Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- ticavalenzuela0 contributionsThe most great experience in Tanzania !!It is an amazing tour! No words about the safari we did. Startling from Samwel attention was wonderful before our trip. Chambuso pick up us at the airport and from that was amazing, he was a excelent driver , very nice and responsable person ! Always thinking about us and our needs. The animals we saw was incredible !! We watch all kind of animals , I would say millions of animals .. I don’t have words to describe it . Savana explorer the best !!Written December 4, 2024
- camilosX2439WT0 contributionsAmazing experience with lovely peopleThe experience with Savannah explorer was absolutely amazing. In first place, the national parks were astonishing, a lot of animals and experience from all the staff involved. The logistic and the lodges in which we stayed were excellent, and the service from everyone was outstanding. Our guide (Chambuso) was amazing throughout all the journey. His experience, great attitude and service made this trip unforgettable. I encourage everyone to travel with Savannah and make this trip with chambuso throughout the beautiful country of Tanzania.Written December 4, 2024
- Kellie R0 contributionsBest safari! Great with kids!We had an absolute dream vacation on our African safari. We highly recommend Savannah explorers. We took our four young boys and had the most incredible time. Our guide, Gerry, was very professional and fun to be with. He made sure our boys saw every animal on their list. He was very knowledgeable and familiar with all the parks we went to. He made us feel safe and we had the best time!Written December 3, 2024

