- MarthSmith0 contributionsAmazing, would recommend! The service from start to finish was very efficient, no waiting around. All the staff were lovely, especially Lina our captain, she made the experience fun but we also felt very safe. The views and experience was amazing, would recommend for a bucket list moment!Written March 21, 2025
- E475SIlisas0 contributionsA must-do Marrakech experienceThe most amazing experience at sunrise. Our pilot was fantastic and experienced and the Berber breakfast was delicious. If you go to Marrakech this is a must do trip! Loved every minute!Written March 21, 2025
- lucymX5827IK0 contributionsAmazing experienceWe had the most amazing experience with Elena as our balloon pilot. We missed the sunrise which was a shame but we still loved the experience of going once the sun was up. The breakfast after was lovely too. Once in a lifetime experience, would definitely recommended ( and already have!) to others! Thank you.Written March 20, 2025
- CraigE11190 contributionsIncredible experienceWow!! What an incredible experience. Perfect from start to finish. The hot air balloon ride was incredible and very smooth. Our pilot Angel was very nice and funny. Great breakfast afterwards in a lovely location. Highly recommend.Written March 18, 2025
- Steve E0 contributionsDon’t miss this one, it’s far too good. You all need to do this trip, from start to finish it was the best experience we’ve done in Marrakech. Yes you’ve got to get out of bed very early and when you arrive on site it’s still very dark. You get a nice cup of coffee and a sweet pastry that was amazing. Toilets are available to wash your hands and do whatever else you need! Then you are transported a short distance to where the balloons are being gradually inflated by large petrol powered fans. As they grow in size the butane burners are introduced to quickly fill the balloon. Once the basket has righted itself it’s time to climb aboard! Not the easiest job but help is at hand from a great crew. Once in you’ll been introduced to your pilot then you all need to bend down below the top of the basket until it’s lifted off of the ground. The best part, you’re floating off to a final destination only the balloon and winds know. The pilot can raise or lower plus turn left or right, handy to turn to see the sunrise. You’ll get pictures your friends will envy. Once you’ve landed and been secured by the crew who chase you across the fields and desert sands, you return to the area you had your initial coffee and then you’re treated to a full Berber breakfast. All in all it was a magical experience that you shouldn’t miss.Written March 18, 2025
- Whitley M0 contributionsGreat Experience with Lina!A must do experience when staying in Marrakech! Our driver was on time and so nice, giving details and info along the way. Quick little stop for fresh coffee and pastries then you head out to the balloons! Our pilot, Lina, was amazing. Besides the view, she was a highlight of the day! You could tell she absolutely LOVES her just with an infectious personality! She takes fantastic photos, has music playing, all while navigating the balloon perfectly and professionally! She gives everyone certificates at the end, then you head to have more snacks and tea! 10/10 would do again.Written March 17, 2025
- mylifetolead0 contributionsA 'Do not miss' experienceBrilliant experience. Door to door from our hotel (TUI Blue Medina Gardens). WhatsApp communication the evening before to confirm the (very early!) pick up. Arrived with coffee/juice and pastries whilst awaiting the balloons to be inflated. Got to watch them rise before climbing in. Fabulous pilot who pointed out different aspects of the Atlas Mountains. Team on the ground were very helpful with preflight photos. Great traditional breakfast when back at base.Written March 17, 2025
- 78Red1210 contributionsRecommended.A well-oiled machine. Everything was organised professionally. We had a clear day so the views were amazing. It was a fun way to start the day!Written March 13, 2025
- echo10640 contributionsGO FOR ITOur Atlas Mountain Hot Air Balloon Ride was a wonderful experience and I would definitely do it again should I ever have the chance. We were picked up from our hotel on time and driven to the take off point where we were offered tea/coffee and lovely pastries. After the flight we were given breakfast which was also very good. Although the weather was a little overcast for our fight it was still amazing. All I can say is GO FOR IT.Written March 11, 2025

Video and photo shots available to buy, amazing quality and fabulous shots. Breakfast was included with ride price, as was pick up and drop off at hotel. On foggy morning, be aware you can't fly, but they will collect you from your hotel again the next morning and get you up in the air if they can.Written March 6, 2025

- H9422FYemilyc0 contributionsGreat morningFantastic morning. Picked up from the hotel promptly, taken to the base and given pastries as soon as we got out the minibus. Then waited around and taken to the hot air balloons. Yanis, our pilot, made everyone instantly at ease with his great sense of humour and made even the more anxious flyers at ease. Would absolutely recommend.Written February 17, 2025

