About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- pedropcagoncalves0 contributionsCould be magicalStrange from the outside, kind of beautiful from the inside, can be tremendously outstanding. A XVIII century palace which needs to be cared of and a continuously work of repair and restoration. The path to get there is not easy though it really is straight ahead until the end of the road. But the end of the road, downhill, leads to a metal gate that reveals a chicane that continues on descending until you see what seems to be an entrance to a big construction. Pinned on maps as El Palace Mokri, not Riad Lalla Fatima, sits on a quiet area, on a corner of Fes. The family that ownes the palace lives there but that should be a reception or at least someone to receive you, tell you everything you need to know and welcome you. Unfortunately, for us, that was not the case since we have to search around the rooms and corridors to find a nanny/cleaning lady/housewife sweeping a living room full of dust and garbage. She was the one whom, very kindly and without speaking a word of English, French or Spanish, showed us the way to our room (which eventually was not the right one), explained in her way and with gestures how the locks worked, the wifi pass, where the towels were and got us some toilet paper. And we were "installed". A member of the family approached us later in the afternoon to say sorry and to ask about breakfast (which we didn't get the chance to try). As for the rest, the palace is beautiful and it would be even better if it got take care of and if someone would give us (other visitors) a tour. With a warmer reception, directions and explanation on how to get there, a small tour of the place and a little big cleaning up, it really can become an unforgiven experience.Written October 9, 2023
- 128xabierc0 contributionsGreat experience in an amazing buildingWe got a beautiful room, a really nice breakfast and everything you can expect in a riad, plus an amazing building. We were fortunate enough to sleep at the end of the maze, :), so we managed to explore most of the building when entering and leaving. Simply amazing. Also, traveling in winter I would say that we had all the heating we needed. Aziza, the woman, was of great help: kind, welcoming, relaxed, and helped us much more than what it should be expected (help with taxi, help with bookings and help with a last minute printing which saved us a lot of money). I would come back here, no doubt, the next time. I left when the feeling of having a friend in Fès. Ah, I nearly forgot: as gay travellers, we appreciate the special kindness of Aziza and her family. No questions asked, no "I can offer you a room with separate beds", and all that stuff.Written January 8, 2023

They received us with tea and helped us with every question we had. We loved the quiet atmosphere and the friendly and helpfull staff! The rooms are very clean. So we decided to stay antother night.Written April 29, 2022
- Luca M0 contributionsDisappointing stayI took part of a 10 days trip organized by a local travel agency in Morocco through Casablanca, Essaouira, Marrakech, Tinghir, Ait Benhadou, Fes, Meknes : it’s been beautiful, amazing country and people However, our 8people group and a very bad experience in Lalla Fatima Riad: - We checked in/out 22-24 April 2022 and been trying for 2 days to anticipate the breakfast time to 8AM with no success: we’ve been pushed back for Ramadan reasons and the breakfast has been available starting 9AM only: this means, breakfast room heating, tables arranged, plates, foods.. starting only after 9AM, while we had a strict departure for our day program at 8:30 we had to move: this caused delays, guide tour postponed etc. - We all knew and respected the Ramadan which begins at the sunrise in the day and could cause delays and restrictions in our visits in the cities, but it’s difficult to find a reason for the breakfast room opening at 9AM with nothing ready - Last but not least, breakfast was good with plenty of foods, with American coffee, orange juice: however when one day we asked for a refill of 1 orange juice, the glass came with the bill of 20DHS (2EUR): I am used to travel everywhere around the globe for business and leisure and never ever faced something like this, it’s ridiculous (picture attached) We wanted to flag this to avoid the same situation for future travelersWritten April 26, 2022
- 204shaimaaa0 contributionsYou really want to stay thereA very friendly staff ... open a long chat with them, hear the stories behind the house and the names. I recommend reserving ‘ward’ room in the 1st floor a royal room! Breakfast is ALL homemade. Don’t miss the view from the roof.Written November 4, 2019
