About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 120johann0 contributionsI had to BRIBE the staff to get in!At the entrance area, they asked for my passport, which I did not know I was supposed to bring with me. I did have a paper copy of my passport and a picture on my phone, and some other IDs, but the two guys at the entrance said that it was not good enough. Turns out, they were looking for a BRIBE. We negotiated 5000 Francs and I gave the guy a 10,000 bill, and he put it in his pocket immediately and never gave me change. So THEY TOOK A BRIBE OF 14 dollars to allow me to walk inside and then purchase a ticket for the ferry. The rest of the trip was fine. That's why I gave it 4 stars. It's a nice island, nice views, nice boat ride. Nothing out of this world, but I think you will enjoy it. Best regards.Written December 20, 2024
- Miss H0 contributionsGoree Island, Dakar, Lion and Safari tripsAbsolutely brilliant, we requested a vehicle for 4 with an English interpreter and that’s what we got. Isa Abduo were excellent. We felt safe and secure. We negotiated a full price of the trip, so all tolls and tickets were part of the cost. We did 2 trips- the first was to the Lions and then the safari and the second Goree island and Dakar. Both amazing experiences. We spent as long as we wanted at both trips. So the day didn’t last too long. You will need to supply all drinks and food. We took extra so we could all share.Written December 15, 2024
- ChinyeO0 contributionsInteresting and EnlighteningThe Island was very easy to access via the ferry. It was very interesting to wander around and take in all the sights. We had a guide that gave us a background of all the old buildings. The house of slaves was very enlightening and made the slave trade seem so real. We found the arts with sand amazing and were able to buy a few. We also had a sumptuous lunch after the tour, bought a few artifacts and were able to take many photographs before joining the ferry back to Dakar. The main challenge was that the guide spoke limited English language and the structures were mostly labelled in French. Thus, most times we had to figure out what he was saying and / or the structure ourselves.Written September 28, 2024
- 808anjak0 contributionsWonderful ExcursionsMy family of four went on three whole-day trips with Sénégal Excursions during our one-week vacation in April 2024 and thought they were great! I contacted them months before our trip and Djibril always answered my E-mails very quickly, both before and during our stay in Senegal, even late at night and on a holiday (we were in Senegal during Eid al-Fitr). He also organized everything perfectly for us. English-speaking guide Mame accompanied us on our first excursion and Boniface, who speaks very good German, on the following two. Both were very friendly and knowledgeable. Our drivers did a good job as well (I only remember one of their names, Omar). Payment could be made to the respective guide in Euros after return from the day’s excursion. These were the excursions we chose: Bandia Reserve and Rose Lake: Bandia is not Kruger and many of the animals were brought here from other countries. However, the scenery is pretty and one does get to see some native animals, like monkeys, warthogs, and giant eland. The imported animals, some of them kept in separate enclosures, make the place a bit zoo-like, but we still thought it was worth a visit. Rose Lake isn’t pink any more since extensive rainfall diluted the salt water a few years ago. However, we were shown how the salt is extracted from the lake and brought ashore in little canoes, which was very interesting, and the excursion included a Jeep ride around the lake, through the dunes and along the beach of the Grande Côte, which was the highlight of our vacation for our nine-year-old. Lunch was served in a restaurant near the lake and was quite good. Gorée Island and Dakar: Gorée is a must-see! It is such a beautiful place with a sad and brutal history. The visit to the Slave House is quite sobering and contrasts starkly with the pretty sight of colorful houses and lush, blooming gardens around the island. Dakar is worth visiting as well. We had lunch in a nice little restaurant near Gorée’s harbour, the food was very good. Bush and Sine Saloum villages: this excursion usually only takes place on Wednesdays, because that is the day of the weekly market it comprises. However, the Wednesday we were there was Eid al-Fitr and everything was closed, so we moved the trip to the Friday. We thus missed the market and the visit to the local school and only stopped by a little Serer village on our way to the delta. We could have a look inside the village houses and yards, and the women showed us how millet is pounded for couscous. We then continued on to the Sine-Saloum Delta, where we took a long boat ride into the mangroves. I enjoyed that so much! The delta is so beautiful and peaceful. We saw many pelicans, cormorants, herons, and many other bird species, and gliding through the mangroves in the boat was total relaxation. We had lunch on a restaurant terrace overlooking the river. The food was excellent with fresh prawns for starters and delicious fresh fish for main course. We visited the giant Baobab near Joal and even climbed inside on our drive back to the hotel. I warmly recommend Sénégal Excursions and all the trips we took with them! Thank you Djibril, Mame, and Boniface for making our Senegal vacation unforgettable!Written April 22, 2024

