Behind the laneways, cooking and shopping with locals. Wonderful people, wonderful tour!
Cain, Rick and Ang picked us up from our accomodation by motor scooter and we took to the streets of the city before we had time to feel apprehensive. Starting with a cold coffee made in the wet market by one of the earliest street stalls (1940's and still going) we walked through the crowded laneways and picked up some ingredients for our lunch. Back on the mopeds and off to Miss Hoa's. Tucked away in the less chaotic side streets of the district 4, Miss Hoa and her family reside together in the family home that doubles as a corner street eatery. In a tight corner she runs 2 gas burners for her wok cookery. Upon arrival our ingredients were mostly prepped and ready to go, she gave a demo with us helping along- using her own stirring rod made by her! Our lunch was delicious, pork mince in omlette, sour soup with tammarind, chicken and garlic, snake head fish flavoured with lemon grass and fried and fresh greens in garlic- all so fresh and tangy. These young local lads, and Cain the main guide particularly, are charming and helpful in every way. Having studied tourism, Cain was able to talk in depth about everything from ancient history and geography, communism, the war, culture and local religions, he was very well read. We thoroughly enjoyed our day out and would never have gone behind the scenes without the guides and this tour to

Qualitative local experience, highly recommend it
I took two classes with Ms Tu and loved it ! David, his nephew, was an amazing guide who taught me a lot about Vietnamese daily life, culture and cuisine and Ms Tu is a lovely lady and very skilled cook. I had a lot of fun spending time with them both in their family home. The food we prepared was of course delicious. A variety of every-day life dishes which you would not usually find in restaurants. Would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to step out of the traditional tourist map. Many thanks to Kevin from Saigon Wow Tours for managing the whole thing.

    Exceptional experience!
I was solo in HCMC for a long layover and this tour was an exceptional way to get an introduction to the city! Peter met me near the food tour start and took me to some amazing spots offering delicious tastes of Vietnam! He asked about any allergies and my preferences, goals in the tour, and comfort throughout the experience. In addition to the specific food descriptions, Peter tied in the history of Vietnam to the differences in cooking styles and flavors. He talked about his experience growing up and his family's cooking style in regard to our dishes. The food was amazing: savory pancakes, fried dumplings, local vegetables, authentic pho, spicy bahn mi, amazing coffee and lychee ice creams, sugar cane and calamansi drink, everything was so delicious and well balanced. Peter was friendly and really helped me understand and appreciate the food styles as well as introduced me to the history of some of the city. Thank you again Peter for a great tour! I can't wait to come back and explore more!

    Great authentic experience
It was a great experience to be invited into a local household for cooking lessons in an original vietnamese kitchen. Great to buy the ingredients on the local market. The guides know all the ins and outs of the neigbourhood which only adds to the authenticity of the experience!! We had a great day.

    Authentic Experience!
Wonderful Time! We had a lovely time cooking with Ms. Hoa! From the time we booked, there was wonderful communication. When we were picked up, the fellows were great conversationalists…telling us all about the areas of Ho Chi Minh City and the differences between them. Off to Chinatown and the market! What an experience that was…smells, sights and sounds. Then to Ms. Hoa’s for class. Very authentic menu, in a very traditional kitchen. It was an amazing experience!

True Local Vietnamese Cooking - Do it!
Kevin and crew were exceptional in their planning, humor, English language skills and willingness to share their culture and traditions of 3 generations. We shopped at the wet and dry street market for the cooking ingredients. The 4 of us were prompted to request in Vietnamese the different quantities and goods to buy. Great immersion into the local market and people. Cooking, slicing and dicing with Ms Hoa and aunties was fun and I will bring home techniques to try in my kitchen. We feel honored that they opened their home and life to us. This is a true cultural experience. Don’t pass it up!

    Great authentic experience
This was a great experience that my partner and I really enjoyed. It was an awesome way of getting to eat local food and experience a day in the life of a local in Ho Chi Minh City. We learnt the authentic cooking techniques that the family have been using for generations. The food was outstanding and the guides Hannah and Kevin were fantastic! All in all great experience!

