Excellent opportunity for street photography in Hanoi
This early morning trip along some iconic photo locations in Hanoi was amazing and very well organised. Tung showed me several nice places and provided excellent advice on the camera setting to capture the decisive moments. I had sufficient time to make pictures and am very happy with the results. After a few hours shooting, the tour was concluded with a coffee and a nice breakfast at a local restaurant. I can highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in street photography in Hanoi.

Amazing experience with insightful photographer guide!
I did a customised tour with the VIF team and I can honestly say that this is one of the most amazing experiences in Vietnam I had. Tung was my assigned photographer guide for the trip and he was a gem in guiding me in the angles and the stories and emotions I wanted to convey through my photos. Don’t worry about having a pro camera, I went on the tour only with my iPhone.

Local market for real local people
This is the first time I’ve taken any sort of photography tour so I did not know what to expect. My tour guide Brian was great as he told me some historic background of the thieves market and the neighborhood. He also took me to places where I would not dare to go by myself and snapped some nice shots. Besides showing me around the places, he also gave me some tips of my camera settings that improved my shots. I’d recommend anyone who visit Hanoi to take one of Vietnam in Foucs tour.

          Great Company Great Guides
I highly recommend Vietnam in Focus to anyone interested in a quality experience photographing the people countryside of Vietnam. I was on a two person, three week photo excursion. The itinerary was developed by Vietnam in Focus after they gained an understanding of our photo interests and desires. The first thing that impressed me abut the company was their communication. Questions were asked and answered promptly and effectively. In fact everything about the company was that way. On the trip we had different guides for various parts of the Country . Minh, Cristian, Phoung, and Viet were are main guides. They are talented photographers, great guides and wonderful individuals. I enjoyed their stories, insights and personalities. We made adjustments during our trip based on various conditions and desires. The front office of Vietnam in Focus made these adjustments easy. While I am sure there are many companies offering photo trips. The quality of the company and their guides, I believe they have earned your consideration.

          Wonderful 19 day photography adventure
A friend and I recently returned from a fantastic 19-day Ultimate Vietnam Photographic trip. It was in every way everything and more than I expected. The planning of our custom trip was made very easy with back-and-forth conversations with Alex who was extremely patient and helpful in arriving at our final itinerary. From the moment we were met at Vietnam Ho Chi Minh City customs with a representative from VIF who helped getting us through, to the moment we were dropped off at the Hanoi Airport Hotel everything went very smoothly. As we made our way northward, we had 4 guides and drivers with us each from the areas that we were in. The guides were knowledgeable, very friendly, patient, and helpful. They were all photographers and learned what we were looking for photographically. They all quickly became our friends as well as guides. Many thanks to Minh, Cristian, Phuong and Viet!! They were very flexible regarding our itinerary and easily made modifications based on our interests and activity in the areas we visited. They also made sure, because of the extremely hot temperatures that we were hydrated and well. Our drivers were likewise great. We felt safe and secure throughout the trip, especially while traversing the narrow, windy, mountainous roads in the north. There was so much that we experienced during our trip. Wanting to have an authentic experience, we visited many small villages with ethnic minorities. A few were quite out of the way, and we were clearly the only Westerners there. We visited many local markets, which we loved and always opted to eat at local restaurants or in the market with the local people. During the course of our trip, we had the opportunity to visit the Khmer, Chams, Hmong, Hoa and Dzao people. There were so many wonderful experiences that we were able to have. Each day was a new photography adventure. A few of the highlights for me were; By coincidence we were in the Khmer area on the last day of their New Year celebration and experienced a marvelous celebration in the streets with water and flour being tossed everywhere. We planned our trip so that we would be in Meo Vac to go to the once weekly ethnic minority market area where people from the villages from all the surrounding areas come to buy and sell and socialize. It was fantastic. We were able to visit villages where most of the economy revolved around a single industry. Whether it was the brick industry in Vinh Long, the fishing trade in Hoi An, the silk manufacturing process in Nam Dinh, the incense making villages or the pottery making village, we were able to see the entire process from start to finish. In the north, we made many stops as we wove our way through the mountains to photograph the breathtaking landscapes. I can’t imagine that there is another company other than Vietnam In Focus that can offer a trip as rich and varied, geared for photographers. My recommendation couldn’t be stronger. Just beginning to go through my photographs, so I can't post more.

