Co Van Kessel 3 hour bike tour
Wow what can we say an amazing must do! We have been lucky enough to have done various tours all over the world and this is absolutely in the top 3! Pam was very knowledgeable and friendly and we felt safe at all times. Even in the crazy traffic of Bangkok!

    Great experience
This was my husband's favorite part of our amazing 3 weeks in Thailand! I personally like to refer to it as a knarly experience and I also enjoyed it even though I'm not as comfortable on bikes. Narrow alleys, riding with motorbikes, etc. but still not dealing with busy streets. We got to see several markets and I especially loved the fortune experience at the Wat. Ling Ling was a great guide and we would highly recommend this tour company. We did the 3 hour tour.

    TRULY AMAZING... THANK YOU MIMI!!
THANK YOU MIMI!! Amazing tour of Chiang Mai... ours was the shorter tour which took us through parts of the old city, visiting many interesting temples, the morning Market, and lots of other places. This is a very easy ride On very comfortable bicycles that sit very upright. I'm 64 years old, and it was a very easy and comfortable ride over 100% flat surfaces, with several rest stops. Definitely not to be missed. We took the morning tour which is from about 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. There's an afternoon tour that is somewhat longer and goes to different locations. I definitely plan to take that one as well. These are not to be missed. Mimi is a great tour guide who is completely fluent in English and has loads of information about every place the tour goes. And just in case you're going to Bangkok on your trip, do not miss the Bangkok ABC tour. Even more spectacular! Have fun!

Very good tour. Inspiring and giving lots of insights
It was a very interesting, easy and inspiring tour. 2 markets visits, few Temples, silversmith workshop and a break with few snacks. Mimi, the tour guide was very knowledgeable, with good English, able to answer many questions and telling stories all the time! Easy to ride too - don't be afraid if you're not a pro! they choose the simple and quiet roads only. Huge Point to improve - snacks and drinks during the break - for such HIGH price (yes, it's VERY HIGH price for Thailand, especially knowing the food costs) they could have more drinks, fruits and higher quality (we had chips, few passion fruits and few rice cakes - 10 Baht per person maximum)

Highly Recommended Chiang Mai City Tour
Loved this bike tour! Mimi, the Van Kessel guide, was a delight. She does indeed get you off the beaten path in the neighborhoods and markets you visit and does an excellent job of explaining the culture and traditions of this lovely city.

Relaxing and pleasant bike tour through Chiang Mai.
Great way to discover Chiang Mai! Very easy and family friendly tour with stops at the local market, temples and for snacks. It was fun to just peddle through all the different neighborhood and watch people go about their day. Lots of information about life and culture. Perfect timing in the morning, so not so hot and perfect pacing for a relaxing experience. Thank you to Mimi for your kindness and patience as well as our 2nd guide who made sure the street crossings were safe!

A must-do tour when in Bangkok!
That was a really great tour! We only missed some more general tour info about the city, as it was our first day in Bangkok and would have appreciated some interesting facts, tips etc. Other than that, totally worth it and fully recommended!

Very unique way to see Bangkok at night
Very sweet tour guide. She smiled a lot but was quite difficult to understand. She spoke very fast with a strong Thai accent. I enjoyed touring the back alleys where no tourists are seen however it was very dark in some areas and difficult to negotiate tight turns. A person must be very comfortable on a bike. I enjoyed going to the Chinese temple and learning a little about the customs. I also enjoyed the exotic fruit and street food that we sampled. The flower market was amazing but I would have liked some explanation rather than just riding through. Seeing the city at night was beautiful and very different from the busy daytime. We were 8 people on the tour. We were not asked to introduce ourselves or where we were from at the beginning of the tour. Doing this is always a good idea to create a sense of camaraderie within the group. I have taken many cycle tours around the world . I enjoyed it but it wasn’t amazing.

