About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- avyaanc0 contributionsThey disappointed me a lot.I went on a 15 day tour with Africa joy tours. They disappointed me a lot. They misbehaved me they made me travel to only three places in 15 days and charged me a lot of money. I paid them $4000 first. Later they took another 3000$ from me. They charged me a total of $7000, but our deal was $4000. They are really an scam company.Written November 17, 2024
- Explorer341135847930 contributionsFantastic tourYour chances of reaching the summit are greatly reduced if you don't have the correct guides who can sense how you're feeling and change the pace accordingly. Kilimanjaro takes a lot of energy. This is when Africa Joy Tours' guides really come into their own. Overly ambitious males, we were a group of twenty plus. Seeing that, our guides Emanuel, Bryson, and Augustine made sure to move us forward at a speed that was comfortable for everyone. Although the summit night is long and dangerous, they were really understanding with us, and the ginger tea was served just when we needed it to boost our energy for the last push. We advise using them. fantastic!Written November 8, 2024
- Meander551202837790 contributionsHighly recommend. We were lucky enough to have a very enjoyable time on the Africa Joy Tour. And the two best guides there are Rama and Imanwell. Created a very inspiring and very safe environment. And the places there were very interesting for me to visit, so thanks to the team we brought to the top. And the entire hike was very safe and comfortable. The entire trip was organized smoothly. I highly recommend going together.Written October 27, 2024
- 975pandaz0 contributionsI was really impressedI was really impressed with their business. Very prompt and well-organised. The lodging was excellent, particularly since we chose the less expensive option. Even local community development initiatives are supported by the one hotel. Above all, Jacob was a fantastic guide. He made sure we had a fantastic and safe trip and was very patient and informed. Without a doubt, I would take another trip with this group!Written October 23, 2024
- Pioneer007306305160 contributionsThe guides were excellent and knowledgeableThe guides were excellent and knowledgeable - with their help, we tallied 79 different species of animals and birds, including all of the big five at close range (OK, the one rhino was a bit far away) except leopards. Lots of hippos wallowing, giraffes grazing. In the Maasai Mara, we dramatically saw a hyena single-handedly catch a topi (an antelope three times its size), bring it down, and share it with its colleagues - not pleasant, but compulsive viewing - after 15mins, it was left to the vultures.Written October 21, 2024
- Safari149676416790 contributionsI would recommend everyoneMy friends and I went on a four-day safari tour with them. Their drivers were very efficient in taking us to the sightseeing spots. They were kind and very efficient. I would recommend everyone to go on safari with themWritten October 19, 2024
- chaudir10 contributionsMachame - Thank you Africa Joy ToursKilimanjaro extracts a lot out of you and if you don’t have the right guides who can sense how you are feeling and adjust the pace accordingly, your chances of making the summit decrease significantly. That’s where guides from Africa Joy Tours shine through. We were a group over 50, overly ambitious men. Our guides Emanuel, Bryson and Augustine sensed that :) and ensured they move us through at a pace that was comfortable for all of us. The summit night is long and treacherous but they were very patient with us and the ginger tea was served at the right time to give us the energy needed to make the final push. They came highly recommended to us from friends and we highly recommend them to others. Experience was grew and we made a lifetime of memories. Thank you to all the porters and guides. You all were awesome!Written October 13, 2024
- JuanC57970 contributionsthe best experience. We saw the big 5I went to a luxury safari with my wife and my mother. Everything was perfect. Better of what we spected. Ndaji was a great guide. - 174ahsana0 contributionsKilimanjaro 7-day hikeWe took a 7 day hike of Mount Kilimanjaro from Machama with Bryson, Emmanuel and Augustine, our guides for the trip. Can’t say enough good things about the team. They had a great attitude and are very knowledgeable about the route. They made sure that we were safe, and able to successfully do the climb. Gave us sound advice and helped us get through tough terrain. The porters are amazing. They carried our supplies and had our tents ready before we arrived. I would give African Joy tours my highest recommendations!Written October 8, 2024
- Melissalovestoeat0 contributionsUnforgettable experience climbing the world’s tallest free standing mountain! My partner and I did the Mt Kilimanjaro 7-day Lemosho route with our 2 guides - Emmanuel and Frankie - we couldn't have asked for better guides! From start to finish, their professionalism, knowledge, and passion for the mountain were evident. They made sure we were well-prepared at the start of each day, ensuring safety and comfort at every step. Their expertise in handling altitude challenges, weather conditions, and pacing was impressive. They were also incredibly warm and friendly, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and motivation. Each day, they shared fascinating insights about the mountain's history, wildlife, and ecosystems, enriching our experience even more. Thanks to their guidance, we felt confident and inspired as we reached the summit. Huge shoutout to the crew of porters and chef as well - they are the heroes who make the summit possible for us. Nothing but respect and admiration for them. It was truly an unforgettable adventure, and I highly recommend them to anyone looking to conquer Mt Kilimanjaro!Written September 29, 2024

