- HBfromCALI0 contributionsBest Sail Trip Ever!!!!I was hesitant to book the trip. However, the 20% discount sold me to buy the trip. We were family of three and enjoyed it very much. We booked the snorkeling and sail trip, I enjoyed the snorkeling part of it but had a blast on sail trip as well. After the trip, I tried to rebook the sunset trip but it was sold out. If i am ever back in the Waikiki, i would do this trip 10 times over at this price point. The sales crew at the outrigger was great... however, the sails crew was A+++, i would not hesitate to recommend this crew to anyone,Written December 2, 2024

This was definitely not the experience I had hoped for. We did the catamaran on my birthday to celebrate and we really did not enjoy it much at all. Everyone got soaked waiting in line to get on the boat, the staff were yelling directions at everyone like we were in prison, and the captain seemed to think it was funny that multiple people on the boat were sea sick. I ride on boats all the time, and even I got sick. The captain didn’t take it easy or slow down even after multiple people were about to vomit. The bartender was the only one who seemed to care and was offering guests lavender oil for sea sickness. We paid for the open bar but hardly no one on the boat was able to even drink from being sea sick or the boat hitting waves so hard that they could barely stand to make it to the bar without being knocked over. If I could go back, I definitely not have done this or would have chosen to go with another company.

Aloha Kayla,
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review on your experience. We are so sorry to hear that your boarding was a little more wet than expected. Tides shift daily and weekly, so it sounds like this sunset boarding may have been during a high tide. We assure you that safety is our captain, crew and staff's top priority, all instructions and actions during boarding and departure are to ensure our guests get out into the water safely. Sailing on the open ocean can be very different than sailing on a lake or in a bay, if that is what you’re used to. The weather that day was very typical in terms of sailing, for us. That being said, sea sickness can be hit or miss for our guests, especially for those who are out on our Hawaiian waters for the first time. While our captain has to stay at the wheel at all times, we are happy to hear that the crew was helpful and offered lavender oil to those who felt sick. If you have further questions or would like to speak to a manager, please do not hesitate to send us an email at reservations@sailholokai.com. Mahalo for choosing Holokai, we hope to be able to welcome you aboard again in the future.

If you're looking for a casual boat ride with Waikiki's finest jungle juice from a questionable plastic jug and sharing your experience with social millennials, then this is the tour for you. If you're expecting an intimate, cozy, and classy sail, then look elsewhere. Other than their mixed rum concoction, they offer several types of beers, cheap champagne and wine, and sodas and juices. A few things you can't control are weather and who the other passengers are. Unfortunately, we had a cloudy and windy evening, so the sunset part was lacking; obviously no one's fault. If it is windy, be prepared with appropriate attire ... no knee length or shorter dresses unless you want your undercarriage exposed. One woman had to borrow a hoodie and belt from someone to keep their dress down. Our boat had an array of guests and everyone was nice, however, some guests were loud and a bit obnoxious at times. The crew of two gentlemen were great; they were professional, respectful, accommodating, caring, and patient. We weren't expecting so many people on a small boat, so we didn't feel very comfortable trying to move around. It wasn't clear if you were allowed to wear shoes/sandals on the boat (you had to remove shoes to walk through the sand to get onto the boat), so most everyone was barefoot and shoved shoes in the cubbies behind where people were sitting. Once the boat docked, everyone was trying to get to their personal items and shoes from behind where people were sitting, so off-boarding was rather chaotic. It was just an okay experience and perhaps on a different evening we would have had a better time.

Highlight of my week on Oahu! I was solo and feared being aboard with a dozen or so honeymooners...not so! Easy-going crew & crowd, actual sailing, not just a power-sail. Relaxing & exciting all in one. I would've gone again if they had any openings! The only issue was FINDING them on the beach before sailing time. Better directions would've been nice. I've "been there & done that" on Oahu before, but this excursion is worth the price and I would recommend it highly.

This is a must do in Waikiki. We did many activities. ‘This cruise was the first and best. Captain and bartender were great. Sorry forgot tier names. We went on March 4th for the sunset. Hopefully management can provide names and post. They we fun, professional, and made us feel at home. We went out on the water and saw some whales, a beautiful sunset with great views of Waikiki. We went on a much larger boat for whale watching and only saw a few dolphins. On our next trip we will do again and add another to see the turtles. Thank you for so much fun!

This sunset booze cruise was fabulous! It’s a great value for the price - open bar with a variety of drink options and a gorgeous catamaran ride right at sunset. Rich and Austin were an awesome crew and never let our drinks go empty. Thank you for a fabulous excursion!!

The evening sail was pleasant with beautiful sunset and views of the Honolulu skyline. Staff were accommodating. It really isn't a full bar as we could not get a vodka tonic - only the drinks prepared in advance and champagne and beer. Restroom facilities were lacking, especially after several fellow passengers had to use it after getting motion sickness.

Aloha Ray,
We're glad you enjoyed your time sailing with us. We hope that you enjoyed the open bar on your sail. Unfortunately, as we have limited space, we aren't able to offer a full bar. If you did see a full bar advertised somewhere, please contact our manager at reservations@sailholokai.com so that we can contact the appropriate party to make changes accordingly. As a catamaran, we are unable to offer a large restroom, however, we are proud to offer one of the larger restrooms on a catamaran in Waikiki. We hope you'll join us for another sail, perhaps an afternoon in the sun or a morning with the honu! Mahalo and a hui hou!

This was a great experience. When we first got on we felt a little squished because everyone was sitting but as soon as the boat left you could get up and walk around. Right away we saw a whale breach the water and saw many more whales along the way. The staff was great and kept the drinks flowing. It does get cool on the water as the sun goes down so recommend a jacket. Overall this is a fantastic activity.

We enjoyed our last night in Hawaii on this Sunset Cruise. We selected this company by chance and we hit the Lotto. You can sign up online and within a couple of minutes you are asked to review your purchase and standard waivers. Some other cruises wanted you to be at their location up to 90 minutes beforehand, however here we checked in 30 minutes ahead of time.
You will meet at their office about a block away from the sand. Once everyone is checked in, the group walks to the boat. We were greeted by two employees, the Captain and Deckhand, aka Bar Tender.
Our boat had 45 guests, however there was plenty of room for everyone. Drinks were served (open bar), however no food. We were at sea between 5:30pm and 7pm (Sunset). The staff was very friendly and made sure everyone felt at home.
We were fortunate enough to have a great wind and sailed almost the full time at sea. I would recommend this cruise to anyone, any age that has an interest in sailing between Waikiki and Diamond Head.

Highly recommended! 20/10 !!! The captain, the bartender Ryan make the experience exceptional! This sunset cruise exceeded our expectations. The open bar is a 100% worth every $$, Ryan is extremely generous and he makes sure everyone is having fun. He started pouring delicious cocktails as soon as we took off and was refilling them all the way to the end. There is a bathroom on a boat !!! We had a great time, made new friends and it was definitely a night to remember ! Thank you captain and thank you so much Ryan !

We signed up for the Sunset Cocktail Sail a few days before and absolutely had no regrets. The captain and the crew were friendly, entertaining and helpful. Drinks were plentiful and the music was great. We were lucky to have great weather, see some whales and a breathtaking view of the sunset! We highly recommend this experience as it was one of the highlights of our first trip to Hawaii!

Almost everything is in walking distance or can be reached by trolley. It leaves from the Outrigger Reef. That’s where you check in.

Good day. I'd really like to take my family on this sunset cruise! My mom and brother are overweight, is it difficult to get on and off the boat? And are there places to sit on the boat?
