About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 1110shelly0 contributionsDisappointingTon, our guide was lovely and very knowledgeable about Buddhism, we learned a lot from him about Thai spirituality! We very much let down about the fact that we had one group member with allergies, we had warned the company and guide beforehand, and were reassured everything would be adapted. In reality we had to remind the guide about the severe allergies at every single stop, and often no adaptions were made, once leading to our group member having to spit out a bite… Unfortunately in general we did not feel the price justified the experience. The food was alright but not amazing, nothing we hadn’t tasted before in Thailand. In addition, we did not learn anything about food or food culture in Thailand. All in all, if it’s your first time ever in Bangkok you’ll have a nice time, but if you have any experience with Thai and Chinese food, you’re better off going on your own for a fraction of the price.Written March 13, 2025
- cflippen0 contributionsAn Unforgettable Experience! We enjoyed our Secret Food Tour with our incredible guide, Ton. We wandered through the alleys of Chinatown trying one local dish after another. Please note to come super hungry because you will be extremely full after you try all the delicacies raging from Duck Noodles,Chinese dumplings, Chicken and Basil, Spicy Papaya Salad Chicken and Pork Satays and so much more. Ton, not only explained each dish but gave us a deeper understanding of the area, traditions , culture, and the principals of Buddhism. We appreciated receiving a copy of his book that he co-wrote with a famous teacher of philosophy and Buddahism. His in-depth knowledge, friendly and professional personality, and delicious food offerings made it for an unforgettable experience.Written February 28, 2025
- Chops02890 contributionsGreat tour, highly recommend for anyone in BangkokJan was my guide and she was amazing. All the food stops were great and I felt like I got to try everything I wanted to without the nerves of picking the wrong place. I also enjoyed my time with Jan, learning about Bangkok lifeWritten February 28, 2025
- K3869HAjohng0 contributionsGreat for a groupOur group had a great time on our food tour. It was a great overview of Bangkok street cuisine. Highly recommend this tour because you get to taste things that are a bit more interesting. No pad Thai on this tour!Written February 25, 2025
- shannonmC878NX0 contributionsSo much fun!So yummy and so much food! Everything we tried was amazing, Jan knew everyone in chinatown as well as where the locals ate. Lots of fun new foods, my favorite was the michellin donutsWritten February 20, 2025
- Jim M0 contributionsAbsolutely amazing time! 100% recommendWe had an AMAZING time! Jan was terrific! She took us to places we never would have stopped at as tourists. She also introduced us to the culture of Bangkok giving the tour a richer and more meaningful context. We paid for a private tour (just two of us) and we were delighted in our experience. 100% recommend. We were celebrating my husband’s birthday and Jan made it very special - arranging for a “birthday dessert” and having the band play happy birthday for him at our last stop. It was magical. Thank you, Jan! You’re the best!Written January 27, 2025
- lindatG7071NY0 contributionsWonderful tour with SakRachasak Chantana (Sak) was an amazing food tour guide. He worked so hard to keep everyone happy, he really went out of his way. He took us to a great variety of different food tastings, it was a very interesting tour with a delightful group of people. Well done Sak. - craigwV9627JU0 contributionsGreat tour with excellent guideJan is an excellent tour guide, super friendly, very knowledgeable about the food and culture. Her English is very good and easy to understand. We have done other street food tour on our time in Bangkok and they do not compare to the secret food tour with Jan. Good photos We Did not feel rushed Excellent food choices Very accommodating with our family and children. If you do this tour ask for Jan, she is a very good guide and made our experience very smooth and a night to remember.Written January 8, 2025
- weezer04210 contributionsBangkok Private Food Tour with English Guide Jan was A+ Professional and Fun!We booked a private tour with Secret Food tours and our guide was Jan. This is my 2nd time using Secret Food Tours (Previously in Seoul) and this tour was just as wonderful in Bangkok. This company is professional, prompt communication from booking with complete details where to meet. Our guide, Jan spoke perfect english, was energetic and very informative food guide. We tried not only Thai cuisine, but a mix of many unique asian foods. I asked a ton of questions about the culture and food of course, and Jan happily answered. I This tour included 10-12 stops with huge portions, and we were so full by the time the tour was over! Jan took a took tons of photos along the way for us, and provided the names of all the dishes we tried. I asked a few questions about Iced thai tea (which was not part of the tour) and Jan made a special stop to her favorite tea shop so I could try some (and get assistance ordering) + we even got hands on food prep at one stop to prepare a fresh papaya salad. Wow! **Tip- I recommend booking as early in advance. December is a very busy time and book up quickly. Especially private tours! Don't delay.Written January 5, 2025
- Sarah W0 contributionsGreat food tour of Bangkok ChinatownGreat food tour of Bangkok Chinatown and a few cultural tidbits along the way! We tried so many stops and all were delicious. Definitely places we would not have tried on our own and all the food was cooked to order and there was no concern about it not being safe to eat. Jantira was a great tour guide and made sure everyone on the tour was comfortable and had items they could eat. Left full and happy!Written December 22, 2024
- mauritsdegraeff0 contributionsGreat tourAmazing tour with the highlight the Mango Salad. Jiab was an amazing tour guide offering a few extras on the way. Jain has great knowledge of the area and history. We will do it again but unfortunately we are leaving Bangkok for our next destinationWritten December 19, 2024
- 988olivert0 contributionsA special kind of food walking tour with JanMeeting point MRT meeting point 2 p.m. Everyone was on time and Jan had water for everyone. Very attentive! We were 3 interested people who were looking forward to walking & food. Unfortunately, one participant was walking so slowly that walking was practically impossible! After the first food stop, the lady decided to take the tuk tuk to the next station. The group was totally torn and Jan did her best to accommodate everyone... that was a challenge! At the second station we didn't meet the woman again, even though Jan tried everything. Overall, it was a great food tour through Chinatown with 8 stops. So incredibly delicious, flavorful and authentic! Highly recommended and Jan was great! Thanks for the experience :-)Written December 16, 2024
- FellowTraveler1709000 contributionsVery enjoyable food experienceGreat experience and highly recommended. Jan was an excellent guide, enthusiastic and informative. There was plenty of food so make sure you’re hungry. Having a local insight helped find food we definitely wouldn’t have found ourselves. We chose the private tour as we had booked a bit late and had a big group. It was a touch expensive, but overall I think worth it.Written December 10, 2024
- Lufkintx0 contributionsDefinitely book! Our guide, Chantana, was EXCELLENT! Our group of 10 very much enjoyed this food tour. We got the perfect taste of Chinatown and enjoyed each stop! Chantana was so nice to everyone and spoke great English. She ensures that each person in your group gets the attention they deserve and no one feels left out. She is a super sweet soul and you will NOT be disappointed with her. Definitely book this tour and ask for Chantana!Written November 23, 2024

