- mwesi0 contributions8 day highlights of NamibiaOur journey began on 30 December, 2023 so we ended the year in Namibia and began 2024 there as well. We had a beautiful, quiet, star filled night on New Years Eve in Solitaire Desert Camp before climbing Dune 45 the next morning and proceeding to Deadvlei afterward. Cape Cross, with the beautiful and odiferous seals, was the highlight of the Swakopmund area. Camping inside Etosha NP was nice with the water hole a 5 minute walk from the tent to view whoever may be having a drink at the moment. On game drives we were able to find the two elephants in the area, a few rhinos, and a pride of 12 lions as well as springbok, zebra, and wildebeest. Our guide, Shawn, was very knowledgeable and a pleasure to travel with. He was great with out 5 year old daughter, took care of all arrangements in an efficient manner, and was a fine driver on the long journeys between areas. An experienced guide can make or break a tour such as this and he did a fantastic job.Written January 9, 2024
- sharronc20230 contributionsUnforgettable Amazing ExperienceWe initially booked this trip for April 2020 but as we all knew, disaster striked and the whole world went into lockdown! but after 3 years, we got back in touch w DTT n they accepted that we could still go on the tour n our deposit was still valid, we finally made the trip! We also finally met Fanuel and Notty whom we have been discussing and planning our trip (via whatsapp), both have been very helpful in providing the information we needed. On the safari trip itself, our guide - Lukus was just amazing! He took the time to explain everything to us at every site/sight we stopped to see. He was also very flexible with our request. We were lucky that we were the only 2 people on the trip, so if we saw something interesting or if we spotted an animal, Lukus happily obliged n stopped the car for us to take photos and wait for the animals to pop up again. The places we went to was just jaw-dropping amazing, the landscapes of Namibia is truly out of this world (and i've traveled to many places -Atacama dessert, the sahara, Tibet, n so forth, i think Namibia wins hands down. The landscape is so diverse, we went to Sossusvlei n Deadvlei, its like an artwork. Lukus hiked up the Big Daddy with us until we gave up n took the shortcut down. He also made sure we were safe all along the way. If we needed to get something, Lukus was more than happy to make a small detour to help us. We wanted to support a local Namibian travel company when we were looking for tours rather than an international travel conglomerate and I'm glad we made this decision. Thank you again, DTT for making this travel an unforgettable experience!Written October 29, 2023
- B2480SMhelenc0 contributionsNamibia Highlights Lodging Tour (7 Days)We had an amazing trip around Namibia. Climbing Dune 45 in Sossuvlei, Fat biking on the dunes at Swakopmund, walking amongst the seals at Cape Cross, wondering at the stunning and ever-changing landscapes before arriving at Etosha National Park. Here we saw many beautiful animals (Rhinos, Hyenas, Lions, Giraffe, Zebras, Elephants, a Cheetah and much more), in their natural environment. At short notice, Fanuel and his team at Discovery set up this brilliant trip for us with our fabulous guide Lucas. It is well organised, well communicated and Lucas was fantastic at finding animals and drove safely across the long distances. We highly recommend Discovery Tours, everything went like clockwork.Written December 16, 2019
- MatthewLiam0 contributions7 Days in the desert with SevenI had been wanting to spend some time exploring Namibia for a number of years. I finally had the chance and the resources to book a simple tour with Discovery Transfers and Tours. From start to finish the tour was well organised and communcation on the various things we needed or wanted was handled promptly and with a level of professionalism I haven’t had a long time. The tour itself was easy going and never felt rushed. We saw all the things we wanted to see and our guide (Seven) went out of his way to ensure we got to do what we wanted. I was a bit apprehensive with the camping side of things but the setup of camp each night and all the bits that go with camping were easy to get done and never caused any hiccups along the way. If you want a simple, well managed tour of some of the great highlights of Namibia, I can definitely recommend this tour. Ask for Seven if he’s available...he made the tour for us.Written November 29, 2019
- Dream7915650 contributionsSelf drivingBeautiful...many animals in close proximity. But do not take a car to travel due to rough roads a truck would be the best. We had seen only a small portion of the area, due to our transportation. Would love to return with a truck and see the entire area. I would recommend for people to see the area because we had seen a heard of elephants, zebras, giraffes, and many other animals.Written November 18, 2019
- JGurl4220 contributionsA life changing trip!My husband and I had the most incredible time traveling around Namibia with Discovery Transfer and Tour. We signed up for a group tour but ended up having a private trip with Shawn. It was really important for us to support a local company- and this company is one of five black-owned and operated tour companies in Namibia. Shawn and the other guides, that we had the privilege of meeting throughout our tour, were beyond knowledgable and really gave us insight into what Namibia is really like. Shawn picked us up from the hotel (even got there early!) and we sat down and went over the whole tour for the 8 days. He took my dietary issues seriously and I was accommodated throughout the entire trip. (It's easy to be guten- free in Namibia!) Highlights: - Learning about the Oshivambo culture and eating traditional foods at Hafeni - Climbing the dunes (Shawn is a master of driving in the sand) - Seeing the flamingos and exploring the coastal towns - Spotting a Rhino in Etosha - BBQing together and seeing the amazing southern hemisphere sky - and so much more! Bring binoculars and be prepared to be covered in dust the entire trip. The drought in Namibia is no joke, and everything gets covered. We can't wait to go back. We also would love to answer any questions!Written September 26, 2019
- euro3120 contributionsAwesome AfricaI would highly recommend Discovery for tours in Namibia! My tour was a little rearranged and I had Seven and Lukas for guides (and Shawn drove us back to Windhoek) All 3 of these guys were great guides- friendly, safe drivers and really wanting to show you the best of their country. I can't say enough positive things. They're also really good at finding wildlife! I would use Discovery Transfer and Tours the next time I'm in Namibia for sure!Written August 2, 2019
- Anthony D0 contributionsI want to relive this experienceI took a chance on this 3 year old company for the promise of smaller groups, and for a tour that started in the desert and ended in Etosha (as so many other tours do the reverse). In every way, I was surprised, delighted, and continually telling myself what a stroke of luck it was that I had chosen Discovery. I was in a group of 2 people, with a third person (who had a shorter tour) for half of that time. My tour guide was Seven; I am at a loss for words to convey how knowledgeable, well-spoken, talented, personable, and enthusiastic he is as a person and as a guide. He can speak about any subject with depth and consideration, a useful trait for those long drives between destinations. Also, a great campfire cook! In the desert sands, he has the driving skills to navigate his way along paths that others have become stuck in (and he kindly helps those who have become trapped). In Etosha, he could spot animals in the distance that I could not see, even after he pointed them out. While other vehicles would rush by without noticing, Seven would slowly roll up to a spot and point out what other tour drivers would miss, whether lions under a tree, or a rhino right beside the road but camouflaged in a mudbath. I saw some amazing creatures doing amazing things, and I credit the skill and enthusiasm of Seven in large part for this. I will be forever grateful for my experience with Discovery. Fanuel has a great staff at the Discovery Lodge, and even my time in Windhoek (which is not an exciting town) the days before and after the tour were terrific. Discovery will make arrangements on your behalf for any upgraded lodgings you wish to purchase. I recommend taking a private room at the lodge for Etosha - very worth it!Written May 8, 2019
