- E7484PRkarenm0 contributionsAmazing experience sampling local foodWe had so much fun with Ha on this tour, with our 3 kids aged 11-19. Not only did he introduce us to some amazing local food (much of which we would never have even thought to have ordered on our own), but he also gave us a great history of the foods and also about the local area and Vietnam in general. My 11 year old says “5 stars. Best thing ever!” Don’t ignore the recommendation to skip lunch - we were absolutely stuffed with all the good food by the end!Written June 23, 2024

- jerardj20200 contributionsAll the tours that are listed and so much moreI was lucky enough to stumble upon this tour company. All of their Hanoi city tours are well worth it and super informative and fun. I learned so much. The cool thing was that the company has enough experience with Vietnam in general that they were also able to help me customize some experiences for later in my trip. I had an unconventional timeline and some random set of wishes. Brian was experienced enough to understand my situation and piece together a custom itinerary that worked out perfect for me. He sensed what my style of travel was zeroed in on the perfect combination. I value his experience and think he has put together a unique company of guides and tours that stand out from the many that are offered. Go with A Taste of Hanoi and you will not regret it no matter which tour you choose.Written June 11, 2024

- Helen S0 contributionsMore than we expected and an experience we will remember. The 10 Tastes Tour of Hanoi introduced our group of six to a different side of Hanoi to which most tourists are oblivious. We walked around the Old Quarter, slipping between many small family-run cafes, sitting on tiny chairs and amongst cooking pots. There was plenty to see. We felt a part of everything going on around us, and we had the confidence to explore and discuss our thoughts on other travels and experiences in Vietnam with tour guide, Brian The Vagabond. He shared with us little bits of information relating to religious, cultural, and practical aspects of Vietnamese life and food. It really was like the name of the company - A Taste Of Hanoi - as the tour extend beyond simple food experiences. . We sampled 10 super fresh hot and cold dishes, green tea, and local beer that are uniquely Hanoi in their flavours. Brian is a passionate foodie, and his history of being a qualified chef encouraged us to try flavours and things outside our comfort zone, and they were super tasty. We had a coeliac on the tour, a person who was mad about fresh Durian, and a few who needed the comfort of fans in the stifling heat. Brian accommodated all our needs and answered our questions expertly. Of course the benefits are with finding some places to return to on your own. He really helped us understand each venue had opening and closing times, and why they had been chosen for the tour. The bites he chooses are unique and d high quality. We finished in a local beer hall and after running over time we parted with MỘT – HAI – BA– DZÔ and finished our tour, well satisfied we had ‘tasted’ Hanoi’s best.Written May 30, 2024
- cwda170 contributionsFood and FunAn absolutely wonderful journey with Brian! An experienced chef and guide for more than 15 years, over 10 in Vietnam, Brian knows the food scene in this town. In a Bourdain like extravaganza, we toured multiple unique spots around the old quarter. Each stop had an in-depth description of the specialty that we would enjoy, along with stories about the chef or restaurant. Our family of four throughly enjoyed this experience as we gained access to the inside scoop of what locals know. The tour was really well planned as we meandered between 9+ spots. We will try to return to all discoveries he introduced to us. A very enthusiastic foodie whose passion for Vietnamese cuisine is infectious. A++Written May 27, 2024

I’ll confess - my reason for taking the tour was to get sunset pictures, but the rain started falling an hour before and it turned into a rainy adventure. I’m so glad I had Công to guide me around Hanoi via motorbike! Bourdain said in his Hanoi episode that the one thing you HAVE to do is see Hanoi by motorbike ... I’d add, “in the rain.”
The combination of art, history, culture, and food was unbeatable. As a solo traveler who doesn’t speak the language, one of my biggest worries is that I won’t truly experience a place, but getting the chance to spend the evening chatting with Công about his life and the deep history of Vietnam was an absolute pleasure! We saw the Ho Chi Minh flag lowering ceremony at 9p, and before that spent hours looking at a variety of sights, and eating snacks along the way. Dinner was absolutely delicious and in a place I never would have found on my own — let alone would I have known what to order. All five dishes were completely new to me, which was amazing.
In summary, if you’re looking to experience Hanoi beyond the guidebook, this is the tour for you. I would add that I loved supporting a local company (run by an expat American) that hires young people like Công. His love of learning is infectious - thanks for a great time, Công!

This is a small company and made up of folks who live locally in Vietnam. If you are looking for a safe, memorable, and absolutely perfect way to see the city, do this trip through this company.
My wife and I took a private motorbike tour with this group, specifically Brian and Cung, and they were the best people we met while in Hanoi. They gave us an experience that we never would have dreamed of, from mixing history with food to sweeping views off Long Bien Bridge, to the flag lowering ceremony at Ba Dinh Square. We learned so much history, got to know our guides over various eats (banh mi, yogurt coffee, aforementioned dinner), and discovered new foods and tastes that only they could help us find. It was our most memorable and personal experience in Hanoi, like we were out with new (and old) friends.
The ride itself was very easy, comfortable, and relaxing--both our guides were excellent drivers, of course. If you are nervous or hesitant to get on a motorbike in this city, don't worry! This tour group has you covered!

I did this tour with a group of friends and it was fantastic! Seeing Hanoi on the back of a scooter is the way to go. When your driver is an intelligent, charming, engaging local university student, it’s even better.
I felt sorry for the people I saw sealed inside their tour buses, completely cut off from the incredible Hanoi street life.
Brian and the crew covered a lot of ground with us. We were treated to a variety of sounds, sights, smells, and of course delicious food and drink.
Our drivers were skilled and willing to answer any questions about Hanoi and Vietnamese culture from a local’s perspective, which really made the tour for me.
This tour was so great that we went on another one before we had to head to the airport to fly home. Although Brian was leading another tour and just the students were our guides, it was as exciting and interesting as the first tour. Banana Island was a highlight for me.
