We spent the day in a private cooking class with Nilam and her younger sister Nishma. First and foremost, these girls are destined for big things... they have tremendous personalities and are both talented in the kitchen! If they created a YouTube channel, I imagine they'd be an instant hit.

As far as the experience goes, it was a nice change of pace, as others have described in their reviews. The major highlights were being able to mix and match dishes from their 4 menus, highlighted by the chocolate momos! Who knew those were a thing?! The chicken curry was delicious and we have since tried to make a rendition of it, stateside, which fell short of our batch made with Nilam and Nishma's assistance.

For the price you pay, spending a few hours with Nilam (request Nishma, too!) is totally worth it. I hope someday, I am scrolling through TV channels and see the sisters representing Nepal on the Food Network or as YouTube sensations, they deserve it! They've got a powerful story and supporting them and their cause is incredibly worthwhile!!!

Fellow Everest Base Camp trekker David and I much enjoyed the class on June 1, cooking 4 courses, including dahl, Nepalese pancake, carrot cake and the famous momos, thanks to our friendly teacher. I bought the $50 bag of spices, about equivalent to the cost in Australia, but all ready to use at home with the recipes emailed later. Thank you!

I loved this class! The volunteer teachers Reecha and Neelam made me feel very welcome. Reecha in particular brought lots of energy and a sense of humor. The facilities are clean and ingredients fresh and yummy. Unlike lots of experiences in Kathmandu, I didn't feel like they were trying to overcharge me or upsell me on anything. I felt like I was a guest in their home.

First we walked to a produce market, spice store, and bakery; then we took a rickshaw back; then we spent about four hours cooking and eating. I did menu #3 vegetarian: masala tea, thukpa (noodle soup), dal baht (lentil curry and rice with ghee), cauliflower curry, and chocolate momo. We tried two kinds of momo shapes and I was not so good at them, but that's my fault. The curries were perfect for a cold January day. Give this a try! It's worth it.

Whilst we enjoyed cooking all of our 4 courses (chatmari, dal bhat, chicken curry, chocolate momos), we couldn't help but feel that the cooking course felt rushed. We had a 4:30pm session which finished at 6:30pm (despite their website stating that it would take 3 hours 30 mins!). The host was good at explaining each step, but more time to enjoy eating the food would have been appreciated.

Additionally, we felt that the sale of the spices for 5,000 rupees was quite pushy! It had been mentioned several times whilst going to the market, and we could sense that the host was disappointed that we were not interested in buying the spices (we were flying home the following day and had tight luggage weight restrictions!). 5,000 rupees also seemed expensive for what was being offered!

After noting a sense of tone after we said no to the spices, we also noted that we were offered no change from our payment. We would have likely tipped more than this discrepancy if we hadn't have felt rushed and pressured throughout the cooking course.

Apart from the experience described above, we did enjoy cooking a variety of dishes. The session worked well with having a host as well as a chef to help guide us, finish off any preparations and to clean up as we went along. The recipe book, which was emailed to us the day after the class, included lots of different recipes that we are excited to try cooking at home.

The OK and the less good. The advertisement said that we would go to the market and learn about buying the right food for the cooking lesson. We would walk there and take a rickshaw back. The "market" turned out to be a local store a few minutes away. The cook gave the women in the store a shopping list and within a few minutes she walked away with a small bag of an assortment of vegetables. There was no learning about the foods in the local market. There was no rickshaw back. There was a brief visit to a spice shop which was a not too subtle way of trying to get me to buy spices, again with no learning experience. This all was the less good.

The actual cooking lessons were OK. The cook was very nice, though the cooking itself was very basic. Overall, I enjoyed the session but they should cut out the sales pitches for tips which was intertwined within and the market visit which was not a market visit.

The chef will walk you to a nearby market where you will shop for local ingredients which really adds a lot of fun to it.

The recipes are easy to understand, and very tasty. I couldn't recommend this more, just remember to come hungry because you will be making a lot of food.

The host had a very professional manner, but I felt the class was a bit rushed. I was asked several times if I wanted to buy spices to bring home. As they were not commercially produced for one thing I couldn’t and they were very expensive. I was disappointed at the end as I was not taken back to the pick up point being the hotel, but was left at the door and a vague direction was given to find my own way back.

What a fun activity! Our instructor, Nilam, was excellent. She took us shopping for ingredients, a rickshaw ride back, taught us all about the ingredients and what to do with them. If you like to cook, are just curious about the Nepalese food, or just need a change of pace from exploring, I would highly recommend this!

The class was super informative and just a really enjoyable experience. The staff was incredibly helpful, patient, and made the class really fun. A must visit when in Kathmandu, I really learned a lot and will cook these things again at home!!! Would recommend this to anyone of any level, I enjoy cooking but I’m definitely not the best and the staff make it very easy to follow and pick up. Don’t eat before you go!!! The food is so delicious, you will definitely not want to waste any of it. If you’re considering taking a class, 100% do it, one of the highlights of my trip :)

I loved the experience, being able to join the local market to buy raw goods and spices. The experience was both social and the food was delicious. They explained everything so well, and send the recipes to all participants afterwards for us to be able to make it when we go back home.

The experience was not only good because of the food, but because of the organisers and how they made us feel welcome in Kathmandu. I will recommend it to anyone going to Nepal for the first time.
