- nickhT389BQ0 contributionsAmazing Safari ExperienceWe recently returned from an excellent 10-day trip in Tanzania, organised by Makasa, and would thoroughly recommend them to any budding safari-goers. After reviewing a sample itinerary, we had a video call with Zara from Makasa, to tailor our trip to what we wanted to do. In a relatively short period of time we were able to visit three different areas (Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro and Serengeti) plus have a few days at the beach in Zanzibar to recover from long days on bumpy tracks! All the pick-ups / transfers etc worked effortlessly, allowing us to fully enjoy our trip. The choice of accommodation was varied, including three nights in the middle of the Serengeti - an experience not to be missed. The highlight, however, was the excellent Makasa staff we had along with us. I’m not sure if it is standard (almost every other car we saw only had one person doing the driving and guiding) but we were lucky enough to have both a driver and a guide. Our guide Daudi was extremely knowledgable - I don’t think we found a question he couldn’t answer - and was also amazing at spotting the wildlife. Both Daudi and our driver Nicholas were excellent company, with a very good level of English. Overall we would thoroughly recommend Makasa, particularly to first-time Safari-goers like us, looking to experience the best that Tanzania has to offer.Written July 21, 2024
- ensby770 contributionsGreat service, loved our guides, great to get a very customade trip. Excellent communication.Thank you so much for organising our very customade trip for me and my family. So thankful to be able to go back to the places we have lived, worked, gone to school an visited so many years ago. Our experienced and friendly guides Godwin and Jamal made it all very special. They very patient, good sense of humour and tons of knowledge. We will miss them😊 Beautiful lodges to stay, excellent food and we got to see all Big five. Godwin got to go on safari in Arusha and Jamal finally got to take a look around Babati.( why Babati?🤣, Jamal will get this!) He even found a relative 😄 So again, thank You for organising a lifetime of memories. Maren with family♥️Written July 4, 2024
- Olo_Haw0 contributionsHoliday of our lifeWe first contacted Makasa in 2020. We planned our itinerary but unfortunately due to covid and other things we didn't go to Tanzania. Finally, this year we finally managed to fullfill our dreams. Compared to 2020 we extended our safari to 14 days and it was a very good decision. Choosing Makasa was absolutely bullseye. Everything was as good (or even better) as it was supposed to be. Our guide (Jacob) was a perfect man in a perfect place. Always helpful and tollerant to our "special" wishes. Also Zara was perfect in doing all the job concerning finding and booking accomodation. Always helpful and ready to take into consideration all our wishes. If we go to Africa again, we will definitely choose Makasa again 😊Written July 4, 2024
- jka7670 contributionsAmazing nature with excellent Masaka-guide Humphrey. We had a perfect safari with Makasa-guide Humphrey. Thanks to Humphrey we did not only see everything and more than we expected (including the Big Five and part of the Great Migration), but also we enjoyed a pleasant and safe stay in this beautiful country. Humphrey is well educated and experienced in nature, so we learned a lot. Highly recommended!Written March 26, 2024
- Peter141640410 contributionsGreat experienceThe trip was booked by my parents before my wife and I decided to join them. So we followed the program my parents made. We would certainly have done some things different. The first 3 days was a lot of travelling. First the 9 hour flight from A'dam to Kilimanjaro. We fly BC but still it is exhausting. Our guide Jamal waited for us at the airport. Jamal is a very good travel companion, really skilled ranger, driver and with a good sense of humor. Love this guy and he was my 'little' brother for 8 days. After landing we had an hour drive to the hotel. The next day we were in the car for 9 hours, travelling and visiting lake Manyara. The 3rd day we had to travel again 9 hours, allthough the information from Makasa mentioned 4-5 hours, to Kimbilio tented camp. The length of this drive was disappointing and to exhausting! Jamal did his best and drove like Max Verstappen (very safe!) but still .... the 4 days at Kimbilio was an excellent experience! See my review. We left Serengeti to drive to the next stay at Ngorongoro Crater. Beautiful wildlife and Park for 1 day. Good planning. The Melia lodge is not so good, but we asked ourselves to book this, so not Makasa to blame. See my other review of the lodge. After 2 nights Jamal drove us to the airport Arusha for our flight to Zanzibar. He helped us with everything, check in et cetera and we said goodbyes and we really miss Jamal! My parents went with Jamal to a Masai camp. In Zanzibar our transfer waited for us and the Next Paradise resort (thank you Selma, Makasa for the tip!) is stunning! See my review. 5 days beach was relaxing and lovely. So in the end. Makasa did overall a great job! Good information before the trip, Jamal perfect match for us, transfers, lodges and hotels all booked, no hustle. And what I appreciated, easy to reach by email and phone. We can recommend Makasa !Written October 15, 2023
