- lisafU6109WI0 contributionsAuthentic and magic experience! It was a great experience, the best so far in Morocco! We loved everything: the visit to Tamagroute, the Camel ride and the dinner. The guide was so helpful and kind. We reccomend you if you are looking for an authentic experience in Zagora Desert!Written August 23, 2024
- jacobsY2042WA0 contributionsDunes. Camels. Like nothing you've ever seen. The tour was a fantastic experience. Trips don't always leave promptly and it's always good to be able to go with the flow while travelling... both of these certainly apply here. Still, I absolutely recommend Zagora Desert Travel for anyone looking for tours in Morocco. They're a reliable and communicative group.Written July 6, 2024
- marct1590 contributionsAmazing experience at the middle of the desertAmazing stay with Ali and Ibrahim. Nice tents with comfortable beds. They played music next to a fire and we ate an amazing Tajin. Thanks!Written July 2, 2024

- Z7611LFstefanieh0 contributionsBumpy rides and peaceful adventures in picturesque dunesOur trip exceed our expectations! Our first stop was at a Kasbah where we learned about traditional local pottery which was extremely impressive. After an hour, we reached the desert where our adventure began with a bumpy but very fun ride across beautiful dunes and rocks. We were welcomed by very friendly locals who showed us around a well equipped and clean camp. There was even a bathroom and a shower. After a quick snack, we enjoyed a camel ride into the sunset and were able to climb the dunes. The sunset in the desert was quite impressive! We were treated by a very delicious Tajine dinner and spent the rest of the evening talking to the locals, leaning a lot about culture and traditions. The night was very peaceful and relaxing. Personally, we would recommend to leave the light on as we met some scorpion and spider before going to bed. No less impressive was the high number of snake tracks on the dunes in the mornings (our guide assured us that none of the animals were dangerous as long as being left alone). Our driver as well as our guide, Rashid, were extremely friendly and knowledgeable and we would highly recommend both to everyone :) thank you for this fun experience!Written April 19, 2024
- P4455FVfrankm0 contributionsA wonderful time in Erg ChigagaFor my daughter and me the trip to Erg Chigaga was the high point of our trip to Morocco. The car ride through the desert, the camel ride at sunset, good food, happy singing around the campfire, clean spacious tent, we enjoyed it wholeheartedly ! The view over the desert sitting on top of a sand dune.. unforgettable..Written March 25, 2024
- 395lilam0 contributionsTrip in the Sahara !Wonderful trip in the Sahara, the feeling in the desert left my friends and I voiceless, from the complet silence of the desert to the local musicians who came to perform at night, the trip was amazing. A real cultural immersion surrounded by Ismael and his amazing team. The food is excellent and the landscape unforgettable. I recommend this exceptional experience !! Thank you.Written February 15, 2024
- kenzan20210 contributionsBest trip for an escape from realityAmazing trip thanks to Ismail. Will absolutely recommend this trip to anyone seeking an escape from their daily lives. - MarPol_Zja0 contributionsFeel the desertThis wasn't my first trip to the desert in Marocco. But this one was really great. You can feel like you are at the end of the world. Erg Chigaga is really awesome. Offroad 4x4 was the adventure in itself. The whole team was very professional and the dinner was one of the best in Morocco. As a family of four we got a nice discount. Highly recommended.Written January 28, 2024
- Marek K0 contributionsErg Chigaga desert tripI can totally recommend this tour. I have zero complaints, quite the contrary! Everything was very well organised, the tagine I had on the desert was one of the best I had in Morocco! The guide was very helpful and really made sure we knew what to do. The camp was much more comfortable than I had expected too! The beds were nice and clean :) There was a little bonfire and music in the evening too. The Erg Chigaga was just stunning!Written December 31, 2023
- eminencet20220 contributionsDesert LuxuryLuxury in the desert.. the tents, thick blankets for the cold at night, comfortable beds, the candle lit dinners by the chef (the food was some of the best I had in Morocco and in the middle of the desert too!!) .. the attention to detail is beyond. Erg Chigaga dunes have magic and the staff has it too. They are incredibly kind and accommodating and will answer almost any questions you have about the desert with charm. I’ll never forget my experience here. If you are searching for top notch service this is your answer ..🫶🏼🫶🏼Written December 17, 2023
