About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- S7051UTlilyc0 contributionsUnforgettable !Our safari experience with Swahili paradise tours is really worth every penny. It was also the cheapest price. Peter our guide was amazing! So friendly, funny, kind and knowledgeable. We saw about 20 different animals, including some of the Big 5. The hostel camp site we stayed at was really great too, very social, good food and good entertainment. I would recommend this experience!Written July 23, 2024
- J4052BZadams0 contributionsUnforgettable trip of a lifetimeWe signed up for the 8-day Lemosho trek of Mt Kilimanjaro with Swahili Paradise Tours/Africa Tours and Safaris and the experience on the mountain was beyond anything we ever could have imagined! I’d highly recommend our guides Angelo and Felix who were always smiling and helping us along the way. Our chef James also cooked amazing vegetarian food on request and we never went hungry. It was honestly some of the best food we’ve had during our travels in Africa. The entire mountain crew paid so much attention to detail… there were so many little things we didn’t expect that made camping on the mountain more comfortable like hot water bottles for bedtime, popcorn and hot milo for snacks, hot tea and coffee inside our tents to wake us up in the morning, while a table and chair set was always waiting for us at each camp when we arrived. We really could not fault the mountain crew. Their energy was infectious and it felt like we were one big family by the end of the tour. They even organised a birthday cake for my husband who had his birthday while on the mountain! For anyone wondering about the physical nature of the hike, we have done a few occasional multi-day hikes over the years and overall we found the hike was actually quite gradual and very doable. The only difficult day is summit day, because at the summit there is some snow which makes it cold and to get to the top in time for sunrise you need to start hiking before midnight, but you can always take it slow and trust me when I say the views are so worth it! Obviously expect that with the nature of camping on a remote mountain, you’ll be encountering mountain toilets and you’ll want to bring adequate clothing, pills to prevent altitude sickness and aquatabs to purify the drinking water (or boil it), regardless of how clean the mountain water appears. If you don’t mind camping and you love nature then this is definitely a wonderful trip to consider. We had clear starry nights on the mountain too. Push yourself to take a look outside your tent at sunrise and sunset, otherwise you’ll miss some magical views!Written June 30, 2024
- enricotJ1699RJ0 contributionsHORRIBLE. DO NOT TRUST THIS CONPANYI really need to write this review because tourists need to know that Swahili Paradise and Tours is completely UNRELIABLE and with a TERRIBLE ORGANIZATION. In summary: - our contact Jimmy disappeared once we did the payment - No timely answer about how to pay the balance amount that finally had to be payed with their own personal exchanging rate (+10%) - Lodge with employees that does not speak English and not helping during 2 blackouts and not working showers - Wrong informations about how to use the showers in the lodge - Terrible organization to collect our luggage - Employees asking for the wrong amount of money (they discounted 3$ on an amount of 665$) and after all that we were asked for the remaining 3$. - After all that, jimmy did not even understand that there were SOME problems - Before writing this review we gave Jimmy a feedback about the whole experience and he did nothing to improve the situation DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY.Written June 28, 2024