Having previously booked a food tour in another city, I booked directly again with Secret Food Tours without hesitation due to previous excellent experiences. This tour was great, but not quite excellent. Our group was small with six guests in total, and our guide Sak was a friendly young chap who kept things moving quickly and dealt with a few unexpected issues well.
To give a summary of the tour and the experience - the value was excellent, the quality and variety of the food was excellent and there was plenty to eat (even when sometimes sharing dishes). One of the main benefits of this tour is that there is very little waiting in queues in the busy Chinatown - you get the rockstar treatment and taken to an empty table right in the centre of each restaurant that magically appears amongst the surrounding chaos of a busy service.
As a group I think we all had a good time, and had easy conversation between us - myself from the UK, a female solo US traveller, a couple from the US, and a couple from Sweden. It was good fun for the three+ hour tour.
Sak interspersed the tour with historical information about some of the religious templates along the route, but whilst this was fairly interesting, my constructive criticism is that as a food tour I would have preferred to hear more about how Bangkok’s history brought in food influences from different cultural communities and how the culinary scene has evolved over time.
Otherwise all very good and I’d recommend to others. Eat lightly beforehand!

Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed review. We appreciate your feedback about the historical insights versus food history. While we love sharing a bit of cultural context along the way, we understand that a deeper dive into the evolution of Bangkok’s food scene would add even more to the experience. This is something we’ll definitely take into account as we continue refining our tours.
Thanks again for your recommendation, and we’d love to welcome you on another Secret Food Tour in the future!

Excellent tour to experience the hidden food gems of Bangkok. Jan was an excellent tour guide and we had the opportunity to sample local dishes while exploring the city. By the end of the tour, everyone on the tour left satiated due to the variety and portions of dishes served. I would definitely recommend this tour for someone who likes great food, great company, ( you will make friends on this tour), and a great tour guide.