          An exceptional Vietnam experience.
Awesome, I did tours in Saigon and Danang with Minh, and Cristian. Discovered hidden places and great opportunities to discover traditional Vietnam away from the tourists for great photo opportunities. Both guides were experienced, knowledgeable and fun to be with on each tour. Would recommend Vietnam in Focus

          Going above and beyond
We organised with VIF, a customised tour of the Mekong Delta. From the time we started organising the tour to the actual tour, Yen was incredible. Responding super quickly and always so accommodating to our needs. Our guides Eileen and Emma were both fun and professional. Their professionalism and willingness to go above and beyond was illustrated when we had a hiccup with our passports. We wouldn't have been able to get through the ordeal without Yen's and Emma's assistance. Incredible people and incredible company. Oh and our driver was absolutely wonderful too! Our tour had to be modified but they had our requests and best interests at heart. We experienced some incredible sights and authentic experiences off the beaten track in the Mekong. We have no hesitation in recommending VIF to our photographic networks.

Unique and unforgettable way to experience Vietnam
Going to start by saying that we did three tours with Vietnam in Focus and we really can’t rate them highly enough. The set up is really professional have established a network of super talented, highly experienced and very individual guides. We had trips with Eileen (Saigon), Cristian (Hoi an), Brian and Tung (Hanoi). Each photographer had their own unique style, interpretation and take on photography and what makes a great composition. We took something different from each which was amazing. What each had in common was a professional approach, superb communication with us and the Vietnamese locals. We got to go to places that were off the beaten track where we wouldn’t have found as a tourist and saw areas of this amazing country that many will miss and in fact actively avoid. All of our guides offered advice, information experience and I’m not sure if it’s company policy but each offered to review and cast an eye over any photos beyond the tour by way of critique. Also a massive thank to Yến for her communication and patience in accommodating our itinerary.

Lovely personalized experience with a very knowledgeable local. Walking historian with a great disposition and character
I went on this tour with a friend to get a more personalized tour of the incense village and Tung made sure we got exactly that! We got to explore an area off the beaten path and ask questions to the workers. We great tips on good shots and pointers to get a good story on camera.

Most incredible tour i have ever experienced
This was the most incredible tour I have been on! Not only was it private with my 2 other friends, I saw parts of Hanoi I would have not seen otherwise. I also saw these places at times I would not have gone. The assistance I recieved for using my camera ( sony A7iii) and my friends recieved using their phones (Samsung and iPhone) was perfect. We booked this tour as our first experience upon arrival in Hanoi. Land, 4 hrs sleep, go! After this tour we were able to relax and enjoy Hanoi because the tour so fulfilling. I would not have enjoyed Hanoi as much as I did without having done this tour. I HIGHLY recommend this tour if you want to see and capture your time in Hanoi. The cost is worth every penny!

          Amazing Trip with VIF
My father and I did a custom week-long tour with VIF and it was spot on. They were knowledgeable, very flexible, and responsive during the planning process. Most international photo trips have some kind of hiccup(s) but it was all smooth sailing with VIF which allowed us to focus on enjoying our time, instead of problem-solving or being stressed. Our guide, Hoang Viet Nguyen, was kind, talented, compassionate, and fun to be around. Ultimately, these folks know what they're doing and it shows. Thank you for the beautiful tour of Vietnam!

You won’t go wrong with Vietnam in Focus.
We are very happy with the trip we took to Vietnam and with the Vietnam in Focus team that supported us on Days of the Dragon experience. It was great to visit the country during their New Lunar Year Celebrations. That made it all the more enjoyable. Tung, our intrepid photography leader and the rest of the team were class acts and amazing guides. Tung was excellent at giving us advice and pushing us out of our comfort zone to really capture some great shots. We especially enjoyed the following: dinner with the local guide’s family - hands down the best authentic experience of the trip (Hoa’s family was so welcoming); the impromptu stops at schools and the various community centres; and just walking through the country side capturing every day life in Vietnam. The team was super flexible and accommodating. I would definitely book with ViF again. Thanks for helping us make lasting memories.

          An unforgettable experience
Prior my arrival in Vietnam, the communication with the company via email was quick and the payment process was easy. My guide Paul, a talented professional photographer, made me discover many places that I had never been befor (it was my third time in Saigon). He has never rushed me and all the tours was done following my rhythm. He was very helpful when it was time to take a break to eat food and to get a drink. Even though I am a professional photographer, he showed me some tips related to street photography, which he excels at. At the end I needed to buy an external hard drive, and Paul took the time to take me to an electronic store.

This tour is fantastic for anyone who wants to see some of the best street/urban photo spots in Hanoi. Phuong was a phenomenal guide who not only provided some valuable photography tips but also gave a huge amount of insight into Vietnamese culture and history. Definitely recommend!