- veralB9154QT0 contributionsThe most fun trip of my lifeThis was the best trip of my life. We had an 8-day tour in Kenya. I had tears in my eyes when leaving because it was so much fun. Thompson arranged an awesome trip for us and he was really helpful and communicative. We loved our entire journey. Our driver John was the best, he took great care of us and was super experienced and he really worked hard to get us see all the animals and cross every single one on our wishlist. We saw everything we wanted to see and so much more that we didn’t expect. Words can’t describe how much fun we had and we cannot wait to come back for another trip.Written September 11, 2023

My girlfriend and I completed a 6 day hike on Mount Kilimanjaro going up on Marangu route.
Each of the trekking day was different and had varied memories. Mount Kilimanjaro itself is grandeur and Marangu route is definitely very scenic, more than we had anticipated.
The key to a successful ascent of Mt Kilimanjaro is to take it laid-back during the first days and ensuring that you acclimatise to the altitude before attempting the final hike to the summit. Upon hitting Uhuru Peak, it is quite a sense of great achievement standing on top the mountain. It is for sure a an amazing experience watching the sun rise over the African skies and with amazing views.
We used the service of Africa Joy tours directly and Clinton made all the arrangements for us. Everything was delivered as planned and at reasonable cost. Robin, the Kilimanjaro guide was an excellent choice and an expert in helping out alongside the a team of porters and cook.
The
cook and porters were all very good and well organised, the food was good, warm and plentiful with fresh fruits. Everything was on time and the guide adjusted hiking tempo to our abilities and frequent photo stops. He knew well what he was doing. The hike itself, landscape and nature, is of course exceptional.
Without the help of Robin, we wouldn’t have succeeded in reaching the summit. Clinton was an excellent planner and made all efforts in providing all the information we needed beforehand. Everything was as per the details provided and trust me that they know the mountain very well, providing you with the right info and the potential problems and solutions.

Zawadi and his wonderful team helped us reach the summit of Kilimanjaro on a 6-day climb back in September 2020. His team went above and beyond - the food was surprisingly good, they were friendly and when medical attention was required for someone with a stomach virus, they were brilliant in looking after our friend and seeking medical advice and drugs for treatment. All 20 climbers, reached the summit which is an incredible achievement and would certainly not have possible without the amazing Africa Joy Tours team around us. I would strongly recommend Africa Joy Tours to anyone and I would do it with them again if I managed to convince any of my family members to go!

