The Nargakot sunrise and day hike tour was a truly memorable experience for us. We got the best view of the sunrise over the Himalayan ranges from the Nargakot tower, which is a small tower in the middle of the viewpoint area. Following the sunrise was a breakfast paid by ourselves (not included in the tour) at a hotel recommended by our tour guide. After breakfast, we started the 13-km hike from Nargakot to Changu Narayan temple. The hike was easy and mostly downhills, taking us through the villages where we could see the daily life of Nepali people. We did the tour in late December so it was freezing during the sunrise, but afterwards the hike warmed us up and it got hot later in the sun. So one pro tip is layer up for the morning and get ready to leave your jackets in the car when the hike began.
Communication with the tour organizer was fast and responsive. Our guide Som was also very helpful and knowledgeable. Would highly recommend this tour!

Once I booked the tour, the Himalayan Planet contacted me and confirmed the pick up arrangement. The day before the tour, they advised me the temperature difference between morning and daytime, asked me to prepare my hiking clothes accordingly.
My tour guide, Mr.Shishir Thapa showed up on time. He and the deiver were very polite and friendly.
During the Hiking, Mr.Thapa never rushed me anyrhing, he always gave me extra time to take pictures and enjoy the beautiful view. He was also very knowledgeable. Whatever question I asked, he had an answer.
He explained what's crops local farmer were growing winter season, name of the flowers and fruits by roadside, local customs, history and religion of Nepal, all were very interesting.
Since he was a very experienced mountain guide, he shared some story of trekking trips.
If you have not enough time to go for a long trekking but want see mountain, I highly recommend this tour with Mr.Shishir Thapa.

Unfortunately we weren’t able to see the mountains during the sunrise as the weather was hazy but Shishir made sure we still get a wonderful time during the tour. He was very professional and friendly, he would ho out of his way just to please you. I would recommend Shishir and this tour to anyone who wants to escape the busy streets of Kathmandu and get some fresh air in the mountains.

Absolutely amazing experience!
You get so much value for your money it’s absurd. You get a beautiful sunrise, you get a fun hike, you see cultural tempels, you meet tons of locals - and I even had a breakfast at a random house we found!
Many trips around the world feels like … a package. Everything is scripted. This trip is not like that. It felt unique and customizable.
My guide, Shishir, was also truly fantastic. Spoke perfect English and knew his stuff - but to me he has a superpower few guides have: you get to know him & he’s personal. He is not “hiding” behind his job. Hes a wonderful human being and made the trip even better!
Ps: you are not guaranteed to see the mountains in the background due to clouds. But it doesn’t matter - the trip is super worth it anyway!

I booked the Nargarkot sunrise trip only two days in advance, and coordination with Himalayan Planet Adventures was very easy. The guide (Bidur) and driver promptly picked me up at 5:15am for the trip to Nagarkot. Upon arriving, we had tea to keep warm and then went to the sunrise viewing point. Although it was a cloudy day, I can imagine that the sunrise would be great from Nagarkot. Breakfast at Club Himalayan Resort was excellent, and it was worth the extra price. After breakfast, we began our hike to the Changu Narayan Temple. It was a peaceful escape from hectic Kathmandu and interesting to see a more rural lifestyle so close to the city. Bidur was a great guide the entire time. He was kind enough to answer any of my questions, describe the history of sites we saw, and always offered to take my picture. The hike was good exercise, and there were opportunities to take the car if you wanted to make it a shorter hike to the temple. Changu Narayan Temple is very peaceful and one of the lesser visited UNESCO World Heritage Sites. I definitely recommend this tour if you want to explore outside of Kathmandu!

I had a wonderful time on this day. Woke up super early and my guide Madan and the driver arrived at 5.30am. The journey to Nagarkot took a little more than an hour and we arrived to a beautiful sunrise and breathtaking view of the mountains. We then made our way for buffet breakfast at a nearby hotel with a great view. We then continued to walk around the nearby village which was mostly downhill and fairly easy, absorbing the morning freshness and witnessing the every day lives of the people. We also visited a few temples before making our journey back.
I highly recommend this trip especially if you are short on time like me.

Madan was a great tour guide. The views were beautiful. Unfortunately the fog led to not views of the himalayans on this day but we moved hotels to stay at Club Himalaya, where Madan took us to breakfast, and were able to see the Himalayan’s at sunrise.

Shishir was a knowledgeable and friendly guide. As a solo tourist looking to do a quick day hike, he was a good fit. Note that entry tickets are included. Prepare appropriate clothes (long pants and hiking shoes are a must) and also keep an eye on the weather as rain/cloud will get in the way of the sunrise.

Absolutely fantastic day. Worth getting up with the larks. Unfortunately the peaks never made it through the clouds, though the hike through the mountain villages and the people (and puppies) we met along the way made amply up for it.
Easy hike of about 13km, mostly downhill, though there are a few spikes - especially if you are into taking shortcuts 😂
Would highly recommend this private tour. Best thing of all our guide Shishir was brilliant, witty, informative and kind! Go for it!!!

Hi Samuel,
Yes, you can do this tour and suitable for family but only point are they wake up early in the morning? The price is USD 50.00 PP. if you have children under 10 i can offer you one free seat and book it only for 6.
Dear sir/madam,
We are interested in your tour to Nagarkot from Kathmandu. Now it says in the additional information:
Not recommended for pregnant travelers.
Now it is true that my girlfriend will be 12 weeks pregnant around that time. Why is it not recommended? Is it because of the altitude?
Thanks in advance!

We also stopped at Changu Narayan on the way back to Kathmandu. It is the oldest temple in Nepal. It only takes about an hour to take in the whole site. The tour guide came with us and told us a lot about the temple and the driver waited for us. No extra cost - we just tipped more to show our appreciation.

you do not need trekking boots to go do this tour, there is not too much walking which needs to be done and it's not difficult at all and i guess you would be picked up from durbar square in patan but that you have to check with your tour guide and driver! i was picked up from my hotel early in the morning but i was staying in thamel!