We joined a group tour led by Tem. She was so knowledgeable about the local history and food and we had a wonderful time walking around the city and trying delicious food. Tem worked so hard to ensure that everyone in the group was included and had food that they enjoyed which made the atmosphere really welcoming. There was a great range of dishes including classics like som tum salad and prad krapow. There was potentially too much food which made it difficult to finish some dishes towards the end but everything was delicious. Tem also took the extra step of helping us organise transport back to our accommodation which made us feel extra safe.

The experience was amazing! Ms. Goffy was like a “mother hen;” she kept our group in line and together amid the crowds celebrating the Chinese New Year. That was quite a feat in itself. She managed to remember all of our names, and she made accommodations for one participant who was a vegetarian. She was attentive and considerate; I felt that we were fortunate to have her as our guide. She helped me and my daughter find transportation back to our hotel and we were very grateful for that.

2nd time taking this tour, first time was about 18 months prior.
I had actually tried to postpone going on the tour as I was unwell, but when contacting the company they wanted to charge me 50% to move a few days later.
So I dosed myself up and pushed on through. Though the experience has soured me to the company.
On the other hand Jan my guide for the evening was fantastic, and gets all the ⭐️ , turns out I was the only one on the tour, Jan was my guide the first time so was nice to catch up, she took my condition into consideration and moderated the tour accordingly, we wrapped up earlier and I did not partake in everything, but had a nice evening, like catching up with an old friend.
If you can get Jan as a guide, she won’t steer you wrong, she normally takes the later tours, and if you want to know where to grab a drink later she will help you out.

This food tour is a must and was the highlight of our trip! Jan, was absolutely fantastic and made the experience one we’ll never forget. Her deep knowledge of Bangkok’s street food scene was impressive, and she clearly has a true passion for the city’s food culture.
Jan took us to an incredible variety of local spots, each offering unique and mouthwatering dishes. We got to try flavors we would have never discovered on our own, from spicy street snacks to indulgent sweets. She also shared history facts of Bangkok, which made it all the more special.
What really set this tour apart was Jan’s personal touch. She made sure everyone felt comfortable, answered all our questions, and even shared tips for other places to visit. Her enthusiasm and love for her city were so evident—it felt like we were exploring with a friend who genuinely wanted to show us the best of her home.
If you’re in Bangkok, don’t miss this tour! It’s the perfect way to dive into the city’s vibrant food scene with an expert guide who truly makes the experience unforgettable. Thank you, Jan, for an incredible evening!

My son booked this tour for us as a surprise and it was great. We had Chantana as our guide and she was excellent - funny, informative, helpful - a real delight. She took us to some streets that we would not have ventured into - to taste some most wonderful street foods. In fact a few of the street food we tried were better than an upmarket Michelin rated restaurant. So overall, we would highly recommend this tour.

Our tour guide, Syl, took us mainly around Chinatown and we stopped at 10 different food spots. All of the food tasted great and she also provided interesting facts about the shops, the people behind and the food by itself.
My personal favorite was the papaya salad which we enjoyed at an improvised shop because unfortunately their restaurant burnt down a few days earlier. The salad was very delicious.

Jan was incredible, so lovely and insightful. She shared so much information about the history and culture of the food we were eating. We felt truly welcomed in every place we sat down. Jan felt like she was our friend showing us around her home, it made the whole experience amazing . The food was delicious, we tried so many new dishes. We went home with full happy bellies, so make sure you come hungry. There's some short walks between meals so it doesn't feel like too much. This was by far our favourite night in Thailand, all thanks to Jan <3

Hi there, can you please let me know what time this tour starts and finishes? We have a 1.5 year old baby will it be suitable? Dp u travel by tuk tuk or taxi? Thanks
Written December 11, 2019
We started our tour at 1700. There was a lot of walking, it was warm, and not many places had AC. Depending when you booked the tour (weekday vs. weekend) the crowd of people would not be conduce to your baby. I would not recommend taking a baby on this tour.

Hi there quick question I would like to know if possible to have an alternative for the dishes that contains fish or seafood as I’m allergic ?
Written November 18, 2018
Idon't know the answer but given the wide variety of dishes on display I would be surprised if the organisers could not assist you.
Suggest give them good notice to make sure !