My husband and I used Africa joy tours for a 6-day Mt kilimanjaro marangu route hike and a 6 days marangu and 3 days safari. We were very impressed with everything right from our first contact with them by email up to our whole trip. They worked with us prior to booking to customize the trip we wanted.
Our mountain guide and porters were amazing and went above and beyond what we would reasonably expect. There is no way we would have made it up the mountain without them.
Our safari guide was amazing as well and his passion for his job was obvious. He would guide us for 8 hour game drives and show us everything we wanted to see, answer all our questions, and teach us a ton about all the animals. His ability to spot them and knowledge was unbelievable. It is obvious that Lion King instills customer service as their number 1 priority with all their guides, as he wouldn't let us lift a finger while on our safari.
Overall, we couldn't have been more impressed with the quality of service we received and would definitely recommend Africa joy tours to anyone looking for a safari, Mt Meru, or Mt Kilimanjaro hike tour.

Until the last day, this was a well-run hike. But then the last day descended into chaos. There were no scheduled breaks, we had to argue with the staff every time we wanted to stop and rest, and the the staff stood around mKing us feel uncomfortable. When we reached Gilman’s Point, exhausted after 6 1/2 hours, Clinton would not let me take a 5 minute break until I argued with him. It was very frustrating, and the need to argue added to the exhaustion. They split the party in two which meant I was alone with the guide - I also thought this was wrong. It took the enjoyment away from what should have been a mind blowing experience. I wouldn’t recommend this company at all. Later, I had to be taken down in an “emergency” van which was packed full of workers - not sick people.

Hi James,
Thank you very much for your recommendation and we are really sorry about the last day which ends up into chaos.
James you have to know that during the hiking of Mt Kilimanjaro the clients have to listen to the Guides especially on the summit day as the guides have the knowledge and experience of the mountain more than the tourist, in this reference for the successfully reaching to the top you have to be calm and listen to what the guides are saying.
Also about the brakes for resting there are some special points where the tourist have to rest otherwise too much resting could always bring unsuccessfully to reach the summit of the mount Kilimanjaro and that is why the slogan POLEPOLE was designed.
If you walk fast normally you will need brakes every few moments as you will lose a lot of energy going fast on the steep slopes and that is what you were doing, the guide told you many times you are supposed to walk slowly but you did not agree and that what makes you needs brakes every time.
We split is always necessary as tourist do not resembles when it comes to the healthy situation. Your fellow Ojas was always walking slowly and that is why he did not fell exhausted all the time and he successfully reach the summit.
About the rescue, you have to remember that we arrived at Horombo Huts in the night and you insisted that you want to go down that night we asked the rescue car to come and it would have taken up to 4 hours to reach the huts but you insisted that is why we look for the availability of the car around Horombo which have stuffs and takes you down.
All the challenges of the Mountain, we are happy that you fulfilled your dream of reaching the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro safely and we are sorry for the Inconvenience that happened
Regards
Emmanuel

I planned the Kilimanjaro trek so that I could be at Uhuru peak for New year 2021 and it was dream come true!
Mine was a solo trek with my guide Happyson, 2 porters and a chef. I can say confidently that without Happyson, I would definitely not have made it to the peak, a great feat for someone who hadn't really exercised for the past 3 months. He encouraged me constantly, sang for me, carried everything making it easier for me, slowed down the pace and took care of me like a member of his family.
The trek in itself is an amazing experience. The landscape changes from rainforests to meadows to alpine desert to snowcap towards the peak.
By the time I reached the peak, I was completely tired because of low oxygen levels and I was unable to walk anymore. Happyson and Godwin rescued me by half carrying me to lower altitudes till I could walk by myself.
I highly recommend this tour. If you want to reach the peak, only Happyson can help you do it, while making sure that you enjoy the whole journey.

This was the most unreal experience and the biggest achievement of my life. The whole crew was incredibly hospitable and welcoming. They motivated us every step of the way. Especially Emmauel, without whose positive energy I don't believe I would have made it especially on summit night which is the most physically draining and mentally challenging day yet the most fulfilling one. They treated us like family and the food was to die for. I really need the recipe to those soups. The porters were the sweetest people I have met and they went out of their way to take care of us.
Overall, I cannot recommend them enough.