- Andrew S0 contributionsAmazing from start to finishSavannah Explorers delivered an absolutely unforgettable safari experience from start to finish. The itinerary was perfectly planned, with seamless communication, excellent accommodations, and a well-paced agenda that made the most of our time in Tanzania. Every detail was handled flawlessly, but what really set the trip apart was having Thomas as our guide. Hilarious, personable, and incredibly knowledgeable, he worked tirelessly to ensure we saw every possible animal and shared fascinating insights about Tanzania’s culture and history. By the end, it felt like we’d gained a new friend. If you’re considering a safari, Savannah Explorers is the way to go—they get everything right, from the big picture to the smallest details.Written December 2, 2024
- NickR34340 contributionsAmazing Safari and Tanzanian Cultural ExperienceWe had a fabulous safari experience. From the moment Gerry picked us up at the airport we felt welcomed and comfortable in Tanzania. Gerry has incredible experience, knowledge and expertise of all things Tanzania, the animals in the four parks we visited and of local customs. We saw every animal we had hoped for (knowing it was not guaranteed) in Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Serengeti, and the crater. We also had a great cultural experience in Mto Wa Mbu and got to hike about 10 miles of Kilimanjaro. We had four kids with us and Gerry made them feel very welcome and comfortable. The trip was absolutely a success!Written November 30, 2024
- Masciuniria0 contributionsTop quality local guide and unforgettable experienceThe whole organization phase was very simple. We had the opportunity to customize the tour and our contact person was always ready to respond promptly to any question of any kind. The cars are spacious and very comfortable. They are equipped with wifi and electrical sockets, they allow you to cross fords of 60-70cm. Furthermore, every morning the car was very clean, both inside and out, even after muddy and dusty journeys. The hotels and structures where we slept all offered good quality services and the food was always excellent. all the staff were very kind, welcoming and attentive to our needs. Finally, the most important part, Jackson, our local guide who accompanied us for 8 days on our entire trip. Jackson is the best guide you can have. He is a very expert guide who knows Tanzania like the back of his hand. Thanks to his global knowledge of both the local culture and the naturalistic part, the trip becomes a real documentary. We managed to see all the most beautiful animals on the planet, discovering all their secrets. We learned so much about every living being in Tanzania and the Masai culture. We also managed to see many rhinos, cheetahs and leopards! In addition, Jackson is a kind, empathetic and funny person, with whom you can joke and spend the many hours of driving in serenity and joy. In short, a person you can trust blindly in every aspect. We can't wait to come back again!Written November 29, 2024
- Francesca72Diego710 contributionsUn Safari che consigliamo a tutti!!!!A beautiful safari that we recommend to everyone!!! Let's start with the organization: Daniela assisted us with great professionalism and kindness. The lodges we stayed in were all very nice and the staff extremely friendly and caring. Our guide John was FANTASTIC! With his keen eyesight and decades of experience he accompanied us throughout this vacation and thanks to him we saw every animal possible, 🦒🐃🦓🦛🐆🦅🦉🐊🐗🐒really every one! Including 4 leopards and 35 lions!!!! Thank you to Savannah Explorers for this unforgettable trip!!!! 😍Written November 5, 2024
- janeevans240 contributionsOnce in a lifetime experienceExcellent experience on this once in a life-time tailor-made safari trip to the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tanagire, and Manyara national parks / conservation areas. We saw so many more animals than we could have imagined possible - all at close quarters - and all with the help of Paul, our experienced and attentive driver / guide.Written October 31, 2024
- BlakeJonesDC0 contributionsExcellent experience and amazing serviceSavannah Explorers made this bucket list trip an unforgettable experience. From the initial outreach and planning, Agustin made everything so easy and was incredibly responsive to our requests and revisions. During the safari, Jackson was an amazing guide. He’s friendly, attentive, and deeply knowledgeable about the flora, fauna, and history. Owing to his great skills spotting and pointing out animals, we managed to see 52 different animals, including all of the big five, in five days. We couldn’t be more thrilled.Written October 23, 2024
- U4083OHbrandonb0 contributionsAmazing 5-day Tanzanian Safari! What an amazing 5-day safari for our honeymoon! We saw all the highlights – the Big 5, the Great Migration river crossing, all the big cats, and even witnessed lions hunting multiple times – all thanks to our incredible safari guide, Gerry. Gerry is by far the best guide we’ve ever had on a trip and we’re so glad he was there to show us around Tarangire, Ngorongoro, and the Serengeti. He not only knows all the hidden spots within each park but he’s also built a network of relationships with other safari guides. This means he always knows where the action is each day and which areas to visit if you’re looking for specific animals. He was also a lot of fun to be around and extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife, the parks, and Tanzanian culture. We also loved the vehicle from Savannah Explorers – it was one of the best maintained and equipped vehicles we saw in the parks. Since you spend all day out there on safari, it’s ideal to have a comfortable and reliable safari vehicle. We also appreciated Gerry’s excellent driving which made us feel safe the entire trip. Gerry and Savannah Explorers made our safari unforgettable and we highly recommend them to anyone planning a Tanzanian adventure. We can’t wait to visit again!Written October 20, 2024
- Tourist565870668330 contributionsAn absolute must!!!This was hands down one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had. Our safari driver, Emmanuel was absolutely amazing. For three days, he made sure we witnessed the most incredible animal experiences. We were front row for the great migration of wildebeests (only happens couple times a year), saw family of lions (multiple times), a pregnant cheetah, a cheetah eating his kill, got super close to elephants, and we saw a bunch of other amazing things. I can’t recommend this tour and driving with Emmanuel enough!Written October 17, 2024
- Tina L0 contributionsAmazing trip; great companyWent on a 3 night safari to Serengeti, Ngorongoro crater and lake Manyara. The whole trip was amazing. The company were communicative and informative from the first pre-trip inquiry. Micky was very responsive throughout - thanks! Our safari guide, Samuel, was exceptional. He ensured we saw the big 5 and was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, professional and flexible. Having been on many Safari’s, this guide was the best I have ever had. I would highly recommend this company if you want a trip of a lifetime.Written October 16, 2024
- V1535CJmichellem0 contributionsFantastic experience in Serengeti and NgorongoroMy friends and I had a wonderful time on this trip! We were very lucky to see the tail end of the wildebeest migration, as well as so many other animals including families of lions, elephants, and even a rhino to round out the big 5. Emanuel was an excellent driver, very knowledgeable and professional guide, and took great care of us throughout the four day tour! Not only did he put us front and center to see so many animals, he shared information about the different species of flora and fauna and the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. Booking details were handled seamlessly. I highly recommend Savannah Explorers.Written October 11, 2024

We are a family of 5 (kids 14, 12 and 9) who took our trip over the christmas and new years holiday. It was amazing! I can't say enough good things about Savannah and our guide Osman. Savannah (Albert) were prompt, responsive, accommodating and helpful. We went from Kilimanjaro to Arusha to Tarangire to Manyara to Serengeti, Ngororo and then to Zanzibar. Along the way we got to visit Maasai and Iraqw tribes and stop for other things as needed. All of our connections were planned with proper guidance and timing - any hiccups were quickly and flawlessly resolved by Albert. The accommodations were what we had discussed in our program and the experience overall was incredible. I really appreciate all that Osman and Albert did for us - they made it a truly memorable, once in a lifetime experience. the kids had a great time too - the vehicle was better than expected and we had so much fun together! I will definitely recommend them to other people. Thank you Savannah