    Little Value for Money
The guides were pleasant and informative. However, there is not a lot to see and little value for money. Given that we booked the 4-hour tour including food experience it was a little disappointing that the first food stop was a packet of crisps, the second was a market with a fried banana and a piece of fruit. The dinner was OK in quantity but compared with other street food experiences in Thailand, rather medium quality. On average not great value for money when compared with other tours in Thailand.

    5 hour bicycle/boat tour
Despite the early start, we really enjoyed this tour. While the tour is over 5 hours, we only spent about 1.5 hours cycling. The boat tour was a lovely way to see some more of Bangkok, we enjoyed seeing the contrast in the buildings as we travelled along the river. The cycle along the plantations was delightful and we really enjoyed the meal at the restaurant before we returned to the city centre.

    Outstanding
It was a fantastic and informative ride. Our guide was very good. His name is North, a real gem. I must say the city of Bangkok is beautiful and the people there are priceless. The ride showcases all this in a short time and Chinatown is a must see. I must add if you are an inexperienced cyclist, the tight corners and dark alleys can be quite challenging. My partner and I loved every minute of this tour. Highly recommend.

    Amazing!
Amazing cycling tour around completely hidden parts of Bangkok that you’d never normally see if on your own. Felt completely safe the whole time and the tour guides were amazing and very informative. Would recommend to everyone!

The ride through the back alleys and markets in "less visited" areas of Bangkok was fun, but if you are looking for an educational tour with experienced guides, this may not be for you. The tour primarily consisted of following the guide in a line of bikes. While we stopped a couple times, there was not much information given about the places where we stopped. If you just want a nice ride through narrow alleyways and places you would not normally ride a bike through, you may enjoy this, but if you are looking for more history, cultural context, or information in general, you may want to pick a different tour.

This was exactly the kind of tour that I wanted - something that wasn't a show of tourist spots but rather an exploration of bangkok. We made a couple guided stops, otherwise a lot of this was taking back alleys/roads around the city, which was fantastic. Guides were very nice and helpful - really the only comment I have is that I wanted to see more (which they have longer/alternate tours!). Highly recommended!

A great bike tour around Bangkok. I was a little worried before it started that the tour would stop and start too much, but there was a good amount of riding throughout the city without stopping, going through backstreets and off the beaten track roads which made the tour really interesting. Eve and Ellie were fantastic, couldn't fault them. Would definitely recommend!

Our guides Pie and Art were great, friendly and knowledgeable. We did the 8am three hour tour and with hindsight, think that was probably a good decision as it was not so hot and the streets, alleys and, market places were not so busy. We've been to Bangkok many times, but certainly got to see parts of the city that we would never find on our own. The bike ride is definitely worth three hours of your time.

Me and my girlfriend both did this tour on our last day in Bangkok and it ended up being the highlight of the stay.

Both the local tour guides, Ling Ling & Shy (sorry about spelling) were super friendly and the bikes were comfy and easy enough to use, even in some of the narrow streets and markets that the tour takes you down.

We both loved it and would highly recommend to anyone wanting to see the older, less built up side of Bangkok in a unique and inexpensive way.

I did the 9 hour tour. Our guides were very nice people, and I also enjoyed getting to know the other people on the tour. However. I think the tour would be better on foot. I felt like I couldn't take in the scenery because I was too focused on not falling. Most of this tour was on narrow raised sidewalks with potholes and bumps. The raised sidewalks can be as high as 5 feet off the ground. The risk of falling is very real. I fell headfirst into a ditch. Thankfully my fall was absorbed by a bush and I didnt break anything. I'm not new to biking. I comfortably bike down steep single track mountain trails as well as on city streets. I would have felt much more comfortable on a good mountain bike. But more so, I would have loved to have been on foot so I could have more time to interact with all we saw. We certainly weren't zooming through the path given how careful everyone had to be, so walking may have been just as fast, and probably more fun.

