This trip takes you through very different vistas as you progress through the Atlas Mountains. The mountain guide on our trek to the waterfalls was very solicitous, recognising those in our group needed a hand here and there on the way up (and down) the mountain. The driver keeps up an informative commentary and is happy to stop for photos along the route. The Berber family are very welcoming and provide a delicious meal in their home. Love that this trip is a small group tour (max 8 but 4 of us on our tour), has no extras to pay for and no visits to shops where you feel pressured to buy things.
Top tip - I recommend trainers plus warm clothes (trousers and jacket) as the temperature is significantly cooler in the mountains.

So, here’s what’s going to happen on this trip. We did it last week. You will be picked up at 8.15am by the driver who will contact you via WhatsApp the night before. He will drive you in an SUV to the foot of the Atlas Mountains but on the way you can stop at an Argan Oil place where women make the oil. This is optional and I would suggest you give it a miss. I didn’t feel that it was genuine and I got the impression that the women are wheeled out as and when a tourist group arrives and it just so happens that they have a very well stocked shop with all they goodies to sell you at really expensive prices. True, I haggled her down but it isn’t worth it in my view. So, once you get to the bottom of the mountain (about an hour drive) you will be handed over to another guide and it is he who will guide up the first valley. He was absolutely brilliant and a major asset to have on what was a hilly and rocky trip lasting an hour to climb up and half an hour to get down. The heat isn’t as bad up there but take it easy, take the sun block and the hat and wear sturdy shoes/boots. Some parts are up rocky steep climbs so you need to be relatively fit. We are both able bodied and in our mid fifties and got through it ok. Great views, nice waterfall, photo opportunities everywhere and a great experience. At the bottom you will relax in an outdoor café with a nice tea or juice but do take plenty of water with you. That is the end of the hiking as the rest of the valleys are reached by car so you resume the trip back with your original driver. You will go up and up and up via several winding roads but our drive Abdullah was a great driver and a very nice young man giving us lots of knowledge on the local surroundings. At the top, you meet a Berber family who will give you lunch in a great mountaintop setting. The food was truly delicious and will get LOTS of it. You will be there for about two hours before a 90 minute return drive to Marrakech. We were back at about 5.15pm. It was a great day and really good value for what we did.

This day excursion was the highlight of our trip.

The Atlas Mountains were stunning and the best Moroccan food we had was home made at the Berber family we stopped at for lunch. Just that lunch made my trip. The Berber family were so welcoming and their children beautiful. I would recommend if you decide to do this trip, bring sweets and maybe some colouring crayons/paper to give to the kids. I wish we had.

Abdul was absolutely wonderful. His command of English was brilliant and he was so knowledgable about everything.

The car was very comfortable and his driving was extremely safe - we did not once feel uneasy.

We were given the option of stopping at the womens cooperative which I’m glad we did but make sure to agree on price before purchasing anything because we definitely got caught out on that one!!

I cannot recommend this trip enough. Thanks Abdul for such a great day.

Our time on this tour was absolutely lovely! We were guided by Abdullah, a lovely young man incredibly knowledgeable of both Moroccan and Berber culture, music, and history. Our day began around 8:15am when Abdullah picked us up close to our Riad in the Medina of Marrakech in an air conditioned Mercedes van. After, we went on about an hour drive up into the Atlas Mountains. Along the way, Abdullah made great conversation with me, giving me some background history on Morocco, and the region we were approaching. There were also many opportunities to stop and take beautiful photos, and Abdullah was more than willing to take group photos for us.

Once up to the Atlas Mountains, our trip consisted of visits to the “Five Valleys.” The first valley consisted of our “cardio” of the day. It was between a 45 minute and 1 hour hike, up through one of the villages tucked away in the mountains. Most of the terrain was steep rocky steps, which could be quite wet when close to the water coming from the waterfall at the top of the hike. The hike was quite tiring, and there are many steep inclines, with slippery steps on the side of a cliff with no guardrails. I would recommend only taking this hike if you are in relatively good shape, and do not have a fear of heights. It was tough, but definitely rewarding! At the top of the hike there is a waterfall and a small cafe to give out sodas, tea, or orange juice, and the view is absolutely incredible.

When we returned from the hike, Abdullah was waiting for us, and bought us waters to make sure we stayed hydrated. We then drove to the second valley, again stopping for pictures. At the third valley, we were able to have a lunch with a Berber family. Abdullah and his colleague are some of the only people able to provide this experience, as many of the Berber people live in isolated villages. When arriving at the village, we had a group of children rush towards us, and walked with us towards the home where we would be having lunch.

At the Berber home, we were greeted by a man, his pregnant wife, three children and four cousins. All of the children were adorable, and helped us wash our hands, showed us their home, and helped serve the meals. There was a vegetable soup appetizer, a tomato medley that we called “Moroccan salsa” with fresh bread, and then a choice of vegetable or chicken tajine. The food was delicious, but the experience of having it at a traditional Berber home in the mountains really added to the experience. After the meal, the man served us mint tea, talked with us briefly, and sent us on our way.

At this point, we were quite tired as it was getting close to around 4:00pm, and we were tired from the hike and full from the meal. Abdullah recognized this, got us more waters, and took us to the remaining two valleys, and then took us back to Marrakech where we were dropped off in the same location we were picked up. This tour was an incredible experience. The food, culture, and topography of the Atlas Mountains are different from anything I have ever seen, and I am so grateful to have had Abdullah as our guide on this incredible adventure! 5/5 stars!!

