Cain, Rick and Ang picked us up from our accomodation by motor scooter and we took to the streets of the city before we had time to feel apprehensive. Starting with a cold coffee made in the wet market by one of the earliest street stalls (1940's and still going) we walked through the crowded laneways and picked up some ingredients for our lunch. Back on the mopeds and off to Miss Hoa's. Tucked away in the less chaotic side streets of the district 4, Miss Hoa and her family reside together in the family home that doubles as a corner street eatery. In a tight corner she runs 2 gas burners for her wok cookery. Upon arrival our ingredients were mostly prepped and ready to go, she gave a demo with us helping along- using her own stirring rod made by her! Our lunch was delicious, pork mince in omlette, sour soup with tammarind, chicken and garlic, snake head fish flavoured with lemon grass and fried and fresh greens in garlic- all so fresh and tangy. These young local lads, and Cain the main guide particularly, are charming and helpful in every way. Having studied tourism, Cain was able to talk in depth about everything from ancient history and geography, communism, the war, culture and local religions, he was very well read. I took two classes with Ms Tu and loved it ! David, his nephew, was an amazing guide who taught me a lot about Vietnamese daily life, culture and cuisine and Ms Tu is a lovely lady and very skilled cook. I had a lot of fun spending time with them both in their family home. The food we prepared was of course delicious. A variety of every-day life dishes which you would not usually find in restaurants. I was solo in HCMC for a long layover and this tour was an exceptional way to get an introduction to the city! Peter met me near the food tour start and took me to some amazing spots offering delicious tastes of Vietnam! He asked about any allergies and my preferences, goals in the tour, and comfort throughout the experience. In addition to the specific food descriptions, Peter tied in the history of Vietnam to the differences in cooking styles and flavors. He talked about his experience growing up and his family's cooking style in regard to our dishes. The food was amazing: savory pancakes, fried dumplings, local vegetables, authentic pho, spicy bahn mi, amazing coffee and lychee ice creams, sugar cane and calamansi drink, everything was so delicious and well balanced. Peter was friendly and really helped me understand and appreciate the food styles as well as introduced me to the history of some of the city. Thank you again Peter for a great tour! It was a great experience to be invited into a local household for cooking lessons in an original vietnamese kitchen. Great to buy the ingredients on the local market. The guides know all the ins and outs of the neigbourhood which only adds to the authenticity of the experience!! We had a great day.

Wonderful Time! We had a lovely time cooking with Ms. Hoa! From the time we booked, there was wonderful communication. When we were picked up, the fellows were great conversationalists…telling us all about the areas of Ho Chi Minh City and the differences between them. Off to Chinatown and the market! What an experience that was…smells, sights and sounds. Then to Ms. Hoa’s for class. Very authentic menu, in a very traditional kitchen. It was an amazing experience!

Kevin and crew were exceptional in their planning, humor, English language skills and willingness to share their culture and traditions of 3 generations. We shopped at the wet and dry street market for the cooking ingredients. The 4 of us were prompted to request in Vietnamese the different quantities and goods to buy. Great immersion into the local market and people. Cooking, slicing and dicing with Ms Hoa and aunties was fun and I will bring home techniques to try in my kitchen. We feel honored that they opened their home and life to us. This is a true cultural experience. Don’t pass it up!

This was a great experience that my partner and I really enjoyed. It was an awesome way of getting to eat local food and experience a day in the life of a local in Ho Chi Minh City. This was such a special and memorable tour for me! I was looking for an authentic cooking class where I could taste and understand the real flavours of Vietnam - this was it! My tour guide and host Kevin was so accommodating and knowledgeable from when I first booked to when I arrived - top notch customer service. We absolutely loved our tour with Kevin! He was an excellent guide -very friendly, and knowledgeable! Our time in Ho Chi Mihn City was limited, so this was the perfect way to spend our evening there! We got to see areas we would likely not have seen on our own as it was very much off the beaten path for a tourist. Kevin did a great job at guiding us and explaining the different dishes, the language, and history of the city. And the food was some of the best we had in Vietnam! I highly recommend this tour - you will not be disappointed!

Experiencing and learning about the Cholon Neighborhood, especially the Binh Tay market, the fabric market, and one the oldest Buddhist temples in Chinatown with Kim was one of the highlights of our visit to Saigon! Kim is a fun and super knowledgeable guide since this is his home neighborhood. He was very responsive to our requests and took us to experience and taste things we never would have found on our own.

I am glad I did the Saigon walking tour with Kevin, having a local who is wiling to share his perspective of Saigon was valuable education for me; we walked through significant landmarks of the city together and Kevin personalized his tour to give me the very best experience possible. From my interactions with Kevin in one morning, I could feel his passion toward introducing his city to international visitors, there is nothing like getting to know a place through a local's perspective and Kevin did well as the ambassador of Vietnam!

I have been to HCM before about 15 years ago but decided to refresh myself with this tour. I am so glad I did especially with Anh Thu. She was insightful and so accomodating. She was so helpful with helping me taking photos. I love that we got to share an in-depth conversation about current Vietnam culture and exchanging stories about ourselves. As the time passed by I had wish we the tour was even longer. I highly recommend Anh Thu and give this tour a try when you are visiting HCM city.

This tour was awesome!! Riding through the little laneways on the back of a scooter is the best way to see the city. I got to see some very important historical sites, had some delicious Vietnamese coffee and visited the Temple of Ten Thousand Buddhas, among other things. My guide was a lovely fellow and he talked with much enthusiasm and clarity. I highly recommend this tour.
