About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- UkAnnie0 contributionsGreat experienceWe did this one night cruise on the Mekong River as part of a tour of Vietnam. It was very well organised and very enjoyable. There were only 8 cabins I think so we got to know the other people on the boat which is always interesting. The food was excellent and we had been pre warned that the cabins were very small so glad we just put some overnight things in a small bag so we didn’t need to open our cases. The cabins whilst tiny had everything we needed inc air conditioning which we weren’t expecting on a wooden boat and a tiny bathroom with a hand held shower . The first afternoon we went ashore to visit a village which to be honest wasn’t that great as it was really just a walk . The following morning after breakfast you vacate your cabin and disembark onto a smaller boat which takes you up to the floating market which was interesting to see but much smaller than it used to be we were told. We found learning about life on the Mekong Delta very interesting and the scenery was beautiful. One night was just enough to get a flavour of the area.Written May 20, 2024
- Practised_traveller0 contributionsFantastic insight to life in the Mekong DeltaWe spent one night aboard the Bassac 3 and couldn’t have been happier with the experience. An interesting voyage that gives you a feeling for nature and rural life along the Hau river as the Bassac (a boat built in the style of a traditional rice barge) gently cruises along. The captain did a great job navigating us through the river traffic, the crew are all charming and professional, the en-suite cabins very well equipped, comfortable and kept at a wonderful temperature, and the food outstanding. I have no idea how they can produce such sophisticated, fresh and tasty meals onboard a vessel of this size. Outings included an hour-long cycle ride through countryside and small villages, with a stop at a local family’s garden to cool down and taste fresh fruit. The following day, we took a speedboat to the wholesale floating market (Cai Be), which was as authentic as it gets. Hurry up and book before these traditions disappear, it will not be long before floating markets - if they exist - will become mere tourist attractions. We also visited the home of a local bamboo basket-weaving family, which gave us an insight on how laborious and time-consuming this work is. We never felt under pressure to buy anything, if anything it was clear the whole thing was not designed with that in mind. Drinks onboard were charged separately but were very reasonably priced. Thank you Bassac 3 captain and crew, you have been amazing and gave us wonderful lasting memories.Written April 26, 2024
- 800antoniad0 contributionsA great way to see traditional parts of the Mekong regionThis was a great river cruise with friendly, attentive and informative staff. My mum and I (aged 75 & 40) ended our trip around Vietnam with this 1 night River Cruise. It was extremely peaceful time and the food delicious! 12 cabins on the boat in total but there were only 6 of us on our trip which was perfect. The cabins are small but comfortable with air conditioning, bathroom and shower. We enjoyed both excursions and learnt a lot about village/town life in the Mekong region.Written April 14, 2024
- TallPaulLondon0 contributionsA great way to see traditional VietnamWe had a great 22 hours on the vessel seeing the heartland of Vietnam. The crew were great and very friendly, they spoke excellent English and French The food and beverages were good quality and the slow pace of life was reflected on board, it certainly less frantic compared to Ho Chi Minh City. The cabins are small, however absolutely fine for one night. They are en-suite and are very clean.Written April 3, 2024
- 876PeterL8760 contributionsWonderful 22 hours on a beautiful vessel.Unlike another earlier reviewer, we are currently having a totally enjoyable experience since this cruise started earlier today. The crew are wonderful , food is good( lunch included coconut prawns, calamari, catfish and beef stir fry) and the vessel is beautiful and totally different experience to the the rubbish- strewn Halong Bay, full of too many brightly lit and often noisy cruise boats. This is a working, living waterway- it is NOT a "Heart of Darkness " jungle experience. It is also not a flora, fauna or wildlife experience. We have just seen a glorious sunset before we have cocktails and dinner( soup, spring rolls,pork/ sea bass , banana and chocolate pancakes) 😋 Yes accommodation is smaller than some other cruise boats but it is beautifully fitted out in wood. Perfectly adequate bathroom for 1 night.Cabins have a/c and comfortable double or single beds. Just had a 6 km cycle around a local village guided by a local lady and fruit and tea at a local house. For us this is about seeing life on the waterways of the delta and the ways that locals live their lives and interact with the delta. We will have a wonderful 22 hours on Bassic 2 and enjoy the whole experience - priceless !Written March 18, 2024
- Bootneck40F0 contributionsA poor experience, at a very high price!Distinctly average. An expensive way to sit on a cramped boat while eating poor food, all the while looking at the banks of what is effectively a canal. Why not head up river to see some birdlife, flora and fauna, instead of the detritus of the Mekong Estuary. The bike ride was enjoyable, but we simply followed a local lady on a 7km route. No commentary. The room was extremely cramped, which I had read about beforehand, but beware, the walls between the cabins are extremely thin so you can hear EVERYTHING! My wife and I were kept awake all night by a German lady coughing next door. I was asked my dietary requirements, which were then ignored! Very, very poor value for money compared to the Ha Long Bay experience. Perhaps my own fault as I booked it through a travel agent and didn’t do enough research myself. Shame, we were very much looking forward to it. We couldn’t wait to get off the boat after 22 hours.Written March 15, 2024