        This tour was amazing 10/10
Boris our guide picked us up at 04.30 in the morning to start the photo tour, immediately we felt comfortable with him and he was an absolute pleasure to spend the time with.
He gave us many tips advice and information that we will always take with us.
Boris took us to Long Bien bridge to photograph the train and the photos turned out amazing, beyond our expectations.
We then entered the market and took photos of the people going about their daily lives.
He showed us where to take the photo, how to take them and when to take them. He gave great advice to Jayne as she didn’t know her way around the camera only on auto mode, but to her surprise found with Boris’s advise she could move on and take great photos without using auto. He has great patience. we walked to old quarter after the market and took more shots, visited train street as well, we were well impressed with the information and advice we were given
I can’t recommend Boris enough. without him our photos would have been just good photos but with him they were truly great.
We will be super proud to show off our morning photo tour photographs to all who want to see them. On viewing photos later, we have some fantastic ones. Thanks Boris 😁
Once again a big shout out to Boris and a big thank you for all your help, advice and friendship. hope if you book this tour you are as lucky as us to have Boris take you 👍

My wife and I took the tour on the 20/11/18 , our guide was Duc , he didn't need to teach us anything about photography. It was useful to have Duc with us to help us communicate with the people. The market is full on and you just don't know what to photograph next .
Thanks guys for a great experience.

Thank you very much for your review. Yes, you did tell us that you wouldn't be needing any instruction from Duc during the tour. Glad that you enjoyed the market and the abundant photo opportunities in there. It certainly helps to have someone knowledgeable and fluent in the local language to help. All the best with your photography!

DucLinh was my guide for the morning and provided one of the best learning experiences I've had with my photography. From the impressive sights on the bridge to the bustling market, I was captivated and overawed.

Must do if you are looking for something unique in Hanoi.

While in Hanoi for a few days waiting for the start of a major photo tour of Vietnam, I decided to sign up for both this tour and the Hanoi by night tour. Both photographers I worked with were excellent, taking me places I couldn't have found on my own and suggesting a variety of angles and techniques designed to make sure I went home happy. Kudos to both Duc (Sunrise tour) and Matthieu (Hanoi at Night); I also enjoyed talking with them about life in Vietnam and Hanoi in particular. Vietnam in Focus also offers longer-range trips if you're interested. Do give them a try!

Very enjoyable tour with Boris, the market area at dawn was not one I would have found on my own. His suggestions on street photography, and how locals would react, was helpful and amusing, and his ideas on telling a story, composition and panning helped to break out of my normal habits, ie explore. Came back with a few shots I liked and the basis for a couple of stories- in all a good return for a morning out.

It has taken me a while to write this review because i have a busy work and family life schedule, but the delay shouldn't undermine in any way the enthusiasm and high regard that i have for the entire crew at Vietnam in Focus. There is the old saying that you only have one shot to make a first impression, and these guys were absolutely outstanding from the very start in communicating with me and making the entire booking and photo tour experience enjoyable and stress free. While I was only allowed to identify one tour as part of this site review, I actually took four different tours with them during my trip and each one was well worth it. Their business approach is well thought out, leaving the excellent photographers to handle the photography side and the individuals with exceptional organization and customer service skills to handle the business side. This is very different from many other tour companies that I had dealt with in other countries, where photographers try to do everything and it ends up being a complete disaster. Alex and Yen were incredibly helpful in organizing the different tours and very responsive and accomodating whenever I had question or a concern about my trip. The photographers exuded enthusiasm and a love of photography that was undeniably infectious. As with any tour or service, you only get what you put into it, so to really learn from these guys and this experience be open to engaging them on sharing their technical skills and getting to them to demonstrate how they think about and might approach a shot. What I learned is that these photographers aren't just there to walk you around and stand by why you did your thing, but rather they would engage with you, discuss their life with you and how they got to where they are today, share their way of thinking about photography and help you think about how to approach a subject differently than you otherwise might. The experience felt personal and not business like. They love photography and won't hesitate to share and critique (and critique is okay, even if one should feel confident in his or her own style and what makes a photograph interesting for him or her, you become better only if you are willing to seek and accept feedback). In fact, I think at one point Boris turned to me (chuckling and joking of course) and emphatically stated that I have enough equipment so don't buy anymore but rather just go out and take pictures! He was more right than he knew, as he was echoing the sentiments of my wife that I collect too much equipment and not enough photographs...and it is why I decided to go on this on this trip in the first instance after a several year hiatus. Colm, Boris and Mansour were all very delightful and downright personable, just the kind of people you would love to share a beer with (and by the way we did share many, along with alex and yen!). I couldn't recommend these guys enough and perhaps someday will get back to see more of the country side and without a doubt would turn to these guys for that experience. I am going to do a shout out for some of the shirts Boris has created on the side. Very comfortable and very cool if you are interested in bringing something back other than the typical tourist trinket. I highly recommend these team and Vietnam In Focus team, I'll be sharing some images and working on a web site to share my reinvigorated passion shortly. Look forward to seeing you all again some day.