The real authentic taste of Vietnam cooking class!
This was such a special and memorable tour for me! I was looking for an authentic cooking class where I could taste and understand the real flavours of Vietnam - this was it! My tour guide and host Kevin was so accommodating and knowledgeable from when I first booked to when I arrived - top notch customer service. He was a great driver and opened my eyes to the authentic Vietnamese taste by inviting me into the home of Ms Hao and her family. Definitely worth the trip! I'd do it again 😊

    We Love Kevin!
Wow! A MUST do in Saigon. Without Kevin's guidance, enthusiasm, and knowledge, our Saigon experience would have been a shell of what it was with Kevin at the wheel. Kevin handles all the details with transportation, ordering and paying for food, and making sure every stop will leave you in anticipation of what could top this! I was in Saigon 3 years ago and loved my tour with Kevin; Fast forward to April 2022, my time with Kevin was as memorable as anything I have done in Vietnam. Don't miss this chance for authentic food with a fantastic tour guide, local, and friend. Thanks, Kevin! On behalf of my group of 5, we love Kevin!

Wonderful way to see the city!
We absolutely loved our tour with Kevin! He was an excellent guide -very friendly, and knowledgeable! Our time in Ho Chi Mihn City was limited, so this was the perfect way to spend our evening there! We got to see areas we would likely not have seen on our own as it was very much off the beaten path for a tourist. Kevin did a great job at guiding us and explaining the different dishes, the language, and history of the city. And the food was some of the best we had in Vietnam! I highly recommend this tour - you will not be disappointed!

    Fun and Unique Chinatown Tour
Experiencing and learning about the Cholon Neighborhood, especially the Binh Tay market, the fabric market, and one the oldest Buddhist temples in Chinatown with Kim was one of the highlights of our visit to Saigon! Kim is a fun and super knowledgeable guide since this is his home neighborhood. He was very responsive to our requests and took us to experience and taste things we never would have found on our own.

    An educational tour in Saigon
I am glad I did the Saigon walking tour with Kevin, having a local who is wiling to share his perspective of Saigon was valuable education for me; we walked through significant landmarks of the city together and Kevin personalized his tour to give me the very best experience possible. From my interactions with Kevin in one morning, I could feel his passion toward introducing his city to international visitors, there is nothing like getting to know a place through a local's perspective and Kevin did well as the ambassador of Vietnam!

Time and money well spent for a great tour and unique guide!
I have been to HCM before about 15 years ago but decided to refresh myself with this tour. I am so glad I did especially with Anh Thu. She was insightful and so accomodating. She was so helpful with helping me taking photos. I love that we got to share an in-depth conversation about current Vietnam culture and exchanging stories about ourselves. As the time passed by I had wish we the tour was even longer. I highly recommend Anh Thu and give this tour a try when you are visiting HCM city.

Awesome tour to the hidden gems
This tour was awesome!! Riding through the little laneways on the back of a scooter is the best way to see the city. I got to see some very important historical sites, had some delicious Vietnamese coffee and visited the Temple of Ten Thousand Buddhas, among other things. My guide was a lovely fellow and he talked with much enthusiasm and clarity. I highly recommend this tour.

I had an excellent guide. I would highly recommend him but i would not recommend this tour. It’s wildly overpriced for what it is.
While there are six stops on the tour, only one requires an entry fee and I believe it’s $2 USD. All other sites are free to access and super close to each other so you’ll be able to navigate easily.
Also, our stop At the war museum (only paid site) was limited to 1hour. I (and others in my group) could have used more time given the amount of info and the number of people (it was a bit crowded). Also, that the palace, we stood outside the gates and didn’t go in.
For the price of $27USD (as of 10/2022) I would have been happier running through the itinerary on my own time.

Dear Miranda, let me express my deeply sorry for not providing you a good service as you expected. In explaining about the tour, please see the reasons below: 1/ At the beginning, I was purposely creating a tour not just take you guys from this place to that place, but giving a local friend who can show you about the lifestyle and culture of the city and its story from past to present. I believe it is a scam if you pay the money for just a simple walking tour. 2/ The palace shows you the story that you just read inside the museum. This is the reason why we don't recommend you to visit. However, I am sure that the tour guide had told you guys, if our guests also want to visit, we can take you guys back to it when the tour ends. If he didn't tell you guys, it is his and our fault for not providing correct information. 3/ The limit time 1 hour in the museum is not what we set up for the tour. One hour is a recommended visiting time in the museum, in some cases, guests can spend up to 1.5 or 2 hour long. Again, if the tour guide hadn't told you guys about this, please accept my apology for this mistake. Making you unhappy about the service is not what we aim for at the beginning. We will take your review as one of our biggest experience in improving for a better product in the future. Thank you so much and I wish everything best for you!