Guide and places visited - Thomas AKA Uncle Thomas was excellent. He helped us see the big 5 and a lot more. He was very friendly and helpful. Thomas took the time to explain the history and the background of each place. He also answered all our questions patiently.
One of our kids has mobility issues and so uses the wheelchair. Thomas made sure that our child was as comfortable as possible and even helped with the wheelchair all the time.
He also made sure all of us got enough time to take our pictures and videos during the game drives.
We visited Mount Kilimanjaro, Tarangire, a Masai village, Southern Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Lake Manyara. Each of these places had something new to offer us.
Operations-
Right from the start of the planning, Savannah Explorers had detailed discussions with us to plan our itinerary. All our needs were discussed in detail. After the original planner quit Savannah Explorers, Soraiya took over the planning. She was very meticulous in checking our itinerary and found out a couple of issues and sorted them out by working with us. We are very thankful to Soraiya as well.
Everything was well-arranged. The hotels booked were pretty good. All the staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. The rooms were all well maintained, except for minor issues with the bathroom, phone or a/c.
However, we had two hiccups which made us lose a few hours on two days (one, at the NCA gate where our permits had not been paid for and two, with the hot air balloon organization whose guys came almost 2 hours late and so we had to miss it the first day and fly the second day which reduced our Ngorongoro game drive time). We understand they were partner organizations that had the issue. Savannah Explorers did their best to resolve it in time. But we still lost precious hours.
All said, this was a fantastic trip and something all of us will cherish the rest of our lives. We highly recommend this trip (keep in mind it is a very expensive trip and it may be cheaper to go at other times of the year. We did this trip during the last week of December and the first week of January).

Mickey, arranged our safari for our family of 16. This included 8 children ages 9 to 15. It was a fabulous experience. The trip included the Ngorongoro crater, which truly is the garden of Eden, and then the Serengeti. We saw a lion hunt, many different animal species, including a black rhino. A visit to a Masai Village where all of our grandchildren all did the jump jump dance with the villagers. We also encountered the migration of the wildebeest. It was amazing to see literally thousands and thousands of animals marching in a row surrounded by zebras. Heading to and waiting for them were the lions and the crocodiles. we stayed in tent hotels on the Serengeti and enjoyed the sounds of the African night. Finally four days at a resort on Zanzibar, where we could recover from this journey swimming in the Indian ocean. one activity we did here which was a lot of fun was going to a spice farm where we sampled all the different spices directly off the trees, and learned about their culinary and medicinal uses. this was a wonderful experience for everyone, children, adolescents, parents, and grandparents. to do this trip correctly, you need to time it with the migrations and the rainy season to get the best weather and of course to see everything.

Aug 2023 • Friends
We must necessarily make a distinction.
Very high opinion of local guides during safaris. Jackson and Suma were very good, they showed us animals in unique conditions and were always available. Magnificent places and good-high level facilities.
Opinion on Savannah's organization and support: decidedly more disappointing: we booked in January well in advance, communicating specific needs relating to accommodation in the rooms and some health problems. Alessia, our Savannah representative, was extremely helpful and prompt until the deposit was paid, then when the first problems appeared she was decidedly less so. The structure in Zanzibar was changed without us being informed (we noticed it on the website of our trip by chance), just as with less than 24 hours notice the tented camp in the Serengeti was changed, with a change from a structure " luxury" to a "mid-range" (from the park's official website). Upon arrival at each facility, the accommodation in the rooms practically never corresponded to that requested and agreed upon and none of these had been informed of the dietary-health problems communicated at the time of booking. At the Zanzibar airport the local guide did not have flight tickets to Arusha and they had not been sent to us (the tickets were necessary to access the airport).
Finally, when defining the itinerary we specifically asked Alessia if it was worth replacing the day at Lake Manyara with another destination, having heard from several people that the animals in that park are no longer in fact there. We were told that this was not true and we trusted it, with the result that we ended up wasting one of the 5 days of safari by dedicating only half a day to NgoroNgoro instead.
The overall rating (3 out of 5) seems to us to honestly represent the average of these considerations

