- esthersH80MT0 contributionsA Captivating Journey through Kathmandu and its Enchanting Surroundings together with Sunil Bikram ShahMy recent trip to Kathmandu and its surrounding areas, organized by Mr Sunil Bikram Shah was an unforgettable experience filled with cultural richness, natural beauty, and warm hospitality. Here’s why I highly recommend a trip to Nepal organized by Mr Sunil Bikram Shah. He had organized pick up from the airport and then all drivers and tourist guides for our group. He himself is a very knowledgeable and agreeable and polite tour guide, always at your service, whatever the need may be, and my friend and me had the honor to be accompanied by Sunil or another Nepalese tour guide, described below. Changing money, getting the right SIM Card, appropriate timing of sightseeing and recommendations of what is valuable to see. Organizing dinners, events, special shows, everything you can imagine. He not only organized a very polite and good driver, he also organized an excellent tour guide for us, very knowledgeable Nepalese man with a British degree of language and history and very agreeable. He never minded our two hundred questions about culture, God, temples, religions, the population, answered them all over the days and always brought extra information according to what we had asked. A real pleasure to travel with and very, very reliable. Whenever there was a problem, Mr Sunil was always reachable by phone, always ready to solve the current problem, one day he was our personal tour guide, that was a real hightlight. Sunil also organized a private driver to pick us up late in the evenings, at whatever time and wherever we were in the Kathmandu area, he made every extra service possible, and always with a wonderful smile!! Here is the tourist program he organized for us. 1. Kathmandu Durbar Square Start your journey at Kathmandu Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The intricate architecture, historic palaces, and temples like Hanuman Dhoka and Taleju Temple are mesmerizing. Don’t miss the chance to see the Kumari, the living goddess. 2. Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple) This ancient religious complex offers panoramic views of Kathmandu Valley. The stupa, adorned with colorful prayer flags, is a spiritual haven. The playful monkeys add a charming touch to the experience. 3. Boudhanath Stupa One of the largest stupas in the world, Boudhanath is a must-visit. The serene atmosphere, coupled with the hum of monks chanting and the scent of incense, creates a truly peaceful experience. Nearby, you'll find monasteries where you can learn about Tibetan Buddhism. 4. Pashupatinath Temple Pashupatinath, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a significant Hindu temple on the banks of the Bagmati River. The temple complex is bustling with activity, especially during the evening aarti (prayer ceremony). 5. Thamel For a vibrant slice of local life, head to Thamel. This lively district is brimming with shops, restaurants, and bars. It’s the perfect place to shop for souvenirs, enjoy local cuisine, and experience Kathmandu's nightlife. 6. Nagarkot A short drive from Kathmandu, Nagarkot is famous for its stunning sunrise views over the Himalayas. Spend a night at one of the many hotels offering spectacular mountain vistas. The early morning views of Mount Everest are truly awe-inspiring. 7. Bhaktapur Visit the ancient city of Bhaktapur, known for its well-preserved medieval architecture. The 55-Window Palace, Nyatapola Temple, and Pottery Square are highlights. Strolling through its cobbled streets feels like stepping back in time. 8. Patan (Lalitpur) Patan’s Durbar Square is equally captivating with its array of temples, courtyards, and the impressive Patan Museum. The city is renowned for its artisans, so take some time to explore local crafts and workshops. 9. Kirtipur A beautiful, glorious town with Hewar Culture, visit the beautiful town with its ancient houses and fascinating temples. CONCLUSION: Kathmandu and its surroundings are a magical blend of history, culture, and nature. Whether you're seeking spiritual enlightenment, adventure, or simply a unique travel experience, this destination has something for everyone. Highly recommended to have your entire trip organised and accompanied by wonderful Mr Sunil Bikram Shah and his team.Written August 4, 2024
- 304_zge_0 contributionsGreat first visit in NepalI booked 3 different experiences with Classic Escapades: Kathmandu Heritage Sightseeing tour, Smells of Kathmandu Walking tour, and the 6-day long trek and yoga experience in the Kathmandu valley. I was travelling alone and it was my first time in Nepal. Sunil was very friendly, professional, and competent. He made me discover Kathmandu and its valley through anecdotes, history, and stories. The heritage tour was an important part of it since it gave me the chance to explore the main historical and cultural attractions of the city in one day. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have had the time to visit it all. During the whole trip he was very helpful and paid attention to all the details from food to my comfort. He adapted his pace to me while walking. He was careful about everything. While practicing yoga, he made sure to take the time to get things right for my level. I would definitely recommend Classic Escapades to anyone who wants to visit Kathmandu and its valley.Written April 23, 2024
- silin4280 contributionsWonderful experience! It’s such a privilege to have Sunil as my guide for exploring the hidden gems in Kathmandu and Patan. He is a one-of-a-kind guide who is gentle, sophisticated, thoughtful, and sensitive to others’ needs. He makes sure you feel comfortable in this overwhelming city, and helps you understand and appreciate the authentic charms of the local community and food. He speaks prefect English and explains things in an easy-to-understand manner, which is extremely helpful when it comes to complex cultural and religious topics. I would definitely recommend Sunil and the company to anyone who wants to explore Nepal in a more cultural and spiritual way!Written February 19, 2024
