About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- angellinal20190 contributionsHighly Recommended! Our guide, Jonathan was excellent. Very knowledgable, flexible, cheerful and a great conversationalist. His driving was also good and we spent a really enjoyable day exploring the city. I would highly recommend him to my friends and family!Written September 15, 2023
- Adrienne M0 contributionsPersonalized and thorough without any stress.Jonathan Rukundo is an outstanding guide. We had him for two excursions Kigali City tour and Lake Kivu. He is punctual, polite, a safe driver and speaks excellent English. Since we had already seen the Genocide Memorial and museum, we were able to customize our day to meet our desires. We started at the Kandt House and learned of the early history of colonialism in the country from the 1880-1930’s. The guide there was very informative and patient. The site is a must see for anyone interested in the history of this country. We went on to see some housing developments- Bwiza Riverside homes is an amazing project in collaboration with private African developers and the Rwanda government. It is building affordable housing that is environmentally sustainable and is educating the students about construction. We then stopped in downtown to do some personal shopping prior to going to lunch at Sundowner that is a local buffet with excellent food and service. We drove around the government district, embassy row, and on to see the Rebero community of large private homes and then the New Vision city planned community. Our last stop was the very large Kimiroko market where he led us to find exactly what we needed while also getting the flavor of the place. We love Kigali and will return. We will definitely request Jonathan next time.Written September 1, 2023
- awzucker0 contributionsSilverbird is the Best!We had such an amazing time touring Rwanda with Silverbird! Peter, Faith, and the whole team were so knowledgeable, communicative, and kind, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience! We saw Akagera National Park, Volcanoes National Park/gorilla trekking, and a Kigali city tour with Silverbird, and I absolutely recommend all of them! Thank you so much to the whole team at Silverbird for your incredible tours and kindness!!Written July 27, 2023
- maureenhE8877US0 contributionsGreat experience! It was a really special day. Our driver worked hard to get us around to see all the animals. We lingered in all the right places to enjoy the Majesty. And the details like the lunch stop, the coffee breaks and making sure there were bathrooms available when we needed them we're really helpful. Plus in car wifi! It's a very well designed day. Highly recommend.Written July 24, 2023
- Day20140 contributionsFabulous trip!I had an absolutely brilliant trip to Akagera. I saw elephants, hippos, giraffes, black rhinoceros, warthogs, baboons, impalas. zebras and so many more. It was extraordinary to get up so close, and see them in their habitat. A lot was good luck, but Justin is super knowledgeable and went out of his way to find their territories. He also made a long trip super fun!Written July 18, 2023
- taylorf2580 contributionsAmazing safari 100% recommendJustin was an amazing tour guide, we saw soo many animals! Amazing experience and memories, totally worth it. The car was super cool tooWritten July 17, 2023
- Linda R0 contributionsA special day, a great opportunity! We spent an exciting and meaningful day at Nyungwe National Park, canopy walk plus Gisakura tea plantation. We were lucky enough to see three different kinds of monkeys but the canopy walk in itself worth doing. Beautiful rain forest. The road from Kigali and back is looooong but I feel I saw so much on the way too that I would do it again. Silverbird Agency was very easy to communicate with, they were quick to answer and flexible with any possible vis major (l almost missed connections that would have effected the tour). Lunch at the national park was lovely, try the spice tea! Our guide Jonathan was comfortable to be around with, was happily answering questions, had great resources for the trip. Also on a long drive on quite difficult roads (lots of ups and downs and curves and people walking by the road, sometimes heavy traffic) it was very important that Jonathan was a patient and smooth driver, I felt safe on the road.Written July 16, 2023
- franliciat0 contributionsExceptional“I recently took one day Kigali city tour with Justin and was thoroughly impressed by both the exquisite professionalism and the impeccable service. Justin showcased a variety of innovative development of Kigali, Rwanda's capital beautiful presentation of the city & its beautiful History. The attention to detail and knowledge that Justin displayed were astonishing. He ensured that our Tour was the best; he’s exceptionally kind, & his attention to detail is impeccable. He embodies so much humidity & grace; what a memorable experience that we will cherish for a lifetime. If you are in Kigali, I highly recommend Justin. I assure you that you will have a wonderful experience and ensure satisfaction. What an unforgettable experience. Justin went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. Justin is a prime example of humility "I have three precious things which I hold fast and prize. The first is gentleness; the second is frugality; the third is humility, which keeps me from putting myself before others. I can genuinely say Justin exemplifies these qualities. Thanks to Silver Bird Agency for its exceptional staff.Written July 15, 2023

