- E7484PRkarenm0 contributionsAmazing experience sampling local foodWe had so much fun with Ha on this tour, with our 3 kids aged 11-19. Not only did he introduce us to some amazing local food (much of which we would never have even thought to have ordered on our own), but he also gave us a great history of the foods and also about the local area and Vietnam in general. My 11 year old says “5 stars. Best thing ever!” Don’t ignore the recommendation to skip lunch - we were absolutely stuffed with all the good food by the end!Written June 23, 2024

- jerardj20200 contributionsAll the tours that are listed and so much moreI was lucky enough to stumble upon this tour company. All of their Hanoi city tours are well worth it and super informative and fun. I learned so much. The cool thing was that the company has enough experience with Vietnam in general that they were also able to help me customize some experiences for later in my trip. I had an unconventional timeline and some random set of wishes. Brian was experienced enough to understand my situation and piece together a custom itinerary that worked out perfect for me. He sensed what my style of travel was zeroed in on the perfect combination. I value his experience and think he has put together a unique company of guides and tours that stand out from the many that are offered. Go with A Taste of Hanoi and you will not regret it no matter which tour you choose.Written June 11, 2024

- Helen S0 contributionsMore than we expected and an experience we will remember. The 10 Tastes Tour of Hanoi introduced our group of six to a different side of Hanoi to which most tourists are oblivious. We walked around the Old Quarter, slipping between many small family-run cafes, sitting on tiny chairs and amongst cooking pots. There was plenty to see. We felt a part of everything going on around us, and we had the confidence to explore and discuss our thoughts on other travels and experiences in Vietnam with tour guide, Brian The Vagabond. He shared with us little bits of information relating to religious, cultural, and practical aspects of Vietnamese life and food. It really was like the name of the company - A Taste Of Hanoi - as the tour extend beyond simple food experiences. . We sampled 10 super fresh hot and cold dishes, green tea, and local beer that are uniquely Hanoi in their flavours. Brian is a passionate foodie, and his history of being a qualified chef encouraged us to try flavours and things outside our comfort zone, and they were super tasty. We had a coeliac on the tour, a person who was mad about fresh Durian, and a few who needed the comfort of fans in the stifling heat. Brian accommodated all our needs and answered our questions expertly. Of course the benefits are with finding some places to return to on your own. He really helped us understand each venue had opening and closing times, and why they had been chosen for the tour. The bites he chooses are unique and d high quality. We finished in a local beer hall and after running over time we parted with MỘT – HAI – BA– DZÔ and finished our tour, well satisfied we had ‘tasted’ Hanoi’s best.Written May 30, 2024
- cwda170 contributionsFood and FunAn absolutely wonderful journey with Brian! An experienced chef and guide for more than 15 years, over 10 in Vietnam, Brian knows the food scene in this town. In a Bourdain like extravaganza, we toured multiple unique spots around the old quarter. Each stop had an in-depth description of the specialty that we would enjoy, along with stories about the chef or restaurant. Our family of four throughly enjoyed this experience as we gained access to the inside scoop of what locals know. The tour was really well planned as we meandered between 9+ spots. We will try to return to all discoveries he introduced to us. A very enthusiastic foodie whose passion for Vietnamese cuisine is infectious. A++Written May 27, 2024
- E6447DZandrewh0 contributionsHalf day walking foodie tour HanoiLoved this walking foodie tour of Hanoi. Brian was an incredible host and his passion for food was evident from the moment we met. Hanoi really is a foodie paradise and I highly recommend this experience. Perfect final stop for coffee with view over the lake. If you do the afternoon tour I recommend you skip or have a very light lunch! Brian also did a great job of adapting the food to my gluten free diet.Written May 9, 2024

We were picked up from our homestay by our guide Ming and our driver Tee with their motorbikes. First we went to a local market (not touristy at all) where we got to know each other and had some delicious breakfast. Then we were taken to see a spot where there were some bombings which took place during the war and has some coffee at a cute place on the train racks. Bonus point? We were very lucky to see the train while we where we there. We also saw where the B52 plane fell off. Last but not least had some lunch at a place we would have never gone on our own and to finish it off with a glass of beer. It was more of a tour with two local friends rather than a war tour but we still had a great time!

We went with scooters. First it was raining, but they where prepared with rain protection for us. It is so much more flexible to go with a scooter!!We got a great insight view on Vietnam History and we where able to learn a lot from our guide Ha. He was accompanied from Niguyet and the two of them took very good care of us
I loved when we went through the black market on our scooters. It felt like in a James Bond movie

We were initially unsure about the mad chaos of Hanoi and spending 4 hours on a scooter but the experience couldn’t have been more fun or safer. Brian and his team navigated the streets and back allies with skill and we had a truly wonderful morning -culminating with a excellent lunch. We all would recommend this trip very highly

I chose Taste of Hanoi's War tour as a way to better get to know the city that I have lived in for over a year and I was NOT disappointed. The Tour took us to areas of Hanoi that I would not have otherwise even known about. Driving through the Black market, checking out war memorial sites, as well as a few sites where the war actual took place was so exciting for me. As a history buff, I loved every minute of it. I also loved trying the different street foods throughout the tour. Our lunch at trade shop 37 was like a step back in time. The site was once government owned and used to distribute food to Hanoians at a time when many did not have enough money to feed themselves nor their family. Ending on a high note, was a stop at a local bia hoi. Overall, this tour was fun filled, full of history, and exciting. The guides were well informed and made a point to take questions from us with regards to the war and all things Hanoi. I would recommend this to knot only history lovers but to anyone looking for a fun filled day learning about Vietnamese culture.

This was a really great experience and I learned so much about the city and its history that I would not have been able to learn otherwise. My guide was Ha, and he was super knowledgeable and friendly. He took me to many less touristy parts of the city, including some of his favourite places to eat for snack and meal breaks.

I had an amazing experience with Nhi Nyugen on her scooter. She was informative of all the various historical places we visited; especially as her Grandfather had experienced so much of the War in Hanoi.
The tour also included lots of different experiences, life on the Black Market, the Opera house, and monuments to some pretty emotional acts of kindness and bravery that occurred during the war.
We also had Breakfast in the Market cooked just for me, YUM! Then juice by the 52 Bomber memorial; again freshly squeezed as we ordered, and lunch by the lake at a historical Cafe that specialises in being a small museum about post War life too.
We also had a refreshing, and very tasty, Hanoi beer in a local watering hole, made local and not in a can; served by the jug!!. The land lady even filled an empty water bottle with a wee drop to take back to my hotel for later!!
I travelled alone so this experience is one I would never have had, if it had not been for the time I spent with Nhi. Thanks also to her boss Brian, for making it happen. These guides and team will work very hard with you, or your group to make each experience exactly what you or your group require .
Amazing time whizzing around Hanoi on Nhi's scooter, an experience I will treasure always.
Thank you <3

This tour was educational and informative, and took us to see places and things we would never have found by ourselves. We learnt a lot. Travelling by motorcycle was a brilliant way to get around and was great fun. Our guides Ha and Sun were knowledgeable and friendly. A really enjoyable morning. Highly recommended.