- Chantelle C0 contributionsNice place but would choose a different roomFirst of all, this place has great potential and is in a good location, but I will provide some advice so you can request the most comfortable room. When booking our rooms we were left with no option but the last two rooms available--the place was fully booked. In walking around the property and in reviewing the photos of rooms later we realize there is a big difference in quality and location of rooms so it will be helpful to ask specifically for the right rooms for your stay. I recommend asking for a room that is not on the main floor where meals are served, but rather near the garden or upper level if you are able to climb a set or two of stairs. First of all--the service was good, staff was friendly and the rooms were very clean. Our rooms were a bit dated with worn furniture, but it added to the charm. From photos, it appears that the rooms on the higher levels are nicer and more spacious, though ours were fine and comfortable. There are many choices of rooms and I would recommend not choosing a room on the main floor where breakfast and dinner are served. Our rooms literally opened up 2 feet from other guests ordering dinner, which was awkward coming and going as families were eating right outside of our door. It was loud in the morning when breakfast was served to all of the guests if you like sleeping in. also the kitchen is on the main floor so you get all the sounds and smells of the staff cooking if on the first floor. What made our main floor rooms especially awkward was I was sick for 2 days (I will spare you the details) but it could not have been enjoyable for the family that was eating dinner right outside of the window of our bathroom. There is a garden terrace and upper rooftop deck for lounging that are beautiful if it is not raining. breakfast was good and the staff were friendly and helpful. The location was really good--right on the edge of the medina which made it easy to access a vehicle outside the gates if needed, easy to get bags to the Riad when cars are not permitted in old town, and it was quick to get to the hustle and bustle of the inner medina. I would recommend the stay, the Riad was nice and good value for money, but choose your room location with care.Written April 30, 2019
- wouterdewaard0 contributionsBeautiful authentical place with best breakfast and dinner that you can imagineThe establishment is run by the third generation of owners (their grandfather's house). Beautifully converted family house with authentic marrocan style. All owners and staff friendly and helpful and the best hosts imaginable. Breakfast is 10 stars. Please have dinner for at least one night during your stay, it is a wonderful experience in taste and atmosphere.Written September 7, 2018
- kenn19440 contributionsgreat riad...family owned and runlocation is great...away from the noise and trendy places in the city. the family who own and run are friendly, the daugter speaks very good,as well as french, spanish, and arabic. the courtyard is very relaxing. the best part of staying there is the food...outstanding,a definete step above any other food I ate in my travels in morocco. the mother owned a well respected restaurant for many years, before serving the same quality at their riadWritten December 23, 2017
- Jarko20150 contributionsUnimpressedI am quite surprised by the rave reviews for this property as my experience was very different indeed. There's not much to be impressed by here, but the rates probably reflect this. I booked through Expedia and the booking was quite clear: Private bathroom, toileteries, etc., all the normal hotel amenities. When I checked in, I was shown to a room which had no bathroom. There is a "private" bathroom, but it's across a public hallway. Not exactly private in the truest sense. Plus they do not provide any bathroom amenities such as shampoo or soap in the shower. When I questioned this, I was just told "this is the room you booked". I just booked a room. Nothing specific. Expedia then sent me an automated email making sure check in was OK and I answered honestly. As I was sitting in my room, I got a truly vicious email from the property manager, furious about my comments about the separate bathroom and lack of amenities. From that point on, I knew there was no way I could stay the full five nights as I was the ONLY guest. They could have given me ANY room as there were no other bookings, something they admitted when I checked in. The room itself is long, but narrow. There's no seating and no furniture. Just a very old mirror dresser and coat hangers on hooks on the walls. One of the reading lights was broken. They put a heater in the room that helped as it was very cold. The linens are very old, but clean enough. In the bathroom, the towels are clean enough, but old. There are no amenities in the room at all other than the heater. No TV (not that I care about that) no safe, no drinking water. You just have to leave your valuables and hope for the best. I didn't stay for breakfast, so I've no idea what's on offer. The location is not ideal. The property is on the very edge of the vast medina and down some deserted, narrow alleys. I felt very insecure. The alley that leads to the hotel door is a loitering spot for teenagers who kept offering me drugs every time I came in or out. There are no cafes, restaurants or any real shops anywhere near the property. This angered the manager too as she insists she will provide transport to anywhere. All racking up the costs. This was not a good experience. Perhaps other rooms or non single travellers will have a better experience. Whatever you do, don't respond to Expedia or a booking site until after you've checked out. The manager's temper is best avoided.Written December 3, 2017