This was one of our favorite activities/tours. Our tour guide, Abdul Rahman, had a vast historical knowledge of the area and was passionate about his job. He texted us via WhatsApp a day before the activity and was prompt on pickup day. We were pleased to meet two sweet women from France who joined the tour. Abdul Rahman was kind and made us feel comfortable. We laughed and discussed the region's history on the way to the Atlas Mountains. The scenery was beautiful. We stopped at a facility in which Berber women make Argan oil. The women were knowledgeable and provided great hospitality. We learned so much about Argan Oil. We enjoyed mint tea and y7ummy warm Berber bread with honey. We bought a few small bottles of Argan oil because we wanted to contribute to the working women. We got back in the car and drove up the Valley. There was a beautiful river and river-side eateries. We met our second guide Latif who helped us hike up the mountain to the waterfall and back down. It was a great experience. We highly recommend hiking shoes and sunscreen. Make sure to carry change so you can tip your guides and the juice shop owner who made tasty orange juice for us. We passes through mountain shops and made a few small purchases. We said bye to Latif and returned to the car with Abdul Rahman. We drove to another valley, where we enjoyed a delicious meal cooked by a Berber family. It was so peaceful there and the setting was amazing. We highly recommend this activity for families, groups, and couples. Trust us you will not regret it. Abdul Rahman and his team are professionals and experienced. We will definitely come back and do this tour again. We liked Abdul Rahman so much that we decided to book another tour with him to the port city of Essaouria.
Thank Abdul Rahman for being the best tour guide.

We thoroughly enjoyed our full day of tours with Abdul. We did the whole itenary as planned. Abdul has a deep understanding of the history of the area, which made the experience come alive. The way he presented the places that we visited, and in the order he presented them (from the waterfall hike to the mountains to the local markets), gave us a real appreciation of Marrakech and its periphery and its place in history. The family we visited for lunch were really friendly with amazing hospitality, so we got a nice aspect of the culture of the region. Abdul makes himself easily available and flexible to attend your wishes. Using Abdul as our tour guide to visit the Atlas Mountains was a treat. Not having to deal with or wait for strangers in a larger group also made the experience more personal. Will definitely recommend Abdul and team to friends and associates who are planning a trip to Marrakech. Many thanks.

An absolutely brilliant day visiting the five valleys. Ismail was a mine of information about the area and was great fun to spend the day with. The hike to the waterfall was great fun but the highlight was lunch with a Berber family. We sat on the roof of their house with the best view ever and ate home made Tagine, soup, salad and Moroccan tea all included in the price. We really cannot recommend too highly. Bargain too!!

The dream of travelling to the Atlas Mountains was made a reality by our driver/guide Abdul. He is a very knowledgeable guide as he comes from both the mountains and the desert. He knew the roads and landmarks very well and he explained each and every one of them in details. He stopped at every natural features (rivers, canyons, waterfalls, etc) on the way so we could take pictures. He was also an excellent caneraman to add. It was really helpful that we left early than the other tours because we had the place to ourselves. On the main highlights, we stopped at the Argan Oil production house run by a cooperative of women. They showed us how Argan Oil was made and its different uses and forms. They were very hospitable and offered us tea and a taste of their products. We then proceeded to hike the valley to see a stunning waterfall and the mountain views. We even got to see a natural refridgerator made from the cold mountain water. The mountain hike guide Mohammad was excellent and he made sure we were all safe during the experience. Lastly, as the highlight of the tour, Adbul brought us to meet our host Berber family in the High Atlas Mountains approx 1800 meters above sea level. The family was very hospitable and welcomed us with open arms. We had one of the best tagine meals I have ever tastd. The ingredients were all fresh from the family's garden. Little Mohammed, the son of the family's patriarch stole our hearts with his playfulness and cute smile. Overall, we had a really good time on this journey. We would highly recommend the company for anyone wanting to see the views of the Atlas Mountains. Tips: Pls wear proper hiking shoes or boots and bring jacket for the cold mountain climate if travelling during January, Feb, March and April.

This trip was the absolute highlight of our visit to Marrakech. Our driver Khalid was exceptional in providing us information and answering any questions we had on anything. He would recommend stops to us where we could get the best photos and avoid the tourist traps. The first stop to go up to the waterfall was spectacular. There is a river cutting though the town that is unlike anything I have ever seen before and the views as you climb are amazing. The locals were very friendly and there is a clear sense of community there. It is noted in the description that there is hiking involved in this trip, heed that warning, it is a climb and good shoes are essential. Our lunch with the local Berbers ranks up there with our best meals of the trip, both the scenery and the food were fantastic. We were also brought into a traditional souk, which is a world apart from what you will see in the main square of Marrakech, it is where the locals go to get everything and is an experience worth seeing. We were lucky to get Khalid as our driver, as he made the trip for us. 10/10.

Full disclosure I loved this day trip however my review is based on the fact that I am young, able-bodied, and relatively fit. That being said, the trip was fun and super informative. We were picked up near our riad outside the Medina and drove to a village near the mountains with some stops for pictures along the way. Now here is the kicker: there is a waterfall hike when you get to the village. In terms of difficulty I’d say the hike was moderate but once again I am relatively young and healthy while others in my group (all twenty-something’s) struggled. The hike is rocky and slippery at times due to the water. Definitely need to wear shoes you can hike in (sneakers with good traction or boots). The experience was great and I’m glad I went but I wasn’t expecting such a high climb. (Note: if you are afraid of heights I’d advise against the hike and probably this whole trip) There are stairs in some places but they can be steep and high. If you are not able to make the climb you should ask to stay in the van or wait at one of the cafes down below. That being said after this hike you’re done with the walking and you drive up into the mountains, stopping along the way for pictures, to have lunch with a Berber family. Our guide/driver Abdullah was phenomenal. He made sure we were hydrated, got the pictures we wanted, made us feel safe driving the winding roads, and was extremely informative. He was so nice and helpful, as was the Berber family who cooked and served us lunch, and we felt very welcomed and left the trip exhausted and sweaty but happy we did it.
