About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Jeremy C0 contributionsScam ArtistDo not trust this person, we paid over $5,000 Australian dollars and receive nothing. It has been over 15 months now and he promises the world to pay you back and nothing, Fortune is a total scam artist. We contact the Zimbabwe government and they also said they can do nothing. All I can say just do your research and be careful. I would not recommend Forche tours and travel.Written September 27, 2024
- FellowTraveler767550 contributionsCome and See!!!It was the most fantastic experience that I’ve ever had. Whatever you see there, it’s gonna be more than you think. Also I really enjoyed very exotic experiences with my husband thanks to the professional guide Fortune. I strongly recommend this trip.Written May 16, 2023
- m_ireo1980 contributionsExcellent tour and great guidesAt our recent visit to Vic Falls with you we were collected at airport and communication was very good. The friendliness of the guides was very good and their knowledge of the different locations were excellent. We found the guide's talk at the statue of Livingstone at the Falls was heartfelt and very informative. Indeed the Dr. Livingstone museum was very interesting also. Fortune's recommendation of the helicopter ride was spot on, as it was out of this world. We had a few hours to spare & you gave us the opportunity to cross the bridge to visit Zambia. The Pioneer Hotel was very comfortable, excellent meals and friendly staff. The Culture evening you recommended was very enjoyable, as we were dressed in traditional dress and given the opportunity to join in at the end playing the drums & dancing. Over all, our view is that we would certainly recommend this tour.Written April 21, 2023
- 982belindac0 contributionsLiar, thief and conman…In July 2022, we contacted Fortune and Forche Tours & Travels to arrange an 8 night tour of Zimbabwe and Botswana. Fortune appeared to be very helpful and accommodating and from the reviews I had read, it seemed like we had found the right tour company for us. Unfortunately, as soon as Fortune received our full payment, the communication became less frequent and Fortune became less available and helpful. We discovered another travellers reviews of Fortunes business practice so we contacted him again and asked that he send through a confirmed itinerary. Once we eventually received that, we contacted the hotels on the list only to discover that none of them had been paid for. We asked the hotels the final payment due date and we contacted Fortune again, this time by phone to ask him to confirm that payment would be made by these dates. He reassured us that payment would be made and we had nothing to worry about. Well, that was a lie. Payment was never made and when we asked the hotels and lodges for the costs of the accommodation so we could pay, we discovered that there was no way we could afford to pay for them! We were forced to cancel all the hotels and lodges that Fortune had booked and with only two weeks before we were due to fly out, we had to scramble to not only borrow money to cover the costs but to also find new, cheaper accommodation, tours and transfers. One of the Lodge managers has advised us that Fortune and Forche Tours & Travel have caused issues for them in the past with unpaid accommodation and guests cancelling because they lost confidence in Fortune. We have now asked Fortune for a refund of the money he stole from us on a number of occasions and he has either made excuses as to why he can’t refund the money or he has just out right ignored our messages and emails. My advise… STAY AWAY FROM FORTUNE AND FORCHE TOURS & TRAVEL and if you have already booked, ask for a refund and take your business elsewhere.Written February 24, 2023
- MoeB10260 contributionsI do NOT recommend this company. Here is why...My husband and I booked a safari for two weeks in Botswana and Zimbabwe directly with owner Fortune Ndlovu of Forche Tours and Travel. We spent months talking with Fortune over e-mail, going over every detail of our trip. We were super clear what we wanted and where we wanted to go and asked for confirmation all along the way to be certain he understood exactly what we wanted, Fortune is a great salesman, he pushed hard and he is actually a likable guy, but you need to know that he will promise you everything and deliver only something somewhat in the ball park of what he promises you, at best. In my opinion, you need a lot more than that when you are planning a trip of a lifetime and forking over $10,000 for it (for two people)! Let me be clear. This was not our first safari and we know that in the bush things can go wrong. That is not our complaint with Fortune. Our complaints with Fortune are due to his not delivering what he promised in the form of where we would be going and what was included and not included. Our complaint has to do with his nonchalant way of doing business, of taking your money and not paying for your accommodations and activities, etc. as promised and leaving you stressed and anxious as well as feeling cheated and frustrated. Before, I