About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 198clarar0 contributionsGreat Company- amazing people!I was invited to Nepal for a work event and only had four days to visit the country With lots of flexibility, considering my interests and time constraints, Raj and his team organized a simply amazing four-day trip for me. From the narrow streets of Patan and the cultural nuances of Kathmandu's Hindu and Buddhist communities to a beautiful hike to Nagarkot and the stunning temples of Bakthapur! Everything was planned to the detail: the tours, the historical and cultural background explanations, the food, and the local delights to enjoy. The drivers were extremely professional and my guide, Bipin, was not only an incredible professional as well, but also one of the nicest and most attentive persons I've ever met! And also lots of fun! Cannot highly enough recommend Social Tours! The vision behind the company is also a plus, for they promote local sustainable development and care about all the people they work with. I can´t wait to come again to Nepal to plan a week-long hike with them!!Written June 25, 2023

We also gained a much better perspective of Nepal in the global community. I highly recommend this tour!! We saw and learned so much on this tour that we would have missed otherwise!!! While you can pay as you wish, we found this tour with Yogesh to be priceless! Don’t miss this very unique tour to learn about look at life in Kathmandu! - 254lorat0 contributionsHelambu region trekI was in Patan beginning of April this year and decided to do a trek somewhere not far away. A friend from Kathmandu recommended Social Tours to me, which was a good call, as Raj and his team organized everything at record speed. I bought and borrowed everything I needed in a matter of two days, and went to Helambu region for a week with an experienced guide they connected me with, Bhim. I fell in love with the area as we passed through villages and walked for hours through rhododendron forests, past stupas and monasteries, all the way up to snow at 3600 metres. I was lucky to have sat for hours with lamas at one of those villages at the end of our walking day, witnessing a buddhist death ritual, or participating in women's dances and festivities in another village, together with some trekkers we met on the way. It was all in all a memorable and smooth experience, considering I was totally unprepared, both physically and in terms of gear. I couldn't recommend Social Tours or my guide Bhim more. Hope to do another one of those trips soon!Written May 15, 2023
- scobious150 contributionsSocialtours are to social tourism what Mozart is to classical music! What a company, what a team! To say that Socialtours took great care of us would be the understatement of the year! Not only did they take excellent care of us, but they also made sure that we had the experience of a lifetime. Our 10-day stay in and around Kathmandu was made so much more rewarding and informative by Raj and his team. ~From the moment we landed and were picked up at the airport, we felt as if we were visiting and spending time with great friends who made every effort to ensure we were well taken care of and got the most out of our visit to this amazingly beautiful and enchanting country. With Raj and Bipin by our side, we were taken on a journey of exploration and wonder as they generously shared with us their never-ending knowledge about their country's history, its people, norms, religions, politics, and everything in between. It was a smorgasbord of new experiences and wonderment thanks to Raj and all of his wonderful guides (or brothers as they lovingly call each other). They took such extraordinary great care of us. What could have potentially been a one-dimensional experience had we traveled on our own with only a guidebook in hand, was made into a three-dimensional, multi-color, multi-sensation experience! We are still reeling from our incredible trip and will never forget what an amazing, eye-opening journey Socialtours took us on, introducing us to the beauty that is Nepal and Kathmandu, and its warm, generous, and humble people. Socialtours walk the walk when it comes to their ethos of responsible tourism, which is guided by three basic principles: to be mindful of the environment, be sensitive to the culture, and contribute to the local economy -- which they do in SPADES! We feel we have met kindred spirits and made lifelong friends in Raj and Bipin and we miss them already. What we paid Socialtours for our incredible journey pales to what we received in return. It was, and is, WORLD-CLASS service, and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. On a scale from 1-10, we give Socialtours a 100!!! Namaste!Written April 25, 2023
- DrYlva0 contributionsWalking tour in Patan, KathmanduToday I joined Raj on a Photo Kathmandu walking tour which was so much more than the photo exhibition. I learned a lot about life in Kathmandu, I saw places I would never have been able to find by myself and most importantly, it was fun. The three hours flew in the most enjoyable way. Raj’s knowledge about the history and culture of Nepal is profound but also his ideas about the ethical aspects of touring and living impressed me a lot. Thanks to Socialtours for a wonderful experience!Written March 3, 2023