- arlines20230 contributionsTanzania - Zanzibar with MakasaWe just came home from a great trip to Tanzania and Zanzibar. Of course we had high expectations of this dream trip, but it was far beyond that. Incredible to really see wild life in their natural environment in some many numbers!. After a enthusiastic Facebook-live presentation of Selma Kamm from Makasa we were convinced that Makasa fitted best with our wishes. And that worked out very well. From the moment we arrived at Kilimanjaro Airport until we left from Zanzibar Airport everything was very well taken care off. For eight days we were guided and driven by the excellent Francis, a guide who knew every road in the parks we visited, without ever consulting a map or TomTom. With enormous knowledge of the animals and nature he drove us around and showed us more than 40 different species. Always kind, helpful in looking for the right angle for taking pictures and asking if we were okay with the program. And yes we were very content, in eight days we visited Park Tarangire, Park Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro and of course the Serengeti. This sequence was very well chosen. Great to safe the best for last: the immense expanse of Serengeti was very impressive combined with staying in the new Kimbilio Camp in Northern Serengeti. We stayed their for three nights in the very well equiped camp. Francis was very right constantly saying 'Serengeti will never die'. Among many others he managed to show us the wildebeest crossing the river and even on the last morning driving to the airstrip we got our 'cherry on the cake': a cheetah family, mom, dad and three cubs. So yes, Makasa made a great programma, Francis made it all happen! He stole our heart and we will always remember him as the one who showed us all the beautiful creatures of God's hand. Next to nature we're also very interested in history. On the way to Serengeti we made a very interesting stop in Olduvai, the archeological site where mankind started million years ago. More history we consumed in Stone Town, Zanzibar, where we made a guided walking tour through old town, learning more about the history of this town and the role slavetrade played here. And then there was time to rest. In the lovely hotel Mahali right at the beach of Pajé, Zanzibar, we had a great time at the beach to process all we had seen in the week before. Swimming and snorkeling in the Indian Ocean, watching kiters on the waves, biking the beach, eating great fishplates at night, enjoying the care of the great staff of Mahali. So if you ever have a chance of making a trip like this, don't hesitate, Go for Tanzania and Zanzibar, book your trip at Makasa and ask for Francis as your guide! - Buck780 contributionsWonderful experience! We went on a 2 weeks safari to Tanzania combined with 1 week of relaxing beach holiday in Tanzania. From the first reply I got from Selma I knew that Makasa would be my partner of choice to organize this trip. And it was beyond expectations! Everything was organized so great, all lodges, camps, pickups,... everything was perfect. We had the best safari guide we could imagine, thanks again Jamal you are the best! I would recommend Makasa to anyone without a doubt!Written September 11, 2023
- jaapv7770 contributionsGreat stay with Makasa. The trip was well organized, we stayed in very nice places and had a safe and knowledgable driver. Highlight was our stay at the Makasa tented camp in Serengeti. Nice people, great place to stay with the zebra's, lions en hyena's at your doorstep, but still feeling safe. Would definitely recommend this to family and friends, great value for money.Written September 4, 2023