- E6217GAstefant0 contributionsFirst time to the DesertWe are just back from our Trip feim Zagora to Erg Chegaga. This Trip was perfekly organised by ZagoraDesertTravel. Salah, the most charming and friendly man we met here picked us up from our Kasbah in Zagora with a 4x4. We had a wonderfull drive with a view stops like the Pottery in Tamegrout. After Mhmid the road ended an we were going ofroad. Salah, our guide was a perfekt driver. On the way we hat great views oder the fantastic Landscape. After we reached the beautiful Camp we were offerd some nice Tea. After dinner ( very nice ) We walked a bit to watch the Stars...amazing. In the middle of the tents there is a fire place... You can enjoy setting by the fire with traditional Musical n singing. After a delicous breakfast we were riding on a dromedar through the desert. We stopped at a tamariske tree for some nice tea and perfect chicken barbecue... On the way Salah our guide showed us the realy nice and hidden secrets of erg chegaga. He always could awnser our questions. We are really glad we made this Trip. It was our first Trip with Zagora Desert Travel but it was for Sure not the last. - 185michalp0 contributionsAmazing and memorable experienceWe decided to do the shorter trip to Zagora desert and it was a fantastic family experience! Communication with the team was excellent from the beginning, staff was very friendly and helpful. Camel trekking was amazing and great fun, kids absolutely loved it. Camp was nice and basic, views were amazing, people very welcoming and friendly. Great food, evening entertainment, we slept under the stars and watched a beautiful sunrise from the dunes. Fantastic experience for adventurous people. Definitely must do thing when in Morocco.Written August 27, 2023
- 244marenas0 contributionsExciting trip to the desert! We had a great time on the trip. We drove initially to a small town where we were shown an interesting local pottery community, and taken on a short tour that explained the process of making. We then drove (mostly off-road which was exciting) through to the desert where we were treated to an exciting 1 hour camel ride, a lovely dinner and music made by the locals in the camp. The accommodation itself was super cozy, a bit warm, but running water and a shower was an option, as well as a Communal toilet. In the morning, we had the freedom to hike and climb any dunes we wanted, after which we were provided a tasty breakfast with tea, coffee and warm milk. We finished the day with sand boarding on the dunes which was entirely free of charge and open ended. Overall I would recommend going on this tour.Written May 17, 2023

The trip to the desert was GREAT. We had a wonderful experience. The camp is realy deep in the desert. The road to the camp itself is an adventure. Camp location is just next to the dunes so you can climp them right away for the sunset or sunrise. Meals were great. We had bonefire with berber music. View of the sea of dunes is experience you cannot miss. Camels roam in the neighbourhood of the camp so you can interact with them. In the end the whole experience is worth every penny. I highly recommend going to the desert with Zagora Desert Travel.

Our family of five had the most incredible trip to the dunes. We packed so much into the trip including two camel rides, sand dune surfing, swimming, and amazing visits including to the incredible UNESCO site Ait Ben Haddou and the film studios.
Ismail took us on the tour and was so friendly and helpful. The camp itself, which we arrived at by camel, was beautifully situated in the dunes. The tents were great (we had one with a bathroom), the staff were so friendly (and played the drums by the camp fire in the evening), and the evening meal was delicious.
We would thoroughly recommend the trip and are so happy to have been with Ismail and his company. Despite going at the start of the summer season (July), the temperatures were manageable. We would certainly do it again. Thank you!

Organised this tour from Marrakesh. As with all things where you book online, you are never sure of what to expect. First thing to check was that these guys are officially licences with the Moroccan Tourism Board. Ismail sent copies of the paperwork, but we also found out that Police can check this at any of the many roadblocks you encounter on the way.
First thing to note is there is a lot of driving. Ismail was supernatural… I couldn’t have done it in a day, that’s for sure.
The Tichka pass was something we were a little nervous of having seen various stories and images. However the road was widened 2 years ago and is nothing like as scary as it may once have been. It is spectacular though.
We stopped off along the way at various locations. One was a women’s cooperative producing argan oil products. Of course we paid tourist prices, but happy to do so in the circumstances, however the when ringing up the sale, I worked out that 50% of what I paid was going somewhere and while there a man came in and took a lot of cash from the woman at the till. This was perhaps our only reservation, it nothing to do with the tour itself.
Ismail made the call for us to head out to the camp sooner and do the various excursions on the second day. I think this was a good option as it gave us more time in camp that evening. It meant arriving back later in Marrakesh, which was ok for us, but meant a longer day for him, but was much appreciated.
