I enjoyed the countryside tour very much. I did it as a solo traveler. My tour guide was Ngọc. She was the perfect host and a knowledgeable guide. She has a great sense of humour and a welcoming smile that puts you at easy and makes you feel like a friend.
I think the tour provides a valuable insight into village life in Vietnam. I liked the quieter pace of this tour after doing the full day tour of the citadel and pagodas.
It started raining prior to the tour. I did it by motorbike but Ngọc came prepared with a rain coat for me. She is an excellent driver and I felt safe as we travelled out to the countryside.
It was cold, wet and drizzling in the morning so Ngọc was quick to adjust the tour so that we started with the covered bridge (as good as Hoi An) and the inside tour at the museum while it rained. By the time we had finished in the museum, the rain had stopped. We visited the local village market. Ngọc is a guide for the food tour so she was able to talk about the local plants on sale and their uses. She tied in the wedding ceremony information from the museum with the betel fruit I saw in the market. It was nice to learn about traditions in Vietnam.
At the local farmhouse, we were treated to a warm cup of tea and cookies. We sat and talked with the owner about family life and I met her daughter and husband. I was the owner's first tour of the new year, so she told me that she is hoping that my tour would bring much luck this year. It was a nice experience. Ngọc did an excellent job of explaining farm life and gave me lots of information about the plants and their uses in cooking. The pavilion that the family looks after on their property had an interesting history surrounding it. Again it is about Vietnamese traditions.
We visited the communal house and the tour ended with the explanation and pictures of the secret tunnel.
Countryside tour is different but fun. It is tour that I am glad to have done and would recommend to anyone who wants to learn more about Vietnam.

My girlfriend and I recently did the Countryside tour with Beebee Travel and really enjoyed the experience. We decide to go by Motorbike and we were picked up at our hotel at 8.30am.
Without the knowledge of the local guides we would have had an opportunity to see this side of Hue, which included secret passages, the local town hall and farming museum. A real highlight was the time spent meeting local people and enjoying a coffee while listening to some traditional Vietnamese signing, an experimence in itself. The best was saved till last when we visited an organic farm for a cooking demonstration.
Perhaps the only downside is the price was a little expensive for what is was at $40 per person. I would recommend for a really pleasant morning as the tour finishes by lunch time.
