Bangkok’s Hidden Oasis : Explore Bangkok's Green Lung, Bang Krachao by Bike

By Sun Leisure World Thailand
Discover the cyclist’s paradise of Bangkok's green lung, Bang Krachao, with its seemingly endless elevated biking paths winding through fertile mangrove forests, small farms, quiet villages and Buddhist temples. Strict zoning and geography have protected its mangrove forests, coconut plantations and gardens from the urban sprawl of Bangkok making it into Bangkok’s Hidden Oasis. Pedal your way through back lanes and alleys to the ferry. Once you and your bicycle are across the Chao Phraya River in Bang Krachao, the real biking pleasure begins. Cycle quiet pathways at a leisurely pace where all you will encounter are birds, a few squirrels and maybe a lizard or two. Park your bike to visit a family at an old betel nut plantation for a snack, then check out a mangrove conservation area before pedaling on through the maze of tree-lined bike paths to a shrine to the Hindu God Ganesh before arriving at a local temple and market

The Ganesh Shrine Meandering away from the mangroves through villages and local Buddhist temples, stop to visit a Shrine to Ganesh, the Hindu god of beginnings and the remover of obstacles. Followers of his cult in Thailand have a established a lovely shrine to Ganesh in Bangkrachao. Wat Bang Namphueng Nok Coming to the end of the Bang Krachao trail we stop for a moment to visit the historical temple of Wat Bang Nam Phueng Nok and take some refreshments before we cross back across the Chao Phraya River.

A Room With A View in Hot Springs
I was here for work so I didn’t get much site seeing in, but the hotel did provide a list of good restaurants to eat at in the area. The gym is something I look for in hotels when I travel and they have a “good gym” (decent is having at least dumbbells up to 75 pounds with a pulley machine to at least give you some versatility). The breakfast area is a little lackluster for the overall look and feel of the hotel. The menu is also a bit sparse and a little on the expensive side for what it does offer. The room itself was fantastic! I had a room with a balcony view and it had a fairly good view of the marina. The bed was comfortable (pillows too soft), but the entire room was very spacious and clean. I needed to check out early due to finishing the job early and the hotel did initially penalize me for it, by charging me an early checkout fee (essentially a way of saying we’re charging you for a full night’s stay without saying that). The next day I was able to work it out with the general manager who refunded the fee.

      Highly recommend
We recently took a fantastic tour of Ayutthaya, which included a river cruise. Our guide, Holly, was wonderful—friendly and knowledgeable. We learned about Thai culture, including the Wai, and explored the rich history of the area. I highly recommend this trip!

      Ayutthaya Sunset Tour with Holly!
Our Ayutthaya Sunset Tour was an incredible experience! Holly, our guide, was not only friendly and engaging but also deeply knowledgeable about Thai culture and the histories of the temples. She made learning enjoyable by teaching us how to wai and sharing captivating stories about each site. The tour was perfectly paced, allowing us to fully absorb the beauty and rich history of Ayutthaya's temples. I highly recommend this enriching experience to anyone visiting Thailand!

      Pattaya Tour
Excellent day seeing the sights and landmarks of Pattaya. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable and gladly assisted in taking photos for all of us in the group. Perfect finish to day was seeing the Sanctuary of Truth, an amazing place. Thoroughly enjoyed our trip.

      Absolutely recommend
This is a great tour. Jom was a lovely guide, giving information but also space to wander at your own pace. The food on the boat cruise was simple and tasty and the local dancing was impressive. Thank you for a lovely trip.

