A well paced and fun tour hosted by two great guides. Walking at a gentle pace through the city it was informative and also lighthearted. Various stops along the way in hidden gems to taste various foods. I would certainly recommend this tour to anyone and the 2 guides made it that extra bit special.

A fun and informative tour of the capital, where we got to enjoy a broad mix of local bites, alongside the history of the city. Truly delicious food and an interesting and alternative way to learn more about the culture and people of the island. We left feeling thoroughly full and would really recommend to anyone, as long as they arrive hungry! We would love to take the tour in the other parts of the island, to experience something different again.
Cleanliness was also carefully considered, which was a real plus.

Adrian and Rudy were brilliantly entertaining guides on a tour that allowed us to experience Port Louis food the way the locals do. We got an excellent history of the city into the bargain. From the back street bakery to the corner dim sum bar - it was all excellent. We even got to visit the Fire Station master inside his office (which was a snapshot from the past) which was rather random but totally fascinating.
The rotis, dim sum, markets stall cane juice and spiral cut pineapple were our favourites (basically everything!!)
Thanks guys

I was super excited for this tour, as a massive foodie I love to try cuisines and experience a country's culture through it's food.

We met the tour guide at the suggested place and he was a really cool guy, I can't remember his name for the life of me but he was good chat.

We started the day by walking around some of the Port Louis centre discussing some history of the place and how things came to be the way they are.

Unfortunately some of the group were late and our tour guide had to delay in order to allow them to catch up which is annoying. We stopped at some shacks for our first food item and it was a paratha with kidney beans and a sweet tamarind sauce. This was absolutely delicious and reminded and good Indian food. I could have easily had more of those but we had to move on.

Next we walked a bit and stopped by a brick building which we found out was a patisserie. Went inside and it was nice to see the patisserie and how it worked. We were then each given a pastry of some kind, it tasted like banana and fig to me but I was unsure. It was ok, not amazing but not bad either.

Then we walked again and ended up at a Chinese food shack. In there we got various dumplings, some fried noodles and a chicken broth. The dumplings were ok, the fried noodles were tasty but the broth was the best thing, very light but still flavoursome. I wouldn't have recommended the dumplings.

Next we walked to the markets in Port Louis, this place is absolutely buzzing and it was nice to be in that atmosphere. We tried some fresh pineapple here and it was delicious and this was followed by some sugar cane juice, which was mixed with coconut, lime and granny smith apple. All super tasty.

Finally we ended up at a Chinese specialty sweet shop where we had sweet bean donuts. Not my cup of tea but nice to try anyway.

Now for the actual review part. I think the various stops were nice. But the tour ended up being maybe 2.5 hours nearing on 3 hours and we tried 5/6 things, I wasn't expecting a feast but I think a little more would've been good. I think the main thing which I really wished there was more of was creole food. The food tour showing us the diversity was great but the actual creole food was very little and that's what I am on a food tour in Mauritius for.

I also feel like those 5/6 things didn't warrant the ticket price. I don't mind paying for something brilliant but if its just ok then I will be a little disappointed.

And whilst our guide was great, the lack of food on the food tour was a little annoying. I also think that some of the food being hit and miss didn't help. I get that its subjective based on taste but I love alot of different types of food and some of this was just off the mark. More creole food is a must for me as well.

We thank you for sharing with us your perception of our tour. We will take your recommendation into consideration to make our tour better. We hope to welcome you in one of our other tour in a near future. Our Mahebourg food tour is actually more focused on "creole food" ;-).

Had a really good day with Adrien. The selection, order and pace of food was fantastic. There's lots of places we would not have spotted if we came alone.

Not only was the food good but the history and culture of Port Louis was also explained, and Adrien answered all of our group's questions.

Would thoroughly recommend the tour to sample some great food and learn a bit about the city.

I was returning to Mauritius after growing up there and looking forward to showing my wife around. one of the things I missed the most about Mauritius was the local street food, which is difficult to get in the UK. This food tour offered by taste buddies seemed like the perfect activity during our trip to mauritius, and it sure delivered!

We were hosted and guided by Dada who was friendly and funny. The walking tour is part food tour part history and culture of Port Louis. Dada was super knowledgable and shared many interesting stories about the city, and the food there. the various food items we tried were delicious, some I remembered from my previous years in mauritius and some I had not had before!

If you are visiting Mauritius, I highly recommend visiting Port Louis and booking a food tour with Taste Buddies, it was an excellent way to spend half a day.

We had Dada (David) as our guide and he was great. Spoke excellent English, was fun and knowledgeable. Also, he was punctual and met us at the right spot and the right time. The other people in the tour got stuck in traffic and were a few minutes late but Dada was flexible and they did not miss the tour so if you are freaking out that you might be late and miss the tour, don’t worry, just communicate and all will be well.

The tour is kind of a mini Mauritius history/city tour combined with great street food. Dada stops at each spot and tells you a little history of what is around you and it is fascinating. At first I thought, is this a history tour or a food tour? Answer: it’s both. The food is plentiful and delicious and you gain a lot of insight too. The walks between locations are essential as you walk off one meal by the time you get to the next one. If you just had the meals one after another you would be stuffed and probably not be able to finish them so the gaps work well and are neither too long nor too short.

The price is not cheap but given you would never know where to go without the inside knowledge and with the additional value Dada brings, it is more than worth it.

Highly recommend.

From beginning to end, our guides were fun, informative and super helpful. Bringing us to places we would never discover and experiencing food we would never forget. Come hungry because you will leave FULL! They brought sunshine to an otherwise rainy day in Port Louis, big thanks guys!

A great little tour sampling lots of different things around Port Louis! Adrian was lovely, really knowledgeable and a good sense of humour. The tour visited I think about 6 food places but along the way we stopped and heard lots of interesting facts about the city. A lovely morning :)

My husband and I are returning clients, we have already done 3 other food tours with Taste Buddies in the past. As usual, we enjoyed discovering some still unknown tastes of Mauritius in the company of Adrian and Dada and finished happy and wanting more! I sincerely recommend any of the street food tours offered by Taste Buddies, no matter if you are a local, a expat resident or a tourist. There is always something to discover by all.