offer the details of our trip so that you can make your own decision about this company, I will say that Fortune was friendly and he did perform fairly well for the 3 days we were on his home turf in Victoria Falls, but other than that it was more common than not that whatever he told us was not going to happen - certainly not the way he said it would, and often times payment was a problem. If you book with Fortune you will need to be prepared to talk to him multiple times a day to make sure things go as planned and insist he square away payment for your accommodations every time you go to check out. You will need to play the intermediary on a fairly regular basis. To me, that is a $5,000 trip, not a $10,000 one. The reason for hiring a company like Forche Tours and Travel, in my mind, is so that you feel comfortable and secure and that everything is being professionally handled for you while in a foreign land, but if this is what we thought we were paying for we picked the wrong company indeed! (And do not expect reimbursements or partial refunds for missed portions of your trip or things you end up paying for that were supposed to be included - because you will not get them.) On to the details... IMPORTANT NOTE: The whole goal of this safari was to try to see wild dogs so the game reserves we were scheduled to visit were very important. Although we knew we might not see them at all, we specifically chose the reserves where we knew the likelihood of spotting them was the highest. Day 1 - Fortune was supposed to meet us in Maun at our hotel and we were to get our "orientation" and be taken shopping for our welcome "safari drinks". WHAT REALLY HAPPENED: We got a communication from Fortune that we would be going straight to the safari bush camp from the airport and he would see us at the hotel on day 3. A guide with approximately 5 years experience named Emanual from Tamog Safaris picked us up at the airport in and old open safari vehicle. We asked about seatbelts and he said we did not need them. We then proceeded to take a long drive to camp feeling quite unsafe as we bounced around on the old seats while trying to hold on. Days 1 and 2 - We were scheduled to be in Makgadikgadi Salt Pans with a day trip to the Nxai Game Reserve. Camp was good and the staff excellent. We liked our guide Emanual, but he didn't say much during the game drives. We saw some good game at Makgadikgadi, but we NEVER SAW THE SALT PANS and WE NEVER WENT TO THE NXAI GAME RESERVE. Day 3 - Emanual dropped us off at the Maun Lodge around 10am and said he would see us tomorrow after breakfast. Let me just say that there is nothing in Maun. We were not taken for our safari drinks. The pool was half filled with dirty water and not operable. There was only one restaurant. Fortune never showed up. Worse, the front desk said that neither our room nor our meals (all of which was supposed to be included) had been paid for and that the "operator" was not answering their e-mails and so we would have to pay the bill ourselves. We did eventually get hold of Fortune and after a couple of emails and phone calls (including us having to call him and give our cell phone to the front desk asking them to speak to him) our room was covered but not our lunch and no drinks. We paid $100+ bill upon leaving the next morning. Days 4, 5 and 6 - Emanual picked us up in a newer safari vehicle. The vehicle had seatbelts but still was not equipped with a radio like most safari vehicles are. (These are critical for drivers to communicate and share the locations of various animals as well as for emergencies.) We were scheduled to spend three nights in the Moremi Game Reserve (the best place to try to see the wild dogs). Instead we were taken to Kwai Community Campground. The first day there our driver Emanual from Tamog Safaris tried to cross the river. He failed. The truck stalled and the engine died and the cab filled with water. It was about an hour before dark. The satellite phone that was on board for emergencies had not been charged. Emanual had no tow rope in the vehicle. We were stranded. Thankfully in the bush people always stop to help! Long story short, we got back to camp late that night thanks to good Samaritans. The safari vehicle was towed back to camp and they worked on it (rather noisily) outside our tent for a good portion of the night. They never got it started again. The next morning we were taken in the staff vehicle for our game drive. We still had not gone to Moremi Game Reserve. Our driver mention it would be our last night in the area. We began to get very suspicious and demanded to talk to Fortune. Eventually we called him on the satelitte phone but we were not allowed any privacy. Our guide put the call on speaker and listened to the entire conversation. We complained about still being 20 kilometers from the entrance of Moremi, of not staying in the reserve as promised and of there being no mention of going there or on our promised Morkoro Adventure. Fortune wanted to speak to Emanual but Emanual would not speak to him despite him standing right next to us. Fortune hurried off the phone