About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- salsfj0 contributionsBest tourWhat a great way to see the hidden gems of Hanoi! Our guide Mai was very helpful. We started off at the Hidden Gem Cafe with lovely egg coffee and juice then we headed out on our adventure. Our driver Mr Suc was an expert in navigating the streets and he had a lot of patience waiting for us at different stops. I loved the way our guide Mai explained each stop, very detailed! It was like putting the puzzle pieces together!! I would definitely recommend this tour. It's so much fun!Written March 23, 2025
- Tracey Q0 contributionsAmazing tour to off the beaten track placesFantastic tour, Michael was very informative. Great history to be experienced in his home village. We saw homestay in Duong Lam Eco Home, cooked fresh corn from the garden, shared many types of tea at different stops, had an amazing lunch in bamboo forest, and afternoon tea with his beautiful family. No experience like our day today with other tours. Awesome day.Written March 23, 2025
- prashp20200 contributionsHighlight of Hanoi!Amazing experience and a great way to see all parts of the city in a few hours! The drivers were extremely knowledgable and friendly. It was the perfect balance between fun, adventure and safety in Hanoi.Written March 22, 2025
- Y7205IBtimb0 contributionsA great way to see parts of the countryside from Hanoi, and to learn about life here. This is a great way to gain a perspective on village life outside Hanoi in the Red River delta. Huy was very articulate and well informed about the history and life in this part of Vietnam, and made the whole experience very interesting. We were conducted through the city and into some tiny country roads in a comfortable, but exciting way on the back of a couple of motorcycles, which provided not only a great view, but also a way to see parts of the countryside which would be inaccessible by car. We were treated to a delicious traditional lunch in a private home, we visited a couple of village centers, drove through the paddy fields, saw a lotus farm, and finally braved the Hanoi traffic to be dropped back at our hotel. The bikes felt safe, the drivers were careful, so we could focus on the experience. A big part of the tour was the conversation with Huy, who not only shared information about the places we visited, but also shared something of his own life. His openness made this a unique and valuable experience.Written March 22, 2025
- Sightseer224598747930 contributionsBrilliant motorbike tour! This was an amazing tour through several parts of Hanoi, taking you through the Old Quarter, French Quarter, banana island and several backstreets and alleys showing genuine day to day life in Hanoi. Really glad I booked on and would recommend to anybody who wants to see some bits of Hanoi that you won’t see in the old quarter. What I took most from the tour was the ability to speak to the Vietnamese guides whose English was perfect and ask questions about the country, do a bit of language exchange and joke with. Thanks for the memoriesWritten March 21, 2025

Everything was taken care for, from the car to the food and to the sites, it was personalized and interesting : his explanation of Vietnamese culture through his own personal experience was very enriching. We feel his approach of tourism is very sincere and full of love. His knowledge of where to eat (inside the bamboo forest) makes it a really safe experience, culinary wise. We recently did a 5-hour Jeep tour in Hanoi, and it was truly one of the highlights of our trip! Our guide l, Ria and our drive L were exceptional – she was incredibly knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and knew exactly how to keep us engaged and happy throughout the tour. We explored some fantastic local spots that really gave us a feel for Hanoi’s rich culture and vibrant atmosphere.
Highlights included a visit to the famous Train Street, two serene lakes, and some breathtaking views of the city. Every moment felt authentic, and the evening portion of the tour was especially magical. I highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting a deeper connection with Hanoi’s local scene and history. Don’t miss out on this experience!

If you’re looking for an unforgettable way to experience Hanoi, I highly recommend the Backstreet Tours Vietnam Army Jeep Street Food Tour. This tour was the perfect mix of history, culture, and incredible local food, all while riding in a vintage army jeep that made the experience even more exciting.
Our guide, Doahn, was fantastic—knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about showing us the real Hanoi. He took us to hidden food spots that only locals would know, making each stop feel like a true insider experience. The highlight for us was the pho, served out of a local woman’s home—an incredible, authentic experience we never would have found on our own.
Beyond the food, Doahn did an excellent job of explaining the history of Hanoi and taking us through parts of the city we might not have explored on our own. Cruising through the bustling streets in the open-air jeep gave us a unique perspective of the city, allowing us to soak in its energy while learning about its rich past.
Overall, this tour was a highlight of our time in Vietnam. If you’re a foodie looking for an off-the-beaten-path adventure with great storytelling and a touch of history, this is the perfect experience. Highly recommend!

