The Highlight of our Visit to Chiang Mai!
This trip was amazing. Ming, our tour guide, picked us up on time at our hotel and his English is excellent. He was eager to share facts about Chiang Mai & elephants. At the elephant sanctuary, the elephants are treated kindly. We fed them, prepared healthy snacks for them, prepared a natural bath for them, and waded in the water showering them. The mahouts were so caring to the elephants and friendly to us. This was the highlight of our visit to Chiang Mai. Then, we drove to the Sticky Waterfall which was beautiful and refreshing. We returned home so glad that we had this incredible experience. Highly recommend!

          Great Adventure with Jo
Jo was great. Catered our tour to our exact needs and preferences. Very knowledgeable and friendly. Also took us to a great ethical elephant sanctuary. It was like a private elephant tour. Awesome adventure

Great to see rare birds in a beautiful environment
Joe is knowledgeable of the region and birds within the area. He certainly knows the best spots to see a range of unique local birdlife. He's also good company for a morning's hike. Good for beginner's and people who enjoy the outdoors.

          Perfect Combo
We had a terrific day with Ming. The elephant sanctuary is amazing. They will give you flip flops to wear, so don’t worry about your shoe choice. They also give you shorts & a shirt. There are changing areas so you can take off your clothes. We did all get wet when we were in the water with the elephants. Lunch was immediately after we finished with the elephants. It was a delicious Thai meal & plenty of it! Climbing the sticky waterfall was so unique! You have to descend a lot of steps to get to the bottom. On the climb up, there are some sections with ropes & railings for support, but not the entire way! You need to be moderately fit & adventurous! Highly recommend!

Incredible experience - SO worth the early start!
I can’t recommend this experience enough. You get so much packed in, but plenty of time for each stage of the itinerary - it’s really well planned. We also ended up having the whole experience to ourselves, which felt incredibly special. Our driver, Ming, was so lovely and helpful. He talked us through the day as things were happening, and gave us interesting context to each experience. We also learnt a lot about Chiang Mai from him, which was really nice. Our guide from the Karen tribe was also brilliant and answered our many, many questions. The trek itself is very varied and doable in the heat - you can walk at a pace that suits you. The wildlife is great and really exciting, the coffee at the end is delicious. Overall, 10/10 and would highly recommend!

Absolutely must do the sunrise tour!!!
The sunrise tour is an absolute must when visiting Chiang Mai. We booked a day in advance and ended up being the only guests, which was pretty special. Lee our driver was early & waiting ready with the aircon pumping in the van. We arrived to watch the sunset about 15 mins prior to the actual sunrise and the views are something we will remember forever! A light breakfast followed before a small stroll around a beautiful boardwalk birdwatching. The Twin Pagodas were something out of a movie scene as we had the entire place to ourselves due to the early start time. The whole time we were there, we didn't see another soul. Our 2 hour hike was with the most incredible local guide from the Karen village, who was most hospitable and spoke excellent english. Rice fields, waterfalls and a paddle in the local stream were a highlight of our trek. Stopping in the village for freshly ground coffee and learning some history on how coffee plantations came to be in Thailand was also fascinating. On the way home, Lee treated us to Khao Soi for lunch at a local restaurant with Thai desert. 100000/10 for both dishes! If all of this wasn't enough, we visited a local silk producer and jade shop. A long day very well spent!

A MUST DO Sunrise and adventure day
Professionally led from start to finish! Our driver Lee was early, professional and extremely accommodating. He made sure to include many pit stops for breaks and hydration and was also a superb guide, making sure we didn't miss the sunrise or any other location of merit. For our hike we had a wonderful lady from the local mountain village (unfortunately can't remember her name) she spoke amazing English and knew the land like the back of her hand. The views were awesome, educational and inspiring . Getting to see her local village and even try local harvested and roasted coffee was a highlight of my whole trip to Thailand. Lee made sure we were well fed for breakfast and lunch and got us back to our hotel safe. 10/10 day, will recommend to all. A MUST DO for tourist in Chiang Mai! Bravo

          Overpriced driver
This was more of an overpriced driver than a tour. Saw 2 temples very close to our hotel and sticky waterfalls. Lunch was mediocre at best. The van was a bit beat up as well. I do not recommend this tour.