- rebeccacV6715CM0 contributionsNot valuable for moneyIt was a nice view of Megon Delta but it's over price of what you get compare with the cruise you will take in Halong Bay. The cabin and bathroom were too small, you only have air conditioning in your room. It 's too hot to sit outside to enjoy the view during the day time. The food was just standard Vietnamese dishes nothing special. The staff was just doing their job. We even in the tour cycle around without any staff instruction only cycling.Written March 14, 2024
- thesens-Guernsey0 contributionsMEKONG CANAL WALKBooked as part of Trailfinders trip - so no choice Mediocre cruise - small boat - very basic facilities - toilet has a smell - limited deck seating Expected to cruise along huge Mekong river towards the delta, enjoy the open vista, cool breeze & serenity In practice, we sailed 5% on Mekong, 95% along a canal between 2 streams of Mekong That meant, sailing 10 metres from either bank, watching scooters, clothes wash line, fish market, soup kitchen, disco lights, neon signs, stray dogs, plastic junk on bank, communist party propaganda on loud speakers - you get the picture Might as well call it Mekong village walking tour rather than this pathetic hype Good dinner on boat - despicable alcohol Wish I had researched this - and said NO Expensive waste of a dayWritten March 14, 2024
- marcellem3320 contributionsMekong river cruiseMy trip on the Victoria Mekong was amazing. We travelled over 4 nights down the river. The boat was very new and stylish. The staff were incredible and there were daily excursions. It was the highlight of my holiday.Written March 13, 2024
- helenmori1000 contributionsRelaxing river cruiseWhat an amazing experience!!! Exceptional staff and food. I even undertook a small bike ride around a local village. I would like to make a special mention about Lucy….she was an amazing guide!!!!Written March 4, 2024
- MrandMrsICHBI0 contributionsGreat cruiseThe cruise along the Mekong Delta is lovely, we enjoyed a fantastic sunset & sunrise. The food on board was very good and freshly prepared. The cabins are small but comfortable, the shower is good, but an experience as the bathroom is small, the smallest wet room we have ever seen, so you shower on a slated floor between the sink & the toilet. Overall would recommend.Written February 29, 2024
- kevin S0 contributionsold word charm on the Mekong RiverThe four of us loved this tour. Professionally run, welcoming staff, amazing food combined with the old world elegance of the Bassac vessel. We cycled the country side, explored village life, went for a paddle in a sampan rowed by some lovely ladies. I loved it all. Dining on deck on the side of the Mekong River as the sun came up was outstanding.Written February 24, 2024
- skitzySuffolk0 contributionsDint miss out on this tripThis is the most amazing trip you could go on. Everything was perfect. Our guide Euey ( not sure on the spelling) was a perfect guide so knowledgeable, kind, helpful and his English was impeccable. There was a tour of 21 French people and us so it felt like we had are own personal guide. Thank you. We cycled, went to the floating market, watched a basket weaver in his own home. We didn't stop eating and Compliments to the chef as the food was absolutely delicious. All of the staff on this boat are great. Highly recommend, don't miss out on this trip.Written February 5, 2024
- christophermoisan0 contributionsWhat a treat! What a great way to see the Mekong River: lovely food and service, dream sunset and sunrise views. Room was small but perfectly formed! We were 2 of only 8 people on board, so facilities were excellent. Really enjoyed this experience, despite my reservations about cruises. The walk into the countryside was a particular high light of our holiday in Vietnam.Written January 12, 2024
- 706AndrewP0 contributionsGentle cruise and fascinating viewsThe other reviewers describe this well - the small but comfortable and cute cabins, excellent food and terrific staff, and the village walk or cycle options. We didn't visit the floating market - not sure why, perhaps it wasn't on that day, but be aware that the market isn't guaranteed. Instead, we were taken through a tiny canal barely wide enough for the 'canoe', the 'driveway' as it were for the homes hidden in the trees. It was utterly fascinating. Be aware though, that this is not a pretty cruise with unspoiled landscapes in a pristine wilderness. The Mekong and the canals we passed through are working rivers, with a passing parade of boats from steel barges larger than the Bassac piled high with gravel, to single-person paddled sampans. Some of Vietnam's poorest people live along the canals, and it is an odd feeling to be gliding past these tottering huts whilst fine dining. But it is utterly fascinating and a much truer look at a part of Vietnam not tricked out for tourists. I, and I hope my daughter, came away with a much greater appreciation of how lucky we were to be on a boat as lovely as the Bassac, in great company with gorgeous food. Highly recommended.Written December 22, 2023