Thank you Savannah Explorers for an unforgettable trip to Tanzania and Zanzibar. The six days of safari were incredible thanks to our guide Maulid, who showed us the most amazing sights and shared his considerable knowledge with us. We felt completely safe in his hands and he took care of everything.
All the accommodation was of a really high standard.
And lastly, thank you to Soraiya at head office for her outstanding work. We booked our holiday almost three years ago but due to Covid it was cancelled twice. Each time all communication was excellent and rearrangements were all handled with great care and expertise.

Savannah Explorer lived up to our expectations, Sultan, the person who waited for us by English-speaking email, was from the first moment very helpful and attentive, organized for us a perfect holiday in Tanzania and Zanzibar.
They propose a visit to the Maasai village worth 100 €, we did it but it seemed a very touristy thing, I would not do it again. Once the visit to the village is made, the Maasai themselves put a little pressure to buy their bracelets, in their culture they are used to shoot exorbitant amounts and then negotiate.
Thomas, our English-speaking guide in the parks, thanks to his 15 years of experience, allowed us not only to see the big 5 on more than one occasion, but also shared with us his knowledge about the flora and fauna present. We learned a lot about the behavior of animals in nature and how each animal and plant provides balance in parks. It was an experience full of emotions and learning.
ASANTE SANA!

Savannah Explorer was a fabulous tour operator. Perfect organization from the quote to the end of our trip. We had the pleasure of having Jackson as a guide who guided us and took us to explore the most beautiful parks in Tanzania: Tarangire Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro. Furthermore, after the parks he was very helpful in adding extra visits to the safari which I highly recommend: the Iraqi tribe who grows coffee and explains how they live and their culture and the visit to the Maasai village.
An unforgettable experience for me, my husband and our two friends.
Thanks again Savannah Explorers and thanks Jackson.

I like to travel internationally and I am always looking for something new and exciting. About 2 years ago I decided to go on Safari so started planning. I researched companies in Tanzania and found Savannah Explorers. From the beginning the whole experience was top notch. This was complicated trip as I was leading a group of 28 people. Savannah Explorers executed the trip flawlessly. The entire experience from the day they picked us up to the day they dropped us at the airport was excellent. As one can imagine, running a trip with 28 people presents its own set of issues. In two years I sent and received over 500 emails working on this trip. The folks at Savannah met the challenge and never made it seem like I was being a bother. The choice of lodges and camps were perfect for our group. That being said, the actually safari was astounding. We say all of the big 5 including a fairly close encounter with a Rhino. Our group had 4 guide/drivers and although my experience was with Abyia, who was excellent, all of the other vehicles had equally glowing reviews of their guides/drivers. I rarely write reviews on trips. I think that people tend to write about the things they do not like but I have zero negative comments about this operation

When deciding which tour operator to use, I had narrowed down my choice to about six different tour operators - all of which were based in Tanzania. I chose to go with Savannah Explorers based upon the numerous five star reviews as well as the value that I felt I was getting for my money. Let me just say that I was not disappointed with my decision. I booked about a year in advance through Agustin who customized a 12-day safari/Zanzibar trip for me. He was always available to answer every question, provide great advice, and to put every concern to rest. Always responded to me within 24 hours.
When we landed in Kilimanjaro, our guide for the next 8 days, Juma, was there to greet us. Juma treated us like we were family. Such a great guide! Very knowledgeable about the behaviors of the animals and birds, and has a relentless spirit about him when it comes to finding the animals. He would talk with the other guides along the roads and listen to the radio chatter to hear which animals were being spotted and where, and then get us over there promptly so we could see. We drove over countless dirt roads in what seemed to be the middle of nowhere, but Juma knew his way around and always seems to know where to find the animals. I saw more animals than I had even hoped for. Many big cats, lions, leopard, cheetah, elephant, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest migrating across the Mara River, hippos, gazelle, monkeys, baboons, and so many more. Also, the hot air balloon was a great decision to add into our trip. Seeing the Serengeti from the air was such an experience.
I highly recommend Savannah Explorers. They are a first class tour operator. Ask for Juma! He will take excellent care of you.
