We were a family of four adults and pleased it was a private tour. We were picked up at 5:30 to start the 1.5 hour journey on the rugged narrow mountain road to Nagarkot. The entrance fee was $1450 rupee total. We had both a driver and a guide. We were there about 20 minutes prior to sunrise and was surprised there were so many people already. There was a tall viewing stand accessible by climbing a ladder crowded with people but also a large area to walk around and wait for the sunrise. Thankfully, it was a clear day but still the Himalayan range was quite a distance away. Not very often can Mt. Everest be seen. Remember to bring binoculars. It was quite cold so dress accordingly.
A complimentary breakfast buffet was at a nearby hotel where other tour groups stopped.
I was looking forward to seeing Bhaktapur Durbar Square which cost 1,500 rupee per person. This is an ancient area inhabitated by indigenous Newari people who were a mix of Buddhist and Hindu. This area was a trade route between India and Tibet. The peacock window was intricate and unique. The Pottery Square was really nothing special just pottery drying in the sun. For me, the 55 Window Palace was the highlight with the black lacquered sandalwood intricate windows. Taumadhi Square had the tallest pagoda in Nepal but the Nyatapola Temple was under restoration so could hardly see it.
National Art Gallery was on the list but our guide just walked by never asking if we wanted to see it. Our guide was talking on his phone quite a bit and didn't feel like he was very attentive. He did apologize at the end of the tour that he had been on the phone a lot.
Overall, seeing the Himalayan Mountain range was spectacular but wasn't as thrilled with Bhaktapur Durbar area. Our supposedly full day 8 hour tour ended at 11:00. Please don't advertise a full day tour when obviously it wouldn't be that long.
Technically, I would rate this tour a 3.5 mainly due to the Nagarkot sunrise being a 5 and the rest was certainly much lower than that.

We very much enjoyed the tour, and would recommend it. Entry fees to Nagarkot is $1450 NPR and fees to Bhaktapur are $1500NPR each, so it is relatively expensive. However, we very much enjoyed both sites. Kathmandu is quite smoggy, so the sunrise was a little obscured, but the view of the sun hitting the himalayan peaks was spectacular. When you arrive at Nargarkot, make sure to try the hot tea!

Bhaktapur is a very interesting place, with lots to see. Our guide gave a good explaination on the history and usage of different buildings. Overall, I would recommend this tour.

My tour guide Rajah Dhakal was very informed and professional. He had a wealth of information, with the right mix of politics, history, current events and personal stories. The pace of the tour was just right. Along the way he would stop the driver so I could take photos.

I booked the sunrise tour knowing the risk that the weather wouldn’t cooperate. And it didn’t. I didn’t get to see the sunrise, but Rajah made up for it with a memorable tour of Bhaktapur.

Lots to see but also a lot of downside. We called and were told that the pick up was 0530; however it was 0445. The guide’s English was poor and the tour was only slightly more than four hours long. No way there’s any breakfast. Even water was not offered. Tour ended at 0900. Not even close to the full day tour offered. If you are still considering this tour, consider the sunset tour instead. Also keep in mind they’ll be asking for $15 for the old city ticket, but paying in the local currency will save you about $2.

Despite it stating 8hrs, our “full-day” tour ended at 8:30 am. There was an unexpected 1500NRP per person fee to enter Bhaktapur, and when asked if we can skip the guide told us it would only eliminate 1 stop out of the itinerary and would shorten by 1 hour. We requested to replace it with a different temple which was kindly allowed. However, there must have been a misunderstanding because we were brought right back to the hotel after this.

Dipu was an excellent guide, willing to be flexible and adjust things on the fly. He was knowledgeable and kind. We loved Nagarkot, even though it was a little foggy. Views were amazing of all the terraced rice paddies and the Himalayan Range. Bhaktapur was chock full of amazing old temples. Breakfast was excellent, in a charming courtyard.

Raj, the tour guide for this trip, is a very friendly and knowledgeable guy. We set off for Nagarkot in the early morning, it was cloudy (rainy season) but still a very nice place to see and a nice drive. We then headed to Bakhtapur which is a must-see and Raj really knew the history of every corner there which made the tour very interesting. Would definitely recommend this visit,

Rajan Dhakal was a great guide. He is very knowledgeable and told us a great deal about the history of Nepal. We were lucky enough to see the sunrise and throughly enjoyed the trip. The breakfast was great and our guide was lovely.

Rajan was very patient and let us stop along the tour several times to capture photos.

I did this tour in January and overall I enjoyed it quite a lot. The only downside for me were the roads but that's got to do with Nepal's infrastructure much rather than the quality of the company executing the tour or the equipment.

Staff members were on time, informative and extremely helpful. The sights are amazing, but I'd keep in mind that there are usually quite a lot of people watching the sunrise from this spot so it's not as tranquil as I had envisioned.

I highly recommend Zunu, my guide - she was amazing, very informative, easy going but nevertheless organized!