This experience was part of my Birthday celebration in Morocco! I had never been in a Hot Air Balloon before and thought that this would be an amazing location to do it. We began the tour by traveling by van out into the desert before sunrise and seeing Balloons at varying heights floating in the sky while everyone waiting for their turn enjoyed traditional Moroccan Mint tea (or several other beverages) along with delicious pastries! Climbing into the basket of our Balloon, we were warmly greeted by Pilot Lina who was entertaining, informative and a whole lot of fun!!! We rose to 3000 ft. for spectacular views of the desert landscape, distant Atlas Mountains and a sunrise filtering through some clouds. Lina played a fitting playlist of music to enhance our experience and even surprised me with having everyone join her in singing Happy Birthday after which she had me make a wish and pretend to "blow out" the giant flames above our heads! She ended my celebration by presenting me with an adorable leather Camel as a gift!!! Back safely on the ground, we then entered a beautiful tent outfitted with traditional table settings and enjoyed a tasty and filling Berber breakfast. I would definitely and highly recommend this experience for anyone wanting a relaxing break from the bustle of Marrakech! ***Not sure why the description includes "Desert Camel" as there were no Camels there.
Very much looking forward to a future trip back to this mysterious destination!!!

Just wow!, we booked onto the early morning sunrise trip.
Hotel pickup was around 5:15, but well worth the early start.
This would depend on what time of year you travelled :-)
The drive took around 40 minutes, initially stopping for a small drink & bite to eat.
Then it was over to the where all the balloons were sat, ready for the flight.
It's hard to put into words what you will experience, its probably like nothing you've done before.
There were roughly 20 people in our basket, split into four groups of five people.
Following the safety briefing from our pilot we were asked to squat down whilst we took off.
No need to wrap up, the warmth from hot air blowers is more than enough to keep you warm.
It felt like we were up and airborne in no time at all.
The view is just amazing, not only of the mountains but also the sight of all the other balloons in flight as well.
Probably best if you look through the pictures to get a good feel of what to expect in the air.
The landing was smooth, one of the 4 x 4 's is used as a brake & anchor.
After landing your drive back to where we initially stopped for a breakfast.
This was bread, boiled eggs, doughnuts etc & tea / juice.
Aprox 20 minutes later, transfers start either rbcak to your accommodation or onward for a camel ride.

Collection from our hotel was bang on time in a comfortable 4 x 4, the driver who took us to the Berber camp for light refreshments and we had a short wait for other people to arrive. The hot air balloon was amazing with a lovely pilot Wafia who was so lovely and made us feel at ease. Getting in the basket was difficult for me but there was plenty of assistance. I am not always great with heights but this was nothing to worry about as I felt so safe. The views were unreal with a good view of the sun rise over the Atlas Mountains. Wafia took loads of photos which was great, she was really lovely. Landing was smooth and again there were no worries from any of us as we were asked to crouch down and pull a rope to ensure a smooth landing in fairly high winds. The Berber breakfast was lovely with no rushing us off to the next stop. We enjoyed the camel ride even though it was really only in a rough piece of land. We would highly recommend this trip to anybody considering how to make an amazing experience of a lifetime.

The activity is really nice and allows you to see and do lots of things at a very affordable price. The hot air balloon flight is particularly impressive, and the pilot was very kind, making the experience even more enjoyable.
However, I would like to draw your attention to two points:
Timing of flights: There are two slots for the hot air balloon flight: one at sunrise and another around 8 a.m. If you choose the later flight, be aware that you may not see much. During my experience, there were no other hot air balloons in the sky or sunrise to admire, which was quite disappointing.
Payment in advance: I highly recommend paying in advance. We had a mishap when choosing to pay on site: the organizers tried to charge us more than the agreed price. We had booked for 150€/person, or 3000 dirhams in total, but once we arrived in the desert, they tried to demand 4200 dirhams from us. We of course refused to pay this additional amount. So pay close attention to this to avoid inconvenience.