- roryl6850 contributionsNepal Active Immersion: Cities, Villages, Customs, Traditions and TrekingSocial tours provided a customized 8-day experience for my wife and I in Nepal October 25 - November 1 of 2022. Both Raj and Bippin were easy to work with, flexible, and prompt to respond with planning details. Social tours took care of all our arrangements, from picking us up at the airport at Kathmandu, to scheduling tours, tour guides, treks, permits, admission fees, lodging accommodations, guides, and then driving us back to the airport for departure. One of our highlights was a trek in the Annapurna Conservation area. We had a great guide named Samip. Samip was very knowledgeable, capable and willing to answer questions and provide information about the local culture, customs, and natural beauty we encountered on the trek. Our first day we hiked from Ulleri to Ghorepani. On the second day we did the sunrise hike up Poon Hill, then came back to Ghorepani for breakfast and then hiked to Ghandruk. Sunrise at our guesthouse in Ghandruk provided us with a spectacular view of the sun shining on snowcapped mountains. The entire trek was beautiful and restorative for us. We saw awesome views of mountains, enjoyed the peaceful quiet of the forests, were refreshed by mountain streams and waterfalls, and passed through scenic and hospitable villages. Our guide, Samip, pointed out interesting features and helped us to appreciate the beauty surrounding us. We highly recommend him as a guide. Another aspect of our Nepal experience was staying at Namo Buddha with a tour of the Namo Buddhist monastery. Social Tours arranged for a guide, Merrat (spelling?) to explain the history of the monastery and help us experience a morning prayer/mantra chanting practice at the monastery. The next day we traveled to Bhaktapur and Merrat provided an early morning tour of the city temples and offered us a glimpse into the prayer customs/traditions of Hindu and Buddhist followers. Merrat also provided a mid-morning tour of the historic Baktupur city with interesting architecture, and historical facts, dates and stories. Overall, we had an amazing experience in Nepal and Social Tours made it easy and stress-free. We highly recommend using Social Tours for any trip to Nepal. They have the knowledge, experience, connections, and concern for your welfare to make your experience memorable and rewarding. We were very happy with our experience. - christianew6430 contributionsAmazing Helambu trek organised by socialtourssocialtours organised a totally amazing 8 day Helambu trek for a friend and me in April 2022. It is a perfect getaway from Kathmandu (2-4 h drive), wonderful nature, not too difficult trek up to 3.600 m, and great possibility to learn about culture and conditions in the Helambu region. Overnight stays (comfort package) and food were great. And we often had a hot shower at the end of the day. We had a great guide and porter which grew up in the Helambu region. They were wonderful company on the trek and could give us a lot of insight view into the region and the culture. So aside from the hike, meeting and chatting with people in their homes and tasting local soul food were our personal highlights.Written May 3, 2022