saying he was crossing the border but would fix things. What ensued were several scenes where Emanual would call his boss Mock and put us on the phone. We heard apologies and excuses, but WE NEVER GOT TO MOREMI. We did get to the Morkoro Adventure but we had to pay for it out of our own pocket. (Fortune did pay us back after asking a few times.) Afterwards, we spent a third night at the community campground waiting for the old original safari truck to be brought back to us to move on to Savuti. Again, despite our complaints and Fortune's promises WE NEVER GOT TO MOREMI. It was becoming apparent to us that either or both Fortune and Tamog Safaris was giving us the cheap version of a tour and trying to convince us we were in places we were not. We were getting the run-around. After listening nearly non-stop to Emanual tell us not to tell his boss this or that and that he was gong to get into trouble (this was his daily lament- along with his plans to open his own safari business with only Chinese guests allowed because they bring their own food and never complain) we finally got angry and said that we knew how to read the perfectly clear road signs ( that were in English) and we knew whether or not we had entered a game reserve (all of which was super obvious as you always have to stop and register at the headquarters and a fee must be paid by the operator for each guest). We were now anxious, angry and completely distrusting of both Fortune and Tamog Safaris. Days 7 -8 Savuti National Park. Everything went fairly well here although the complaints of getting into trouble by Emanual and having the phone thrust at us to talk to his boss, etc were getting really old. On the last day, they ran out of wine for dinner and ice for the coolers because, according to them, Fortune told them they were only staying 6 nights total with them rather than the 7 our itinerary stated. That wasn't the worst of it though. After nearly 7 hours on the sandy dirt roads, the safari vehicle ran out of gas. (This even though I had specifically asked about our gas reserves prior to leaving as none of the vehicles gauges worked and the engine light was on.) We were once again stranded due to the inexperience and bad judgement of our guide and these tour companies. We sat in the blistering sun in a swarm of flies waiting to be rescued by a good Samaritan once again..No food had been provided all day. We were hungry, tired and totally fed up! While we waited for rescue - AGAIN - Emanual complained about his boss blaming him for everything and then once again his boss called and things went from bad to worse. This time on the phone with Mock he told us that Fortune had not finished paying him for the portion of the trip he rendered and that he thought Fortune was trying to cheat us. Mock warned us to check everything Fortune said and confirm all reservations. Fortune was supposed to be at the next hotel in Chobe but Mock said he doubted he would really be there. He even told us that he just heard from another guide that some more of Fortune's clients had arrived in Botswana but that Fortune had not paid the other organization for their safari so he didn't know what was going to happen to them. Emanual added even more to this anxiety producing conversation by telling us that he had spoken to another guide he knew who was at the Chobe Lodge and Fortune was indeed not there. I started thinking of ways we could get out of the country and back home and whether we had enough cash (since credit cards are not as widely accepted there as they are in the USA.) I wondered where the closest US Embassy was and realized my mistake of not checking for that information before traveling ...Eventually we got rescued again and Emanual drove us the rest of the way to the Chobe Lodge. Fortune was indeed waiting for us there - full of apologies and blaming Mock and Tamog Safaris for everything that had gone wrong up until now but NOT offering any kind of partial refund or compensation for all the missed game reserves as any reputable US company would have done. Instead he told us about the horrible review he just got on TripAdvisor and how he "desperately needed a good review" or at least for us to 'not talk about' our trip. We still don't know who was lying more for that first week - Fortune or Tamog - but it really doesn't matter. At this point we just hoped to get through the second week without any major problems. Day 9-10. Chobe Lodge was nice. Fortune did pay for this accommodation and meals without incident. (Perhaps because we had an hour long sit-down with him where we told him on no uncertain terms that we held him totally responsible for everything that went wrong and his total mismanagement of our trip.) He arranged for us to go on a morning game drive to Chobe which was not great but we were happy to be safe. For the record, we were supposed to be on a private game drives for the duration of our trip and the Chobe drive was just a hotel activity crammed with other people. Not very fun. Not very authentic either. The restaurant was excellent though and the grounds were nice. The following day we had