- Michelle C0 contributionsGreat gorilla trekking trip with SilverbirdLast July, I had booked a 2-day tour to Akagera with Silverbird Tours Agency, and it was one of the best experiences of my life. So when I was back in Kigali I went straight to Silverbird to book a 1-day gorilla trekking trip in Volcanoes National Park. I contacted Peter and he arranged all the details--including the ride up, purchasing the trekking permit, helping me get a COVID test, and lunch after the trek. Damascene was the Silverbird employee who drove me up to Silverbird and made sure everything ran smoothly - I didn't have to worry about a thing. I truly enjoyed his company and learning more about Rwanda from him. The Silverbird staff are professional yet personable and I trust them 100%. If I travel again to Rwanda for work, there's no doubt in my mind that I would go straight to SIlverbird to arrange any side trips - hopefully next time to Nyungwe! Thank you, Peter and Damascene, and all the staff at Silverbird! You make Rwanda feel like a home away from home. Best, MichelleWritten May 19, 2023
- Yolande-1234567890 contributionsspectacular journey to the Kivu LacThe trip and the team (thank you Faith!) was excellent. The journey was breathtaking with fantastic landscape and incredible spots: we stop in the local open market, walked down to a waterfall, deep dive in the traditional way of living and the beauty of the volcano landscapes, sailed on the Kivu lac... Great nature and honorable culture. Great team: very flexible, super professional, extra nice. I recommend the trip and the provider.Written May 8, 2023

- Y5466MBdariak0 contributionsA scenic and well-organised tourIt’s a very scenic tour with a rich and diverse program. I had a wonderful company of Justin (driver and guide) and Faith (guide trainee) - fun, laid back and very cordial. Justin was driving very safely, which I very much appreciated it. My highlight was the moment when we were floating in the middle of the lake with motor off. The tour was well-organised and the communication with the company was clear and easy.Written March 7, 2023

Our party of three was met by our guide at our Kigali hotel and spent Saturday and Sunday in Akagera National Park. We had a comfortable safari truck with a roof that opened up for ease of enjoying the landscape and wildlife. We enjoyed a game drive on Saturday afternoon with our guide, a night game drive and morning boat ride run by the park staff, and then a game drive on Sunday before heading back to Kigali. We booked our accommodation directly at Mantis Akagera Game Lodge which was a lovely stay. So much wildlife and nice spots to stop and take lunch/bathroom breaks in the park. Communication with the company was best via WhatsApp and the service was excellent. Highly recommend! And do not miss the night game drive or the boat trip.

"Our stay in various hotels turned out to be far more than we had anticipated. SilverBird Tour Agency .We originally planned an 8-day trip, but we extended it by 7 days so that we could visit Akagera National Park as well.
Our guide bosco was excellent; he took us to places that were not on our itinerary. He's a brilliant man who genuinely loves his heritage and did an outstanding job of making me love it as well. I must say he's a gem of a person, and I highly recommend that you plan your trip to Akagera National Park with SilverBird Tour Agency."

It’s hard to believe how much wildlife I saw in two days in Akagera National Park - rhinos, giraffes, several types of ungulates, elephants, hippos, alligators, and an incredible number of birds. (A few of the staff reported hearing lions in the vicinity but I didn’t actually see them.) Peter was my guide and went out of his way to locate animals and create an unforgettable experience. He took care of everything: the drive from Kigali, arranging lodging and food, and then leading the actual game drive itself within the park. I stayed at the Karange bush camp near the north end of the park up on a ridge overlooking two vast plains. It was safari camping at its best, with a classic green canvas tent and an outdoor shower open to the night sky and the Milky Way gloriously visible in that location with no light pollution to obscure it. People from the local communities staffed the camp and were friendly and helpful. Food—which was excellent—was served on a platform overlooking the plains and next to a fire pit with chairs all around. The next day, Peter and I headed out early and spent the day exploring the park. When the battery on my camera died, Peter again went the extra mile and drove us to the nearest lodge and asked the staff if I could charge it there. I felt fortunate, as I got some of my best shots of the day afterwards. Peter had also booked a late afternoon boat ride where I saw some incredible birds, including the Goliath heron. We then made our way back to Kigali and arrived by evening.
I truly enjoyed interacting with Peter and his employee Henry, who set up the trip for me and showed incredible patience when I asked about various options, all relatively last minute as I didn’t have much time to plan ahead. It was an honor to spend two days with Peter on the actual trip itself and learn about the park and Rwandan history from him. I highly recommend this company!
On Akagera itself: I was very impressed with African Park’s and the government’s management of the park. The wildlife populations seemed robust (indeed, we saw many babies and adolescents of several different species). And the lodging was top-notch. It’s all very well done!

This was a fantastic safari! I have been to Akagera three times, and Yvan was the best guide I have experienced! We were a group of seven and were able to see nearly all of the wildlife that we wanted to—even lions! Peter was easy to work with, and very transparent throughout the entire process to ensure that we were getting the best value for our money! I would highly recommend Silverbird if you are looking for a fun, affordable experience at Akagera National Park! We would use them again!
