tea were amazing.

Nasimi took us on a wonderful tour of the Savalan Winery in Azerbaijan. We were very impressed not only with his wine knowledgeable but also the sophistication of the Savalan winery- a relatively new facility. Because Savalan worked with Italian winemakers to develop their wine, we were very familiar with their varietal wines. They set up a wonderful private tasting in their beautiful tasting room and allowed us to taste a large variety of wines, We purchased two bottles, one a grappa, that we found to be the smoothest grappa we had ever tasted. We are from California, so that says a lot. On the way, we stopped at a lovely lake and were serenaded by an ude player and tasted some delicious paklava. We also stopped for a deliciuos late lunch at a beautiful outdoor restaurant by a river. We highly recommend Nasimi!

I can’t speak highly enough of Nasimi’s wine tour. It really was the best thing we did in Azerbaijan. Nasimi is a great guy with perfect English who explained everything about everything, not just wine. We thoroughly pestered him with questions about all the interesting things we saw along the way to the vineyard.
It was a very long day out - three and a half hours each way - but it was really worth it, as we saw so much beautiful scenery along the way, including a change from desert to mountains and valleys with lush greenery. We stopped for tea at a lake, then had lots of nibbly bits at the winery, along with plenty of wines. On the way back, we had a delicious lunch of traditional Azeri food then later, Nasimi even stopped for corn on the cob at a roadside stall, when we expressed an interest in it.
It was a thoroughly excellent tour and if I ever go back to Azerbaijan (which I am hoping to), I will certainly use Nasimi again.
As a final note, the wines we bought at the winery were absolutely delicious. All in all, a fabulous day out.

An excellent well organised tour by Nasimi that introduced my family to a whole array of delicious local wines and food. If I could rate him 7 out of 5 I would definitely give it. A recommended tour operator to plan a wine tour that explores unique wines and cuisines of Azerbaijan.

I notice that everyone else who has reviewed Nasimi’s Wine Tours have given the tour a five star rating, and no wonder! He is obviously consistently providing the highest level of service, and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to learn more about Azerbaijan and their efforts to re-establish vineyards in the oldest wine producing region in the world.
Nasimi is passionate about Azerbaijan - its country, its culture and its wine, and he is keen to show this off to as many people as possible. He is keen to make this company and these tours a success, and I would urge you to support him in this mission. He is very good at his job and has a fantastic country to show off.
We were driven up to Qabala in a very comfortable Mercedes, and it is a lovely drive - passing beautiful barren landscapes before climbing to the edges of the Caucasian Mountains - covered in snow in late April. On the way, Nasimi filled us in on a brief history of Azerbaijan, and answered all our endless questions.
We stopped along the way to try some dried sour fruit disks - memories of Nasimi’s childhood - and some Azeri tea cooked on a traditional wood fired urn.
Nohurgol Lake is quite a touristy spot but still a beautiful lake with the surrounding mountains - and the tea and baklava provided were excellent, and provided sustenance for the remainder of the journey.
We arrived at the Savalan Vineyard in good time, and were shown round by the manager and an interpreter. It is a very impressive operation, with significant Italian investment, and clearly a profound passion for wine craft. The factory and vineyards were quiet at that time of year, but it was still interesting to see, and the small on site museum was well presented and interesting.
The wine tasting itself was fun, and really well presented and informative. There was plenty of wines to taste, as well as Grappas and Brandies. They have produced an impressive array of different wines in a short space of time, and are clearly still growing and developing. They are certainly a match for European and New World wines, and hopefully it will not be long before they gain acceptance in ‘the West’.
After the tasting, we stopped off in another quite touristy resort (I am not sure there are any other alternatives!) in Qabala, for a delicious and authentic Azeri lunch. The food was really excellent and tasty, and the service good.
After that, time for the long drive back to Baku, where Nasimi was happy to organise for us to be transferred straight to the airport in time to catch our flight home. It was a fantastic day out, and we were so glad to have the privilege and opportunity to see a whole lot more of Azerbaijan other than Baku (which was amazing in itself!).
A final word for Nasimi’s communications which were professional, helpful and informative throughout. We ended up using Nasimi as our own ad hoc travel agent for advice on food, restaurants and places to go - even though these were nothing to do with his tours. He just wanted us to enjoy and embrace his wonderful country - and we did! Thank you.

We have visited the Savalan Winery in late March and the factory was in the audit process. Despite this fact, Guide Manager Gafur was very generous and organized the visit of vineyards and factory premises. He was telling the story of the company and patiently answering all of our questions. In the end, he organized the wine tasting ceremony, which was very interesting. Gafur shared his knowledge about the tasting practices and how to use the different sorts of wines.

My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed the Qabala wine tour. It was a private tour, so we felt valued as guests and really learnt a lot! Nasimi was a fantastic guide - knowledgeable and personable, it was like being on a day trip with a friend. The Savalan Winery was brilliant and every wine we tried was absolutely divine - we ended up taking several bottles home with us! If you like wine and are visiting Baku, I strongly recommend booking this tour! :)

We had a fantastic day on this wine tour. It was fascinating to see how the countryside varied after leaving Baku. Our transport was very comfortable and our guide was delightful. She was knowledgeable, informative and taught us alot about the country. The APSI winery producing Savalan wines was very interesting, in a wonderful location. The tasting we had was brilliant and the wines were of consistent high quality, we bought some and wished we could have fitted more in our luggage.
Overall a most memorable day

The wine tour is advertised starting at $70. But when booking the price jumps to $130... is there a specific reason is it because of “high season”?

Hi!
My name is Sheila and I am organizing a trip for 27 girls and we arrive in Baku on Friday May 17. Is it possible for us to partake in a 2/3 hour wine tour mid afternoon?
Written May 6, 2019
Hi Sheila,
The trip I did took all day as it took nearly 4 hours to get to the winery.
However I'm sure if you contacted Yasimi he could find something for you to do locally in Baku - for example his local wine tasting trip.
The vineyards are all a long way from Baku so not feasible to visit in your timespan
