My wife and I took lessons and Ivan was a great and cool teacher. We both got up quick and had a blast for 2 hours. My wife at first was a fraud to do it then ended up kicking my butt. Loved it. Highly recommended

I'm currently in the middle of a 10 session series with Ivan and it has been AMAZING! I was looking to find someone I could work with consistently to level up my surfing, and I can't believe how much I have already improved after just a few sessions. Ivan is a great coach and a super fun person to be around, and is so encouraging and helpful in the water. I feel like one 2 hour session with him is the equivalent of 20 on my own in terms of time riding and how quickly I have improved. Book a session (or 10) with Ivan -- you won't regret it!

*Full disclosure: I know ZERO about surfing* This was the second time we used Hook-Up Surfing for surf lessons for our 12 and 10 year old. Last year, my children tried it for the first time and loved it so much that surf lessons were the only thing we booked for our Hawaii vacation this year. Jenn was their instructor both times and she is warm and welcoming and good with children. She seemed to put both of my girls at ease and they were up on the board from the very beginning. Most importantly, both girls ended their lesson in smiles and wanting to go back for more. I will definitely continue to reach out to and recommend Hook-Up Surfing.

Do a lesson with them! I promise you won’t regret it! I had the absolute best time! I did this for my birthday and Ivan was so kind, accommodating, and an amazing coach! I’ve never surfed before, and in 1 hour I was up standing and catching waves!

This was the best experience ever! Ivan and Jen are the most friendly people, and made sure by the session we were riding comfortably. Between the safety instructions and technique instructions Ivan made sure we were safe, prepared and confident... it worked! Could not recommend more!!!

By far, the best surfing experience in Oahu!!! Jen and Ivan will have you up on a board in no time. However, their friendliness and passion for the water, surfing and teaching will help you and family fall in Love with it. Surfing is the best way to experience the water, in my opinion. My 10yo son and I have been surfing with them since he was 6. And in those 4 years we have bonded so much and have become closer than ever through surfing and the fantastic experience they provide. Whether you want to just try out surfing for the first time or you are experienced you will learn and have a blast surfing with Hooked up!

We had a fantastic family surfing lesson! Ivan and Jen were great - they provided solid safety instructions on land first, and then took us out into the waters for our first experience surfing in Hawaii. We are a family with 2 teen boys (all new to surfing), and Ivan and Jen provided the right level of instruction and helped us build our confidence to just get on the board and stand up tall. It was a lot of fun, and we would defintely rebook with them when we are next in town.

Wow! My lesson yesterday was amazing. Ivan was such a good instructor. He re-taught me the basics (my last lesson was last summer) and then we headed out to the water. He tweaked my ride each time until I was riding the wave into shore. He and his wife made the whole experience so much fun. They also had so much knowledge on surfing, so that when I fell of the board they knew how to fix it, so that next time I didn’t do the same thing. Overall, best experience I’ve had this trip! I wanted to get instruction on short boarding and Ivan delivered. I was having trouble stepping down from a long board, and Ivan was able to easily identify what I was doing wrong with my pop up, stance and turning. Progressed significantly in the span of a two hour lesson. My confidence has increased tremendously and most of all I had an absolute blast. I will be booking a series of lessons as a return customer.

Great experience for my kids with a great instructor. Ivan taught them water safety on dry land first and then carefully navigated them to a lineup without many people so that they could enjoy their experience comfortably and safely. I watched them catch wave after wave from my paddleboard as they screamed with excitement. Definite recommend.

This was an excellent choice for my daughters ages 23 and 10. I am was excellent with them. He was very patient and encouraging. Their safety was his top priority. They did not surf in an area that was too crowded, which was extremely nice. The girls had an excellent time and we would definitely recommend him to anyone!

I have surfed with Ivan and Jen on three of my past visits to Hawaii. They have always been very instructive and helpful. They know how to teach and work with people. They also share their love for the island This was my first time trying stand up paddle boarding. On my last trip Ivan told me that Jen competed in the inter island SUP competition and that she was a great instructor. He was right. Jen was able to give me guidance almost before I needed it. She really wants you to have a great time and learn about this fun sport. I would recommend them to anyone who wants to try this I definitely will be back for another lesson on my next trip to Hawaii

Ivan taught my kids to surf in one lesson and they had a blast doing it! He and his wife Jen communicated quickly and were able to accommodate our schedule/request. The pictures were an extra charge, but so worth it! This was our top activity in Hawaii and definitely recommend!
