My partner and I went to Fah Lanna old town on February 19th. We have been coming to Chiang Mai in the winter for years and I had wanted to try this spa for a long time, one of the oldest and most beautiful in the city. I should point out that I have been studying and practicing Thai massage for years. We stopped by the evening before to book a 90-minute traditional Thai massage for the following day at 6:00 pm. The cost was much higher than the average cost of the same treatment in other massage centers, but the beauty and tradition of the place somehow justifies the higher price. I was very happy because the location was truly beautiful. Since we were told to show up fifteen minutes early, the next day we showed up at 5:45 pm. The atmosphere immediately became less charming. There were at least a dozen people waiting. They brought us a drink, the form to fill out and then “forgot” us there. The hall looked like a beehive. Everyone was late. At 6:10 pm, after waiting 25 minutes, we pointed out that we had to go to another appointment at 7:30 pm. At which point we were offered to change the massage from 90 minutes to 60. We had to accept because otherwise we would have been late for our next appointment. Let's just say we weren't very happy... Those who know Thai massage know that 60 minutes is not enough. It's a commercial compromise because not everyone wants to do 90 minutes. Anyway, yes, finally with a half hour delay they took us to the room where we would have our massage. I confirm the beauty of the structure. Sober, simple but elegant, with wooden floors that had become almost black due to the passage of time. A lady began to take care of my partner and a young man of me. My partner's massage was mediocre. Lazy, repetitive, 3/4 maneuvers repeated to exhaustion with unpleasant or too light pressure depending on the position the masseuse assumed). What about mine? Not voteable, unjudgeable. The boy had no idea what he was doing. Elbow planted on the spine (it was hurting me, I had to warn him that the first line was not there) Two hands on the shoulders (with long nails that dug into my skin) that were unpleasant claws. In my case too, the same 2/3 maneuvers repeated, badly, to infinity. I don't want to go on but I ask myself some questions. Are the spa managers aware of the quality of their masseurs? Because it's not the boys' fault that they don't know how to do a Thai massage. The fault lies with those in charge who do not train them, who throw them out there out of sheer greed, aware that most of the customers do not know this massage and, in fact, are delighted and find it picturesque to have an elbow planted on their spine. I would force the managers to receive 2 90-minute massages a day from their masseurs. But they do not care as long as they have a spa full of people. The one who pays the price is the Thai massage which is an art and does not deserve this sloppiness and pain. They should have respect for an excellence of their land.

I have been going here since 2018. Every year and this year it has changed..and is very disappointing.. New manager? More profit? I don't know..but many things have taken it from excellent to..Just a spa. When I arrived there was a guy paining the ceiling in the reception area..so the first impression was.. Fah Lanna doesn't care that some people come from far away to their spa. I selected an aroma for my oil massage, but a different one was used..not orange, bit mint scent. I had to ask many times to not be so strong on the grip during massage and this was a 3 hour treatment. Last..before you got a mango with rice as a thank you for a 3 hr treatment. Now they give you 2 dry crackers and a tea. You have to spend more 4000 baht to be thanked with a mango treat. It's sad the managers think these small changes don't matter, and they don't look to see the return customers always know and then don't return... very sad

Visited for a friends birthday. It’s a tranquil setting within the Old Town. The therapist Aom was incredible, skilled and attentive. Would 100% recommend and will be returning.

Really gorgeous spa. You're welcomed with a drink and snack and they give you some questions to answer. You can specify where you'd like to concentrate on and also how hard/light you'd like the massage to be. Our massage was at 7pm so it was in the evening and relatively quiet. I didn't realise we'd have the massage together - I expected separate rooms so keep this in mind if you book a massage with someone else. You'll have to specify if you want a separate room. The massage itself was fantastic, I felt so relaxed and light afterwards! My massage therapist was lovely and checked in numerous times to make sure I was okay. The only thing that slightly ruined the whole evening was at the end we were shouted at to hurry up and leave. The massage was 2 hours so we finished at 9pm. We took some time to shower the oils off our body and heard some knocking and one of the massage therapists quite harshly told us to hurry up. This was very different to how everyone else spoke to us, the other staff members were soft spoken, polite and kind. This made us feel a bit on edge and we rushed to leave. Once we were in the foyer again we were sat down to drink another drink - which made us confused about why we were rushed out. I think its to clean up the massage rooms - again this could've been communicated with us better. Overall a beautiful spot and worth it for a treat.

My husband and I really enjoyed our massages at spa treatments at Fah Lanna. Hom and Pont were excellent therapists. I had the Siam Herbal and my husband had the body scrub and bamboo massage. I would definitely recommend and return. It was such a relaxing experience!

This is my first time trying Thai massage and it doesn’t disappoint. I am so happy with my experience and the staffs are very helpful and kind.

The back massage was really good. It was a nice experience to have a big room to ourselves. The place looks really nice compared to the regular spas you can find anywhere in the world.

I’ve had many massages over the years but this is by far the best. The decor, aesthetics, the staff; everything. You have a choice of multiple treatment oils, complimentary drinks and just amazing staff. The best part was of the experience was the staff surprising both me and my partner with a birthday cake and a nice song without us even mentioning to them it was her birthday; it was very thoughtful and made the whole experience extra special. The value for money was also good! Not too expensive compared to normal massages around the world. I would for sure come back again!

From arrival to departure the team at Fah Lanna Spa ensure the highest quality of service. From hibiscus teas on arrival with chilled towels to ginger teas and cookies on departure. The hot oil massage was so amazing

Didn't like it, don't recommend it Worst massage of my life. For 2 massages I paid 250$, for 10$ on the street I had a better massage. They don't know how to give massages here, only stroking. I was given a little girl who barely did this strange massage, my daughter was given a big woman who was sweating and tired all the time, she had no strength and when asked to do a little stronger she said she couldn't and started to elbow on the vertebrae. I appealed to the administrator that we do not like the massage, but the administrator said that so weakly they do massage. We were given only 5 minutes for a shower. It was a waste of time and money and I only got a headache for 250$.

I hv bought the 2-hr service at us$60 at night bazaar shop on 24/12, but with the expensive price it is very disappointing and the service is not up to standard, and we don’t even get to use the bath. As a first time traveler to Chiang Mai, I chose this brand among all other shops but it turns out to be overpriced and even not good.

We were traveling through Chiang Mai for our honeymoon and a friend highly recommended we check out Fah Lanna, and I wish we could have gone every day! Out of the several spas we went to during our trip (and lifetime truly), this is hands down the best experience we’ve ever had. You get greeted with nice tea and cold towels, the steam room was unbelievable, the tea and snacks after were the cherry on top…and the services were impeccable. Everyone should experience this level of treatment, it’s superb!!