- BobWE0 contributionsHuman Exploitation HistoryTransportation to Goree Island is reached via a ferry for about a 20 minute trip opposite Dakar. Between the 15th and the 19th century, Goree Island was the largest slave-trading center on the African coast. Ruled in succession by the Portuguese, Dutch, English and French, the island's architecture is unchanged during the last century. Located on the island are slave-quarters and the elegant houses of the slave traders. The "Slave House" serves as a reminder of human exploitation and was the loading point for thousands of slaves that were transported to other countries until the mid 19th century . A visit to the Slave House and within it's walls is the "Door of No Return" visited by USA Presidents and other dignitaries. A visit to the Slave House is a MUST for the first time visitor. Many restaurants and hotel accommodations are located on the island. Vendors are plentiful, especially in the plaza, for souvenirs and prices are definitely negotiable.Written May 1, 2023

- jezaal0 contributionsFathala game ParkWe left the Gambia via the ferry from Banjul to Barra on the other side of the river Gambia then over the border to Senegal. We drove to the animal park. We had to put a lot of insect repellent on as the park has some nasty mossies. It was nice to see animals in a natural environment with no preditors. It took ages to find the giraffes. Coming back to the Gambia on a smaller ferry really showed us the real Gambiam people. It was a good day out.Written February 6, 2018

As the sun slowly rises above the horizon, illuminating the calm waters of the Atlantic Ocean, I find myself on Petite CĂ´te beach, bathed in the golden light of dawn. This is the start of an unforgettable adventure through Senegal, a country steeped in cultural diversity, breathtaking landscapes and traditions rich in history.
My first stop takes me to Saint-Louis, a UNESCO World Heritage city, where the cobbled streets still resonate with echoes of the colonial past. I stroll through the historic district of the island of Saint-Louis, admiring the colorful architecture of French colonial houses and listening to the melodious sound of djembes coming from busy street corners.
From there, I head to the Delta du Saloum National Park, a biodiversity sanctuary where mangroves stretch as far as the eye can see and exotic birds soar above the tranquil marshes. I take a boat to explore the uninhabited islands, discovering picturesque fishing villages and tasting fresh seafood prepared by the hospitable locals.
My journey continues into the Lompoul Desert, where golden sand dunes stretch as far as the eye can see, offering a breathtaking landscape. I ride a camel for an excursion through the dunes, admiring the spectacular sunset that paints the sky in warm, vibrant hues.
After exploring the dry desert lands, I travel to the verdant Casamance region, where meandering rivers meander through lush forests and palm plantations. I wander through traditional villages, exchanging smiles and stories with the welcoming locals, and tasting the region's culinary delights, like delicious fish rice and spicy peanut sauce.
My trip culminates in Langue de Barbarie National Park, where sand dunes blend seamlessly with coastal mangroves and pristine stretches of beach. I walk along nature trails, watching sea turtles nesting on beaches and listening to the soothing rustle of waves crashing against the shore.
As my trip comes to an end, I realize that Senegal is much more than just a travel destination; it is a country where unforgettable encounters, breathtaking landscapes and enriching experiences come together to create memories that will last a lifetime.

This tour was just perfect. If you are planning to do this trip, I recommend that you just book and let the guides handle the rest. The activities included in this tour were simply amazing and it was a good balance. We're are normally used to having hectic days when in holiday but this tour gives you the opportunity to disconnect and simply enjoy the beauty of the tour as well. We had no issues understanding each other and the tour guide spoke very good English. The desert area was heaven!! Don't miss this opportunity, its one in a life time experience.

I spent hours looking for the appropriate experience, booked this and a couple of seconds after booking I received a cancellation email from the operator without an explanation for the cancellation. This means that my money will be blocked while the refund is processed, never mind the time spent exploring their adds, and some money (not much, but some) will be lost on currency conversions. Senegal Excursions strikes me as an unreliable experience provider, whimsical in their business organisation, and providing uncertainty rather than the safety of trust.

Amazing trip to get out of the city and see some great parts of Senegal. Our guide Moussa and driver Omar were amazing. The desert was a personal favourite and was super peaceful, had amazing food, and surprisingly good accommodation. Absolutely worth the price!