A rejuvenating experience even for a beach hater.
Joined the whole-day trip to the 3 Khai islands with my younger sister hosted by the Thai Adventure Club. Fantastic journey albeit the “horrible” weather conditions of rainy and cloudy weather and somehow getting a sunburn. The enter journey was hassle free from start to end where they pick you up from the hotel and send you back to it at the end of the day. Throughout the trip, many refreshments and food were provided constantly. Had a wonderful time swimming, snorkelling where I got to see tons of fish and corals, and eating some scrumptious local delights. Idea and Joelle are exceptionally friendly and hospitable guides for this journey and I thoroughly enjoyed the conversations we shared despite the language barrier. Overall, I would highly recommend this company and this tour especially for the non-peak season of around July (this is the time I went) as the rain comes around 10/12 months of the year anyways so it’s very luck based. *Other information: I stayed in Patong and got picked up at 7:40am. I was given some noodles at the end of the trip before being sent back to the hotel at 5:35pm. If you stay for the whole day, there is this period on the island in the afternoon where there will be little to no tourists and with the breathtaking views, you can get some nice pictures before the floodgates begin again.

Chaophraya Princess Dinner Cruise is best among budget ones.
We booked Chaophraya Princess Thai+International dinner cruise thru ticket2attraction site. We opted for Upper deck with roof & to/from transfer hotel to cruise. Prepaid booking was smooth & we got to know later that our boarding pier has changed from Iconsiam pier to Asiatique pier. Read reviews in TA that the boarding is very poor & rushing, but our experience of boarding from Asiatique pier was quite good. Upon reaching pier, we got vouchers redeemed to boarding tickets from counter & they additionally gave us stickers to stick on our t shirts for immediate identification. All travellers opting for Indian cuisine were sent to Ground Floor deck & international cuisine to upper deck. We were given deck front table where we enjoyed both being under roof & open deck also. Only trouble was the loud live music which was at open deck area. Buffet started as soon as vessel left pier. There was some initial rush for food but we waited to clear the rush. The staffs were very prompt in refilling food & calmly took our food. Food can't be rated 5/5 but I will rate it average 3/5. They gave us welcome drink (fruit juice) also. The live band Female singer was good & tried her best to entertain the passengers. By God's grace there was no rain during the 2 hour cruise & we enjoyed the enlightened Bangkok from river. Rama 8 Bridge, Wat Arun, Grand Palace etc were all illuminated in night & really viewable. The smokers had to go to the rear of the vessel for open air smoking. Toilets were ok. Overall one should not miss this cruise while in Bangkok. We booked return van in our package & had the peace of worry free pickup & drop. We got a discount from ticket2attraction & it costed us approx 1248 Thai Baht per person incl transport.