- lizao9830 contributionsGreat walking tour with knowledgeable guideHad a great walking tour with Sunil. Learned a heap about the culture and society in Nepal. It was the quiet season so I was the only one on the tour but Sunil ran it anyway. A great way to get oriented in Kathmandu. Highly recommended.Written February 15, 2024

- Laura K0 contributionsA wealth of knowledgeWe had a professional and educated local guide that was able to make sense of all of the sights, sounds and smells around us. Kathmandu can be an overwhelming city and this really helped pare it down for us. I also appreciated his insights about things like education and government and it was a fantastic learning experience. It was the right amount of time and good value.Written March 13, 2023
- G1215YDdianal0 contributionsGreat afternoon adventureSunil started the tour by showing his patience as an expert guide when I was waiting at the wrong hotel gate location. Instead of leaving me behind, he checked reception, sent me a message and thankfully we quickly remedying the mistake. The walking tour is a great afternoon adventure into parts of Kathmandu where there are not many tourists. We traveled to temples, stupas, a historical tooth ache remedy, and narrow shopping alleys filled with beads, traditional clothing, and everyday essentials for the Nepalis. Suni provided an excellent explanation of the construction of the stupas as it relates to Buddhist teachings. The stories, sights, sounds, and smells are still with me! Highly recommend Smells of Kathmandu Walking Tour.Written November 20, 2022
- evhenr20180 contributionsDeep dive into Kathmandu authentic lifeAfter having a few walks on our own, we decided to take a walking tour with Sunil and it was 100% the right choice. Sunil showed us the city center, highlighted the most interesting parts, and told us the story. It helped us discover it and understand it much better than on our own. Totally recommend!Written November 5, 2022
- rebeccasX1852DA0 contributionsTruly a once in a lifetime experienceAll I can say about the trip is that it is truly a once in a lifetime experience. Sunil made the trip so easy and well organized that we were left only to enjoy everything that came along. From the initial trip planning conversation to departure, everything was so smooth. Mardi Himal trail is simply an awesome region where you find yourself lost in its magical beauty and we were lucky to have a clear view when we were trekking. We practiced yoga every morning and evening and mountains and nature made the practice even better. We lived the moment and loved the experience. We are happy to have chosen this trip.Written October 29, 2022
- jacquelinedQ4769SD0 contributionsBeautiful Trip, Excellent ServiceI signed up for the trek with a few of my friends and did it without much expectation. It turned out to be an unforgettable experience with such amazing people. Sunil was so prompt in replying emails and every time he replied, all our questions were answered clearly. Our guide Gopal was an amazing man and the best guide I have ever met. He was there all the time when we wanted him and made sure we were comfortable. The porters were creatures from another planet and I cannot talk enough about them. Finally, the view of mountains we got from Mardi Himal was breathtaking and worth all the effort we made. It was a beautiful experience with excellent service for sureWritten October 28, 2022
- mary3mm0 contributionsEducational and fun tour for KathyThis was a very enjoyable tour. Sahil is an excellent guide. He is very knowledgeable about Kathmandu and shared insights into the history, culture and religion of the area. It was nice to visit where the locals shop and learn more about their everyday life. He also gave us a recommendation for a restaurant ( it was very good). I would definitively recommend this tour. Glad we took itWritten October 16, 2022
- J2797OEmarthak0 contributionsIt was awesome.I and my friends did this trek in the second week of September and enjoyed it thoroughly. Although it was raining the first couple of days, we were lucky that the weather got clear when we reached the High Camp and Mardi Base Camp and we could see the Himalayas right in front of us. It was surreal and the experience was awesome. Our guide, Gopal, was a gentleman who knew so much about the area and what he was doing. He always thought about our safety and went an extra mile to ensure the same. It was an unforgettable trip for me and I highly recommend it.Written September 24, 2022

This tour through Nepal is a truly magical experience that I feel so lucky to have been a part of. Every day was a new adventure, and Sunil did such a good job at facilitating it all. He communicated very clearly with us and made sure our entire group was happy and taken care of at all times.
The incredible Himalayan views, religious shrines, animal adventures, immersion into the culture, great food, and hospitality we experienced on this tour made for special memories we will never forget.
My absolute favorite part of the tour was staying in Chitwan and visiting the national park and elephants. I also loved our walk through the jungle with a local guide. Kathmandu is also a site to see, a bustling and vibrant city with beautiful people and incredible shopping.
I can't say enough good things about how insightful, courteous, intelligent, and kind Sunil is. He is truly the perfect person to guide you through the mystical land of Nepal.