We did stop for a good break at his brother’s hotel.l for lunch. Note it has a pool, so take your swimmers. We went in our spare clothes as we hadn’t known about the pool stop, but we had about an hour and a half break, which meant it was cooler for our arrival
In the desert.
The ride to the camp as the sun was setting was fantastic. The hour ride was more like 99 mins as our lovely guide Ahmed was really happy to stop to take photos for us and he knew just when to break for water. It was less hot by then too, although being July, we were still up in the high 30’s by sunset.
Again, as it was so hot, we found that the camp was empty as we arrived with only four other people jointing us about an hour later.
Camp was relaxed and I worked out when Ismail stopped en route in Zagora that this was run by Caravan du Sud, who have look reviews in the Lonely Planet. These were merited.
Our accommodation had en suite that we had to pay extra for, but was necessary for us, but maybe not for everyone. When the camp was this quiet it might not have been an absolute requirement.
The rooms and linen were spotless. The LP suggests that some of the desert camps at Erg Lihoudi were tired and in need of renovation… this is not one. It was more that we expected in the desert. It’s not the super luxe experience that our villa hosts tried to suggest, but it felt far more in keeping with the desert surroundings. It was really relaxed. After some tea with our hosts we were left to decompress before our meal.
The meal was the delicious. Too much food as seems to be the way in Morocco. We have a mix of vegetarians and non-vegetarians. All parties were well fed.
After this another bit of relaxation and some star gazing before music around the camp fire.
We all slept well. The tents have no fans, but considering the heat of the day had kept relatively cool. Of course we’ve spent a few days already in Marrakesh so have gradually acclimatised. Besides after the journey and the camel ride we were all pretty tired.
Next morning watching the sun rise over the dunes was very special. Get yourselves up early for this. It is worth it. We then had our typical Moroccan breakfast and a quick bit of sand boarding.
The camel ride back was optional… some might prefer a rod in the 4x4, but it was a quicker ride than the previous evening in quickly rising temperatures and fewer photo stops… it took about an hour in a straight line versus 30mins in the 4x4.
We stopped again at the hotel
In Zagora, but for a drink rather than a swim. Then three extra tourist stops on the way. First was a boutique of ancient Berber crafts. There was surprisingly little pressure to buy (we didn’t) but a really full and interesting explanation of the many wonderful goods on display, many of them ancient…. It was more like a museum.
Next stop was the Atlas Film studios. A tour was optional, and we were undecided because of the heat, but very glad that we did pay the 80 MAD each. The sets are really interesting and you get the feeling that with CGI this is the increasingly the main income here.
I’m doing this we opted to eat at a service station close by to save time. Food was good and the place was very new, spotless and the food good if less authentic and more European. It did allow us more time in the day though, which was well spent.
We used the rest of the day for a tour around Ait Ben Haddou, with a guide. You could go without one easily enough, but happy to spend 50MAD per person to support the local economy.
Thoroughly recommend this stop. The place is really special. You can see it getting overcrowded in high season though. We thankfully only passed one other group during our visit, which was probably in the hottest part of the day, but there was plenty of shade and a lot of wind. Hold onto you hats. The views were wonderful, so even in the heat, as long as you stop in the shade, it’s worth it…. Perhaps with event in Europe, we were overly cautious about the Moroccan heat, but so far it has been good. Only tip really is to grab your water before you enter the old town as you are a captive customer by then.
The drive back was via the Ounila Valley. I’d definitely suggest this to your guide. Tichka was spectacular, but this route was truly stunning. Passing Kasbah after Kasbah with the lush green of the river valley contrasting with the reds of the rock and the setting sun.
The road is narrower than Tichka, so a bit slower, but well worth it. Thank you Ismail for making this executive decision even though it meant prolonging the tour. It was very much appreciated.
All in all I thoroughly recommend this. If you’re English speaking, try to get Ismail to accompany you. Most of their clients are Spanish speaking and they are seeking more UK clients. Ismail’s English is great so if you can get him or another English speaking guide, don’t be put off by the fact that most reviews here are from Spain… they will
make arrangements for you.
This two day tour was jam packed. Yes we were tired after, but we’re are relaxing now with many special memories.
We had other options, but very glad we took this one!
Thanks again Ismail. My sister is coming to Marrakesh next year with her Spanish family, we will definitely recommend that she uses you.
