About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- paulahA9563SF0 contributionsFun, insightful, plant-based ✅✅✅We enjoyed Gertrude’s cooking class a lot. Gertrude is a knowledgeable and fun teacher. We talked a lot about the specific ingredients and regional preferences. I love that the food is purely plant based and that we were welcomed into Gertrude’s residence. Thank you!Written March 14, 2025
- FarAway675142060650 contributionsExperienceIt was a great experience! Gertrude is an amazing women. She is kind and she knows everything about the food en the background of it. I felt myself most welcome with her.Written February 23, 2025
- FrequentFlier7887760 contributionsAbout a 30 minute stop is all you need to stand at the center of the world. This is a quick stop. You can stand on 0° latitude without paying for an entry fee of any kind. There are a lot of tourist related shops around there to buy your souvenirs but mostly you just want your picture in the big equator circle.Written February 19, 2025
- 65chrisk650 contributionsSuperb Tour of Major sites in KampalaGertrude did an amazing job showing us the 3 sites, answering questions, and spending as much time as we wanted! She is passionate about her country and sharing it with others.Written January 27, 2025
- 242annikad0 contributionsWeekend Trip to JinjaThis weekend trip to Jinja with Steve as our tour guide was packed with great adventures. Two of my girlfriends and I initially met Steve for a walking tour in Kampala where we knew he’d be the best person to take us on a fun weekend trip. We received tours from locals tour guides at the gorgeous Sezibwa falls and lush Mabira rainforest followed by shopping at a local street market and a sunset boat tour of the source of the Nile. The following day we went rafting on the Nile to complete our journey in Jinja. Steve is both fun and knowledgeable, but what makes him an expert tour guide is the connections he has to local individuals and businesses, allowing this trip to be a truly authentic experience in Jinja.Written January 20, 2025
- Eugene L0 contributionsFun time in JinjaHad a great time. Steve was a great tour guide. Best part was the boat cruise. Had a great time. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting UgandaWritten January 17, 2025
- Bendigo20 contributionsExcellent authentic local experienceMy daughter and I had a wonderful time cooking traditional food with Gertrude. She is most informative and hospitable. Hygiene was paramount and we helped prepare the fresh vegetables she had purchased earlier in the day. This was a healthy choice for us as we are vegetarian. It was a brilliant experience and we highly recommend it. PS her son was on school holidays and he was well-behaved and fun to be around.Written December 21, 2024

One for the tropical rainforest, another one for the waterfalls, and finally, one more for the Source of Nile. This guaranteed an excellent visit!Written September 15, 2024

Aug 2024 • Couples
We are a couple and joined the walking tour on August the 22nd in the afternoon with Getrude, Steve’s wife.
We had the chance to visit some crucial locations in Kampala, accompanied by a detailed description.
We felt super safe walking around with Getrude and she never missed the chance to explain us as much as possible about the city, the inhabitants and also she was very pleased to answer our many questions.
Also, Getrude was okay in staying a bit longer we with us at the Mosque (which was not included), we really appreciate her time and kindness.
This tour is totally worth it! You should not miss it!
Thank you, Getrude, we wish you all the best!

I can highly recommend Steve and his walking tour of Kampala. Steve is easy to communicate with, via whatsapp, and explains superbly all the sights and sounds of Uganda's capital city. It was a pleasure to walk with him. Note that he also organizes tours to Lake Victoria.

Steve is a friendly, knowledgeable guide who knows the city well and shows you all the great spots you won't find without him. He shares his vast knowledge of the country and the city from both historical and modern perspectives. he studied at Makerere University obtaining his master in Tourism and deserves that title for every inch.

Steve’s walking tour was amazing! I’ve been to Kampala a few times and wanted a tour to take me to spots I haven’t yet been and this one did just that! Steve is very knowledge and makes you feel very comfortable the entire time. I went with a friend but would definitely feel comfortable as a solo female traveler booking with Steve. Highly recommend!

Steve was the best tour guide you can ask for and I would do this everytime again. Steve was very funny, I was very impressed how he knew everything about every single weird detail I was asking him about. I had a really good time and a lot of fun. It was so great to explore Kampala this way (it was also my first walking tour ever!), I felt safe the whole time, went to places I would not be sure if I would go there as a solo female traveler by my own and it was also very respectful to the local people the whole time . Steve even in the end helped me to book a bus ticket back to Kigali and was just very caring, patient and just a great person to spend the day with.
Can highly recommend!! :)

It was an amazing tour! Steve was such a nice and knowledgeable guide showing us super interesting places in Kampala. Would recommend to anyone coming to Kampala as it helps you to get oriented as well, because at least for me the chaos of the city was quite overwhelming at first. Steve took the time to answer all my questions and at the same time kept the tour interesting and close to Kampalas heart.

Steve gave me an excellent tour of Kampala. It was very interesting, and I learnt a lot thought the tour. It is important to see the various sides of a city, and Steve did an excellent job painting that picture in Kampala, while offering a lot of useful information along the way. Steve is very knowledgeable, and I enjoyed going into depth about Ugandan politics, the economy, and the experience of living in Kampala as a student and tour operator. Looking forward to my next visit.

Steve is an excellent guide! He is very knowledgeable & personable. The tour began at Makerere University and went through several areas of central Kampala. He also described some of the history of the city and recent Ugandan history since independence. Highly recommended!

I really recommend this! We took a long tour of many different sites in downtown Kampala, such as the central market, the shiva hindu temple, the buzzing bus station and the makerere university (among the others). It was super interesting and a great opportunity to visit places in Kampala out of the touristic route; also it was great to really get to know the city and understand how life is here. My favorite part was the market around the nakivubo stadium! All the places were in a walking distance but overall we stayed around almost 4 hours. Steve was very nice and talkative, he had a lot of interesting facts about Kampala to share.

We joined the walking tour to get to know the city better. Steve was a great guide, he knows the city very well, is super friendly and easy to talk to and he has a lot of knowledge - so you can ask him everything you are interested in. I specifically liked that he showed us the city from different perspectives since it it a city full of contrasts. We enjoyed the tour a lot. Thank you, Elli and Abel.