This review is three stars purely because we had a good experience in the hot air ballon.
The pick up was on time and the driver Mohammed was friendly. We chose the 5am pick up not realising this would just mean waiting by the side of the road on the outskirts of Marrakech waiting for another vehicle. The 4x4 advertised was in fact a minivan and therefore quite uncomfortable when we inevitably left the tarmac roads.
When arriving at the “Berber Camp” the door was opened and we had to find our own way to the refreshments. We were not ‘hosted’ nor were there any directions. The croissants were a free for all. We were here well over an hour with no direction or instruction.
When the time came to go to the balloon, instructions were shouted and we had to find our way back to our vehicle before driving several miles off-road (yes, in the minivan) to the launch site. It was a mad rush with all of the drivers competing to get to the front of the convoy.
Be aware that you will not be flying over the desert and you are on the northern side of the city when the Atlas Mountains are in the south.
The balloon ride itself was great although our pilot was a bit lively and played loud music when we really just wanted to enjoy a peaceful sunrise in the balloon. We were 1 of 45 balloons flying and were in the air around 30 minutes.
We then had a rough landing resulting in the ballon basket ending up on its side. I’m sure the pilot was trained yet the support staff were not familiar with the landing procedure and this did feel like a dangerous situation.
We then met the driver to return to the “camp” which took a while as he got lost. We were last back to the camp and breakfast was cold and had been sat for some time. It consisted of juice, mint tea, breads, honey, and jam.
I use the term “camp” loosely as this is a facade and is just a decorated room of a derelict house with rugs and a canvas tent roof.
We were then hurriedly bundled back into a different van with a different driver to go to the camel ride experience. This was about 40 minutes back towards the outskirts of the city. We arrived at what can only be described as a wasteland and greeted by some sad looking camels.
As per other reviews, these camels were tied so tightly together they could not move away from the flies. They had bare patches on their legs where they are forced to lay down. We were paraded around this wasteland through broken glass, plastic waste, and the camel’s poo for 15 minutes before returning to the van.
At this point we were fed up. There has been no communications of timings or ‘what’s next’ for the duration.
Driving back to Jemaâ el Fna we were involved in a collision. Again, no reassurance or communication from the driver.
Whilst not a deal breaker, the flight certificate offered never materialised and this would have been a nice memento of the experience.

While a hot air balloon ride is always a neat experience, I have to say that this particular trip was a bit of a disappointment.
We booked the sunrise balloon ride and were scheduled to be picked up at 6:00 am. By 6:15 we were beginning to wonder if we had been missed for pick-up, or forgotten about. Just as I was trying to contact the provider our driver arrived.
We had a 45 minute drive out to the balloon camp and were a bit surprised that no one was welcoming the participants or informing us of how this was going to proceed. There was a table of croissants, juice and water that people seemed to migrate to, but again, no invitation to help ourselves. We could see balloons already lifting off in the distance, but we were not able to watch the balloons being filled as listed in this tour description.
A first group of participants was lifting off,... still no one informing us of what we were doing... so we watched many others enjoy the sunrise balloon ride while we were on the ground. After 40 minutes our driver found us and told us that we were ready to go... so instead of getting the sunrise balloon ride that we booked, we had to drive out to where the first group of participants was coming down. The first participants had approximately one hour in the balloon. Once we go to their landing location we were piled into the basket.
Now,... my husband & I have done a balloon ride previously, and we were 8 to a basket (2 in each corner section of the basket). One this particular ride we were crammed in, 4 per basket, making it awkward and an little uncomfortable. It also did not allow us to move around to take in other views. After 35 minutes in the air we were brought to ground.
I don't feel that we got what we booked and paid for. Again, a hot air balloon ride is always a cool experience, but this one just didn't measure up to our expectations.

We booked a hot air balloon ride expecting a sunrise flight, only to be informed the evening before that our departure was pushed to 07:00 due to wind concerns (we were told it was unsafe for children, so ok). However, when we arrived at the launch site at 08:30, dozens of balloons were already in the air, enjoying the sunrise we missed.
The organization was chaotic – long, unexplained waits, a non-English-speaking guide, and poor communication. The actual balloon ride was enjoyable, equipment was brand new) but lasted only 30 minutes instead of the advertised 40-50 minutes. The post-flight breakfast was delicious, but again, followed by excessive waiting. The camel ride was fun but lasted just 10 minutes after another hour of waiting.
In total, we were out for 6.5 hours, with only about 40 minutes of real (enjoyable but short) activity and a breakfast. Compared to other excursions we did, this was the worst value for money. If I had to do my trip over, I’d skip this experience without hesitation.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your experience did not fully meet your expectations.
Regarding the flight timing, safety is our number one priority. The evening before your flight, we informed you that pre-sunrise conditions included strong wind gusts, making it unsafe—especially for children. As experienced pilots, we assess weather conditions carefully, knowing how and where we can land safely. The decision to delay the flight was made solely for safety reasons.
The flight itself lasted exactly **36 minutes** instead of the usual 40-50 minutes. The reason for this was the strong winds during the flight, which affected our landing options. The pilot had to make a **critical safety decision**, as the balloon was approaching power lines and mountainous terrain. In such cases, safety always comes first, even if it means a shorter flight.
As for the **camel ride**, it follows the **same 18-20 minute route** that we have operated for over 18 years. The duration has always been the same, and the camels are well cared for, regularly checked, and vaccinated.
We understand that waiting times can be frustrating, but ballooning is a weather-dependent activity that requires careful coordination to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all passengers. We do our best to manage logistics efficiently, but sometimes delays occur due to factors beyond our control.
We appreciate your feedback and will use it to continue improving our service. Thank you for choosing to fly with us, and we hope you still have fond memories of your experience
Regards