- MariseB_130 contributionsA wonderful vacation! We had a great holiday with a very nice guide. Everything was perfectly arranged with beautiful accommodations and realistic expectations about travel times etc. The contact with Makasa went smoothly. - CiliaV30 contributionsMust do!We've had an awesome trip. Makasa listened carefully to our wishes and put together a wonderful program for us. Everything was well organized down to the last detail. I definitely recommend booking a trip through Makasa. We have visited the Maasai, done safaris and sun worshiped on Zanzibar. Been on the road for a total of 20 days with our 12 year old son. It was lots of fun for him.Written August 25, 2023
- bbbvoyages0 contributionsUnforgettable experienceMakasa created a personolized 14-day trip for us as our daughter's graduation gift: half safari, half beach time in Zanzibar with a stopover in Stonetown with a private guide and visit to a spice farm. I cannot recommend the Makasa team (especially Selma) enough! They were extremely responsive and really listened to the types of places we wanted to stay, things we wanted to do, made specific changes and suggestions for us. Every single place we stayed from a Masai safari lodge to tented camps to the resort on Zanzibar was perfect, the food was excellent, and we loved our private safari guide Temba. One of the things we especially appreciated was that on the safari we spent the days moving gradually north from Arusha, but at the end instead of having to drive back for 12+ hours, Makasa booked us on a flight back - no other tour companies proposed that to us. I truly cannot recommend Makasa enough - you will not be sorry if you book with them!Written August 2, 2023
- erikvB1416XS0 contributionsTanzania for a wonderful experienceI went together with my daughter on a 12 day safari and 5 days Zanzibar. We started in the Africa Amini Life Original Maasai Lodge for 2 days where we taste a little bit of the Maasai life. Also we made a bush walk and a bush breakfast where we had our first encounters with the wild life. Only standing a few meters from some zebra’s and giraf’s. After those two days we where picked up by our guide Agustino who showed us three national parks in about 9 days. First we went to lake manyara national park which was introduces as the trailer for the Serengeti national park. We can honestly say that it was a great trailer to sell the movie. After that we went for 6 days to the Serengeti national park where we found so many animals, including the great migration, 4 of the big five and a wonderful stay at the Kimbilio Serengeti Camp. Last but not least we went to Ngorongoro crater where we spotted the last of the big five. With special thanks to Agustino. His sharp eyes made it possible to spot them all, and the knowledge over the wild life and parks learned us so much that we would highly recommend him. After the safari's we had a restful stay in zanzibar and again the hotel where we stayed was perfect. All in all it was unforgetable, with perfect arangements and everything was perfect arranged. I would highly recommand Makasa Tanzania Safaris, they realy take good care of you. Also a good recommandation is to take a balloon trip over the Serengeti, you won’t be disappointedWritten July 27, 2023
- WyattFam10 contributionsIncredible 18 day trip to Zanzibar and Northern Tanzania! From start to finish Selma has been great. This was our 3rd safari and we can honestly say it was our best. From the planning stages to the trip itself eveything went smoothly. We spent 4 nights in Zanzibar and 14 nights in northern Tanzania. We specially asked Selma for an " off the beaten track safari" and we got just that. Every lodge/ camp was incredible from the Masai to the sounds of zebra chewing by your tent at Kimbilio tented camp- each place we stayed offered something different and unique. Selma was happy to switch our itinerary round to suit our needs and makes great recommendations. Selma always answered our questions promptly, checked in with us regulalry during our trip and constructed the perfect private safari for us. We can highly recommed King our guide who was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly joining in with our family's sense of humour. If your looking to book a safari to Tanzania book with Makasa as you will not be disappointed.Written July 23, 2023
- Wander198648854090 contributions10/10 would recommend! We recently had an unforgettable 7-night private safari in Tanzania with Makasa. Here's why: Selma, the owner, provided excellent service and made great suggestions that we just slightly adjusted to meet our needs. If she recommends to stay at Kimbilio Tented Camp in the Serengeti, book it without hesitation! Our respectful and knowledgeable driver, like a living safari-Wikipedia, made each game drive extraordinary. The price value fit compared to other providers was excellent. We booked based on friend's recommendation and highly recommend Makasa, too.Written June 14, 2023

