It was Christmas day when we joined the cooking class with Galangal Cooking Studio – what is better to cook your Christmas dinner yourself? As a family of three, including our 9-year-old daughter, we started with a visit to a local market to learn about unique local ingredients—an enjoyable and educational start to the class. The cooking studio was well-equipped, and our tutor, Ah Wen, was incredible. She’s the best tutor we’ve ever had (even compared to classes in Spain and Italy)! Ah Wen is skilled, knowledgeable, and amazing at managing timing, guiding us to cook multiple dishes at a perfect pace. She’s also very patient, detailed, and excellent at teaching kids. The 3+ hours flew by, and the dishes we made were so delicious that we could hardly believe we cooked them ourselves! I highly recommend this class, especially Ah Wen’s Chinese-speaking session—it’s an unforgettable experience!

This was our final activity in Thailand, and it certainly lived up to our expectations. Our instructor, New (yes, that’s her name—she jokes about it being "old" and not "new"). Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and seated while waiting for the rest of the group. Once everyone had arrived, we took a brief trip to the local market to gain insight into where and how the ingredients are sourced. After that, we returned to the studio, donned our aprons, and began the step-by-step process of preparing four dishes of our choosing, which we selected through a link sent by New that morning. You can also purchase beers on-site at a reasonable price compared to other restaurants. It was a delightful experience mingling with people from all over the world, and no prior cooking experience is necessary to join the class. After cooking each dish, we sat down to enjoy it before moving on to the next one. Overall, it was a fun evening filled with great food and New's expert guidance—definitely an experience you won't want to miss!

The market trip was super educational ! We absolutely loved the hands on cooking class. The food was amazing and the instructor sooooo good! My two young adult sons even said this was one of their trip highlights! 110% recommend!

This was THE BEST cooking class ever! New, who is the instructor, was amazing. So friendly & knows her stuff. Can’t wait to do another class when I come back to Chiang Mai, to try some more dishes. This was an excellent experience! We especially loved that we could preorder our pesonalised preferred dishes to learn to make, and then made them 'as you like it' - as spicy or mild as we enjoy eating! 😋 We participated as 4 adults in a group of about 10 people and the class was extremely well organised. There is a great combination of cultural learning, ingredient education and technique development throughout this class. Aoy is a skilled educator, injecting lots of humor along the way! It was like participating in a well choreographed dance, as Aoy directed each of our groups along the process of progressing our meals, despite the many variations being simultaneously prepared. Poetry in motion! 😁 Aoy is ably assisted by a fabulous team of 'fairy godmothers' who unobtrusively clean and tidy everything while you are cooking and instantly procure anything you need! ✨️We left this class with a 'warm inner glow' - full tummies and a wonderful sense of having achieved great things! We eagerly look forward to preparing our dishes for friends and family back home. This was a highlight of our three week trip in Thailand and we couldn't recommend it highly enough!

The cooking class was great fun! you make a big range of thai food and can choose what you make. Aoy was absolutely lovely and really helpful she has an amazing buisness and is absolutely hilarious!