Firstly, the balloon ride element of this event was outstanding. Our pilot (Sancho) was fun and capable and we felt very safe. He made absolutely sure we had the best time possible whilst we were in the air.
However, the start and end of the trip was total chaos. Our driver picked us up, couldn’t be bothered to tell us what was going to happen (he had sufficient English), got lost in the medina looking for other passengers and kept us waiting in a lay-by for 20 minutes without explaining what was going on. We later deduced that this was to ensure that we were the 2nd group to take to the skies, and therefore we missed the sunrise (seeing it from the ground only). Then, on piling us back into his minibus at the end and of the Berber breakfast he explained that we were now being taken to the camel ride. 5 minutes later he shuffled us off again into his colleagues vehicle, saying that this other guy was now going to take us to the camel ride whilst he was returning to the city.
Off we set with driver number 2 only to be taken back to Marrakesh! No camels! Major upset in the vehicle, especially for two other passengers who were devastated to miss this, the highlight of their trip to Morocco.
None of us were very happy. Driver one screwed the morning up good and proper and I’d suggest the company need to think about how this attitude and the impact on visitors to Marrakech reflects on them.
Shame, as the ballon bit was fabulous.

Our family’s experience with the hot air balloon ride and authentic Moroccan breakfast, followed by a serene camel ride through the palm farms, was nothing short of extraordinary. This excursion, nestled just outside the vibrant city of Marrakech, was an unforgettable journey into the heart of Morocco's natural beauty and cultural richness.
The morning began with the gentle glow of the rising sun casting golden hues over the desert landscape. Floating high above the earth in a hot air balloon was a surreal experience—watching the vast expanse of the Moroccan terrain unfold beneath us, with the majestic Atlas Mountains in the distance. The tranquility of being aloft in the cool morning air, coupled with the breathtaking panoramic views, was truly magical.
After the balloon landed, we were treated to an authentic Moroccan breakfast, served in a beautifully arranged tent in a traditional setting. Freshly baked bread, honey, olives, eggs, and mint tea created a feast for the senses. The hospitality of the hosts added a warm, personal touch, making us feel like honored guests rather than tourists.
The morning adventure continued with a camel ride through the lush palm groves surrounding Marrakech. The camels, adorned in colorful traditional saddles, were gentle and well-cared-for. Our guide shared stories about the history and culture of the region, adding depth to the experience. As we swayed along the sandy paths beneath the towering palms, we felt transported to another time.
This tour was meticulously organized and seamless from start to finish, making it a perfect blend of excitement, culture, and relaxation. I would highly recommend this unique experience to anyone visiting Marrakech. It’s a memory I will cherish forever—a true highlight of my Moroccan adventure.
Thank you 🙏🏻

The hot air balloon ride was a magical experience. The feeling of weightlessness as the balloon floated gently upwards gave a breathtaking view of the landscape. The sunrise created a beautiful color palette that made the experience even more special. The pilot was knowledgeable and gave interesting information about the environment and the operation of the balloon.
Take-off and landing were smooth and safe. The silence high in the air, interrupted by the soft sound of the burner, was soothing. It was a unique way to see the surroundings from a different perspective and really relax.
The activity was well organized, with clear instructions and safety measures. After the flight there was a cozy finish with a delicious Moroccan breakfast, which was a nice and tasteful finish.
In short, a hot air balloon ride is an unforgettable experience that I can recommend to everyone. It offers a perfect combination of adventure, relaxation and beautiful views.

We are staying in essouira but will get a driver over to the start point if possible. Can we speak to someone directly to organise this?

I guess you can . Best things to do I'd say is look them up online and make contact.

We are 2 and we are booking for September. Is it possible for us to do a longer camel ride of 30 mins?
We are very concerned about it being only 15min. We would happily have a smaller breakfast.

BTW, I don't think the camel ride will be any longer even if you get there earlier. The camel tour only goes a set path before they turn it around and head back towards your 4x4. Perhaps speak to them and let them know and see if they can make an exception for the two of you.

Is it best or cheaper to pay in advance via a website or in person through a tour agency at the hotel?
Written April 13, 2023
We booked and paid through TripAdvisor and we found that to be the most affordable and reliable option

Is there any space to sit down during the air balloon ride? For someone who struggles to stand for long periods of time
Written November 5, 2022
It depends on the type of ride: group rides, no, but there’s also some special rides with breakfast at the ballon.

*Likely to sell out: Based on Viator’s booking data and information from the provider from the past 30 days, it seems likely this experience will sell out through Viator, a Tripadvisor company.