Did the 5 hour tour with the bike and boat. Great trip, really not to miss when in Bangkok. Maybe a bit pricey at 2.000 baht but really worth it if you want to see something else than the typical tempels. You will visit one temple (can wear shorts) and the rest is all city streets, small narrow streets and nature. Great tour gide as well.

This was definitely the highlight of your time in Bangkok! We started the morning meeting our guides for the day, Cookie and Anna, and setting up the bikes before heading off. Bikes were in great condition and comfortable to ride for a few hours. The first thing we did was cycle and walk through the back streets and morning market of China Town which was just so cool. You really get to see the local people's lives and they greet you with a smile every time. The market was hectic but amazing to walk through, all the smells and colours really remind you you're in South East Asia. We then continued along the river to Wat Kalayanamit Woramahawihan before hopping on a longtail boat with our bikes for a nice and relaxing ride to the outskirts of the city. This was so peaceful and relaxing, really adds to the amazing experience of the tour. We docked the boat at another temple and unloaded the bikes and started making our way through the village and it's rice fields, coconut plantations and other fruit plantation. Really cool experience. After this we hopped on the boat again to go to our lunch spot on the water. Lunch was various delicious home cooked meals we all shared, with vegetarian options available on request. Once we finished lunch we hopped back on the boat again to ride back to the office and finish the tour.
We can't recommend this tour highly enough, it was absolutely great. Definitely try and book the early morning one as the temperature is still nice and streets and market on not too busy yet. Thanks for the great experience Co van Kessel and Cookie and Anna specifically!

I took the three hour tour through Bangkok. The tour takes you through Talad Noi, China Town and over a bridge into Thonburi. They go for 95% through small alleys, market streets etc, and stop at two temples and in a park.
Is it worth it? If you are short of time, the tour can give you a glimpse of a part of Bangkok that on foot would take you much longer to explore. It is also a "different experience" to go around on a bike.
But I felt at times a bit uncomfortable biking with a group of 10 people past what looked like people's "backyards" and peaking into people's homes. The people who live in these small alleys are not the ones who are better off - having a group of (rich) tourists come by everyday to see how they live is a bit voyeuristic. If you explore alone on foot, you can more easily follow your instinct and go back (or stop) whenever you want. The same for the markets: there were instances where I felt it inappropriate to drive on our bikes among people who were doing their shopping in what are already too narrow alleys.
As for me personally, I had explored those parts of Bangkok already on my own on foot, and did not see anything new.
By design, the guides hardly explain anything (as the company's website also says), but i felt that some explanation here and there (who lives in the arears we bike past?, where do these people work?, are these specific communities?, are there differences between all the chinese-looking shrines?...) would have been really the interesting part.
I understand also that if you take the 5 hour or the 9 hour tour, the part you do in the three hour tour is included in these as well. Therefore I debated whether I should take the longer or the shorter tour. I was glad I took the shorter (3 hours) one.

Hi, thank you for your lengthy and interesting feedback. Great to hear your point of view, and from a cultural point of view understandable. However, one of the biggest pillars of our philosophy is taking care of the communities. As we have been cycling the same neighborhoods for over 20 years we built a great relationship with all communities involved. The day that we won't be welcome anymore or unwanted would be the day we stop passing by. AFter months of covid lockdown, we were welcomed back with open arms and told numerous times how much they missed us passing by (see video on our Facebook). In other parts of the world, cycling through 'houses' and markets would be indeed considered less appropriate, which is what makes traveling so interesting. Hoping this slightly helps your uncomfortable feeling, and perhaps to welcome you back on our 5 hour bike/boat tour, which spends some more time in less busy parts of Bangkok.

We did the 3 hour bike tour from 8am-11am and it was a great activity for the climate in Bangkok. The bike staff were kind, knowledgable, and took great care of the safety of the group. It was quite the adventure to navigate through the narrow back streets and on the actual streets of the city. Highly recommend if you are a new visitor to Bangkok.