Choose your own adventure, rats and a river ride
From start to finish, this was a very unfortunate and disappointing waste of time and money. When we arrived at the meeting point we were shown a menu for approximately 1 second and asked to quickly pick an item for 550 baht (an expensive side of meals for Bangkok) which would be prepared for us later on the trip. Then we were hurried into a hot shuttle bus and began our journey to Ayutthaya which our guide told us would be one hour. The guide didn’t talk at all during the bus ride, and the ride took closer to 2 hours with no updates on how close we were or introduction to the temples we were about to see. When we arrived at the first temple the guide spoke (very quietly) for approximately 2 minutes outside of the temple, snapped a few pictures of the group, and told us to return in approximately 20 minutes to the bus. The temple grounds were huge, and we wandered around as a scattered group without knowing what we were looking at. At one point I asked the guide what happened to many of the buddhas which appeared cut in half and she muttered: “fire”. As our 20 minutes neared an end we found some fabulous statues and ponds which were very interesting, but we didn’t have enough time to really see them or take pictures and we didn’t understand the significance. From this point, we traveled to a second site of interest – Wat Mahthat known for the famous Buddha head in the tree. At this temple, the guide didn’t give us a meeting point or timeline, quickly rushed us towards the head of the Buddha without explaining any other parts of the temple, snapped a few pictures of the group, and then disappeared. One member of our group was disabled relying on a cane to walk and felt incredibly frustrated to have the guide abandon her. Leaving Wat Mahthat our group miraculously found our bus and departed for the much-anticipated sunset boat/dinner cruise. Arriving at a restaurant on the river we felt hopeful as we walked towards an attractive docked boat equipped with dinner-style tables and beautiful wood siding. However just as we started descending the ramp our guide redirected us away from the boat into a small bleak room just above the dock. The room was bare with zero wall art or decorations and dingy windows that were partially blocked off with wood. In the stifling room, we were left to overheat while we wondered what would happen next. I asked the woman why we couldn’t eat on the beautiful boat and she explained it was too small, which was puzzling as the boat appeared quite large. As our mediocre food was served to us we ate in silence and another larger group arrived, filling the beautiful dinner boat, leaving only a small boat on the dock. As if it couldn’t get any worse, as we finished our food multiple members of our group saw a large rat run across the rafters. Finishing a disappointing dinner we were shuttled onto the small boat. The boat ride was beautiful and being on the river was refreshing, but the boat motor was quite loud, coming in at 96 decibels on my boyfriend's watch, and I was forced to plug my ears the entire ride. After about 15 minutes of enjoyable river, the boat pulled off to the side and we were let out at what I assume was Wat Chaiwathanaram, our final temple. Since our guide hadn’t explained anything the entire trip I took it upon myself to ask at this point what the significance of the temple was. Our guide quickly sputtered “The king made it for his mother” then she disappeared leaving the group once again to wander the temple grounds on our own. At this point, the disaster of the situation was quite hilarious, and my boyfriend and I walked around the temple making up our own history stories to explain the architectural highlights and decapitated buddhas. At the end of the evening, we considered taking a cab back to Bangkok but regretfully boarded back on the bus. Two hours later, after another silent bus ride, we were incredibly relieved to be back at the hotel. Overall this was a very disappointing day as we were both excited to learn the history of this amazing world history site. We felt cheated by the experience and sad that we had lost so much of our day.

      Highlight of my trip
Amazing trip to the war cemetery, bridge and train ride to the caves and great buffet lunch. Highly recommend requesting RACH as your tour guide, he was extremely helpful to not just me but other people. Pick up on time and dropped back to the hotel after the driver expertly navigated Bangkoks chaotic traffic 😂

Ivanhoe hotel do not cater food for allergies they treat you appallingly
We were treated in an appalling manner in the restaurant. We emailed ahead explaining allergies. We explained allergies again on arrival. We were asked what we wanted to eat then the manager eventually went to the kitchen. He came back and said you can't have that. Then proceeded to review the menu ruling out everything else we could not have. He refused adaptions so there was no starter. The main offered was boiled potato and turkey but no sauce nor gravy. We almost begged for gravy. We were told they could not make it without milk (our allergy). Then the manager when pressed said the chef would use a stock cube. We were made feel demanding asking for anything. We should have left. A small meal arrived after waiting 35 mins...still nothing of the 'gravy stock cube' promised. Eventually a small amount of something arrived which was gritty horrible and seemed to be a stock cube in hot water. I felt so upset dismissed and unwelcome. I was asked at the end by the waiter if all was well. I said no and explained. He went to the manager who ignored us and left us feeling worse. No-one cares despite putting on their website that they cater for allergies...they don't absolutely do not. They don't care about customers per se. We had to ask twice to obtain even a drink. Sunday is busy but this was after we explained our allergies they ignored us. Horrible experience. We paid and left never to return. Do not trust them with any dietary requirements is my advise.

      Very happy with our tour
The tour guide Donna was wonderful, and the river cruise with a lunch buffet exceeded our expectations. The bus was air conditioned and we were given plenty of water. Lots of opportunities for photos.

      Step back in time
An informative and moving experience. Seeing where and how the railway was built really bought home what life was like for the POWs. A small group so we had plenty of time at each attraction. Our guide Oom explained well how the day was set out. I enjoyed being on the train and would have liked more time or even a trip back on it, as it was wonderful travelling through the fields and countryside rather than the busy roads. Great for history buffs but also those wanting a cultural side to their Thai holiday.