a river boat ride which we really enjoyed. Fortune picked us up on day 11 to head to Victoria Fall - his hometown. Day 11-12 Victoria Falls. Things went well here. We saw the falls on foot with a local guide and took a helicopter over the Falls. Fortune showed up each time as promised. The second day there we were headed just over the Zambia border to do the Devil's Pool activity. Fortune said he would be with us. He was not, but instead sent us with another person. We were nervous about being picked up after the activity in the foreign country with no access to call Fortune but it all worked out. Later that night Fortune dropped us off at the Boma dinner with was fun. Days 13-14 Fortune was supposed to accompany us to Hwange National Park. He did not. Once again he changed things and sent us with yet another driver. We got stopped in a police road block on the way but our young driver handled it well and we made it safely to the next Inn. Yet another game drive company with a young fairly inexperienced guide picked us up for our game drives here. We were assured repeatedly by Fortune before leaving Victoria Falls that these would be private game drives (which is what we paid for). Well, guess what? They were not! Not only did we have to stop at two other places to pick up and drop off passengers, but we had to pay additional fees to get into the National Park! We had paid Fortune months prior for all game reserve and park fees but so far our guides had refused to take us to the reserves and this one group tour that was supposed to be private made us pay our own fees AND FORTUNE DID NOT REIMBURSE US despite us calling him - AGAIN! True to form, upon checkout, Fortune had not paid our bill. Again, we talked to him on the phone and endured the embarrassing scene with the front desk staff and management. Again we paid for half of our meals as he had not covered all of them despite out trip being "all inclusive". At this point we just wanted to get home! Our driver brought us to the airport and we sighed in relief to have made it safely to the airport after all the stress and anxiety of this trip and to be going home! By the way, I NEVER DID SEE A WILD DOG (with the exception of the one behind a fence at the rescue center our last driver made a brief stop at for me). Of course, I knew this was always a possibility. Wild dogs are endangered and shy, but that's not what upset me. What upset me was NEVER EVEN GOING TO THE GAME RESERVES WE PAID TO GO TO TO TRY TO SEE THEM! This was a very disappointing stressful - and expensive - trip that had sadly soured me on Africa. We LOVED our previous two safaris to Kenya and Tanzania and would highly recommend them. We are grateful to have had those wonderful ,professionally managed safaris and would recommend them to anyone, but I can not - I WILL NOT- recommend Forche Tours and Travel. No one should have their dream safari vacation go like this one went for us. No one. My husband and I agree: Fortune should stick to taxiing people around Victoria Falls and leave the safari tours to the professionals. ONE LAST THING: If you have booked or are thinking of booking your safari with Forche Tours and Travel, do yourself a favor and make sure they are licensed and in good standing with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority. All reputable, legal, tour operators are supposed to be registered with them. When I last checked Fortune's company was not listed with them. He, of course, had an excuse for that. Check crossing in the mail sort of excuse...Written September 11, 2022
- mtbski2470 contributionsBeware of this companyDo not book with this company. My wife and I began communicating with Fortune about 5 months ago after reading mostly positive reviews on Trio Advisor. Unfortunately, upon arrival to Botswana, we quickly realized Fortune had not intended to fulfill or render the services we paid for and the itinerary promised in our contract Due to this, my family of 4 was left on our own to navigate Africa and basically pay for everything (again) on our credit card and contacted our credit card company to notify them of the issue. Unfortunately our dream trip abruptly turned into a nightmare as we learned that the promised deposits to hold our bookings were never paid for. Once we arrived in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe where Forsche Travels operates. we went directly to the police to open a report and also contacted the tourism authority. We also contacted the U.S. Embassy for further guidance. Instead of sightseeing in Victoria Falls we were in and out of court as this became a criminal case. If you booked with this company, my advice is to contact your credit card company. Be prepared to pay for everything out of pocket and document & save all receipts. Fortune admitted guilt to the police that he took our money, spent it, and longer has it. If this happened to us, a family with two young children, it would happen to any trusting party booking with Forsche Travels.Written July 21, 2022