Make sure to book your tour early morning or late afternoon. The sweltering heat on an April afternoon can dampen the whole experience. It was an informative tour where the tour guide will generously share stories that or may not be part of the official records. The War Remnants Museum is specifically poignant as it tells the uncomfortable side of the war.

The French/Chinese influence is very much felt around the city, from the architecture, food, words, and persuasions.

The post office is interesting but very tourist-y. Spend some time admiring the local handicrafts and send a postcard to your loved ones, anywhere in the world.

End the trip with a short walk of the book street and see locally published books.

Overall, it was okay. I appreciate the stories and the personal attention provided by the team even before the actual tour. They readily answer your questions and will keep in touch as the trip nears. Best if tour guides can suggest proper photo spots and the best ways to take photos in this often-photographed location.

Thank you Franicks for your honest share about the experience and its weather condition during this hot season in Ho Chi Minh city! We understand how uncomfortable for you and other tourists walking under the hot and humid sunlight during this time. However, our team will try our best to give you all the most pleasant experience walking and talking around our beautiful city. Thank you and we wish you everything best! Cheers ^^

Kevin was really informative and the tour was really well put together. We got such an insight into the history of Saigon and the Vietnam war's effect on the city and its residents. Kevin also helped us get to grips with local culture, social policies, language and even the best way to cross roads. He was great fun to chat to, and not overbearing (he gave us time to work our own way around the War Remnants Museum and other locations so that we could soak everything in). He gave us an insight that we definitely would've missed without him. It was also just great to chat to him and get to know him during the afternoon. I would absolutely reccomend this tour to anyone looking to learn more about the history of the city and it's people, and fall in love with Saigon and I would give this tour more than 5 stars if I could! Thank you for a great tour, Kevin - we'll have very fond memories of the afternoon when we go back to England!

I highly recommend the walking tour with Kevin. Upon meeting Kevin for our tour, he discussed the itinerary and informed us that he can take all of the pictures on his phone which he will text to us at the tour conclusion. Kevin had a taxi ready to take us to our first tour stop. We walked to the next tour locations after the first tour stop. Kevin was flexible regarding the time we spent at each location. He was accommodating in taking any and all pictures when requested. Kevin possessed a deep understanding of the tour stops. His descriptions of the events made them come to life for me.

Kevin was attentive to our needs by providing water, shaded areas for viewing/discussions, and perfectly timed resting spots doing the walking tour. I appreciated all of the extra information Kevin provided, such as; how to cross the busy streets, places to visit, and common phases to know in the local language.

Kevin and the tour are highly recommendable. I encourage all visiting Ho Chi Minh City to complete this tour with Kevin! I plan on contacting Kevin when I visit Ho Chi Minh City in the future with my husband! Kevin is not only a great tour guide but a genuine and friendly person.

Had an absolutely fantastic time with Dickens! We started out on his bike for a short journey to the War museum where I entered and had a look for about an hour. We then met up again after my time at the museum and walked around the city center and Dickens let me know about the history of Vietnam. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about history. The tour guide’s english is very good and he is friendly and approachable. He also gave me suggestions about what to do after the tour ended. Keep up the excellent work!

Had a lovely day with Kevin (our guide) and a couple from Singapore. We met at the opera house where we were picked up by car taxi to the war museum. After the emotional museum tour, Kevin showed us some pictures iconic to the war, not shown at the museum. I was blown away by the Vietnamese people's ability to forgive... During my stay in Vietnam I also learned they are very caring and welcoming people.
We talked along the tour about Vietnam and the Vietnamese people, getting more insights about the history and culture.
We visited the Notre Dame cathedral (the outside of it as it's being renovated), the palace of independence, the lovely postal office and the peaceful library street where we continued our conversations over a delicious Vietnamese coffee. Kevin also recommended us some places where we can eat good food.
For me it was a lovely experience, thanks Kevin :)

Dickies was a really friendly tour guide who showed us around the main sight seeing sights. He provided some really interesting information on the sights and the architectural history. He is also very knowledgeable on Vietnam’s history and even shared a story about his Grandpa. We felt very safe walking the streets and would recommend him to anyone for this tour!

Our guide was Shane, was fantastic and took us on an informative tour of some of the main sites in district 1, plus took us by cab to district 3 where we visited the oldest coffee shop in vietnam, plus got to go in the back of the shop and see how it was made which was pretty cool to see. Shane was very kind, genuine, and more than happy to recommend us his favourite restaurants/bars in HCMC. We enjoyed it more than the 'free tours' we've taken so far and would definitely do it again!