- Sarahvr10 contributionsThey threatened us and locked us in the campsite so that we couldn’t leaveWe booked a “joining safari” with Swahili Paradise Tours and we thought this meant that we’d be with others. We were not told that this meant our itineraries were subject to change because of others joining on and off regularly with different itineraries. We did not receive the same itinerary as was promised and the photographs in the advertisement were very misleading. The biggest problem was that, on the one "full day safari" we paid for, we were finished with the safari by 12pm. We then spent three hours driving around doing admin tasks for the driver, such as dropping off equipment and other guests. By the time we reached Panorama camp site it was 3pm and we were left to do nothing for the rest of the day. I contacted Jimmy immediately to ask for a refund, saying we are only willing to pay for the safari we have been given. Jimmy ignored my screenshots of the emails and declined my calls. When he finally picked up to our calls, he absolutely flipped out on my boyfriend over the phone, screaming at him that there is no way we can get our money back and accusing us of taking advantage of him. Things escalated after we told him that we have a legal case to get our money back based on us not getting what we were promised in the advertisement. Jimmy responded by threatening, “my friend free advise don’t threat a person in Tanzania” followed by, “As far we know where you stay” (referring to the volunteer house in Arusha where we were based). Although his English was horrendous, it was clear he was threatening us. We then called a taxi and tried to leave Panorama Campsite because we did not feel safe. Once our taxi driver arrived, the Swahili Paradise Tours and Panorama Campsite staff locked the gates and told us we could not leave. They kept making different excuses about why we had to stay the night. We begged them into the night, by the end of which a large group of men had accumulated. They ignored us and spoke to each other in Swahili. We later found out the Jimmy had instructed his staff to lock us in and not let us leave, so we had to spend the night there (and pay for it). Barto, our chef, was a part of this. Pascale, our tour guide, arrived at a later stage and told us we deserve our refund, but still wouldn’t let us leave until our begging ran late. When I told the campsite staff I would call the police if they did not release us, he laughed at me and said, "haha, call the police". Suddenly, all of the staff backed off and let us leave (around 10pm). Our driver later told us that Pascale said to him that, if we leave, he will call the police and tell them that the taxi driver is transporting tourists illegally on the road. We left anyway, but not before Pascale kept ominously repeating “if something happens to you on the road, it wasn’t us”. My fears and suspicions were confirmed when our taxi driver drove to the police and informed them what had happened. We were warned by the police that local tour companies in the area are known to send people out on the road looking for runaway guests like us. We felt unsafe and had to pay to stay in a local hotel to ensure we were not being pursued. We never got our refund, and all Jimmy responded to our emails in all-caps threats to sue us for 10 000 USD, and other silly things like this. He also said that he spoken to another member of the trip and he recorded them saying that we admitted to trying to find any way to get money back so we could go spend it on our vacation. When I asked the other member, our newly acquired friend, he said “who is Jimmy?” and said that this was a complete lie. All in all, this was a terrifying and disastrous experience. We are students and volunteers with not much money. We paid 320 USD over what we should have to Swahili Paradise Tours and we were victims to false advertising, threatened, and locked in a campsite against our will. We had to pay for us and our taxi driver to seek refuge from potential dangers on the road after our encounter with them. Be safe and please choose another guide company.Written June 14, 2024

- Wilfred V0 contributions2 day safari. Great experience! We had a wonderful 2 day safari. Tarangire and Ngorongoro crater. We saw all the big animals. Big 5 ✅. Drivers/guides were good. We were two and booked a join group safari. The first day however we got a privat safari. The second day we joined 4 others. There was some confusion about the lodge. So we spilled some time looking for the right lodge. But this was a really nice lodge.Written May 8, 2023

- kkaradimova0 contributionsBig thanksI cannot thank these people enough. On the day of my safari I got robbed while being held at gunpoint and ended up injured. I was in no condition mentally or physically for a safari. Not only was Jimmy understanding when I called him to whether cancel or reschedule the trip , but he also talked to the driver ( the one who was supposed to take me to Mikumi) and he drove me to the police, waited , eve offered we go to the hospital and then returned me to my home. I had the safari the weeks after and it was amazing. The driver (the same one) made sure I was alright and comfortable on the whole way there and back. My guides were absolutely amazing. Very charming and talkative , made sure to stop every time they saw I wanted to take a pic and even spent 30 min looking for lions just so I can see some ( AND I DID). The best people I could have gotten. Made the experience unforgettableWritten November 13, 2021
- JenH15920 contributionsGood bang for your buck budget tourWe are booked a Kilimanjaro trek for lemosho route, 6 day northern Tanzania safari including ngorogoro crater, Serengeti, lake manyara and tangire NP for 9 people and an additional southern Tanzania safari. 7 of us stayed at the Swahili house in between, and Jimmy arranged for a hotel for the other 2. Overall a very positive experience. Jimmy arranged everything seemlessly including an alternative tour option out of Dar es salaam for two people in our company not wanting to hike the mountain. He was good with communication leading up to and during the trip. Definitely more engaged before he got paid but appropriately responsive afterwards. We had no big issues or surprise expenses. Everything was transparent. Our food was outstanding. One of our tour guides, John, was exceptional, we enjoyed George as well but John had a real knack for finding the good stuff. Dinner and driver arrangements were great, including airport transfers. This is overall a solid company that treated us well for a budget option. Just a few points we wished we could have changed. The Swahili house is too small for 7 people, seems like 6 max would be the limit. We really wanted a full day in the crater per our itinerary because that was the best spot, but we weren’t super privy to the tour itinerary as it completed flipped to accommodate additional people, discussing this would have been ideal and spare our disappointment. I wish Jimmy had done more tour guiding while with us or split up and gone with George who needed more support. The guide he hired for the trek was amazing tho. Price was the best we could find anywhere. So all in all, happy with our choice and at that price to have one company arranged everything and have it go well really during COVID, we were satisfied. Never seemed to have anything shady happening, we booked local to keep our money local and with this company it went great. We saw all the animals we’d hoped and more!Written November 9, 2021