- FarAway6886600 contributionsFortune is a criminal and took $11 k from American FamilyWe booked with Fortune from Forche Travels in Zimbabwe back in February 2022. We paid him over $11,000 for an 11 night/12 day safari to Botswana and Zimbabwe. He sweet talked us up through the very end. When we arrived in Boswana, no one was there to greet us at the Maun airport because Fortune did not pay for our luxury camping excursion to the salt pans; therefore we were unable to go. Then we learned he did not pay Kwando Safaris. Upon arriving at our next destination that we had to pay out of pocket, Fortune showed up at Chobe Safari Lodge and told us our next location was cancelled due to all his mistakes and dishonesty so he “upgraded” us to the Elephant Eye in Hwange. At this time he was assuring us everything would be okay. Obviously a week in without Fortune paying for anything promises in our itinerary and contract, we then called to see if he indeed booked the Elephant Eye, which we learned was also a lie. At that point we knew we were in danger and with a criminal taking advantage of a family with young children. We have documented every step of the way, have all the documents, all text message exchanges, as well as the first 4 owners and general managers behind us that Fortune is a scam artist. A police report will be made today and tomorrow we are seeking more help from the tourist authority and the U.S. Embassy. We do not want anyone else to get robbed from their money or their once in a lifetime trip to Africa. He is the worst man I have ever met and is owner of this company. He finally admitted to management at our last encounter with him who told him how awful this is, that he does not have our money and screwed up. If you have any questions, please respond and I will email you. I hope Fortune never has the opportunity to hurt anyone else.Written July 19, 2022

- Yaz z0 contributionsGreat value for money!I booked with Viator but you can also book direct with Forche I think. They're super communicative. You can WhatsApp with them and ask any questions. They're punctual, organized and very professional. It all went smoothly from hotel pickup to dropoff and even across the border (maybe cuz it was wet season). I only had 4 others on my tour, which was great. I felt comfortable and safe the whole time. We started with the safari and then had a great lunch buffet at a nice hotel and then we proceeded with our Chobe cruise. It rained on us on the boat, and they didn't have proper rain gear for us, so bring your own if the weather calls for rain. One of the tourists on the safari was scared of elephants and hippos and kept telling the driver to not get too close. Don't let someone like that ruin your experience. The guides will tell you exactly what to do and how to be safe. We saw lions, hippos, giraffes, impalas, baboons, buffalo, and tons of elephants. It was fantastic and I'd do it all over again!Written February 21, 2020
- Miss_Mujati0 contributionsBe aware!! DO NOT USEI would not recommend using Forche Tours and Travel. Having booked various activities through the owner Fortune, I would strongly recommend anyone considering using this tour operator to go with another reputable company. Initially my group of 7 booked airport transfers, a Chobe day trip, a breakfast cruise and dinner at the Boma. This was paid in full on arrival. The operator contracted by Forche for the Chobe day trip in Botswana was not paid in full by Fortune and our activity was subsequently disrupted. Instead of starting our tour at the national park, we were taken to the tour operators office in Kasane. For clarification purposes, the operator conducting the day trip in Chobe was excellent. During the lunch, we were approached by a lady whom we do not know, she asked for myself and said there was a phone call for me. Upon coming on the phone, Fortune by some way of an excuse / explanation said there was an outstanding balance that needed to be paid as there a miscommunication on monies. I agreed to paying the said outstanding balance after Fortune assured me that upon my return to Zimbabwe that day I would receive my money. I did not receive my money (to date). Understanding the monetary challenges of Zimbabwe, I did not press Fortune for the money for almost a week until it became clear he had no intention of paying me back. During the said week I saw Fortune on 2 seperate occasions, he told me he was trying to get together the money and I was understanding, On my day of leaving Zimbabwe I went to the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority and reported my issue. I explained that I also wanted to make a police report which they supported. I then went to the Police station, where he was requested by the Police to attend immediately. He attended still with no money. Post police report I was advised it was a civil matter and needed to be handled by the courts. That is where we are at the time of me making this review. I would not recommend his services, nor use him again. Please be aware. This was a terrible end to an amazing birthday trip. AVOID!!! AVOID!!! AVOID!!!Written January 29, 2020