- Martijn_19790 contributionsVery nice and peaceful placeThis small hotel, Riad style, is conveniently located close to the edge of the city but within walking distance from the Medina and other highlights. The hotel has just a few rooms, most centered around the courtyard where you can relax. There is also a nice interior garden, where breakfast and dinner are being served. All in all a really nice place to stay and highly recommended. THE ROOMS Our room was spacious with two comfy beds. It was nicely de decorated with huge carpets and had some stained glass windows that let in the natural light from the courtyard. The bathroom was ok with a half bath/shower. The water pressure and temperature however varied a lot. The whole place was very clean except from some dust under the beds. THE SERVICE All the staff were very friendly and helpful and made us feel comfortable. Most of the staff speaks French en those that do speak English speak it very well. THE FOOD The breakfast is just excellent with more then enough freshly prepared Moroccan food (that can change from day to day) and delicious fresh orange juice served at your table. It is possible to order dinner, which also tastes good. It is however very expensive. PROS - Beautiful and peaceful place - Conveniently located with possibility to park out in the streets - Friendly staff - Excellent breakfast - Perfect WiFi - Convenient with kids CONS - Water temperature and pressure in the bathroom changes from day to day. - Dinner is expensiveWritten April 9, 2017
- bekiberk0 contributionsWonderful Place to stay in Fes!I just want to say that I really enjoyed my time here at the Riad Lalla Fatima! I was able to stay 2 nights and enjoyed everything about this place. The family is so friendly and made you feel right at home. The best part of the stay is taking a cooking class. I enjoyed the evening making Tagine and Charmoola and other great side dishes. (sorry if spelled incorrectly) I enjoyed the evening getting to know the family. I took plenty of notes so I can follow these recipes at home..they were patient with me. I will certainly be back to stay here when I am in Fes again and highly recommend this Riad! Thank you so much!!Written February 1, 2017
- Kelper360 contributionsThe place to stay in FesWe had a lovely 2 night stay at this Riad, the home of Lalla Fatima and her family. The family makes you feel so at home, like very very welcome guests-it's a pleasure to stay. As with all Riads the entrance is a nondescript door in an alley but the home inside is lovely. Good rooms, open courtyard and a great welcome. The room was very comfortable & the bathroom beautifully tiled. We ate in the Riad both evenings and the fresh home cooked meals were superb. If you have time ask for a cooking class from Lalla Fatima, you won't be disappointed! We would stay again.Written September 16, 2016

- Lala G0 contributionsMagical riad with open courtyardThe thing that attracted me the most about Riad Lalla Fatima was the open courtyard with its trees and plants. I had seen several other riads in Fes but almost all of them had closed courtyards, which are lovely but I personally like to see the sun! Riad Lalla Fatima has two courtyards, an open one in their summer house and a closed one in the winter house. The houses were absolutely stunning and much larger than I imagined (I even got lost in the beginning). The room I stayed in was perfect in size and the bathroom was also big enough and well illuminated (unlike other bathooms I experienced elsewhere). Lalla Fatima is a wonderful host as well and made the best breakfast I ever had during my 10 days in Morocco! She also prepared tea and biscuits, both on arrival and during the afternoon while I was working on the patio with my laptop. The wifi was also the fastest and most reliable connection I had during my trip which (it works much better in the summer house since that's where the router is located). I loved the calm and silence it offered and the spectacular decor, and I felt very much at home. It's also located very close to a medina door (Bab Ziat) which is very practical if you need to get out and grab a taxi somewhere). I'd definitely come back here for my next trip to Fes.Written March 27, 2016
- Kat A0 contributionsBeautiful & historic family-owned riad in Fes's MedinaWe had a magical stay with Lalla Fatima in her Riad. The home is a rambling, beautiful secret kept hidden behind the walls of the medina of Fes. The home features two gorgeous courtyards, both with colorful tile and delicately carved stonework. The orange and lemons trees and the fluttering of birds brings the outside into the interior space. Each room is a gem, with antique furniture and intricately carved woodwork. Lalla Fatima, her two daughters, and her staff are very kind and tranquil people. If you stay in for dinner, the food is quite delicious. Overall, this riad is a fantastic place to relax and surround yourself with beauty.Written January 4, 2016

Fantastic experience. We made 3 salads, a chicken Tajine and a persimmon desert. All the ingredients were ready and we'll displayed. We made every dish from scratch. Aziza demonstrated the food preparation steps and gave you the opportunity to do each yourself without spending a lot of time chopping and peeling everything. She was clearly more skilled. I learned a number of things that I will be able to use in preparing non Moroccan dishes. All of the food was delicious, the kitchen was welcoming and well designed to move around and see what was happening. Having taken several classes in Thailand I was much happier with this one. I feel inspired and eager to go home and make these dishes.
I highly recommend this class