- MTB90X0 contributionsBest Eco-Tour Company in Nepal (Social Tours)Attention anyone considering travel to Nepal, Social Tours in Kathmandu is THE company to hire to support any of your travel support needs. Eco-minded and capable of any wraparound support you may need, my wife Amber and I needed detailed transportation and logistics assistance during the week we visited Nepal and Social Tours delivered. Raj and his team (Bipin was amazing!) are well versed in timely transport, arranging helicopters, managing local lodgings bookings, and extremely knowledgeable on Nepal’s vast cultural and historical heritage and sites. We presented Social Tours with a few last minute curveballs during our trip in April 2022 and they didn’t skip a beat. Felt secure, represented, and appreciated by the team during our entire trip. They even sent us home with some eco-friendly prayer flags and a bon voyage lunch. THANK YOU SOCIAL TOURS! We appreciate you making our visit to Nepal one we won’t soon forget :) -Mike & AmberWritten April 20, 2022
- 229sydneyy0 contributionsGood experience in a beautiful place!Raj helped my friend and I this past March organize our trip to Nepal and we had a wonderful experience trekking to Annapurna Base Camp Trek! Raj was very welcoming and showed us around the city of Kathmandu, telling us all about past and modern day history. I was a bit disappointed in the way our guide handled medical problems, but otherwise he knew a lot about the area we were trekking in and made is an overall great experience. Raj was very receptive to any feedback we gave him. One other thing, the HUB was also a great place to hang out at and relax!Written May 22, 2021
- Pungky U0 contributionsGreat trekking experience, well-organised.We had a trip to Langtang arranged by Social Tours at the end of March 2021. From the very beginning, Raj was really responsive, informative and the trip was very well planned and well organised. The itinerary was adjusted to our group's needs, great accomodations, and above all, Social Tours has made our group trip (3 families with 6 young children) to explore the beauty of Langtang Valley easier, so fun, and memorable. We were well taken care of during the whole trip thanks to Rabin, our responsible guide as well as our helpful and friendly porters. Recommended by a friend, I would definitely recommend Social Tours to anyone willing to do family trekking. If I may add one thing, to make it more family-friendly, it would be great if Social Tours can provide hiking child carrier available for rent to families who need it.Written April 15, 2021
- omithetraveler0 contributionsChicken + Spinach & Cheese Mo:mos to Die for!I saw a paper flier for this course in a random alley in Kathmandu and decided to give it a quick google when I got back to my hostel. I am so glad I did! Me and 3 of my friends took part in the Cook Like A Local course and had a blast learning to make two different fillings and two folding techniques. From start to finish, our chefs/teachers guided us through the process and gave us tips about making them at home as well. It was the perfect way to spend the afternoon -- especially since the course doubled as our dinner! We had enough mo:mos that we couldn't even finish them all!!! 5 Stars to Social Tours! :) Come to class early and check out all of the amazing artison coffee/kitchen products for sale in the HUB as well. Such an awesome space.Written March 11, 2020
- wweenn0 contributionsCook like a localImpromptu sign up for the 3hr class just the day before. Luckily it was off peak and I could join in the last minute. Great activity for a solo traveller like myself. Trip to the local store to get ingredients before we started making the momos ourselves. Would have loved to get my hands on other dishes as well, perhaps the next time when I'm back! But, you do have to all agree on the same dish before commencing the class. And there's 6 to a class - morning and afternoon sessionsWritten December 30, 2019

Socialtours were helpful and efficient when organising the trek, hotel and transfers by email and the trek itself was fantastic. Our guide Jaysan was patient, friendly and very knowledgeable. We recommend them highly. Many thanks to Raj, Anura and Jaysan for everything!Written December 29, 2019

We read the reviews on trip advisor and decided to head up to social tours. It is conveniently located in Thamel. (Look for the yakety yak hostel board). The feel of the place is chilled out. It has Karma coffee attached to it.... again a lovely place to get some amazing coffee. I took up the momo making class and it was so fun. Shakuntala, our chef, was a very sweet lady.... kind and patient.... who went above and beyond to teach us the techniques.
Secondly, we met the owner, Raj. He is such a positive person. Talking to him got us a lot more excited about our trip to Nepal. As soon as he heard abt our love for local food, he introduced us to their food trails. We asked him if we could do this on a motorcycle and he was so willing to customise everything for us as per our liking. We were firstly taught about local coffee and we got to sample it too. Then a walk through the marketplace where we learnt where the locals shop. We sampled local cuisine in a small village.... where we were treated to the typical Newari welcome. We rode to another village to take in the sights and finally to Patan. Here we were taken to this lovely restaurant which deals with ethnic foods and forgotten ingredients.
On the whole a day well spent and loads of fun. Our guide Mithuraj was a very sweet guy and enthusiastic. He spoke good English and was willing to answer all our questions.
If you are in Kathmandu and need to plan a trip which is beyond the typical places, just get in touch with them. You will go home happier!
