- 1Mae Ping RiverStop: 3 hours - Admission includedWe start this short yet sweet excursion with a short transfer to the Chaimongkol docking area of an exhilarating 45-minutes cruise over the Mae Ping River. Chiang Mai life from the river takes on a completely new persona once you had a taste of the city. The Rose of the North’s Mae Ping River splits the modern part with the more local side where temples, old wooden houses and local communities still thrive. With modern times interspersed along the river banks, the overall colorful scenery and witness the lifestyle of the local people is something that has retained over time. The cruise ends with a visit to a local farmhouse with its own herbs, vegetables and fruit gardens. On the farm you observe yourself how the cultivation of jasmine rice and a variety of herbs for use both in medicine and cookery are tended to in traditional fashion. Guided by the local family, visitors truly get a feel and taste of how former generations infused their knowledge in the current farming life cycle. A selection of seasonal fresh fruit is there to be tried out in combination with the taste of lemon-grass and other herb juices. You should not leave Chiang Mai without tasting the local dish, Khao Soy, a smooth, spicy, noodle in curry soup. Return transfer from the farm to your downtown Chiang Mai hotel is included.Read more

Although we travel thailand for some years, we decided this time to start our trip with this guided tour, to "arrive" in Thailand after the long flight and not have to walk for that :-) We have not been disappointed. We were very lucky as only two other guests joined the tour and this was just start of season.
We had a relaxing trip with a longtail boat with our friendly guide, who explained everything we asked in quiet good english. The Farm outside Chiand Mai we drove to may look familiar to some, as it has been a filming location for one of the "Rambo" movies, we have been told... We still enjoyed the nice lunch (great Khao Soi!) at the quiet jungle restaurant at the river and had a relaxing trip back to our hotel.
Of course it is a touristic trip, but we enjoyed it a lot and the farm restaurant is worth a visit!

A very enjoyable boat ride up river and seeing the city fade into the rural areas north of Chiang Mai. Delicious lunch but a bit rushed at the ‘farm’. Bonus visit to a beautiful wat where the pier is located. Great value for the cost. If possible, sit near the front of the boat as the engine is very loud.

Loved going on the boat trip. Would definitely do it again. Could have used much more time at the 'farm' just to relax and poke around. The 'farm' was not what we expected. Thought we would have interaction with locals who would explain things to us but we still enjoyed it. While eating our lunch, we felt like we were in "Survivor". So cool. Good food. Just do it - you'll enjoy it.

This is the second time we have done this tour. The boat ride is quiet and peaceful. Lunch is delicious- khao soi and fresh fruit. The lunch stop includes an explanation of how different Thai herbs are used medicinally. Be sure to read the signs; the translations are hysterical!

We travelled on 22 Dec 2018 with a 9 year old and 11 year old children. This was a very relaxing half a day tour. Mae Ping River jetty is near to the old town. We had chosen the 10am boat tour. Hotel pick up around 9.45am but due to the traffic was a little heavy that morning, we reached the jetty about 5 10 mins late but it did not affect our trip at all.
Slow cruising along the Mae Ping river and along the way, with view of some vegetation and the guest house or hotel nearby the river. Though it may not be as scenic as other city boat cruise but just spend a quiet morning away from the city was a nice break. However, if there were some short intro on what we saw along the cruise will be good.
It took around 30~35 mins to reach to the farm house. There were some small animals eg. Rabbit and hens where the kids were more excited towards them. Also, the guide will introduce some fruit trees available in the garden to us. After that, we were served with a platter of mix tropical fruits which was cut and arranged very nicely on the plate, drinks and a bowl of Khaw Soi, non-spicy noodle soup with pork or chicken. Personally, I prefer chicken as it is more tender as compared to pork.
After the meal, the guide showed us some of the tools use for the paddy farming before the return boat trip. I would think it was a nice half day tour to sign up if you have a plane to catch at that evening and full day tour is not possible. Relax and calm river is a way to conclude and wind down your trip. We also appreciated the driver to drop us off at Art in Paradise after the boat trip so that we could explore the area before we go back to hotel. Yes, we enjoyed the trip and hope you keep up with the good work.

The boat ride was very calm and nice. The operator was a very nice guy. Caring and quite knowledgeable. He would quiet the engine to show us a certain bird or something intersection. Then he knew all of the trees and plants in the garden. We had a very nice time.

The boat trip on Mae Ping River was a highlight on our overall trip in Chiang Mai. The guy who took us there was very friendly and try his best to explain to us the scenery, the history along the river, the plants at the farm etc. We had a great time there! The coffee at the farm was good too.

Pleasant trip but not much to see - farm was interesting - Along the river there are only a few posh houses and hotels/restaurants but no temples or other things of interest.
Farm was interesting with the boat driver pointing out all the different tropical plants and trees.

Lovely way to spend a few hours. Shame about the annoying Dutch fella who nearly was sitting on my lap videoing the whole experience while missing the whole experience at the same time. He must be a very interesting vlogger. Great trip though 😃
