One to tick off your list, but once you are on board you are locked in for a perusal of 99 things you would never ordinarily buy!
That said, a bit of fun, if a little murky and we only paid for 45 minutes to whizz around, which I can assure you is more than enough time unless you are hopping off for a bite to eat in the main section (which is possible). Double up with the train market (do that one first) and it is a full morning done outside of Bangkok.....
That chap in my review picture sums up the enthusiasm unless you want to buy!!

Dear Bakes1 Reviews such as this one from your side are seen as personal views of a tradition that has been a part of the Thai culture since the beginning of the Kingdom. The grounds of the Danmern Saduak Floating market are old and have been the base of what is now seen as one of the country’s must-see landmarks. Of course, we sincerely apologize that you and your travel companions did not enjoy the floating market based on the overly present commercial factor. It is with many bucket list landmarks across the globe that buying souvenirs and reminders of a visit to a destination is part of the experience. We appreciate your positive view on the Maeklong Railroad market as a positive light during your Thailand visit. It has certainly added value to how our customers see and experience Thailand. With kind regards Asian Trails Thailand

There are a lot of bad reviews about this. Yes they try to sell you things, and yes they hook your boat but you are not obliged to buy and a friendly no thank you does the trick. Just be open minded and smile and enjoy the scenery. Try to spot a goanna in the quiter parts of the waterways and get your longboat captain to turn it up. Good fun overall.

Dear Vacatio Thank you very much for your honest and personal experience visiting the Damnern Saduak Floating Market. Taking up its own spot as must-see around Bangkok, it is an institution that certainly is not left aside when first-time explorers enter the Kingdom of Thailand. We wholeheartedly support and agree with your review to look it from this perspective and see that there is indeed a bit more than meets the eye. The right perception on Damnern Saduak, located outside Bangkok, is a good starting point to see the hereditary story behind its existence. It has been our sincere pleasure showing you this landmark in Thailand’s vast list of must-sees, and we’re looking forward showing you (much) more in the near future. With kind regards Asian Trails Thailand

The floating market is everything that it looks like and was a good experience. There were vendors selling gifts and food on boats, but there was no place to throw your rubbish after.

Hired a private car to bring us to the floating market, but was brought to a boat hire approximately 500m upstream from the market instead. At this boat hire, they hardsold private boats at THB2000 per boat and did not allow group sharing with other tourists (1st sign of a scam). Not wanting to miss out visiting the floating market, we ultimately agreed THB 1000 for a 45min boat trip. We only found out later that you could drive to the market and take a boat from the market itself for only THB 100.

I hope that no one else gets scammed by these private boat hires.

Complete rip-off, your driver will take you to a boat tour place nearby the markets for a tour of floating markets which was fine but that's when it all goes south. They will ask for a stupid amount of money for a 1 hour boat tour ($3k Baht) which includes nothing unless you barter or closer to argue with them. Then when the boat tour begins the driver will go slow past every shop putting you in the awkward spot of saying no a million times to everything they have to sell. Our driver cut the engine and stopped the boat completely at his friend's and family's shops and made us stay there for what felt like forever as we had to just sit there and politely repeat ourselves over and over and over again that we weren't interested.

The tour went for less than an hour and honestly, that was probably the best part as we did not enjoy any of it. We tried hard to be positive throughout the tour despite the feeling that the whole thing is just a massive tourist scam but at the end of the day it was just a massive tourist scam and it does piss you off. The boat ride never got any better, you honestly end up just boating around these rubbish-filled canals for 3/4 of the time. We have been in Thailand 10 days throughout Phuket and Bangkok and it's the first bad experience we've had. You live and you learn but I certainly didn't want to buy the plate with a picture of us on it to remember the experience by that they try extremely hard to flog you at the end of the tour lol.

It takes a long time to go there, people are not friendly, it is over priced and what is really annoying is the huge number of useless shops! They are selling the same stuff you can find anywhere in Bangkok, for a crazy price! I have followed the recommendation from our hotel because I didn't know this one but I have been really disappointed. It's definitely a NO GO!

I have never written a review but will be writing several because of my trip to Thailand/ Cambodia. The rest of the reviews are amazing but this was the one thing I wish I could have skipped. We hired a taxi to take us from Bangkok, and was told upon arrival it would be 1000 baht for him to wait for us (as you need a Bangkok drivers license to return to Bangkok by taxi). Then it costs another 1000 (maybe 1500 I can't quite remember) to even get in the boat... then they drive you to each stall but all of the merchandise is 3 times the price you will find in Bangkok. My advice (if you are interested) would be to take a river tour in Bangkok and hit up Chinatown for some GREAT deals. The whole excursion cost more than the Phi Phi islands day trip we took in Phuket (which is SO worth the money btw).

I enjoyed this market alot, you go there, get in a boat and tool around the area, you can stop, shop and even buy things and great food from other boats passing by. Lots of tourists but it was very unique and I have not seen a place like this in all of my travels. Great food too and many colorful photo ops too. I enjoyed it. It is worth the time to go seek it out out of Bangkok and to also pair it with a tour of the railway nearby with the market there too. I loved it.

Dear finesilver Such a joy to read how thoroughly you’ve enjoyed the Damnern Saduak Floating Market. The authentic vibe, the hustle and bustle of an institution of how commerce was driven a century ago are key elements of how once the waterways were used for bringing good to the customers and how customers interact with traders from across the region. It is great to read that there are lots of photo opportunities you’ve found around the floating market. We’re happy to read you’ve had a great time with our guide on this venture outside of Bangkok. We appreciate your positive view on the Damnern Saduak as a positive light during your Thailand visit. It has certainly added value to how our customers see and experience Thailand. Dear HelsBel Thank you very much for your honest and personal experience visiting the Danmern Saduak Floating Market. We do regret reading that this visit was not up to your expectations and, according to your review, incomparable with the floating markets in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta. Thailand’s most famous floating market forms an essential part of must-sees for visitors to Thailand. The market’s popularity has indeed seen a change in sales opportunities, yet the concept has retained its original set-up. We completely understand that you made a comparison with previous floating markets and that this visit has been a disappointment has been noted. We profoundly hope that our Asian Trails execution of the tour has been a satisfactory one, were guide and transportation services exceeded expectations. With kind regards Asian Trails Thailand

Dear maltsters Reviews such as this one from your side are seen as personal views of a tradition that has been a part of the Thai culture since the beginning of the Kingdom. The grounds of the Danmern Saduak Floating market are old and have been the base of what is now seen as one of the country’s must-see landmarks. It is unfortunate to read that the views are inaccurate and that this has been a legacy in the Ratchaburi province for generations. Of course, we sincerely apologize that you and your travel companions did not enjoy the floating market. Our interest in showing visitors this institution, 100 kilometres outside of Bangkok, is on the forefront of our operations since our inception in 1999. It is truly unfortunate that your impression has been dissatisfactory and we wholeheartedly agree that the market has been a key attraction for tourism. We of course, as a reputable and responsible company, will inform all concerned about your experiences We appreciate your positive view on the Maeklong Railroad market as a positive light during your Thailand visit.
