About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Toru O0 contributionsDefinitely a mustA series of archaeological sites along the railway leading to Sidi Bou Said. Luckily many of the sites are located near each other. Admission allows visits to several sites at once. Two days are enough to visit most of the major sites.Written May 19, 2024

- 591kimberlyt0 contributionsCheck out Tunisia with Chekib!Chekib was our guide and we felt so fortunate to have his time. He spoke great English, one of his many languages, and had knowledgable answers for all of our questions. His positive attitude and insights were welcome and appreciated. We'd highly recommend an excursion with him.Written June 3, 2023

- justinecJ1727NB0 contributionsEXCELLENT GUIDE in Tunis! Book this tour!We initially had some difficulty finding our guide Chekib, but he patiently and thoroughly described where we would need to go to meet him and our driver Aymen. We apparently need to walk about another block to where there is an arch to the right end of the street of the port exit. We were greeted with a smile and got into a clean and quiet sedan. We visited the ruins of Carthage and beautiful Sidi Bou Sayid. Chekib was very knowledgeable and fun in his historical retelling of the cities' stories. Even taking time to sit and relax with us, indulging in a delicious local fried pastry and a cup of mint almond tea. We were given some free time to explore and some suggestions for places to shop but never felt pressured. Aymen was a skilled and safe driver, picking us up at each location in a convenient spot. I would highly recommend this tour.Written May 9, 2023
- moaazbinm0 contributionsCulture excursion in TunisA true Mediterranean gem, steeped in both ancient and medieval history. Places like Carthage and Old Medina can more than satisfy the appetite of any culture-vultures out there. Sidi Bo Saeed is another unspoilt little town, which rightly deserves the epithet of ‘Santorini’ of Tunis. People generally are friendly and welcoming. Travelling from any developed western country, one may find prices of food and other commodities, albeit with tourist rates, quite agreeable. However, experience of going through security and immigration, especially on your way out could be daunting. Authorities, particularly custom’s officials can be overzealous and downright rude whilst carrying out so called spot checks. A person of colour is also asked about their true origin i e if they are ‘originally’ from India or Africa etc; something, which is frowned upon in any civilised country and rightly considered racist.Written May 1, 2023
- AADSWJ0 contributionsFabulousThere is a public train from Tunis Marine TGM to all these places. The fares are so low which not to worth to mention it. I don't understand why nobody promote this route at all. Carthage ruins are loosely scattered around. The best stop is Carthage Hannibal. The ticket allows you to visit 8 ruins. Some are impressive, some are less. If you hire a taxi by hour you can visit all. Otherwise those bigger ones can be done by foot. Sidi Bou Said is a good place to relax after all the ruins. Walking up to the famous cafe then walk down to the marina. Stopping in between for coffee, lunch or dinner. It was so beautiful I went back again for a whole day. Next time I will stay in Sidi Bou Said few nights for a changeWritten March 11, 2023
- Arne E0 contributionsTwo part adventure!Mehar was an able host, answering questions and bringing us to the good parts of each site, but not bogging us down with information. My wife hit it off with him, and Mehar offered lots of additional advice for our stay. The tour itself was a fascinating mix of history from Carthage through Roman and eventually French occupation; we ended the tour having a coffee and local "doughnut" in Sidi Bou Said which was incredibly memorable! We've had far more expensive tours that were less enjoyable - we definitely recommend this tour!Written December 29, 2022

- Z8901TSsoniac0 contributionsTUNISIA GUIDED BY COMPASS TRAVEL IS THE BEST TRAVEL DESTINATIONOften seen as simply a beach destination, Tunisia has a bucketful of surprising tourist attractions and things to do for those that venture off the sandy shores. This is North Africa wrapped up into one bite-sized package, with vast Sahara dunes, mammoth ancient ruins, and exotic cities that are home to a sprawling tangle of souks. Tunisia was Rome's breadbasket, and the cultural riches the Romans left behind are more than enough reason to visit. But the history of Arab Empires has also bestowed the country with some of the region's most beautiful examples of Islamic architecture. When you've craned your neck at Kairouan's minarets and played gladiator at El Djem, it's time to head into the Sahara to sample the raw, empty beauty of the desert. The sun-soaked beaches of the Mediterranean coastline, fringed by palms and lapped by gentle waves, will still be waiting for you when you get back.Written February 17, 2020
- Voyager0120190 contributionsArchaeological Site of Carthage - UNESCO World Heritage CentreFounded by the Phoenicians, Carthage is an extensive archaeological site, located on a hill dominating the Gulf of Tunis and the surrounding plain. ... During the lengthy Punic wars, Carthage occupied the territories that belonged to Rome, which then destroyed its rival in 146 AD. Carthage produced a warrior and strategy genius in the person of Hannibal, the navigator-explorer Hannon, and a famous agronomist, Magon. Carthage has always nourished universal imagination through its historic and literary renown. +++++++++ Sidi Bou Said is a town in northern Tunisia located about 20 km from the capital, Tunis. Named for a religious figure who lived there, Abu Said al-Baji, it was previously called Jabal el-Menar. The town itself is a tourist attraction and is known for its extensive use of blue and white. It can be reached by a TGM train, which runs from Tunis to La Marsa.Written January 6, 2020
Thank you Fami for your excellent guide on the historical places as well as warmest hospitality during our tour. Poor communication with the English speaking tour guide delayed our pickup 20 mins. Other tours picked up at the port but this one wasn't allowed in. We thought we had arranged a private tour but there was another couple. We skipped the Medina due to security warnings from the ship. Sidi bou Said was very crowded and prices were more than double last year. And the taxis were doing the same tour for half the price. Overall poor communication and value.

Typical neighborhood, beautiful houses with typical doors,
Very commercial streets with more or less aggressive merchants So we negotiate!
It climbs steep too
To stroll and take the picture at the cafes of the delights, like in Patriiiick's song.