We had a fantastic safari with Makasa over 5 days & have recommended them to our friends. Our guide & driver Jamal was great, not only at spotting animals, but also, responsible, good company & also a great photographer - thanks to him we have some lovely photos of us with animals. Highlight was seeing a pride of lions with cubs devouring 2 wildebeest.
Was also great to meet Makasa owners Selma & Gomi at their new Serengeti camp & also go on a safari to a part of the reserve where there were no other tourists.
We chose to book direct with Makasa as they are local safari experts based in Tanzania & were much more flexible in accommodating our needs than larger travel agencies we contacted based in Europe.

Makasa helped us organise our safari in Tanzania and it was all smooth from the minute we arrived.
The lodges and tents were very nice and comfortable, we were quite impressed by the high standards and warm welcome of each accommodation (special mention for Sound of Silence in Serengeti and Maasai Lodge which were an amazing experience)
Our guide Humphrey was very friendly and made the whole safari journey very pleasant. He could spot animals miles away and thanks to him we spotted even the rarest animals, sometimes with no one around. He was also very joyful and was always happy to share his wide knowledge about the wildlife in Tanzania.
Going on a safari can be stressful to organise and we can’t recommend Makasa enough, the whole team is reliable and professional.

Having dreamt of going on a safari for years this lived up to all of my expectations. We had the most amazing guide, God Love, who always seemed to know where the animals would be and he had high levels of patience (with our questions and waiting for the animals!). We were so lucky and saw so many animals, just brilliant. We stayed in two tented lodges - Simba (OK ish) and Rhotia (excellent). Would highly recommend Makasa, thank you.

Trip with Makasa in August/September 2021 has been a wonderful experience. The initial contact with Selma was smooth and together we created a program for a trip that we were really looking forward to! Straight upon arrival in Tanzania we experienced the service that Makasa offers! Our driver (Humphrey, a real legend!) picked us up and next morning we were personally welcomed by Selma and her husband. The next 18 days have been amazing, the car, the lodges, the hotels everything was taken care of! Trip has been one we'll never forget!

Nov 2021
We reached out to Makasa in early (pre-COVID) 2020 to book our honeymoon (originally planned for November 2020). They were welcoming and so friendly - it was like planning a holiday with an old friend! No question or request was unanswered. Selma and her team planned the honeymoon of our dreams! While we were unable to travel at that time, Selma continued to be communicative and collaborative so we postponed our trip for one year. All around us we had friends and family with trips that were falling through but we felt comfortable and confident everything would work out mainly because of our regular check ins and updates with Makasa.
Everything did work out and in Nov 2021 we traveled to Tanzania \ Zanzibar. Everything was SO smooth- we truely did not have to worry about a thing as the Makasa team had organized everything. Even when we had to switch lodges last minute due to construction- we never felt an ounce of stress. We also experienced thoughtful surprises like personalized notes or bottles of champagne at some of the lodges to celebrate our honeymoon (as Selma had mentioned this to them). We felt like VIP.
We also were lucky to have two guides (one very experienced 10+ years and one in training). They were an AMAZING duo. From the moment they picked us up at the airport, they were welcoming and friendly. We became like family as we traveled around - laughing, joking, sharing stories, and most of all seeing the most incredible animals! Every day we saw something unexpected and learned something new. They were passionate about the land and animals and easily shared that with us. We patiently waited and watched as animals roamed and lived around us in our comfy land cruiser. We saw the big five, the little five, the ugly five and so much more. It’s impossible to summarize here all that we experienced and learned but we will say - Double the Humphreys, Double the fun!
We absolutely cannot wait to return again and HIGHLY recommend anyone going on a safari to book with Makasa.

My husband and I went on a 4 day Safari with Makasa and had a fantastic experience. We were 24 hours late for the tour due to bad roads trying to get to Moshi and Makasa moved our itinerary a day ahead so we didn't miss anything. Our guide, Kalebi, picked us up from Moshi as soon as we arrived.
Kalebi was a really great guide and so knowledgeable about all the animals, ecosystems, geology and environment. We were so impressed by his ability to spot and identify animals and teach us about them. We learned so much!
The accommodation for the 3 nights was fabulous. We stayed one night next to Tarangire and the other 2 nights near Lake Manyara and Ngorogoro. Each had a pool, delicious food and spectacular lodgings with great views.
We definitely recommend safari with Makasa for a once in a lifetime experience.

What a unique experience to be able to observe wildlife so closely from so close. We saw everything there was to see in those 3 days, but our highlight was the moment with the 3 lions, the lioness, the two cubs and their prey.
Furthermore, the Ngorongoro Crater is truly a world of its own. a must see for everyone. We will definitely go back to see the north again.