A fun and informative tour guided by Q and courageously driven through the chaotic but not too frightening Hanoi city traffic by Mr Da.
Q shared lots of cultural and historical information about Vietnam and specifically Hanoi. He was always happy to answer any extra questions we had about things he was telling us or the sights we saw all in perfect English and an appropriate dose of humour so understanding was not a problem for us.
We made a train street stop (for a drink as a train went through) and another to walk back streets and understand why some of the city has developed the way it has. We also stopped at Hanoi’s oldest bridge and learnt about its quirks.
We took the morning tour finishing with lunch. (Tip: have a light breakfast if you choose the same as lunch is early and there is plenty of it!)
We would recommend this tour because we learnt a lot and identified some places we’d like to visit/re-visit during our time in Hanoi such as train street and Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum.

We had an amazing tour guide named Fred, she was very enthusiastic and welcoming. Very funny tour guide and loved telling us stories behind the things we were seeing. The tour was really fun one of the best if not the best I’ve done anywhere. We saw a mix of historic sites such as the Air Force museum as well as local culture and tried local cuisine. The driver we had was very good as well his name was Mr Cung, the streets here as so busy and crowded but we felt safe the whole time as he drove really calmly and picked us up in spots that weren’t as dangerous. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this tour for anyone coming to honai we wouldn’t have seen or heard of half these things and we really got to immerse ourselves in the culture.

We had an amazing Jeep tour of Hanoi and it certainly was one of the best experiences of our trip. Our guide Huy was young but very knowledgeable and made our experience so much fun and we would certainly recommend him. The Jeep tour of the city with lunch included and visiting most of the important landmarks of Hanoi is an experience we will cherish for a very long time. Thank you.

Overall a really great way to see Hanoi for the afternoon booking. We started with a very nice lunch at hidden gem cafe which was quite filling and went for an hour, then we drove around for about 3.5hrs and sometimes got out for short walks. Sim was a great guide, very informative, helpful and friendly. After lunch, the only other food we had was one sticky cake and a coffee in train street later in the day. You can also ask for coconut coffee or another drink like egg chocolate instead of egg coffee.
Be cautious that the company will try to get everyone to write a 5 star review near the end of the trip and will even ask you to change the review if you don't give 5 stars. It was a great experience, but slightly tainted by being pressured to write a good review.
The Jeep itself was a bit slow, bumpy, confined in the backseat and easy to knock knees on metal, but it was nice being elevated and we otherwise felt quite safe. They provided broad brim hats if needed. We didn't get to see the train go past despite what the website said, it sounds a bit hit or miss whether you get to see it or not. After the tour, we went back to 'Hanoi 1990s' cafe around 7pm to see the train go past south train st.
Although a bit pricey, I would still recommend doing the tour, it was a very nice afternoon with a nice lunch, just take the exceptionally high ratings on trip advisor with a grain of salt.

What a super fun tour. From an open army jeep you can see the city from a completely different perspective. We stopped at places where you would not come on your own so quickly and our nice spontaneous guide Fred knew a lot to tell and also had answers to all questions. Also, Hai, our driver, made sure he got us to the railway in time due to the busy rush hour and we were just in time for the passing train. And don't forget the delicious lunch. Highly recommended.

Hello - we went on a tour 2 weeks ago and our lovely tour guide James Bond. He bought us a dish from the market to try and I can’t remember the name of it. It was wrapped in a banana leaf (I think), and was sticky / stir fried rice with mung beans, peanuts and pork floss. Please can you let me know the name so I can look it up and try to recreate it when we go home! Thank you