          Great birdwatching!
Joe was great! He was very knowledgeable about local birds and location of different species in the park. We loved the stop at the mountainside village where we tasted local coffee. Overall we saw over 20 different birds on the trip. Thanks for a great day!

          Epic experience!
Such an epic experience! We thoroughly enjoyed feeding, washing and playing with the elephants at the sanctuary. It was great to then go to Sticky Waterfall and have fun climbing up. Had plenty of time at both attractions. A great day thank you!

Magic of mountains and hillside tribes
Joe is a local who knows and loves the area—and who loves to share the area’s treasures. He took me to two birding hotspots where we saw some target birds and one rarity! The hike with the Karen guide through the mountains to her village was a delight.

I read the other reviews but I only got the generic tour of the Thai Silk Village building which was still very cool! You see the caterpillars munching on the mulberry leaves, the staff taking the dried cocoons and pulling the thread out, the dye station, and the weaving machines. That took 30 minutes. Then I weaved… for around 8 hours.
Everyone at the Thai Silk Village was so nice and took turns helping me. But I didn’t have a tour guide. The lady who generally walks the groups through the silk making process checked on me from time to time. For the most part, I was left alone. I was confused about how long I was weaving for and what I was weaving so I went slow. Then, I suddenly had to rush when the staff mentioned I was weaving a 1.8 meter scarf a few hours before closing. However, I liked practicing patience and appreciating the labor that goes into handmade products.
I’m not sure if weaving silk is very simple but I wish there was more to learn. Stuff like: How do you maintain the nutrition you provide the silk worms? Is there any importance of the dye colors in Thai culture? Are there various ways to weave silk? What are they and can we practice a few lines of each design in the class portion? Other questions I had couldn’t be answered because of the language barrier. With no one to talk to and nothing to learn after getting the hang of it, I regretted the trip.
If I could restart my day, I would have done the free guided tour at the Thai Silk Village and then explore another part of Chiang Mai. Maybe I would have liked it if I knew what time I was getting picked up in the morning, a general itinerary and an interactive tour guide that I could ask all my questions to.
I really did enjoy making the scarf! And the Thai Silk Village staff are absolutely wonderful so please visit them (and their really good quality gift shop)! But I had a very limited amount of time in Chiang Mai and I paid over $100 in hopes of a good quality day. Please make this experience worth the money people need to pay.

Hi, thank you for your suggestions. Payment 100$ but you get evaluated product made by yourself home. This is the way of weaving process should be if you don't like to sit and do weaving so long hours please inform us before. So we can looking for another activities matching your time. The information explains quite clear that you have to do weaving around 4-5 hours. However thank you for your suggestions we will improve our products to be better.

This outing was a great balance of learning and doing. We saw—first hand—the silk making process. We saw the plants growing, the life cycle of real silk worms, how the thread is created, and watched the weavers work. We then learned to weave ourselves. The project was complex enough to feel like a real experience, but relaxed and easy to accomplish. I appreciate that they let me choose my own colors, design my own pattern and make something (a short table runner) I will actually use at home.

We had a nice lunch and learned about other handicrafts in the area. Pick up and drop off was on time and easy.

I really feel prepared to weave again if I wish. Thank you!

While a little expensive, this was a great day out learning about how silk is produced and turned into thread. We then had great fun weaving our own table decorations, really enjoyable experience. Lunch filled us up nicely before finishing our weaving which we will proudly use on our dining table back home. Great that there was no hard sell to buy silk products but a bit disapointed by other craft shops we were introduced to which felt the opposite.

Nice informative silk workshop where you can get to see real worms. For the DIY project, you may choose your own product - scarf, bag, coaster, table runner. I chose the bag and it took about 3h with a lunch break. Therapeutic experience weaving, it is very fun if you are into such experiences! Joe was very friendly, punctual and informative.