- aniemartin0 contributionsHelping Hand in ZimbabweFortune helped me so many times during my six day stay in the Victoria Falls area. I first met him when I was stood up for my tour to Chobe. Fortune spent time with me trying to figure out where my tour operator was, what they could do to help, and eventually scheduled me on his tour for the following day. I was so pleased, I canceled all my other tours and rebooked the same ones through him. He helped me get videos from my white water rafting tour, and he picked me up every day. He strives to be the best tour operator he can possibly be, and I sincerely wish him well in the future.Written October 15, 2019
- Bob L0 contributionsForche tours. -Outstanding tourist operator in Victoria FallsFortune and his team offered customised support during our time in Victoria falls. He looked after our every need which included short and long transfers, booking accommodation, arranging and conducting tours in the town and at the game parks as well as driving to venues on request. Fortune was born in Victoria Falls and makes one feel totally secure and relaxed. His long term experience in the hospitality and tourism industry shines through with his friendly and easy going manner. Highly recommended.Written September 19, 2019
- mjbruins000 contributionsExcellent full service professional tour companyI rarely write reviews, but when the service I receive is so great, I really want to tell others about it. This is an excellent tour company that is full service from the initial email to the drop off at the airport for your return trip home. I contacted Fortune and inquired about options and tours for 3 days and nights in the Victoria Falls area. He responded quickly with a wonderful personalized itinerary that was just perfect. He was very responsive to all of my follow up questions (to which there were many as I was a first time visitor to the area). The service from our landing at the airport to the transfers each day between activities to the tours and activities themselves that Fortune arranges with or does himself was top notch. Fortune was also an incredible resource once on the ground helping us plan our dinners. He listened to what we were looking for and recommended the perfect spot for drinks and dinner. Our itinerary consisted of the following: a wonderful sunset cruise on the Zambezi River which had beautiful scenery, a great boat with drinks and heavy appetizers. Definitely recommend. A day in the Chobe with a morning game drive, a delicious lunch and an afternoon boat cruise where you went right up to the animals on the river. Our guides knew what they were doing and had a really fabulous day. Highly recommend. The transfers and immigration between countries was a breeze. Day 3 was a tour of both the Zambia and Zimbabwe side of the falls, lunch at Victoria Falls Hotel and a helicopter ride in the afternoon over the falls. All of this is a must do to really experience the beauty of the falls. We have knowledgeable guides for each excursion, top notch service, easy transfers between activities If you are looking for a knowledgeable, full service, high quality service provider for all thinks Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe and the entire surrounding area, then Forche Tours and Travel is you one-stop shop. I was definitely excited but a little nervous about visiting the area given it being my first time in all of Africa and I am so extremely thankful and lucky I found Forche Tours and Fortune!Written September 16, 2019
- Excursion365301926050 contributionsBest Experience for VictoriaExcellent Service. They were flexible with my delayed flight (6+ hrs) and accommodated the entire itinerary without compromising on the items. The Driver was very courteous. Fortune (The Owner) assisted us during our entire trip. He was there to receive us at the airport. I would recommend them to every one. The selected hotel was very good. However the dinner option in town were better for us. Forche travels took us to town waited till we had dinner then dropped us at the hotel everyday. They did not have to do that, but they did. On the last day, our flight was at 6pm, and our reservation for Devil's Pond was at noon. They were able to re-arrange the trip so that we were able to get to the hotel before checkout time to shower and get ready for our long flight back. Really liked them and would recommend them for all.Written September 12, 2019

This September I travelled to Zimbabwe and Botswana with Forches company. I can honestly say it was an amazing experience.
The journey started right after landing at Victoria falls. The choice of accomodations was perfect. I had the chance to visit beautiful national parks and everything was well organised. The transfers between the countries/national parks worked perfect and were always on time. Also a huge thank you to Lee who drove me all the way from Hwange to the border in Botswana. He was always very kind.
The Victoria falls are genuinely mind blowing!
Would recommend any time!

We had a great time enjoying the nature of Victoria falls, national parks with nice support with our tour guide Mr Fortune. Hope we can visit Zimbabwe again in the near future!
